My iCal/iCloud issues

(I'm not sure if this should be in the iCal or iCloud discussions) Like many of us here, I started trying out iCloud, but have run into a few frustrations regarding iCal. At first I thought all my events were being duplicated on my iPhone and my Mac. Then I realized that once I set-up iCloud to sync with iCal, two separate groups were created. A group of calendars called "On My Mac" and a group called "iCloud." My expectation was that everything on my mac would be transfered to the iCloud, and everything between the cloud, my mac, and my phone would be the same. Instead, a clone of my calenders was made and dubbed "iCloud," essentially creating two duplicate structures. I don't like this. Not only did it not provide the consolidation I anticipated, but iCloud loses the "Calender Group" functionality I had made in the iCal application on my Mac. Furthermore, all additional events created in my iPhone are only synced to this "iCloud" group, but not "On My Mac"
I realize that everything would be "the same" if I had chosen to delete my local calenders when I first set up iCloud. But I didn't feel comfortable doing that, and I feel like I shouldn't have to. The Address Book/Contacts, for example, behaves like I want iCal to. It's the same across everything. There isn't this distinction between "On My Mac" and "iCloud" the iCal has (unless I'm missing something).
It looks like I have two choices. Either not bother with iCloud when it comes to iCal, or delete all my local (Mac based) calenders (and subsequently their functionality). The whole thing just bothers me.
Is there a work-around that I'm missing? Or does everyone have the same issues?

Your expectation was correct. When you first activated Calendars in iCloud you should of been prompted to merge calendars from your Mac. This would of deleted the local carendars and replaced them with iCloud calendars. If the iCloud calendars are exact duplicates and are current then there's really no reason why you can't delete the "On My Mac" calendars. What functionality would you be losing?

  • IPhone iCal iCloud issues!  Not pushing info between Mac and phone.

My ical on my iPhone will not sync with ical on my desktop.  No data is pushed between devises even though I have set it up to automatically update.  All the calendars are listed as on the cloud, yet still no movement back and forth.  Please help!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

when creating an event in iCal (iCloud) and inviting attendees from my Address Book, the event doesn't appear to be sent via email ? Is anybody aware of this as a potential bug or do you know a workaround ? Thanks

The only solution was to wipe the hard drive and reload Leopard.

  • ICal Syncing Issues: iCloud & iMac to iPhone Not Working

I use iCal. I updated my iCal on my iMac and it updated to iCloud, but not my iPhone. When I open iCal on my iPhone, it cycles and cycles to update, but doesn't update. What can I do to get my iPhone iCal to sync?

I have the same issue. I have 2 iPhones (4 and 5) and an MacBook. When I enter an event in the MacBook, the event doesn't appear on either iPhone and conversely when I enter and event in the iPhones, it doesn't appear in the MacBook (and all devices are connected to internet via WiFi). It all used to work fine until about June 20th. The events are all entered on iCloud-synchronized calendars. When I send invites to events to myself or others, these are not received. Mail synchronization works fine between devices. As a test, I'll set up a Google calendar and see if this problem is related to iCloud.

  • ICloud iCal sync Issue: Only iPad has correct nfo

Of the four places (desktop, browser, iPhone, iPad) where my iCal is viewable I only have the proper info on the iPad.  I have toggled the iCal On/Off in the preferences pane of both MBP and iPhone to no good outcome. How do I get the iPad's correct info to populate across the other devices.  This annoying developement is recent and inexplicable, I have had no major system / software issues, all other aspects of iCloud are working properly.  I have most recent software on all iOS devices and 10.7.4 on the MBP.  Used to be there was a prompt asking how you wanted MobileMe to merge info... is it just me or was MobileMe more granular (like being able to reset sync history) and conceptually more understandable?  Anyway I'd greatly appreciate any leads, I've come up empty on this forum and the other mac forums.

Fixed it. In case anybody else has this issue or simular. uncheck the calendar option in the icloud prefs, then check it back on. A little to simple.

  • ICal/iCloud sync issue

    I have: Mac OS X (10.7.5), iPad 2G, iPhone 4S, 32GB iPod Touch 2G
I've spent a LOT of time looking for some iCal help and so far haven't found it.  There are SO many issues that I accidentally responded to one from a year ago.
MY PROBLEM:  I can't get iCal (on iMac) to update to iCloud, so my phone and ipod won't update.
I've seen numerous issues where events created on devices don't show up on the desktop/notebook calendar.
SO, I tried creating a test event (on my phone) while connected to the iMac. Then I disconnected the phone and created another test event.
All 3 places (cloud, itouch,  iMac) got the info immediately!  This makes my problem the opposite of most.
I went to this page for some help: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3999
    I checked default calendars, etc.
I especially looked at Troubleshooting Calendar at iCloud.com
It didn't help me at all.  I didn't even get the message to let apple know.
    Please HELP me!!!!

I have this problem but have not tried iCloud directly, just downloading it to my computer:
I am running OS X 10.7.5;  I joined a webinar last night and am getting the same error message, just about:
Access to "(the webinar I joined)” in “(the calendar I chose” in account “(my apple id)” is not permitted.
    The server responded:
    “403”
    to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation.
My options are:  Go Offline   or   Revert to Server
This is a recurring entry using a downloaded .ics.  Have downloaded it several times with the same result, does not matter which calendar I put it in.  It does put in the first session, puts the second one in the wrong date, puts in no more.  I have entered it manually which gets it in there but the error message keeps coming up.  I also imported it from the .ics file I downloaded, rather than using the online method from the website, and then from the email, where the webinar originates.  (Also does not matter what calendar I put it into, have tried more than one.)
This is happening on a late 2008 MBP as well as a mid 2011 iMac.
    Not Mountain Lion.
Last time I joined a webinar, which was probably a couple weeks ago, from the same source as this one, there was no problem adding it to the calendar.

  • ICal and iCloud issues on new BT ISP

My iCloud and iCal Calanders were working fine until last week when I switched to a new broadband provider (BT or British Telecom) and a new router supplied by them.
Now I find a small warning triangle in iCal next to my calendar name, clicking on it reveals an error message saying "The request for account "ICloud" failed. I have signed out of iCloud but I am now unable to sign back in, a message appears saying "you can't sign in at this time, try again".
iCloud syncing has failed on my iphone 3, MBP and my iMac.
I'm guessing this has something to do with my new WiFi set up or being on a new server with my new ISP. Unfortunately I do not know where to start to resolve this issue. Any advice?
I'm using Mavericks (10.9.5) on the iMac and 10.8.5 on the MBP. Help! this is affecting my work.

I forgot about the home/sleep button hold-down option.  Worth a try.  --But it didn't work for this problem.
Still have the green app saying there are 26 (already read) messages waiting.
    Any other ideas?
(and thanks so much for the quick replies!!)

  • ICal Events on iPhone 4S IOS 5 and Lion with iCloud issue.

Last week I tried to create an event on the 4th of May just to remind me of a past particular special event in my life. I created it in Lion on my iMac and after a couple of seconds it vanished. I then tried creating it on my iPhone 4S IOS 5 and the same happened.
Then I tried switching Calendars off in my iCloud settings and did the whole thing once again. By doing so events remained for ever on the device even after I switched back on the Calendars in my iCloud and merged all the events that were on the computer and device.
Still, when I go back and search for the event to see if it's still there and edit it, it once again vanishes.

Does anyone know how to resolve my question (first paragraph in original posting) regarding uneditable calendar items on iPhone (with regards to syncing through iCloud)?  Thanks.

  • How do I stop receiving calendar invites on iCal/iCloud and use exchange 2013 calendar instead?

I Have an exchange 2013 email account which isn't registered as part of my iCloud account.
i Use my outlook calendar (exch) for work and the same exch calendar day to day from all my iOS devices.
when a colleague or outside email away from my company sends me a calendar meeting request, it works fine. (Using my exch email as the invite recipient).
my girlfriend sends me a meeting request from her hotmail account using the same exch email address for me, but he. Invites always arrive to my iCloud/iCal calendar instead! I can't seem to change it so I often miss diary notes or reminders unless I constantly look at both calendars.
i Just want to use exchange calendar and lose iCal (or if easier sync both iCal and exchange calendars vica versa - but that may be over complicating the issue, basically I just need one calendar and would rather it be my outlook exchange cal)
    any ideas?

    Hello again,
False alarm..... it didnt work sorry.
I removed the iCal accounts from my mac, and also from my iphone. Then when my partner sent me a calendar invite it simply didnt arrive at all!
She has a hotmail account installed on her IOS iphone 5.
She is sending the invite to my exch 2013 email address which is not associated with any icloud account.
My exch 2013 email is installed in both my Outlook for mac 2011 and IOS device Iphone 5s.
When I switch the iCloud Calendar back on in my iphone 5s, the invite comes through but ONLY optional to the icloud calendar. I cannot seem to get it receiving on my default calendar which is set to Exchange 2013 account.
Its very strange as its only her invites that do this. Anyone else's come through on my exchange calendar because its the same email address receeving it my end.

  • Ical sharing issue

I have an icloud account that i share calenders with my work collegues just fine, i wanted to share just my home calender with my wife, but there is where the issue starts. My home calender on my Imac is shared via a me.com icloud account. When i type my wifes me.com email address to share it does nothing, in so far as it sends her no invitation direct to her icloud calender or her email address via the share link. If however i send it to her itunes based address i.e a yahoo.co.uk address it goes through as a link on the email and via a browser she can see the shared calender, also after doing this its visable on her iphone 4S, however no matter how i change her settings its just does not come on to her mac. Both the iphone and macpro icloud is logged in under the me.com account not the itunes account so why would this be?
Its really making me scratch my head.
Just for info...both my ical and hers are running mountain lion and both iphones are updated to the latest iOS.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Have you checked her mail rules and filtering, the email may be going to a junk folder or even being deleted.

  • ICal, iCloud, and meeting invitation woes

Hi all. Fair warning - I'm brand new to the Mac world. I'm a long-time Windows user who now has a shiny new MacBook Pro, primarily for the benefit of what I can already tell is superior hardware.
On the software side, however, I'm struggling with the migration. I've solved most of my issues, but one is really eluding me. I have Office 2011, including Outlook, but I keep being told by Mac users that Outlook on the Mac is buggy and is inferior to using iCal, Apple Mail, and Address Book. Ok, I'll bite. I've been trying to use these tools as my primary means for handling my mail and calendar needs. This is where I run into trouble.
My world of data, like most people's, is split into two:  work and personal. For personal, I primarly use google tools including google calendar and gmail. For work, I have an IMAP mail system with a work e-mail account, but we have no work-based calendar server. I have an iPad2 and an iPhone4. This is all relevant because what I want is to have mail and events, both work and personal, synchronized and accessible across all my devices over "the cloud." The personal side is easy enough to handle. I added my google calendar to iCal, just like I added it on my phone and iPad, so no worries there. E-mail, similarly, is simple enough. The issue is when I try to figure out how to handle my work calendar.
My first thought was iCloud - but my Apple ID, used by iCloud is based on my personal e-mail account (gmail). I've found that when I try to add an event to my iCloud "work" calendar in iCal and invite attendees (a very very common practice in my business world), the invitation comes from my gmail account and my gmail account is listed as the organizer of the event. This is a huge problem for me. In searching online, people suggest all sorts of different ways of solving this. Re-ordering the e-mail addresses on the "Me" contact card in Address Book. Re-ordering the accounts in Mail. I even went as far as deleting my gmail account from both Mail and Address Book. Nothing works. I'm assuming that because the event is created in iCloud, that the organizer is set to the Apple ID that is associated with the iCloud account, and there seems to be nothing I can do about that.
My second thought was to create another Apple ID and use that one to create a new iCloud calendar for my work life, but I'm under the impression that you can't have more than one iCloud account actively syncing on an iPhone or iPad.
My current solution is to have a calendar that is only "On My Mac" that I create work events on. I've found that if I have Mail set to send new messages, by default, from my work e-mail address, then new meeting invitations on the Mac-only calendar are sent on behalf of my work account, with my work account listed as the organizer. This solution, while working on the Mac itself, does not solve my synchronization issues with my iPhone and iPad. I suppose I could sync through iTunes, but my calendar is so active that I'd really prefer to have a cloud-based solution.
All that being said - is there a cloud-based solution to having both a personal and work calendar, with each calendar being associated with different e-mail addresses? Is there any way to change the e-mail account associated with a specific calendar in either iCal or iCloud? If not, there probably should be!
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hello there.
Exact same situation here. Do you have a solution yet? Also for me its not acceptable to send meeting invitations from my personal account which is also my apple id...

  • Ical Icloud synch problem - new

I have a problem with Ical sync with iCloud on one of my two Imacs, both running latest Lion 10.7.3.  On one of the iMacs, the synch works the way it should - meaning that any change I make in the iCloud calendar gets pushed to that iMac, and any change that I make on the desktop iCal gets pushed to iCloud.
But on my other iMac, with exact same configuration of iCal, exact same config of iCloud the results are puzzling.  I have a total of 6 calendars, nonoe local to either desktop and all 6 on the cloud. On 2 out of the 6 calendars, iCloud changes geet pushed to the desktop, but I am unable to even see any events on the other 4 calendars - all of them are checked to display.  I went through the website troubleshooting which included quitting iCal on the desktop with difficulty, then unchecking iCloud clendar, then waiting a minute, then rechecking the iCloud calendar. Then restarting the dsestop. Same results. I did it twice to be sure. I still only see 2 out of the 6 calendars.  Can't figure it out.  Another odd thing is that when I create a new event on the problem iMac desktop, I don't get a chance to indicate which calendar I want, or which dsate I wawnt, or what tiime I want. The event just defaults to my default calendar, gets pushed to the cloud, gets pushed to the other iMac  and shows up, but I can't see it on the problem iMac.

    Greetings,
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • Ical syncing issues with iphone/imac after lion OS update.

    Hi All,
I upgraded to lion and now have two issues with syncing my iphone and ipad to my imac.
First issue is that calander entries created on the iphone/ipad do not appear in the imac calander after syncing.
Second issue is that if I change an calander entry on my imac, the old entry and the new entry will show up on my iphone.  For example. I created an event and accidently clicked out of it before changing the name.  I then reopened that entry and changed the name and date. In my imac ical calender I only had one entry at the final date with the correct name.  When I synced my iphone and ipad however two events showed up on the iphone and ipad. The original "new event", and the event with the correct name and date.
The same thing happened when I had the same event occuring for 5 days,  I manual copied the one event five times on the one day and then dragged them to the correct days in ical on my imac.  When I synced my iphone I had both the 5 entries on the one day, as well as the entries on the days I had dragged them to.
In summary, now when I look at my calander in ical on my imac it looks great, but on my iphone it has all these extra entries. It is as though when it syncs it shows me all of my previous entries and changes, instead of the actual current calander.
Any thoughts how I can get the imac and iphone icals to look the same?
and in case you were wondering, I dont use Icloud.  I did set it up and turned it off after the duplicate entry problem that everyone has mentioned.  I dont have that duplicate entry issue anymore.
    Thanks
    Adrian

From what your write, it is a little hard to tell, what exactly your problem is, though you may want to try the following, which helped me at time:
    step one:
export all of your calendars one by one, including the one with entries giving you problems
    step two:
erase all of your calendars and create a dummy character, check if syncing works with that one.
reimport the previously exported calendars one by one, redoing the syncing routines.
In the instances I had problems, I found that exporting and reimporting a calendar file usually did away with the problem
Also, at least on my machines, turning on the birthday link to address book, created some problems, so you might want to try without that feature too.
If you got everything working on one machine, another strategy can be to reinitiate syncing from that one, i.e. erase and reinstall the syncing process on the others. Just make sure you have an up to date back up of your entries.

  • Ical sync issue between Iphone and Ipad

I seem to be having issues syncing events between my Iphone to my Ipad.  icloud is enabled on both and it appears that all the calendars are enabled for syncing.  Any help with this would be appreciated.

I'm having this issue as well.  I have tried the add new account as was mentioned in other posts (going through the Advanced settings and changing the server location), but it appears that I would be duplicating accounts, and "that is not supported".  I also am having issues with alerts not going to me, but to my husband (who has a google.com email).  When I check the Address Book to see what the main contact card is, it shows my information, yet I am not receiving alerts and my email is not an option to select.  When I changed my Apple Id, he received the confirmation email (as did I).  What do I need to do to: 1) get alerts to come to me and not my husband and 2) sync my iCal with macbook, iPhone, and iPad?  Thanks!
