my iCloud Backup button is grayed out and i cant turn it on. All my devices are on Wifi. Help! Both my ipad and iPhone

A number of employers will push a security profile to your phone when you add their exchange account that prevents you from backing it up to iCloud.  They do this because they don't want confidential company information on another companies servers.  If this is the case, you will find a setting called "Profile" in Settings>General near the bottom.
You would have to contact the company's IT department to confirm that they are preventing you from backing up to iCloud but that's normally what causes the iCloud backup setting to be grayed our or missing from an iOS device.

Charge it for 15 minutes with the mains charger, then disconnect and hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons for 10-15 seconds until an Apple logo appears.

  • While editing photos in Aperture, I'm trying to make an "auto" adjustment to the exposure but the button is grayed out and consequently doesn't perform any function, please help! Thank you, Mike

While editing photos in Aperture, I trying to make an "auto" adjustment to the exposure,
but the "auto" button is grayed out and will not allow any auto function to take place.
    Please help!
    Thank you,

Mike, are you working with raw images?
For some raw images auto exposure is not available, have a look at this manual page:
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=18%26se ction=9%26tasks=true
Note: Automatic exposure adjustment is available for Aperture-supported RAW images only. If you want to adjust the exposure of another file type, such as JPEG or TIFF, see Working with the Exposure Controls. For a list of supported RAW file types, go to the Apple website at http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs.

Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then click the iCloud icon.
    Click the Manage button.
    Click Change Storage Plan.
    Click Downgrade Options.
Enter your Apple ID password, then click Manage.
Choose your current plan, then click Done.

  • I have a MacBook Pro. Lately my volume button is grayed out and not working. Any solutions on how to fix this? Thanks.

I have  an older MacBook Pro (circa 2009). Lately I've noticed my volume button is grayed out and I cannot adjust it. I've tried rebooting. Sometimes it becomes available to use and other times not. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!

Reset the SMC.   Check the Audio Midi Setup utility.  If connected to an external display that has audio, that may have hijacked the audio.

Same here.... No fix. Replacing is the option apparently and if you're out of warranty, you're SOL. That was as per the "Genius" at Apple.

  • TS1398 My Wifi button is grayed out, and resetting my wireless settings didn't help at all. What should I do? (2nd Generation iPod Touch)

The Wifi button on my iPod touch is grayed out, and reads, "No Wi'Fi", but won't give me the option to change it. I reset the Wireless settings, but there were no rresylts. What should I do?

    Not good. See:

If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

  • ICloud settings in iphone grayed out and crashes

When I go to settings/icloud on my iphone 4, everything is grayed out and crashes when trying to verify. Email address shows my itunes account but won't let me change to the new .me account I set up at icloud.com.  Any ideas?

If your new ID was changed (renamed) from your old ID rather than being an entirely new ID, recreate it by going to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Why would an iCloud backup file be grayed out on an initial iPhone 5s setup screen?

I have a 4s with the latest update and recently upgraded to a 5s. I backed everything up in iCloud on the 4s before setting up the 5s. After everything is done, I stated the 5s setup. However, after I select 'restore from iCloud,' the backup file I need from my 4s is grayed out (no error message) and is not selectable.
My first thought was that the new 5s didn't have the latest update. So I started the phone, updated it, and then followed the recommended instructions on how to restore a backup file. The restoration seemes to wipe the ios update and the backup file is still gray.
Scoured the forums and google for an answer and came up with nothing. So I pose it to the group.

UPDATE (13-Jan 2015): Took my phone do a different AppleStore and had an appointment with a Genius. The Genius hinted that I should call AppleCare (1-800-APL-CARE) and tell them my story. He said that it was not possible for him to do it, but that by escalating the problem to AppleCare that they may help. I was on the phone with a rep and his supervisor for about an hour before they told the Genius to replace my phone as a one-time out-of-warranty replacement. They stated that because the phone was working fine before the update, and showed no damage, that they would grant my request. Yay Apple for making this right!
This is a known bug, error 101 or something.  Only solution they have at the moment is warranty replacement.

  • ICloud account email is grayed out and I cannot change it.  How can I change it?

My iCloud account is grayed out on my iPad and iPhone and I cannot change it.  It was previoudly set up as my email account that I no longer have access to.  I was apple to change my Apple ID, but not the iCloud account.  How can I change it?

  • "Edit SSL" grayed out, and Services automatically turning off

Hey, folks.  I'm trying to get my Lion Server up and running, and I've hit two (related?) problems.
First, the various services won't turn on.  I try to turn on iCal, for example, and it thinks about it for a minute, then it seems to be done.  But it doesn't get the green light by the name, and as soon as I navigate to another service and come back, it switches to Off.  Am I missing some massively simple step?
And second, when I try to set up an SSL certificate, I can't press the "Edit" button.  Step #2 of the Help section article is "click Edit next to SSL certificate", but it's grayed out...
Any ideas on how to fix these two, seemingly simple problems?

I followed the steps here: https://help.apple.com/advancedserveradmin/mac/10.7/#apd163efc3a-1465-4a44-ad2d- c76094144512 and it seems to be working now.

  • HT1695 i have a 4S , when i upgraded the software in the previous upgrade my wi-fi button has "greyed out " and i cannot turn on wi-fi, any suggestions please ?

wi-fi button on 4S has greyed out and cant turn on wi-fi , any suggestions please ?

First try a simple reset by holding down the home and power button for 15 to 30 seconds until you see the silver apple, then let the device start normally. If issues still persist, you will need to restore and update the iPhone from iTunes on your pc or mac. If after the restore still grey your device may need service or replacement.
