If you mean your ID name, you can go to https://appleid.apple.com to manage your ID and click Edit next to your Apple ID and change the name. You will get a pop-up message telling you what the requirements of the name are.

My icloud email address is wrong and I can't change it!

So i have changed jobs, email address and phone - I have updated my Apple ID to my new email address. Everytime I turn on my phone it tells me I need to enter my icloud password but it lists my old email address as the sign in address. I have tried to delete the account but it asks to "Enter the password for "oldemail address" to turn off Find my iPhone" - as I dont remember the password I cant turn it off and delete the account.
Is there a way to update the icloud email address? The field is greyed out unde the "icloud account information page" so cant do anything there.
What do I need to do - very frustrated!

When you say you updated your apple id, do you mean you logged into your old apple id and edited your email by changing it to your new email? If so, you need to go to appleid.apple.com on a web browser and log in with the new email and then edit the email back to the old email. Then go to icloud settings on your phone and turn off Find my iphone. Go to bottom of that page and Delete the account but keep info on your phone. Then go back to appleid.apple.com and change the email back to the new one. Go back on your phone and log into icloud with the new appleid email.

Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

you can reset your password. restart, and hold down Command-s before the apple logo appears (when the screen is white). you will see scrolling scripts until you see something like "root:" then type /sbin/mount -uw / to mount the disk. after that, type sudo passwd admin or whatever your admin password is. type in the new password two times. it doesn't show what you typed when you type the password so make sure you are pressing the right keys. after you done that, type exit to start up the computer. now you will be able to login with the new password.

I think you can fix by plugging it in and restore plus back up. Go to apple.com to see if there would be another way.

I have attempted to upgrade os4 to os7. icloud has taken an old expiered email address for which i do not know the password. It will not recognise my current email and password with itunes. Any help appreciated

I have attempted to upgrade os4 to os7. At the end, it threw an error that i had to turn off "Find my iphone" on my phone, which seems to be impossible at that stage as i could not access beyond the upgrade screen.
I thin chose to set up as new iphone, but icloud has taken an old expired email address for which i do not know the password. icloud will not recognise my current itunes email and password, so i now have os7 but am unable to restore from my itunes back up.

If you don't know your password, don't know your security questions and don't have a rescue address or don't receive a reset email, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.
If you are in a region that doesn't have international telephone support try contacting Apple through iTunes Store Support.

Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID

IF you forget your email and password and you are stuck in the activation process, it usually gives you a clue on what is your email like w********[email protected] If you really own the phone, you already have a clue on what is that email add. Then go to appleid.apple.com, click on manage my device, enter what you think is your email addy (no harm in trying that it wont lock) then click on i forget password. This will give you an option to either sent the password to an alternate email. If you have several, then sad to say you have to open it one by one and check including your spam mails. Another option is to answer some security questions you made while creating an apple id. Your last option is to call apple support. If you know the email add and you can prove ownership, they can reset the password for you
