My iCal disappeared

I installed today the 10.4.5 Intel and after the installation the iCal application is not available anymore. I tried to re-install it fro the Library but did not work. Does anyone know anything about it?
Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Dina,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There is no option to reinstall from the library. If you attempted to use the iCal.pkg for reinstallation, it is only a reciept which is in essence only evidence that iCal was once installed.
Where was the iCal application located before you installed the Update?
Did you ever move iCal from the Applications folder default location? If it was moved previous to the 10.4.5 Update, it did not get properly updated. If this was the case you can move it back to the application folder and reapply the 10.4.5 Combo Update.
The software restore disks which came with your computer should also contain the original iCal application. The Tiger installation does have a custom install feature which you should be able to use, but you will still need to reapply the Combo Update.

My ical disappeared from my computer.  Any idea what happened?!

    Laura,
Have you searched for it using Spotlight?
If you cannot find it with Spotlight, reinstall iCal using your Software installation disks, and then use the Combo Update appropriate for the installed system to bring iCal up to the most recent version.
    To reinstall iCal:
    1. Insert the appropriate Installation disk into the computer.
    2. The disk will appear on the desktop.
    3. Double click on the "Optional Installs" folder.
    4. Double click on the "Optional Installs.mpkg."
    5. Click on (Continue) in Introduction.
    6. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement.
    7. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
    8. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications.
    9. Select (✓) iCal.
    10. Click (Continue).
    11. After iCal has been reinstalled, download and install the appropriate Combo Update to bring iCal up to the most recent version.

  • ICal disappears in month view

Just recently, when I select month view in the Tiger iCal, the window disappears. I can add new events, but cannot see them unless I'm within the day or week view. Also, when I immediately click day or week, it doesn't fit the frame properly. Does anyone know why this glitch is happening?

I found this advice from a standford prof.... and it worked for me...
"I just deleted the com.apple.ical.plist file from
user/library/preferences and reset everything back to defaults and it works
    fine now."
I deleted all the iCal plists and it kept my data, but reset iCal and I can now see in month view.

  • Calendars in ical disappeared after 10.5.6 update

my calendars (4 calendars) and all my to-do item have disappeared from ical after I updated to 10.5.6. Not only that, but most of the items in the menu bar are grayed out so I can not create new events or new to do's. I deleted the com.apple.ical plist and I restored the calendar folder in user>library from time machine and it didn't work. I have added a new calendar item on my iphone and ical asked me to sync it on my macbook pro, but nothing is showing. Also, ical freeze every time I try to close it and I have to force quit.
    Thanks for any help.

No, at the time I am writing this the topic is not answered. Simply applying the 10.5.6 combo update did not work for me when I had this problem.
This did NOT work either - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1906?viewlocale=en_US.
    This is what worked:
    0) make sure both iCal and Mail are closed, and it might not be a bad idea to temporarily shut off any syncing software you may have active
    1) start with the calendar folders from Tiger that are located in Users/{yourusername}/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources, the ones with crazy names like "2E28E612-467E-4981-975E-D07A31AC39C4.calendar" which contain files" called "corestorage.ics," "Index," and "info.plist"; if "all" you have is an iCal backup library (.icbu file), then you can go to a Tiger machine, restore to that iCal, and then take the above calendar folders from it
    2) copy the calendar folders to the desktop of your Leopard machine
    3) read this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1196389&tstart=0) down to the posts by Thierry Girard
    4) do what he says with the text editor, but you can use TextEdit, and look for either the SEQUENCE:-1 or the PRIORITY:-1. Set either one to just 1 (remove the negative sign); I had some value related to a MICROSOFT this or that, and I did not change it at all.
    5) take the edited calendar folders from your desktop and move them into /Users/{yourusername}/Library/Calendars
    6) start up iCal; at this point, I was in business
    I hope this is helpful.

  • Calendars in iCal disappeared

    HI
All of the individual calendars I had set up within iCal (they show in the left panel) have disappeared and when I open iCal all the days are blank....no events or appts. are there! If I click on the 'search results list' button a list of all my appts. comes up. If I double click on one appt. or event for each month then the entire month gets filled in again.....until the next time I close ical and restart. Then it's blank again. So I know my appts. are there but the calendars they were in are gone. I don't have a backup within iCal....tho it is backed up to .Mac/MobilMe. I'm reluctant to sync it again as I'm afraid it will just remove them all from the web site and then I'll have nothing.
Do any of you have any idea how they disappeared or how I can get them all back again since all the events are still "there" someplace and are still color-coded according to the calendar they were in?
I also sync with my Palm LifeDrive via The MissingSync and I sync on my iPod. I don't know if one of those syncs changed iCal or not but iCal on this main computer is supposed to be the one they all sync to.
Any help getting the calendars back with the info still in them would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello,
I found this in iCal Help:
I don't see my events or To Do items
If you don't see or are having trouble finding an event or To Do item, check the following:
Make sure there is a checkmark by the calendar (in the Calendars list) that contains that event or To Do item. (To see if a calendar in a calendar group is checked, click the triangle next to the calendar group to open it.) You can only see events and To Do items on checked calendars.
If you see a scroll bar on the right side of the iCal window, drag it up or down to see times on the calendar that aren't visible.
Enter the name (or portion of the name) of the event or To Do item in the search field at the bottom of the window. For more information about using the search field to find events or To Do items, click "Tell me more."
If you're in Month view and you see three dots (an ellipsis) at the top of the day, there is not enough room to show all the events on that day. To see all the events in Day view, double-click the ellipsis.
An event that spans more than one day appears only on the day it starts in Month view. To see the whole event, switch to Week view by clicking the Week button at the bottom of the iCal window. Or, you can make it an all-day event by selecting the "All-day event" checkbox in the Info drawer.
If you don't see your all-day events, make sure Show All Day Events is checked in the View menu.
If you've changed the time zone for a specific event or have changed the iCal time zone (and are viewing all your events in a different time zone than your computer's time zone), make sure you're looking for the event at the correct time. iCal adjusts where the event appears based on the iCal time zone and the event's time zone. To see the iCal time zone, look in the upper-right corner of the iCal window. (If you don't see a time zone pop-up menu, iCal is displaying your events based on your computer's time zone in Date & Time preferences.)
Make sure that your date, time, and time zone are set correctly in Date & Time preferences. (Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Date & Time.)

  • Switching from 12 to 24 hour time in ical - disappearing times

I live in the US, but I wanted my clock to change to 24 hour time. I did that, but then my region has to be custom and now the time displayed on the left has disappeared. I don't feel like this should be so complicated, but... it is. So I looked up how to change the time, and it worked, but the numbers disappeared and that's not very helpful since that was what I was trying to change. I can even change it back and they're still gone.

Never mind! I restarted iCal (not sure why I didn't think of that before) and the time display on the left returned! But still, I hope for a simpler option for switching to 24 hour time in the future. All you should have to do in my opinion is click on a check box or bullet.
So people with disappearing time displays may want to attempt that.

  • ICal disappeared from my iPhone.  How do I get it back?

For some reason, iCal has disappeared from the screen of my iPhone 4.  How do I get the icon back and how do I access my calendar.  I think it's still somewhere on the machine as I received a notice of an appointment.

You may have hidden it in a folder somewhere; you can't delete apps that are preinstalled.  To find it - or anything on your iPhone - use Spotlight.  Just swipe all the way to the left, past the first home screen, and start typing cal.. into the search box.  in no time at all, you'll find it.

  • Events in iCal disappearing after a month

When I look back in iCal to previous month and beyond, all the events that I added (non-repeating events) are gone. I see the Calender events we subscribe to (jewish holidays), birthdays and repeating events but not the ones I added.
I rely on my calendar to serve as my memory of past events so this is causing some issues. Any ideas how to stop this? My husband, who is much better at this stuff than me, has "tried everything" and has given up. Any ideas?

In the preferences menu for iCal - not System Preferences - there is an "Advanced" tab. Click on that and you'll find a number of options having to do with hiding and deleting both events and ToDos and what you want iCal to do with a couple of other features. Make sure that the "Delete events _ days after they have passed" check box is empty. If it is checked, that's probably the source of your problem.

  • After sync iCal disappeared

Was syncing using iPhoto and after sync was completed all iCal info was gone.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
To check the default calendar service book: Options>Advanced Options>Default Services, and it should be set to the email address you want to sync with.
As well since the calendar on the BlackBerry has 2 different record numbers, you will need to merge these to make sure the sync is back to normal.
Follow these instructions to merge the calendar: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB19240
After this is done, try performing the synchronization.

  • Ical disappeared

after switching from mobileme to icloud, my calendar disappeared from both my mac and iphone. how do i get it back?

    coralbay,
Follow the procedures listed in iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar.

  • Everything in my iCal just disappeared...

    Hi everyone,
Something just happened with my mobileme/icloud account and everything in my iCal disappeared, which is really inconvenient because all my work appointment are/were on this software.
What can I do to recover them? (I know I'm stupid but I didn't turn on time machine yet...)

Without a backup you can try your iCloud account. Check www.icloud.com and see if all your stuff is in Calendar. If it is, you can try going to your Mac then System Preferences / iCloud, sign out then back in and see if your iCloud Calendar syncs to iCal in Lion.

  • How to change iCloud primary account without deleting ical entries on existing primary account?

Hi, I've got a bit confused and befuddled with my icloud account(s), as I had a MobileMe account before icloud and an itunes / Apple account.  On my iphone and ipad, I've set up icloud on my itunes / Apple account details, which means I have a photo stream that works between these two devices. I also have something silly like 7 ical calendars on my iphone / ipad; two on an icloud account under the same log-in as my itunes, one on my gmail email account (which is the email account that is also my itunes / Apple account name) and four on a @me.com account I acquired from the old MobileMe days.  Although not perfect, it's worked ok for a while, until I wanted to move photos from iphoto on my mac to my photo stream, and realised I had two photo stream accounts, and the one linked to my mac wouldn't enable photos to be seen on my iphone or ipad.
So I read a lot of stuff on here and decided I needed to change my primary icloud on my mac, ensuring it was my itunes account rather than my icloud account. I did this last night and all the diary entries in my mac ical disappeared. I then went back and deleted the itunes account details as my primary account and reinstalled the icloud details. On doing this, I realised I only have four calendars in my mac ical - and these are all on my @me.com account, none of the gmail calendars appear.
What I'd like to do, if possible, is migrate all my @me.com calendars and photo stream into one icloud account, using my itunes log-in details. This will, hopefully, mean I can cut down on the number of calendars on my iphone and ipads, ensure everything synchs across the mobile devices and my mac, and ensure I can use photo stream across all three.  Can anyone suggest how I can do this please?

When you delete an iCloud account from a device, that has no effect on the iCloud accounts on other devices or the content in that iCloud account. You are just deleting that account from that particular device.
Her content will still be in iCloud.

  • ICal shows wrong month in day pane and in edit pane.

I am running iCal 3.0.8 under OS X 10.5.8 on a MacPro Intel machine. In the Month view I suddenly saw the month-day-year of each event appearing in the day panel. I also saw this date in the edit panel for that event. The problem is that the MONTH in this displayed date was wrong. This is June. All of the dates in June said Jan (yes I had my glasses on). I had previously (but not recently) changed the date/time format in International to Custom, so I could show day, time, month, day date, year in the header bar of the screen. I think iCal is reading that format to get the full date but then is not getting it right. I discovered that if I opened International and changed the format spec to US (not US Computer) and then changed it back to Custom, part of the error in iCal disappeared. The date no longer appeared for each event in the day panel of month view. Just the time showed. However, the full date still showed in the Edit panel, and it was still wrong. All the dates say "Jan". If I change to July, the dates are still "Jan" in the Edit panel. They are still "Jan" if I am in Week View, etc.
If I close iCal and then relaunch it, the error re-appears (if the date format in International is Custom), even if iCal was not showing the error in the day pane when I closed iCal.
    In sum:
If the date format in International is US and I launch iCal, there is no date in the day pane of month view and the date display in the Edit pane is correct.
If I change the date format in International to my Custom format, there is still no date in the day pane of month view BUT the date display in the Edit pane has the wrong month (Jan, no matter what the real month is).
If the date format is Custom and I relaunch iCal, the date appears in the day pane of month view and is wrong in the Edit panel.
I downloaded the calendar file to my laptop which is running iCal 4.0.4 under OS 10.6.7 and all displays were OK. BUT I had not messed with the date format on the laptop. So that only shows that there was nothing wrong with the calendar file as such. It is possible that if I changed the date format in International the iCal error would disappear and I could get it all OK on the desktop machine if I upgraded to 10.6. But I have a rule that says never upgrade to a new OS unless it is at least a year old. (That's been my unshakeable rule since 1983-4 :-) )
Has anyone else seen this weird iCal problem?

    Hi,
You can change this in System Preferences, Language & Text.
Go to System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats tab and change where it says Custom to your location. Then re-open iCal.
    Best wishes

  • ICal vs. Mail

    Hi all,
Does anyone have the faintest idea why iCal keeps quitting every time I send an e-mail?
iCal is open in the background. I compose and send an e-mail (having no involvement with iCal at all). Then just before I hear the "swoosh" of the e-mail having been sent, iCal disappears. There's no dialogue saying that application has quit and would I like to re-open or anything.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Paul C.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

No, no, I got it. I don't mean I can't find the date on which to drop it. I know the app will file it in the correct place.
I mean I don't know what date it's going to when I let it go, and if that date appears outside whatever view setting I'm using to look at my calendar, that is when I have to go play hide & seek.
I mean, seriously, wouldn't it make more sense If it opened a dialog box instead, to alert the user when a date was being requested? Offer them a look at the date in question, so they can decide if they want or are able to throw it on their calendar? Instead of assuming that by interacting with this heretofore unreadable calendar object you intend to accept it? Mind you the .ics icon does not tell the user what date is being requested--Mail does not communicate the date to the user unless and until it's viewed through iCal, and in the workaround you suggest, it assumes the user doesn't mind blindly throwing darts at their calendar. Open Drag Trust? The lack of an inspect-and-accept step in there disregards the user's needs.
I'm not a UI expert by any means, but this seems poorly executed. I appreciate this conversation. But it seems like we're talking about nuances of the problem that aren't the whole problem. I do feel like we're wandering in the wilderness together a little bit, and arguing about whether that's rain falling on us or ...I don't know, I guess I'm saying it's urine? Wow, this analogy is regrettable now that it's reached the conclusion. Either way, we're getting wet.
