My Imac 24" goes black screen after start up. Booting from original CD or CMD R don't work, both go black screen

So, yesterday while playing a game of league of legends my Mac stopped running. After I resetted it, I got black screen after it the chime + loading bal.
So far I've tried:
CMD+R => black screen
Holding shift => black screen
Holding Alt => chosing the HR, the repair disk, or the original CD to reintsall => black screen
Holding S => got to the terminal, did the check up, it said it was ok, restarted => black screen
Took off the power cable, waiting at least 15 seconds, and everything back on => black screen
Holding Alt Cmd + p + R => black screen after restart
Removed 1 of the memories, then testen, same with the other one => black screen
I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point. Anything I've overlooked?

Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the grey screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time.
Reset NVRAM/PRAM
Try a SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.

  • MacBook Pro mid 2010, gray screen at start up, boot from dvd not working.

    Backstory:
    I was in the process of installing Windows 7 using boot camp, but I was a little bit low on HD space. So, I deleted the user account that had a ton of stuff, and did some other crap that messed up my hard drive. So my computer just won't boot. It shows a gray screen 24/7, going into safe boot/safe boot + verbose doesn't fix the problem. I tried booting from an OSX Leopard dvd, but it won't work when I hold down C, and when I choose the Mac OS X Install DVD option after holding the option key, when I click the arrow button it freezes and doesn't boot. I have Lion installed, and apple says not to boot with an older version of OSX DVD, but there is no Lion DVD.
    What do I do?
    PS: I'm trying to boot using the DVD so I can reformat my hard drive, trying to do so in Recovery HD doesn't work because it says it 'Can't unmount drive'.

    Rockswim,
    did it do that only once, or does it do that every time you restart it?

  • HT4848 My old Mac G5 displays "You need to restart your Mac" + gray screen. Won't boot from any disc, no safe start, did PRAM reset... nothing. HELP!

    My old iMac G5 won't restart no matter what I try. I get "You must restart your mac" plus grey screen. I've reset PRAM, tried safe start, tried booting from original iMac discs.. all no good. This happened when I was deleting files in preparation for trading in at Best Buy. Anybody know what's going on?

    If you are really running a an "old Mac G5", then you have posted in the wrong Forum.. You have posted in the "Intel iMac Forum" by mistake.

    Thank you, I had forgotten about target mode. I was able to back up all of my files. I also copied some additional 50 GB of files of the disk as a stress test and the hard drive worked fine and quick (and because it was quicker than retrieving the same files from a network drive to my desktop).
    I was hoping to also unpack the Applejack files on my desktop and put them back so I could run them in single user mode without running /etc/rc. However I haven't been able to get my Linux desktop to mount the iBook in Read-Write instead of Read-Only yet (I don't have access to another Mac at the moment).

    Hello ROBLAHAY,
    I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue with your MacBook Air. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact configuration you are describing. If you are talking about using two external Thunderbolt displays (in addition to the internal display) with your Mid 2011 MacBook Air 11-inch, you may want to be aware that only a single external Thunderbolt display is supported on that model, as noted in the following article:
    3. How many Apple Thunderbolt Displays can I use with my Mac in OS X?
    The table below indicates how many Thunderbolt displays can be connected to Thunderbolt-capable Mac computers in OS X.

  • Cannot eject the start-up disk from my PowerBook G4 (laptop). Can anyone help me? My screen is blank too, that's why I'm using the start-up disk. MacBook Pro (17-inch 2.4 GHz), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

    MacBook Pro (17-inch 2.4 GHz), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

    Try holding down the trackpad button while starting up the PowerBook.  Holding down mouse button during start up ejects the disc in the optical drive, so I'm guessing it would work the same with the button the the trackpad.

    Sorry you've decided this is a rant but the objective observer would know that  all I want is a solution to at least the 3 issues mentioned. I spent the better part of 2 nights with techs that had me doing all the standard refresh items, i.e. setting the PRAM... and as time goes on my frustration grows. Last week spent days trying to find the driver software Maverick now needs and Apple is supposed to have it and doesn't. So at what point does this become a rant? I've done things the right way had mucho patience thus far and as a kicker, Apple won't let me download Mountain Lion to reinstall and rid my self of Maverick. Tell me, would you complain?

  • G5 Grey screen (Kernel Panic) when booting from CD

    I know there are a lot of posts with people experiencing issues with the grey screen during boot. Most resolutions point to hardware but all state, including Apple's walk through, to boot from CD and run a validation on the hard drive.
    My issue is completely different. I get the grey screen of death when booting from a CD/DVD only. I can boot into the OS just fine from the hard drive. But if I try to install another OS, or just boot from the CD/DVD, I get the grey screen.
    What I've done to troubleshoot:
    Reduced RAM to original sticks
    Removed hard drive
    Replaced DVD drive
    Tried multiple versions of OS discs (10.2, 10.3, 10.4 and 10.4 server)
    Reset the PRAM (Both via keyboard and Open Firmware)
    Replaced the video card
    Replaced the logic board
    Replaced the Processor
    Quite litterally the only thing original in this system is the power supply and the memory. However, I only get it when I'm booting from CD so the memory should not be the issue. I've even used a seperate power supply for the DVD drive to see if it was causing an issue.
    Any suggestions? I'm looking at possibly replacing the power supply but I'm afraid it's going to give me the same issue.

    Thats the thing, I've tried 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, and 10.4 server. (CD and DVD) All give me the grey screen. Well 10.2 and 10.3 give me a dark grey square in the middle where the apple should be but then the fans ramp up like it does when you get the grey screen of death.
    I've also used two different drives.
    It reads the disks fine with no issues. If I boot to the hard drive I can use the system like nothing is wrong. But if I want to boot from CD for any reason I cannot.
    If I follow the logic it seems it is something to do with the CD/DVD drive. This is because it works fine when booted to hard drive. If it was the memory or PSU then I'd be getting the problem all of the time and not just when booting from CD/DVD.

    After upgrading to iOs 5.1 the AV composite cable don't work, appear a message: the device is not compatible with iPad2, anyone else had this problem or have a solution for it?

    Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo. It is safe to do, there should be no content loss. It is the same as rebooting your computer.
    If that does not work, restore the iPad to the factory settings.
