My iMac 24" freezes on startup and then works
Hi! My iMac has a startup problem: It freezes on startup around 5-10min and then works again. Sometime the desktop is loaded and sometime it only shows the blue screen. I can move the mouse cursor but the click doesn't work. I backup files with the time machine and reinstall the OS but the problem still exists. I run AHT (extend) and the result is OK, no Hardware problem. Anyone knows how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance. TW
More issues since I last posted:
It's running, very poorly, but am trying to upload an MP3 to soundcloud.com and the upload keeps freezing. It's nothing to do with my Internet connection either.
Quite honestly I think my iMac is on its last legs
I really need this running as smoothly as quickly as possible as my partner has recently been made redundant and needs the mac so she can look for jobs. This is very inconvenient :/

IMac 2007 freezes after sleep and then can't find hard drive after reboot.
I'm having a problem where my mid 2007 iMac (2.4 GHz core duo w/ 6 Gb of ram) freezes after sleep. It seems to happen only when an application was open at the time of sleep. The freeze manifests as the cursor turns into the spinning wheel, but the computer can't do anything. Command-option escape doesn't work. Most of the time after I reboot, the iMac can't find the hard drive. If I leave the computer off for 15 minutes then it will reboot ok. Is my hard drive going out or do I have another problem? I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.5. I've repaired permissions, verified the hard drive and reset the NVram but I still have the problem.
Here is the console right before the time of the crash.

How can I stream videos that come into my imac directly to my AppleTV and then my TV
how can I stream videos that come into my imac directly to my AppleTV and then my TV?
Or... you can just use a 3rd party solution.
Best solution for streaming audio and video to your Apple TV from an Mac or Windows PC... without using iTunes... is Airparrot. You can screen share your Mac to your Apple TV. It even lets you select your overscan/underscan and video quality.
Download it and install. It shows up in your system tray. As long as you are on the same network as your Apple TV, just right click the Airparrot icon and select Apple TV as your Airplay device.
http://airparrot.com
Then hook up your wireless keyboard and mouse and plop on the couch for some supersized web browsing.
It's 20 minute sessions for the free version, $9.99 for full and can gift to someone for $4.99 if you buy for yourself. -

Is anyone familiar with this problem/error message?it means that it is not a hardware issue. Other then that, Im not too sure. Sorry I can't help you any further, but Im sure others members of this forum will read your question and be able to help you. Good luck

On my itouch 4th gen, I use imessage and message many people, but sometimes when i send a message the send bar on top will go almost all the way and stop. This will happen for some time and then work later. is there anything to avoid the freezing problem while it sends
See:

However, I suspect it is just a tempery network problem beyond your control -
My camera Canon G3 (i know it's old) no longer connects to iPhoto (8.1.2) on my iMac, I have checked with my friends iMac same model iPhoto version and it works fine using my cable, I would appreciate any help getting this sorted
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -
Bug Report for files first opened in Bridge and then worked in Photoshop
I encountered a problem with files first opened in Bridge and then worked in Photoshop as follows:
1. I opened a raw file in Bridge and then after corrections sent to Photoshop with no problem, however, after correcting and saving the file I then went back to the option of closing file and going to bridge. It closes file and stays in Photoshop. In order to get back to bridge I must either click on the bridge logo at bottom of screen or request to go to bridge.
2. I tested the same thing in CS-5 and it works like it is suppose to you click on close and go to bridge and it immediately takes you back to bridge.
3. Unless this is a new feature or suppose to work this way then it is a bug.
NancyZHi Curt
Yes, I am talking about opening a file in bridge doing necessary corrections etc and then sending on to Photoshop. Once I do necessary corretions and save in Photoshop my next step would be to select close and open in bridge which is a choice. In previous Photoshops that I have used (CS4 and CS5) when you did this it would close the file and then immediately take you back to bridge. Now under CS6 if you select close and go to bridge it closes the file but remains in Photoshop. If bridge is not a choice when you select close and open in bridge why even have that as a choice? Why not just select close and then click on bridge logo or Control Alt O or select go to bridge?

My iMac keeps freezing on startup
For about two weeks my iMac which I only bought in October of last year keeps freezing on startup after I sign in. I have tried the cmd-alt-p-r about 4 times. It works for about two days and then starts freezing again. I need assistance please.
Go step by step and test.

Cannot boot iMac G5. Freezes on startup.
Hi! I'm having a huge problem with my iMac G5 powerPC.
I've bought it secondhand about two years ago. Upon checking the serial code I found out my computer was produced mid- 2005. The previous owner installed a newer OS X version, which I assume was Leopard.
About a week ago my computer started shutting down at random. After startup it would work for about 5 - 15 minutes before losing power again. It wouldn't feel hot and I could power it up again right away.
This went on for about two days, and now I'm completely stuck. When I press the powerbutton now, it usually freezes at the white Apple logo with the spinning gear underneath it. Unlike the many posts I've read about this, my spinning gear doesn't freeze, but just keeps on spinning forever... The longest I've let it sit like that is for about an hour. However, sometimes it passes this stage and freezes on a blue screen with the cursor in the left top-corner.
I've started it in single-user mode and used fsck. It made a lot of noise and displayed "***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****", but right after that it shuts down again... I've tried this three times now.
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM didn't fix it. Resetting open firmware didn't fix it.
It won't start in safe mode either.
I doubt it's the powersupply, since it can run for hours if I don't touch it, and I've tried multiple outlets.
I've heard of reinstalling OS X while keeping my data, but I suppose that's impossible for me for I didn't get an install disk when I bought it.
I'm at loss! Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Could be a bad harddrive. Replaceable. or get an external drive.
There have been a lot of hardware problem with early iMag G5's. Capacitor problems. Power supply.
You may be able to get a restore cd from apple. ask for leopard.
10.4 & 10.5 available from Apple by calling 800-767-2775 on January 20, 2013.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4720126?tstart=0
I'd start by getting a dvd from apple.
You need an external Firewire drive to boot a PowerPC Mac computer.
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.
Has everything interface:
FireWire 800/400 + USB2, + eSATA 'Quad Interface'
save a little money interface:
FireWire 400 + USB 2.0
This web page lists both external harddrive types. You may need to scroll to the right to see both.

Since installing Yosemite my iMac frequently freezes, particularly when I have multiple windows open/apps running. I've never had this problem before. All my apps are installed on a solid-state drive and all documents, etc. on a separate drive, so I'm accustomed to fast performance. Most problems seem to occur with Microsoft Office (Word and Entourage) and Safari, but that's what I use most heavily, so no surprise. I have always been able to keep a lot of apps/windows open on desktop without performance problems, until now. Yosemite is leaving me stranded. (I upgraded to Yosemite because a couple of the newest apps I use on my two Macs and iPhone require Yosemite.) Any advice?
When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Macbook Air Mid 2013 - Keys freeze up now and then
Hey there, I'm getting a little bit paranoid as I'm wondering if I have a key logger here on my Mavericks installation (10.9.5) on this macbook air; but every now
and then when I'm in Outlook or some Chat client working away - suddenly - some keys stop working ! Like the Delete key does not remove previously typed
letters, or the Letter "A" stops working, then -- after 30 seconds or so it comes back!?
Do other people experience sudden keyboard freezes like this? trackpad works fine.. It's a Mid 2013 with i7 1.7GHz and 8GB of RAM.. so it has no performance
issues, as it runs outlook and some office apps. I patched up Office to the latest version too.
So very weird, my next step is Yosemite and crossing my fingers or the apple store?
cThanks tool, looks great. I will give it a go, i think you are right - it could be some errant IT tool that my company has installed, they have some terrible
Casper suite (which i deactivated), perhaps it's throwing up some Interrupts.. no clue, but Activity Monitor tells me zero.
Thanks again , will be downloading the tool shortly!

IMac keeps freezing - kernel panics and other
My iMac keeps freezing on me. Sometimes I get a notice that my computer experience a kernel panic and upon restart have the option of sending the info to Apple, other times it just feezes and I have to do a hard restart but get no prompts about the improper shutdown. This usually happens when I'm working in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects at the same time.
Am I just overloading the system? And if so, why would it allow me to do that? Shouldn't it just run really slowly or have one application freeze, not the entire system? This hasn't been a problem in the past, it just recently started happening more and more often. Do I need more Ram? That's pretty much the only thing I can upgrade. Here are my system specs, please let me know if you have any suggestions for things I can do to prevent this from happening again. Thank you! Thanks for the replies. Baltwo I'll try running those test and see if they find anything.
Here's a recent Kernel panic log:

IMovie 11 Freezing at startup and file structure
Hi,
I know others have asked about iMovie 11 freezing at startup. I haven't, however, seen much discussion of the event file structure. To solve the freezing startup, I put all the event directories (folders) in a temp folder and brought only the necessary ones back into the iMovie Events folder, checking after each "move" that iMovie would start. I'm not thrilled about this approach, because it seems like iMovie could freeze anytime and I'd be back to square one. Anyway, my question concerns the directory structure of each event folder.
One of my events, Halloween, has three clips *.dv, an iMovie Data file, and three subdirectories: iMovie Movie Cache, iMovie Thumbnails, and iMovie Waveforms. iMovie Thumbnails has three clips *.mov and its own iMovie Movie Cache directory. The two iMovie Movie Cache directories seem to have the same content.
This doesn't make sense to me. Why two iMovie Movie Cache directories with the same content? What can I safely delete if iMovie starts freezing.
Thanks!
BruceThank you. What about the iMovie Data file, can I delete that, too? Also, do you know why iMovie Thumbnails has its own copy of iMovie Movie Cache? Lastly, are these folders (the ones I can delete) the ones that seem to confuse iMovie 11 and freeze it upon startup? I went to an Apple store, but the "genius" had a limited knowledge of iMovie 11. Where does one find out about these things!
Thanks again,

Why would OSX suddenly startup and then zoom in without any keystroke?
Hi all,
all of a sudden following happens when I boot my mac mini. The desktop shows up normally and then after 1 second it zooms in to something like 90% (just so that the top bar vanishes). I can zoom out then and all is fine but I cannot get the mac to change this startup behaviour.
Any help how to change things back to 'normal' would be very much appreciated. Thanks Thomas
Mac Mini Dual Core Mac OS X (10.4.8) 2 GB RamHello Thomas,
Three suggestions: First of all, as soon as you've zoomed out to the correct "unzoomed" appearance of the screen, log out immediately. Then try logging in again. That should fix it if there is a problem with a remembered preference.
If that doesn't resolve the situation, try opening the Universal Access control pane in System Preferences. Click on the Seeing tab, then on the Options… button in the Zoom pane. Make sure the "Minimum zoom" slider is all the way to the left (set to 1).
If that doesn't fix it, then go to ~/Library/Preferences (in your Home folder) and trash the com.apple.universalaccess.plist file. Then log out and back in again.
Keep us posted,
Archie
