Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Are you talking about a MacBook Pro, or an iBook?
You have posted in the iBook Discussions, and list an iBook in your specs, but in the body of your post, you are referring to a MacBook Pro.
Please clarify.

  • K9N Neo V3 wont boot at all and has constant green light

Hi guys, as you can see I'm new to the forum and new to PC building this is my second rig and not my favorite for some reason this motherboard just wont boot. when i push the start button the heatsink fan spins and the power led stays green but other than that there's no other activity
    heres my specs
    MSI K9N Neo V3
    AMD Semphron 3000 am2
    512mb NANYA PC2-4200
Tested with 250w and 300w psus
    Ati radion graphics card Pci-e
    200gb hd
note these parts are mostly testing items to test the board before i buy more expensive parts  any help would be great

You will barely, barely get by with a very good 300W PSU, but that needs to be very good. Any hardware changes or addings will render your system unusable. I would recommend you a Zalman unit of about 400 - 500 watts. ~80 - 100 $. So you can "develop" the system.
But your system seems to pass POST.  Can you disconnect the hard disk, possible opticals (CD/DVD) and if you have any USB things, and try again, please. Make sure you got the required power cables connected!
Nanya memory is new to me. It wouldn't be a Dell special (memory)?
thanks for the reply im currently using a dell system but my new builds motherboard just wont boot at all thats the main problem the psus seem to boot other systems so im unsure to whether the board is healthy or not since i cant connect the cases original audio plug to this mobo :( its unable to give me beep commands and the green light as ive read else where often means something bad but the condition dosent seem to change even when i change out parts
and the psu is a 12v

  • N97 White Screen .. Phone wont boot at all ... Stu...

    Hello all,
So I have finally stumbled upon the White Screen of Death ... Really sad that it happened but I still have hope that it may work. THe phone does not boot up and its stuck on the Nokia logo
    [Long read]
It happened one before a day and I managed to find a helpful topic
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&thread.id=141381
It had everything regarding reset codes and whatnot, but the really helpful message was from grschinon .. ( he seems to know what hes doing ) .. for he shared an amazing technique of holding the green and red buttons while booting up the phone, and it worked !!
But yesterday, it happened again  .. The screen wont light up and the keylock was stuck, so I just removed the battery ... I turned it on while assuming that the red/green button technique will work, but it didnt
I tried it over and over again ( been trying for half a day actually ) .. but with no avail, it didnt work ..
I tried connecting it through usb, with the wall charger, different combinations of buttons ... meh none worked
Its really annoying that half of my friends keep saying, THIS is why you get a blackberry .. and similar stuff .. My previous phones are all Nokia and this is just a huge dissapointment .. the N95 is 500000 times better than the N97 in stability and etc ... I was anxiously waiting for v2.0  ... now my n97 is dead
     [/Long read]
I understand that there is a solution that will FORMAT the whole phone, but I dont want that, there are lots of pictures on my internal memorycard (32gb one) and 30+ applications (if not more) .. I seriously dont want to lose all of those ..
So do you know any other way that I can fix the problem ?? Is there a soft reset combination that i can use rather than the hard reset one??
Please advise, your comments are really appreciated,
    Kind Regards,
    Z

These are the solutions that i've colected over the internet:
    I hope it help's you!
N97 White Screen .. Phone wont boot at all ... Stuck at Nokia logo
They instructed me to turn on the phone pressing the green, red and camera button at the same time as I pressed the power button.
It worked and the phone started.
I didn't need to format my phone.
Had the same problem with my White N97 (not that the colour probably makes a difference).
Was using the Facebook App on the main screen as a widget, tried to start it up by touching it - it seemed to not start even after waiting or trying multiple times.
So i thought to myself, "I'll just reboot my phone, that should fix it."
    BAD IDEA.
Got stuck on the White Screen with the Blue "NOKIA" on it, so i thought...i'll wait and see what happens.
    Nothing...for hours.
So i pulled the battery and put it back in again....powered on....same thing..."NOKIA"...and nothing else.
Repeated this about....10 times, getting more and more nervous that i had turned my $950AU phone that i had boasted to my friends that is better than their iphones....into a useless brick.
So, i turned to Google looking for answers...
Someone said they left the battery out of the phone until it went flat and had some success.
I found something about other users having a similar issue with other software  (Garmin GPS software), and also the "Mail for Exchange" application.
They mentioned something about the only way to get it working again was to hard reset the phone to stop the apps from going online...
I REALLY didnt want to do a hard reset, as i had a bunch of apps and data that i DID NOT want to lose or spend like 3-4hours re-installing.
SO...I got thinking...how can i stop my apps from trying to go online without a hard reset.
So this is what i tried - and it worked!
1- Power off phone (if power button responds)
    2- Pull out battery.
3- Remove memory card (if you have one)
    4- Remove SIM card.
5- To make sure phone has no residule power hold down power button without any of the above inserted.
6- Re-insert battery only (without SIM card or Memory Card)
7- Cross your fingers and toes. (optional...but if it helps what the hell.)
    8- Power on phone.
9- IF the phone prompts you to go online in any way Select NO. (or if it says do you want to activate Offline mode say YES)
10- Press Options key when you get to the home screen and select "Content to offline mode"
11-  Make sure "Offline" is displayed in top left corner near where the signal bar usually is. ( if it doesnt say "Offline" press the power button briefly, and select "Offline" (should be underneath the "Pager" profile)
12- Once you have made sure your phone and applications are in offline mode - Power off phone using Power button.
    13- Remove battery
14-  Again to make sure phone has no residule power hold down power button without any battery or cards inserted.
15- Re-Insert SIM card, Memory card and Battery.
    16- Power on Phone.
At this point the phone should start up as per normal, I knew it was working straight away for me because my SIM card prompted me for a pin number. (which happens normally for me when I turn on my phone)
After the phone is ready, i just put my phone back into online mode by selecting my "general" profile, and put my content back online.
Please note: This is what worked for me. Results and Mileage may vary.
It seems the issue is that the phone startup is being held up or stopped due to Programs or Applications tring to go online.
For me I suspect it could have been the Facebook App due to the problems i had before powering off my phone the first time.
I am going to put my Content to offline mode if I need to reboot my phone again, at least until nokia pull up their socks and release a fix for this.
Side note: my N97 is also running Version 11 Firmware. ( not that it may make a difference)
Good luck to all with same problem, hope this works for you too.
Had the same problem but I just removed the extra memorycard and formatted it on my computer before I put it back...
after a few days trying without micro sd inserted
the result is, n97 still stuck in white screen nokia logo
it happend always if i turn off my phone without sign off the facebook app widggetz..
here is how to crash your phone
put facebook widgetz on nokia standby screeen
and then put it online mode
    klik the facebook app
just do anything in your facebook for check it already connected
    klik end key
now turn off your phone without sign out the Facebook
    turn on again
and boom your phone will stuck on nokia white screen logo
and it will never boot forever..
sometime when you take off the batery and reinserted again it can boot normaly but the percentage is 20% only..
soo if your n97 can boot normaly after FB "accident" that mean you lucky and i sugest you unistall your FB ASAP before n97 stuck again on white screen nokia logo..
is anyone have problem like mee??
i like to hear another opinion...
i think nokia already knew this problem, that way when you check ovi and your phone set to nokia n97 the facebook app is missing...
    my firmware is v11 already

  • PC wont boot at all with X-fi and 8800 GTX c

My A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard and my BFG 8800 GTX video card seem to not like the X-Fi... It wont boot at all.... If I remove the X-fi, it boots fine. I have tried the X-fi in all available slots, and moved the 8800 to both slots, but nadda..Once, it booted, but the X-fi wasnt 'seen' by the MB at all... I can run onboard sound, but it isn't as nice, and I dont get to use the EAX...

Cat, what processor/memory are you running on the mobo along with the x-fi and the 8800 gtx? What drivers do you use for the 8800 gtx? Latest? Can you run the Battlefield 242 demo with the X-Fi and Ultra/Eax Audio settings on (all audio settings at max) without problems for at least an hour with no stutter/crashes in h20x2k.sys or whatever?I don't know if you can be bothered, but it would be amazing if you tried it and reported that it works fine, if it does. I'm getting HEAVY stutter with a DFI Lanparty SLI-DR Expert (Nforce 4). It starts out fine, but gets worse and worse as time goes. By about 5 minutes to half an hour it's pretty much unbearable and/or crashes with a bluescreen. Please see my other post for this (look for bf 242 audio channels). Setting the sound to "hardware" seems to be a temporary fix, but I'm definitely not satisfied. I have no problems running general windows/2d audio otherwise... silky smooth. I'm actually considering replacing my motherboard in the near future and I'm gathering options on "X-Fi-Friendly" motherboards. I'd like to hear my Battlefield 242 audio with all its 28 channels in EAX 5 someday... Perhaps Creative should consider putting stickers or logos on motherboards to ensure they play nice together lol :-D?ThanksMessage Edited by HeatSurge on 06-07-2007:26 AM

  • IBook Wont Boot

I have recently ran into a problem after two years of owning my iBook. It will no longer boot and Ive tried all the3 suggestions Ive found so far. It wont boot in safe mode, the installer CD comes up with an error after installation. The Disk Utility wont repair the disk either, it just says "Keys out of order" then says "Rebuilding Catalog B-tree" the "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)" Is there any possible way of fixing my hard drive or would it be best to find another one.
    Thanks

  • IBook wont boot from drives

Hello guys. I have a pretty technical question so if you're a rookie don't bother finishing this paragraph.
I have a 3g ibook 500mhz that wont boot any drives at all. It did at one point; I don't know what I did. It won't read cds or anything. I can hear it spinning, but it just refuses to mount them. I've tried reseting nvram and pram and defaulting settings, so it's more complicated than that. However, when I hold the option key down it displays my hard drive and cd. When I click on them they do nothing though, and when I click on the arrow to the right it just reloads the icons and spins the cd. If I click on the refresh button it does the same thing. Is there a way to get past this? Also, is there a way to somehow reinstall the firmware or point it to the hard drive and cd drive? Thanks.

Very strange that SHIFT does nothing, what about holding the Option Key down at Boot, what shows?
Ronda's covered much stuff, but maybe...
Does it boot into Open Firmware with CMDOption+of ?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42642
    reset-nvram (press Enter)
    set-defaults (press Enter)
    reset-all (press Enter)
Have you done a PRAM reset...

  • IBook wont boot up from Firewire Drive - it used to

I've been struggling with my G3 iBook for the last few weeks. It's a long story...
My initial problem started when the beachball started spinning and spinning for the smallest little thing. I would have a single program running but it would still keep spinning. I repaired disk permissions and ran MacJanitor. MacJanitor would take more than 40 minutes to complete running. It usually used to take less than 5 minutes.
I called the local Apple dealer (no Apple Stores here) and they suggested that I reinstall the OS. I reinstalled the OS, but that didn't result in any improvement. A few days later I got a warning from the HDD S.M.A.R.T. status saying that the internal HDD was failing.
I didn't have a backup of my internal HDD so I went out and got myself an external 3.5" Firewire HDD. I then used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the internal drive to the HDD. Cloning itself took about 8 hours - I assume because of the problem with the internal HDD. I then went to the system preferences to make the external HDD as the startup disk. I then erased the internal HDD. My iBook was booting up and running at normal speed using the external Firewire HDD.
Last night I noticed the beachball spinning again. It was late so I shut down the iBook. When I tried to startup the iBook this morning , the Apple symbol came up on the screen, and a few minutes later a Circle with a slash symbol across it. The iBook would not boot up. I tried this a couple of times with no success.
I reinstalled the OS on the internal HDD - took about 3.5 hours. I am now working off the internal drive. When I plug in the Firewire drive it shows up on the desktop. When i go to system preference I can select the Firewire drive as the startup disk - BUT when I restart the iBook it does not boot up from the external Firewire HDD. I also noticed that I cannot access my documents, pictures, MP3's on my Firewire Drive when I look through the contents - Did I lose them, or just don't have priveleges??
I am not sure what the problem is and why the iBook refuses to boot up from the external firewire drive. The internal drive still shows the SMART status as failing, and I am not in a position to replace it right away. I need to be able to get my iBook to boot back up from the Firewire Drive.
    Please help
    Thanks
    Vir

I managed to get the problem sorted out.
I first started the iBook from the internal HDD and then went to System Preference to select the startup disk. I selected MAC OS 9 on the external HDD as the start up disk.
The iBook started up from the external Firewire drive using OS 9. OS 9 also showed that the iBook had not sut down properly the last time and verified the disk. Once I got the iBook started in OS 9 I went to the Control panel and then to Startup Disk. I noticed that I had 2 versions of OS X on the external Firewire HDD - one which said "OS 10.x.x previous system" and another which said OX 10.x.x. (When I select startup disk from OS 10.x.x it does not show both these options, only OS 10.x.x) I remembered that when I was reinstalling the OS (as recommended by the Apple Dealer) my settings etc were saved as "previous system". I seleected "OS 10.x.x " not "OS 10.x.x previous sytem" on the external HDD and re-started and it booted up ok.
My question here is - why does this additional startup option show up on OS 9 but not on OS 10? I figure that the iBook was trying to startup from OS "10.x.x. previous system" when it actually should have needed to startup from "OS 10.x.x.". This problem must have occured when I shut down ...
Is it ok to delete the OS X.x.x.previous system folder without losing any data etc??
    Thanks
    Vir

  • IBook g4 wont boot at all?

I replaced the optical drive on this ibook g4 and re-assembled it and once i turned it back on it shows a small finder icon/folder with question mark. i know that means it is looking for the OS and i had leopard installed on it. So i tried to boot into target disk mode while hooked up to my other laptop to see if the hard drive would appear but the computer will not boot in to target disk mode at all so what should i do??

    Jhester1967:
Dissembling and reassembling an iBook G4 is a bit of a complex process with all the parts and screws. My suspicion is that something was not put together quite right. I would go back in and check to be sure that everything is in place and all connections are secure. Where necessary, secure connections on the logic board with a new piece of kaptop tape.

  • IBook wont boot Tiger

Well, for some odd reason, my iBook G3 will not boot my Tiger disk (CD). It freezes at the "Prepairing Installation) dialog box, the mouse still moves but the setup is frozen. The disk boots fine in my other Macs and I am able to boot my 10.2 disk in my iBook, just not 10.4 Whats wrong? And I already reset NV-RAM, by the way.

    Apple Rules wrote:
Like I said, I've had Tiger running on systems with as little as 96MB of RAM.
No, that's not what you said. You said that you've "had systems with as little as 96MB of RAM boot OS X" without specifying which version of OS X you were talking about. As far as I know, Tiger will not install at all with less than 192 MB of RAM, and the official specs call for 256 MB.
The first iBook G3 (Dual USB) came with a rudimentary version of OS X, and some of those iBooks only had 64 MB of RAM, so I thought you were talking about an earlier version of Mac OS X.

  • MacBook wont boot up all the way!!

I recently updated my computer with Quiktime and itunes applications and it asked me to restart after updates were complete. It restarted but it gets stuck on the gray screen with the apple and the turning wheel and wont go any further. I read similar posts but the problem is i do not have any of my original software with me because i am living in Europe right now. I tried the shift and power and also the command and ctrl and power and nothing has worked. is there any way i can fix this without having to reinstall?

I don't have an answer since you don't have the install DVDs or apparently even a backup drive with you, but this is a good place to point out the need for preventative maintenance to anyone who is interested.
It is always somewhat risky to install new software. It is like surgery; it is usually safe but there can be complications caused by the fact that everyone's computer is setup differently and many people have corrupted files already on their computers that they are not even aware of. Then when the new installed update comes across something that is corrupted, bad things can happen.
I think many people don't use an external hard drive as a backup because they don't want to spend the money. In this case, do what I do, as a redundancy to an ext. backup drive, partition your computer's drive such that you can install a copy of OS X on each partition. Then you will always have a functional OS in case you get caught without your install DVDs or any other method of getting back on track.
The second OS (on a partition) is also great for trouble shooting all manner of issues that might come up from time to time. The only downside is that it will consume some space on your hard drive but then you should not be living so close to the edge anyway if you absolutely need that few extra GB of disk space.
Business and industry could not possibly survive if they did not use redundancies and fail-safes to cover the unexpected. Individuals should not think that they somehow can.

  • Ibook wont boot up

hi i bought the ibook g4 used. it was working fine today the safari stop responding so i turned the computer off when i tried to reboot it all i got was the apple symbol and nothing after that i tried:
    option, control, p-r (nothing)
    option, control, power (nothing)
letting it set for an hour/two (nothing)
I do not have any disc for it since i bought it used..PLEASE HELP

    Bossy72:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    option, control, p-r (nothing)
Try the following combination procedure as report back your results:
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously later.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command + Option + P + R keys immediately after the startup chime.
    • Hold keys down until you hear the startup chime for the third time.
    • Release the keys and immediately hold down Shift key to start up in Safe Mode.
    • Log in and empty Trash.
    • Restart normally and log in.
Incidentally, I suggest that you contact the party from who you purchased the computer and ask for the install disks. They belong with the computer and should not be separated. Without the disk you are in violation of the Apple Software License Agreement.

    Maxtor 160GB SATA HDD
All is installed the right way but when i turn the power on nothing happens not even a litle sound. Smelled like something was burning in my PSU. Tested the PSU on an old PC in my house thats still working. Any sugestions?

Make sure that board is not shorted somewhere, try with barabone setup with mainboard out of case. Double check all power cables too.

  • T42 wont boot at all! sos!

I have a T42 and i was on it earlier with the A/C adapter attached and once i plugged in my ipod to charge it, the computer went dead....no warnings or error messages. I tried to turn it back on and it does absolutely nothing. No lights, sounds or any type of reaction. Any ideas of what this could be?! please help!

use TPfancontrol (free download) and check what RPM your fan is running and what temperature your cpu is running at.
The slowness maybe due to overheating.
You can try to clean the heatsink by taking the keyboard off, and clean out the fan.
If that don't work, then you could replace the fan/heatsink unit, you can buy it from ebay.
