My Illustrator CC show Dxf files as Text files...

My Illustrator CC identify my dxf files as text files...
even they are valid dxf files as Acrobat or Rhino are able to open them...
Any hints ?

It's generated as an export by a tierce Application...I'm trying to get from the editor to which version their Dxf is supposed to be compliant.

I am trying to place or even open an AutoCad .DXF file in Illustrator and keep getting a window asking for text import options. I have read several forums and files about importing .DXF files in Illustrator and it seems that it shouldn't be that hard. What am I missing?

I'm trying to share to Media Browser a 20 minute still slide show with music and text. I have tried several times to save at 1080 HD, but just before it's finished, a message box pops up saying "File already open with write permission." What's this mean?

I'd like to finalize it 1080 hd and have tried several times, but just before it's finished, a message box pops up saying it can't be done because "File already open with with write permission." What does this mean? All files are closed; this iMovie project is the only thing open. Does it mean one of the song files from iTunes? And should I just settle for saving it as a "large" file, which is what I'm trying right now?

How can I export an Adobe illustrator CC .AI file to a DWG or DXF file, without SolidWorks enlarging the file & converting every curve into hundreds of short little straight lines rather than a single continuous line/s.
I have made sure the file is ungrouped or has any compound paths or colours.
Opening it in Autocad 2010 still converts the DWG file into hundreds of short little straight lines!
The file is needed to laser cut out an aluminium shape using SolidWorks 2008 (Metal soft)?
Formats they can handle are:
DWG, DXF, IGES, IGA
There must be a way to export it without re-drawing the whole design in Soildworks again!!??

Not really. This is a limitation you will have to live with. Unless you are extremely careful, most paths will be converted to polyline segments by AI and in particular in AI CC this is somehow busted, so it happens more often. You might have much more luck opening a native AI file in DraftSight or a 2D CAD program like TurboCAD and exporting a DWG or 2D IGES/ STEP file from there. The sizing issue is a different matter, but without knowing what units you actualyl used, nobody can advise.

Downloads dragged and dropped from Firefox download window into Outlook e-mail show as file location text.

I have a user who normally can drag files from Firefox's Download window into an e-mail in Outlook and it creates an attachment of that file in the e-mail. However, lately, the dragged .pdf or whatever file only shows up as a text file location like:
\\file:%Downloads%\randomfile.pdf
It's not a link either, it's just the text.
I've tried doing a repair of Outlook.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 19.
I've tested dragging items from the desktop to the e-mail and it works fine.
I can't drag and drop from the Downloads window to the desktop.
I just wanted to add this user is using Windows XP Pro.

I can confirm that this is an issue with the newest release of Firefox. I just upgraded my Firefox, which was previously 18.02 to 19.0 and now I'm getting the same error. It's a bug.

I want to add a download action for dxf files so they open in Autodesk trueview. The steps described here (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing%20file%20types#w_adding-download-actions) say to click on a link for the filetype you want to add an action to but firefox thinks the dxf is a text file and just opens it in a new tab with no download action dialog box.

Use the right-click context menu and choose "Save Link As" or hold down the alt key and left-click the link.

Fresh Install, Now Illustrator won't open any DWG/DXF files???

Hey whats up guys, been having alot of issued with Illustrator (CS2) lately so I did a fresh reinstall.
Everything seemed to be in working order until I tried to open a 2000 DXF file and got the "Unknown format and cannot be opened" dialog.
I was sure that the CAD must be a 2004 or something so I expoted again and got the same issue. Then I looked a bit further and noticed that the File > Open menu doesn't even have an option for DXF/DWG.
What could've caused this feature to get stripped out of a new install? Is there any way to fix this?

What's up guys, quick update on the situation.
After some more tinkering around I discovered that Illustrator couldn't even print any documents, as well as discovering some additional errors with the updates and Adobe Bridge.
So somewhere along the line my "Adobe Suite" got all screwed up, I was even starting to get random error messages in Photoshop.
In the end my solution was to uninstall Illustrator & Photoshop, then reinstall them both (PS first.)
That seemed to reinstall a few Shared componenets (like Bridge) which got everything up and running again...glad it worked, but go figure.

1. Open a DXF file that contain multiple layers in Illustrator CC 17.0.0
2. Uncheck the "Merge Layers" button.
3. Click OK.
Results: It has merge all the layers into one layer.
Expected results: It should open with multiple layers preserved. Illustrator CS6 works properly.

Why does Illustrator CC2014 write temporary files instead of updating existing file?

Illustrator CC 2014 (Win) keeps saving temporary files rather than overwriting an existing file. This results in illustrations not showing as updated in InDesign. The only way round it is to use the Save As command — and that doesn't always work! Also, upon closing a window tab, it frequently changes text in the illustration to default Myriad Pro, without any input from me. I have to undo text changes to make it revert to the intended font.
I've worked with every version of Illustrator since version 5.0 and this is the first time I've experienced such an apparent glitch. Any ideas why this should be happening top me?

As explained before, when closing a tab, an open *.eps file suddenly acquires the changed asterisk, and when I go that tab it says under Edit "Undo Type Style". Yet, I can't see any change, even when I toggle between "Undo" and "Redo". also, under "Find Font", I can't find any other font other than the branded Interstate font, even though the current font selection window shows Myriad Pro.
So, on to some serious detective work. I remembered back from the old days that *.eps files can be opened (and manipulated!) using Notepad.
I saved the file (Figure 8) which said a change had taken place and compared that file with the original by opening in Notepad, copying and pasting into Word and using the latter's compare function. Obviously there are pages and pages to look through, but then I had a Eureka moment! This was what I found:

I have used the XXXXXX to protect my client's anonymity, but the crossed out coding "/COGQMX" is to be found in the unchanged file, and the COGQMV in the changed file!
Although I have described this as a Eureka moment, I actually don't understand the problem, but I feel I have narrowed it down and Mike is right — it IS a font issue!!

How can i show gif files through reports

I have blob column in a table and i store text with some gif files there ...i made a report for that and i set the property of blob item like ..file format as "text" and containes html tags "yes" then i generate the report on html but when i see the on html i can see only text not any picture like .gif file ..
if any body have the solutuion to show .gif files with text then tell me ...

you say, you store text with gif images in a blob. the question would be, in what format. if you store HTML text there, the images are actually not stored in the document but only references to them. you might then check the src attributes of your IMG tags if they point to valid destinations.

There is one way its getting fixed. Once I update my Adobe Illustrator CC to Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 it is further allowing me to go into the system folder and allocate the font to the file so that it can replace it. My only concern now is that our MAC partners who will receive these files back from us have Adobe CS6. We will down save it to CS6 but I hope they won't experience any font issues because of us using CC 2014? Any light you can shed on this?

Reduce File size on CAD DXF file opened in AI

CS3, Windows XP.
I get DXF CAD files from our Engineering Department. I open them in AI and save them as AI files. Then I place them in InDesign. Then I export a PDF for uploading to my website.
The problem is that every seam in the CAD drawing is 5 or 6 lines. Every screw head is shown. This makes for a large PDF file. There are several drawings in each manual so the PDF is sometimes over 20 meg. It also takes a while for the image to draw as you go from page to page.
Is there anyway (short of spending hours removing lines and screwheads in AI) to simplify the drawings from CAD? Does CS4 have any capabilities in this area?

If you have multiple identical (or, more likely, nearly identical) paths overlapping, you can probably eliminate that part of the problem with the export settings in the CAD program (which you don't specify). Look for settings to not include hidden lines (assuming you are exporting from flattend 3D models).
Most CAD programs have a collection of export options, and there are multiple "flavors" of DXF. Someone needs to know what they're doing on each end of the export/import workflow.
After getting a reasonable file into AI, try selecting all (excluding Text) and applying the Simplify command with curve accuracy set to 100%.
Once you get the details ironed out, consider recording an Action to automate the steps that work best. For example, I routinely import DXF files exported from CATIA models and the apply an Action that:
Selects all text objects.
Inverts the selection.
Ungroups.
Removes compound paths.
Simplifies paths.
Applies a uniform stroke weight with rounded end caps and joins.
Selects all.
Scales.
Selects all Text objects.
Sets font, size, and weight.
Deselects.
In a consistent workflow, importing the DXFs and doing most of the optimization (as much as it can be optimized) is pretty much a few clicks affair. Dealing with CAD files when you cannot control the export end (as when receiving them from multiple different vendors and softwares) is always a bit of a chore because of the variables.
