My ichat not working

since this afternoon, my ichat not working in my macbook pro, the error massage is as below, yet the ichat on my iphone also not working

HI,
If you are using Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.x) then you will have Messages and not iChat.
Messages can do everything that iChat can do and more.
The More is the iMessages bit.
This uses the "registration" of an Apple ID with the iMessages servers
You can use the same ID on your iPhone or iPad in the iOS version of Messages.
iMessages are then displayed across all devices.  (Generally refered to as "Syncing" but it is display  only)
However Messages does come with a large interface window that also doubles as a tabbed Chat window.
In Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts you should have your AIM, AIM Valid and Jabber IDs set up if you migrated from Lion.
This will give you a Keystroke in the Window Menu of CMD + 1 for the "Buddies" option.
This is a combined Buddy list.
You can unlink them in the General Section of the Messages preferences.

  • IChat not working with Tiger user

I recently received a new Macbook with Leopard already installed on it. I have 2 friends who also own Macbooks, who I iChat with.
One of my friends received her Macbook when Leopard just came out, so she had Tiger on it previously . The other friend has had her Macbook longer, and does not have Leopard, just Tiger.
When attempting to start an iChat with the friend with Tiger, it would not work. The weird thing about it though is that it has worked a few times before, if we kept trying and I found if I restarted my computer.
However, now the friend that previously had Tiger had problems with her Macbook and received a brand new one with Leopard already on it. Now it does not work for her to start an iChat with the Tiger user, although she had no problems with her old computer.
    Sorry it's confusing!
But in conclusion, it seems that iChat is not working between a Leopard and Tiger user. The confusing part is that we have gotten it to work before...so I'm really not sure what the problem is.
What can we try to get this to work all the time, without her having to upgrade to Leopard?
I usually get an error response saying there was no data received for the last 10 seconds, and she gets different things about Bandwidth, and saying she cancelled the invitation when she didn't.
    Thanks

Personally, I think it's Leopard that is at fault here. I had Tiger and my family and I would video iChat all the time. But then we downloaded Leopard. We discovered we could no longer video iChat.
My son used 4 different computers (all Macs of course), trying same network and different networks. What he discovered is that the ONLY way video iChat now works is if computers are on the same network. Well, how absurd, because the idea is to be able to video iChat with anyone, not just family members in the same household on the same network.
Apparently, somewhere, Apple (Leopard) bragged about their new improved iChat video on a network. Well, I think they forgot that not all of us are sitting in an office wanting to spend the time to iChat video with co-workers, but have friends and family in other areas we'd like to video iChat with.
So through a process of elimination, it all led back to Leopard as being the culprit, because Tiger to Tiger worked perfectly, and even Leopard to Tiger works IF you are on the same network.
I really do hope Apple supplies a FIX for this problem. I, for one, am VERY disappointed in the fact that I now have Leopard and can no longer video iChat with friends across the country.

  • IChat not working with Open Directory users

I have a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard Server 10.6.1. It provides services like Address Book, iCal, iChat, Mobile Access, MySQL, Web, SMB, Push, etc... I named the server 'Alpha' with the hostname 'alpha.markhadjar.com'
I use DynDNS to help update my dynamic IP address with my ISP. They host my domain markhadjar.com. I created an 'A' record for markhadjar.com using my current IP. The DynDNS software client sends my current dynamic IP address and updates the record. I also created an alias for 'www'.
Airport Extreme port forwards the correct ports to the requested server providing those services.
All my users are listed in the Open Directory. My trouble is I can't seem to get iChat to work for the OD users. I get a connection error.
The jabber account i'm using is the [email protected] I use the server 'ichat.markhadjar.com' with port 5222 without SSL as I do not have a SSL certificate.
In the ichat settings of Server Admin, I specified ichat.markhadjar.com as the server name. I also created an alias in DynDNS for ichat.markhadjar.com - not sure if that was needed.
I cannot connect using iChat to the server. I even changed the server in the iChat preferences (client side) to just markhadjar.com with no luck.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

Mark, you mention that this server 'alpha' is running many things including Mobile Access Server. Do you also run Open Directory on the server? I am trying to figure out if Open Directory is required to be running on the server that runs Mobile Access for it to work in authenticating users and granting them appropriate access. I am hoping it is not required, because I'm having problems getting it to replicate from the Master OD server. It would be easier if it doesn't need to run OD at all. But then if it doesn't run OD, what do I need to do to "bind" it to the other internal origin server? I have read all the MObile Access doc's 50 times, and this is not clear to me. Just wondering how you are using Mobile Access. thanks man!

  • Ichat to ichat not working

OK guys looking for some advice, I recently bought a isight to use in my mac mini. I set myself up a AIM account and use it through ichat. I tried getting it working with my dad on his mac notebook and we kept getting an error flashing up in the screen of the webcam display saying that there was no information received for 10 seconds and then the chat closes and it says to go to the connection doctor for more information. However later on that night i opened up a web/voice chat with my friend on a aim 5.9 triton and i had no problems getting the 2 cameras and the mics working. What is keeping me from chatting with the ichat computers? how come everything will work well with the aim users? has anyone had similar problems?

I am NOT troubled by a continuing difficulty connecting with Macs while maintaining an ability to connect with PCs. However, I occasionally get various strange error messages. Often, closing the window and calling back results in a working video.
If trying again does not resolve your problem, it is possible that your dad's Mac needs work. You can tell who has the problem if BOTH of you test with others. (Buddy Names for iChat Test if needed)
The suggestions in response to bc43's current question, iSight not working, may help you.

  • Ichat not working

I just got the macbook about a week ago and tried connecting with my sister and it would work but after a couple minutes it was freeze and the error message said that no data was received in the last 10 seconds. I live in Orlando and she lives about 2 hours south in Port St. Lucie. A couple days after that, I connected with my friend who lives in the same town and it worked perfectly fine until we started a chat again with my sister and we are now getting the same errors....the screen will freeze and the same error message will come up. We contacted apple support and change our port settings but nothing has worked. Our computers are brand new and we figure that cannot be the issue. The audio chat does not work as well. It freezes as well. We have also gotten information that it could be the different internet connections or the specific time of day we are using it. If there is any other solution, please help. Thanks.

I changed all those settings and have been even trying other ones but the problem still exists. I am bringing my computer home with me this weekend so maybe being connected to the same wireless network will help the ichat work a little better. If there are any other suggestions as to why this problem keeps recurring and solutions, please let me know. Thanks!!!

  • Screen Sharing in iChat not working

iChat under Leopard seems to work fine, I got everything running including video chats and theatre but screen sharing (which works via Finder locally without problem) does not work. I cannot get to see any screen of my iChat partner while he gets a inital 'screenshot' which is not updating, nothing else.
It cannot be a firewall issue as both Macs have been moved to the firewall DMZ and Leopard Firewall is off.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Since the earlier post I have managed to Screen Share.
I did put the Mac Firewall On.
It was then as simple as using the item in the iChat Buddies menu (The option to allow sharing has to be On in the Video menu)
It replaced the Video I was having and does not go back to the Video when the Keystroke of Control+ESC is used and the Video chat has to be re-established.
    I do not have Encryption.

  • Why is ichat not working

I just got back from vacation and I can't get my ichat to work . . . it won't connect at all . . . any thoughts?

    Hi,
My guess (And it is a guess at this stage based on the little info you have posted) is that as your computer sounds like it have been away from you home LAN and on coming back it has a new IP from the router and you had ports set up for iChat based on the old IP.
    iChat version ?  (OS Version)
How did you set up your router the first time (when it worked) ?
Did the computer go on holiday with you as I suggest or is it just jealous of your time away ?
(if you powered everything down before you went away the change in IP may still apply)

  • AIM in ichat not working it says i have the wrong password when i know its right

why cant i sign in!? i know its the right password because it just worked and now it says i have the wrong id or password

    Hi,
The most common cause of this is that you are using a Valid Apple ID that is also a Valid AIM Screen Name (ending in @Mac.com or @me.com) but the password is too long for the AIM servers.
Although Apple have an agreement to allow these forms of Apple ID to be valid AIM Screen Names AIM only manages passwords up to 16 characters.  (Apple encourages you to create longer ones)
The next one is creating an iCloud issued @me.com names and trying to use it in iChat 5 or earlier as this will not work.
iChat 6 and Messages Beta also log in to Me.com.  This allows the AIM servers to "see" the password.
Earlier versions of iChat do not do this Dual Login and therefore AIM cannot access the password.

  • Ichat not working after recent Lion OSX update. What happened?

After installing todays update of Lion, my ichat does not work. It will not let me log in, only displaying "ichat cannot communicate with the account."

What recent update?  The last Epson R220 update for non intel Macs was 08/19/10:  http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=60202&prodoid=58654 761&BV_UseBVCookie=yes&infoType=Downloads&platform=Macintosh&x=21&y=13
What happens when you click on the EPSON Printer Utility which should be inside the Utility folder?  Have you tried repairing permissions and restarting your computer?  Have you read Epson's user manual and/or contacted their tech support?
I also have the R220 model.  Besides using their drivers, I also use the Gimp drivers:  http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php

  • IChat not working. Weird Message

A few days ago before I left on a trip I tested iChat at home and all seemed to work fine.
Today I am sitting at a remote location and decided to try iChat with family back home. When I login all seems fine until I press the camera icon. I get the message "This computer does not support video conferencing".
I can see the green light ON my MacBook Pro and seems like the sound bar is moving. Tried rebooting etc but it gives the same message. I am only able to message normal IM chat. I am using AOL account. Running Leopard and iChat version 4.02(604)
I did test to see if the camera was working with Photo Booth and everything seems fine with that application.
Any suggestions please how to make it work?
    Thanks

  • IChat not working since iOS 5 update

My iChat is not working since the iOS 5 update.  Everytime I go to log in it says: "iChat can not communicate with the AIM account..."  Is anyone else having a problem since the new update was released?

    Hi Chris,
Does it read login.oscar.aol.com in the server Setting tab  ?
(iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings)
    Hi bryanfromcottonwood,
In Previous versions iChat was set up to automatically change the Server Name fro AIM logins when starting or turning Off SSL.  (it tended to look like the leading "s" appeared or disappeared).
IT Changed from login.oscar.aol.com to slogin.oscar.aol.com
There are suggestions that this does not happen now.
It is not known if this is done deliberately for "Security" or an error in the Update file.

  • Ichat not working-grey buddy lists

Hi, ichat is not working. Grey buddy list all the time. Is this normal? Looking around it was suggested that I look into firewall issues. There, a surprise. First, my firewall is on. After, I have Personal file sharing, Aol IM, Ichat Bonjour, UDP 554, UDP 7070, and Network Time all checked.(Don't know what some of these do.) BUT, I see no ichat av choice. Don't I need this? Did I lose this and how do I get it back.
Under accounts I have a aim account, MSN friends(don't understand this one), a mac account and Bonjour. The Aim and Bonjour are checked. If someone could walk me through my errors, I'd really appreciate it.
Final question. Does it make a difference whether I use the mac account or the aim? I just want to be able to talk to people on ichat and msn. Video for ichat on macs/chat only msn and video for pc through Skype.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Sorry is what I posted was unclear.
Starting or making iChat go back to the Start Up Screens does not do what I think you want to do. (get rid of the mass of incorrectly added Buddies).
This is what I Posted before.
If you can Log On to the AIM servers for yourself but think that some of the Buddies have been added incorrectly it may pay to select all of them and then press the Backspace to delete them. (It will ask you to confirm).
You can delete the Buddy List one at a time or by selecting All of them and then use the BackSpace/Delete key.
However if the Buddies also have an Entry in the Address Book that needs to have the screen name delete as well otherwise you have problems with Feedbag errors when adding Buddies back again.
    So,
Re 1. No, Do not delete iChat.
re 2. Do not bother as it does not do what you want.
Re 3. If you want to start from the Start Up screens then Delete the .plists
+NOTE: This does not delete your Buddy List which is kept on the AIM servers.+
+You have to delete each buddy that is spelt or entered wrong in iChat whilst Logged in to AIM to delete them. Adding Real Names to the Buddy List Name entry card adds them to your Address Book as a Back up to the AIM servers.+
I hope that make things clearer.

  • IChat not working since Leopard upgrade

Using a 2GHz iMac. Trying to connect to my brother's 2 GHz (running 10.4) Macbook. Used to work fine. Since upgrading to 10.5 earlier this week, I keep getting messages such as "There was a communication error during your chat" "Did not receive a response from........etc.", and never actually get through.
The iMac's on a wireless network, - an airport extreme and an airport express, bridged together to extend the range.
I've had a look at the other similar problems on the discussions board, tried changing the network port settings, turning off internet sharing, changing the Quicktime streaming speed, but no luck.
Anyone have any similar issues, or better, any solutions? Not much point giving me the ability to change the background in iChat, if nobody but me can see it!

    Possibly.
Depends on how the Tiger person has ports open in their routing device.
This Doc http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208 Say iChat goes through a set of Stages using 6 ports (Invite on port 5678 - Negotiation on port 5060 and then the chat on 4 ports starting at 16384 and going up)
This Doc for iChat 4 http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306688
Says it does everything on one port but starts at the top of the range listed in the first Doc and then moves down oly if the others are busy or do not work And this is limited to 10 ports.
Now some devices can only Port Forward. On top of that some of those can only Port Forward 20 ports and the Tiger list is from 29 ports and on two protocols which can mean 31 entries.
These users have been managing 1-1 chats on the lower ports fine by missing out setting certain ports they don't need like Bonjour and /or Jabber and possibly some of the top end of the group of twenty.
Jabber and Bonjour can be a total of 7 entries and therefore is used significantly cut into the group of twenty.
This leaves a potential gap between iChat 3 and iChat 4 in certain circumstances.
I hope I have made that clear enough.
    Thanks for the points
