My icloud storage says it's almost full yet I don't know why

I've read that a photo stream does not affect the icloud storage but how do I know what I should delete in order to free up more storage? I'm clueless to this stuff. Thanks.

You are correct about photo stream; it doesn't count against your storage.
If you go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage you will see what is using your space.
If you tap the name of your device under Backups, it will tell you what is using space in your backup.
This guide provides options for managing and reducing these: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4847.
(Often, importing your photos and videos to your computer and deleting them off your device, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083, will significantly reduce the size of your backup and reduce the space used in your iCloud account.)

Plug it in to power for at least 15 minutes.  If it doesn't automatically come on, try a Reset... press the home and sleep/lock buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • I can't create an icloud account from my occasion iphone 5. I don't know why...

I bought before some days an occasion iphone 5, but always when I like to create an icloud account, in final of the process, it appears a message like that "This device (iphone) is not allowed to create a free icloud". what I must do?

Yes.  This is what you friend would need to do.  He (she) would need to start by saving any photo stream photos on his phone to his camera roll unless they are already there.  To do this, he should go to his my photo stream album, tap Select (Edit in iOS 6), tap the photos, tap the share icon--box with upward pointing arrow (Share in iOS 6), then tap Save to Camera Roll.  Then he should go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted.  (If he is running iOS 7 he will be prompted to also enter his iCloud password to turn off Find My iPhone.)  This will only delete his iCloud data from his phone, not from his iCloud account.  His data will sync back to his phone when he signs back in.
Then you can go to Settings>iCloud on his phone and sign in with your Apple ID to create your new account.  Leave all other settings off and do not choose Merge with iCloud if you are prompted (since you do not want his data in your new account).  Then tap Delete Account to delete your new account from his phone (and provide your password if prompted to turn off Find My iPhone).
Then your friend can go to Settings>iCloud on his phone, sign back in with his iCloud ID and his data will sync back to his phone as it was before.
Then you can go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and sign in with your Apple ID.  Since you are signing into an existing iCloud account this time you will not receive the prompt that your phone is not allowed to create.  Then you shoudl be good to go.

  • After moving to maverick, my harddrive is now full and I don't know why

I continue to receive 'startup disk is full' errors and my harddrive now has only 1G free??  I have a 70G hard drive and I keep basically nothing on my harddrtive.....and I cannot compact anything on the harddrive becasue it tells me I'm not the 'owner' for certain types of files.

    Is this necessary?
No, but it indicates that the drive is malfunctioning.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Hard drive is full, but I don't know why

I can't seem to find out where all the space in my hard drive is taken. Itunes, idvd, etc don't show huge files. The window in finder does not show the size of each file either. How can I find out where it all is?

Use a program such as WhatSize or Disk Inventory X to determine where the space is being used.

There are some items to the right of these reply boxes,
of them a few are likely to be of help to some extent...
Without knowing which OS X version, advice will be not specific
and to answer three different ways when one of them is correct
    is a waste of time.
Is your OS X newer than Lion 10.7.5? IF so different rules apply
to finding out what is free space, where it is, & how to tell if it is.
For systems older than Lion (Snow Leopard, Leopard, Tiger, Panther)
the rules are a little different, since there would not be an Other item
on the hard disk drive which could contain items necessary to the OS
yet not detailed to the user.
And Lion 10.7 has a few hidden files that are hard to locate, and one
of them may have some bearing on the missing space of a HDD.
The items here, mostly for 10.7:

start up disk full, other options:

There are Support articles, you could use Help viewer in the
system, on your computer, to look for results; or use google.
However, avoid the temptation to use a badware such as cleanmymac,
mackeeper, and others that are sources of known trouble to the Mac.
    Good luck & happy computing!

My Icloud storage says I have plenty of space left, but I keep getting a message that says there is not enough storage left. Please help

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Are you sure the message isn't about space on your phone, rather than in iCloud.

  • TS3992 My iPad hasn't backed up to iCloud for 2 weeks so I've connected it to my laptop and it still won't backup and this is AFTER I paid for extra iCloud storage. I'm so frustrated because it keeps saying back-up failed but I don't know why.

My iPad hasn't backed up to iCloud for 2 weeks after repeated attempts even AFTER I paid extra for more iCloud storage. I've connected it to my laptop and it still won't backup. I'm so frustrated because it keeps saying back-up failed but I don't know why. Please help, thanks!

To back up to your computer, right-click on the name of your iPad on the left side of iTunes and click Back Up.  (If running iTunes 11, first go to View>Show Sidebar.)
To get your iPad to back up to iCloud again, try deleting your last backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on again.  If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.
If it still won't back up you may have network issues connecting to the iCloud server.  Solutions to that include power-cycling your wireless router (unplugging it for 15 seconds, then plugging it back in), resetting network settings on your phone (in Settings>General>Reset), updating the firmware on your router, and changing the router's DNS settings to use Google's public DNS (see https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using).

I ran disc cleanup and got the message 'your startup disc is almost full' yet if I check Get Info for the drive I have...used = 48 GB, free = 101GB !!!
Any idea why I'm being told it's almost full.
PS: I have backup of two (2) 320GB LeCie external HDs

I don't know why it is saying that, but that utility is not really doing anything for you. All it does is is erase the bits that the OS has already declared "free."

  • In my Macbook Pro finder folder under All Images, there are duplicate files, but one is small and the other is full size. I wanted to clean up the files, but don't know why I have two of everything. Any Ideas?

In my Macbook Pro, the Finder folder has duplicate images in the 'all images' file. One image is small and the other is full size. First question is why do I have two of every image? Why is one small and the other large. Do I need two of everything? If not, which do I delete?
    thanks, Jean

    Hello fane,
    Re: duplicate images in finder.
Nearly all images are JPG with a few GIF and PNG sprinkled in.
I opened the inspector so I do get info when opening each image, but it a slow process.
It seems that one image is around 70k while its twin can be up to 4Mb which is what comes unedited from my camera. Sometimes there will be 3 or 4 identical images in finder, but when I open iPhoto to see what ‘s really in the file, I find only one image, and it’s full sized.
Are all these extra images, even if they are aliases, taking up space on my drive? And should I delete them? The info bar says I have over 10,000 images, which is rather a lot  for what I do.
I am unable to add the file size on the view menu as it is grayed out. Don’t know why it’s gray, but having that info on the screen would save a lot of time and fiddling with each image.
I am trying to resize selected pix so I can upload them to e-bay, which requires less than 70k. I have looked at resizing programs but most are for PC platform and not Mac, so I am trying to resize in the finder window under tools. Tedious at best. Any suggestions will be appreciated
    Thanks for your help,
