My iMac 24 is burning my eyes..

bonjourno,
generally pleased with new mac. but my eyes are really killing me. i figured out the brightness controls, but is there anyway to change the background colours in the applications ? i´m probably slow, but is it possible to change the background colours or is it going to be like watching a flourescent tube in the evening ?
thanks, y'all.
iMac 24 / 2.33 Ghz / 2GB 667 MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi Gweisi
Welcome to discussions
Have you had your eyesight checked lately? - most important for all regular computer users
The screen is designed to be used in normal room lighting that you would expect in a modern office, with modern bright screens if you do use them in poor light it will hurt your eyesight as will watching a modern LCD / Plasma TV.
I have a 20" Intel and my eyes are about 800mm from the screen with a 24" I would need to be further away still to have a comfortable focus on the whole screen. For small stuff I use the mouse Zoom.
Unless the application has a preference for background color changes that is what you get.

  • What is the amount of DVDs that an iMac DVD Burner can burn? (or MTBF)

What is the amount of DVDs that an iMac DVD Burner can burn (DVD burner life time)? (or MTBF)

Your question sounds a bit like you want to use the Superdrive professionally? Personally, I would not depend on a vertically installed, super slim Drive where any media can easily shift by 1/100th of an inch. I've noticed that mine definitely needs to "rest" and cool off after about 3 DVDs. I purchased an external burner quite a few years ago (when I had an iMac without a Superdrive) and I still prefer to use it - it is sturdy, can read all sorts of media, and is reliable whereas the SuperDrive is known to be extremely finicky especially about the media they will read or write to.
So, I don't have a specific answer for you, but I wouldn't rely on it.

  • Can the latest i3 imac's burn more than 4.7 dvds?

Looking to find out if they can or do they need toast or a custom external dvd burner that does larger storage dvds. Thanks

    photohead,
You're iMac will burn dual-layer 8.4 Gig dvds.

  • IMac DVD Burner only burns on Apple Brand blank DVDs

    Hello,
I have an iMac G4 Dome and just last week it stopped burning DVDs on any brand outside of Apple Blank DVDs. The CD burner works fine, it's just the DVD burner. Can anybody help?

maybe you just accidentally bought your first batch of DVD+R.
The burner in that machine can only burn DVD-R
THis is confusing to a lot of people. We're all so used to seeing CD-R, that we just assume DVD-R has a similar meaning.
The breakdown is something like this.
CD-R = Compact Disc (dash) Recordable
    DVD-R = DVD minus Recordable
    DVD+R= DVD plus Recordable.
I know it's dopey, but that's probably what's happening. The early superdrive, though actually ABLE TO DO IT, has the firmware blocking any DVD+R media, largely because Apple knew that +R media will not play in a lot of consumer decks, and didn't want to field the questions and irate calls (i.e. My iMovie and iDVD project wont play in my cousin's DVD player??!!!_
Anyhow, i suspect you just bought your first DVD+R media, and it just wont work.

  • IMac 27" Burn in Artifacts on Monitor

My iMac has what I'm calling some "burn-in artifacts" that appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen.  They look like dirt or smudges that never go away.  Another user posted about it some time ago:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2303433
My warranty is expired and I was wondering if anyone knows if this was part of a recall at all with the 2009 27" iMac models.  I'd like to have this problem fixed as it seems to be getting worse, but don't want to have to spend too much to get it done.
    Any tips are appreciated.

If it is what Apple calls image persistence, here is some info:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2807
If it is persistent or something else, I'd suggest making an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar for an evaluation and diagnosis. You can then decide if a repair (and the cost) are worthwhile.

  • Imac superdrive burn fix

recently i could not burn a cd via the finder i go the error "lazer could not calibrate" along with other errors.
going to system prefs choosing international i selected any language and dragged it to the top then dragged english back to the top and restarted. now it works.
make sure order for sorted lists is english and word break is english united states, computer
hopefully this works for you all as well

    hi ches owen et al,
i had the same problem, took my iMac to an autorized Apple Store and guess what happened - they wanted to replace the super drive. Not enough they were not able to tell me with what brand/drive Apple intended to replace the defective one :roflol: - i asked if they could put in a drive of my choice (thinking of either a plextor or pioneer slot in drive) and they told me that i would loose warrenty and the care support plan if they did - mega- :roflol: as well as they could not predict if either of theese drives would work correctly super mega :roflol:.
Your fix worked for me as well but i wonder if Apple is
    1. aware of that problem
    2. if they intend to fix it in their bi-monthly OSX updates once and 4ever - with any languages and list sort order choosen.
againa thx for that trick/fix and cheers - ahab666

  • Imac g5 - burned power inverter?

I have one of those so called troubled Imacs with a video issue.  Video eventually went to an intense plaid like pattern but compter itself ran great. I inspected all capacitors, even the ones in the power supply and they all look perfect. I took the power inverter that feeds power to the monitor and flipped it over and saw a small area of the circuit board discolored and burned. Its where a series of 6 black wires plug into the board. I have pictures to show (see links). Any suggestions here would be great as it is an older mac and I dont want to be spending additional money at guessing the problem.

Do mac techs reply to these forums?
No. We are all just fellow Mac users who volunteer their assistance here.
13 views and not a peep!!!
None of them, including me, knows the answer, but it would seem that you need a new mother board.
Better still, a newer Mac, as that would cost you about 75% of the price of a new Mac.

  • IMac get burn when switch on the power

On 21 Oct 2007, in the shinning morning I switch on the power point at my iMac, there is smoke emitting from iMac.
Is thanks to God where I notices the burning smell and switch on the main power port immediately.
On 24 Oct 2007, I report this to local Apple and when the staff switch on the power, its encounter the same problem where the burning inside iMac cause smoke emitting.
For me, this is the basic right for me as consumer to have the Safe Product to use.
IF today is my Son switch on the power, I can't imagine what going to happen to my son.
So, local Apple retailer told me my MBL no functioning. But, my interest is how can the iMac can get burn.
Would like to know whether anyone encounter on this.

Hi, I brought my Apple iMac on Aug 2006 and after 14 months use, its get burn.
So, I already past my warranty period and if I wish to fix my Apple, I need to pay around USD1000 for replace Main Logic Board.
Hence, I'm not lucky enough like you think.
Never come in my mind, I have so low quality of APPLE Product.
If today the Main Logic Board is not working and didn't cause any burning. I believe I will happy to accept the fate that I can't expect long life product.
But, now is get burning I feel that the issue is not only replace Main Logic Board.
If today is my son switch on the power, I can't imagine what going to happen against my son and my whole Apartment.
    Do you agree with me?

  • Is there a fix for my imac monitor burning highlights into blue shapes on my screen?

Whenever I leave an image or window open on my imac for longer than 5 minutes the white boxes or white in the images burn a blue shape onto my screen.  It is apparent in every program and finder, but overly so in photoshop.  Is there a fix for this or do I need to take my computer in?  I've tried changing my display settings to AdobeRGB 1998 and turning down the brightness but neither fixed it.

Image persistence on LCDs is not permanent like screen burn on CRTs.
Have a look at > Avoiding image persistence on Apple LCD displays
Personally I use a Hot Corner to Sleep my displays when I get up or when I'm not looking something. I also have the Display Sleep timer set to 10 minutes, just in case I get up and forget to use the Hot Corner.

  • Help! iMac screen hurts my eyes!

Just upgrade from my macbook pro laptop to a 27" iMac. I love it but after even a few minutes of using it, my eyes begin to hurt. And when I look away from the computer, my vision is a little blurry. My eyes have been fatigued for a few days now because of this. I have perfect vision and never had trouble looking at computer screens before. I've tried adjusting the brightness, the display settings, changing the lighting in my office, everything!
Can anyone recommend a good solution for me? Maybe an aftermarket glare protector?
    Thanks!
    Fred

    Hello Fred
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Before you buy plastic film or something to stick over your Display, there a are a couple of other free things that you should try first.
    1. Shades > http://www.charcoaldesign.co.uk/shades
+Shades is also great if your working in a dimly lit room.+
    2. Selecting and/or Calibrating a darker Display Profile.

  • My Intel iMac is burning (literally) after Leopard Install

    HELP!!!
I smell a strange burning smell coming out of the bottom of my Intel iMac! I've only been exploring the new features in Leopard for about an hour when I've begun to smell something like plastic burning.
Anyone hear of this? I'm scared.

Your computer is too old to run Lion, and therefore you will not be able to sync with iCloud. I think you can still use your email though from SL, but you would need to transfer your MM account to iCloud.
You won't be able to sync calenders or contacts through iCloud with SL, but you can view everything through a web browser.
If the syncing is not a big deal for you between Apple devices, then I don't think you have a lot to worry about.
If you do, I was in the same boat and bought a used iMac with a Intel Core 2 Duo processor and sold my old one. Didn't cost that much to be honest, and I am able to run Lion on the new (used) iMac. If you buy used, make sure the seller has the box and original install CD's and packaging. You can always meet the seller in an Apple Store if local to have it checked out.

  • How come my 16:9 iDVD 06 project plays as 4x3 on iMac when burned?

    Hi.
Warning: This is a question from a newbie.
I recorded a digital TV show with EyeTVTV and made a DVD out of it using iDVD 06. The show was 16:9. The iDVD project was 16:9. Everything was fine when I previewed the project in iDVD (both menus and show were 16:9 - looked cool). I then burned it to a DVD using iDVD which about 2 years. When I put the burned DVD into my iMac, I get 16:9 menus but the show itself is 4x3 with long faces and black bars on the sides of the screen.
Any ideas what I did wrong?
    Thanks,
    Adnan

    Hi Ian Parkinson and drogersgolf.
I have the exact same problem, but changing the aspect ratio of the TV to 4:3 doesn't help! The video is still cropped on both sides.
I hope someone can help to prevent this problem from occurring in iDVD!
    Thank you in advance!

  • 1 yr old imac Ghosting / Burned Screen

i bought the newest model of the imac when i came out mid 2011, the first week it came out. Well now im about a mo out of the 1 year warrenty and yesterday my screen was fine.
Tonight i notice a huge ghosting/ burned area from when i opened itunes lastnight to watch a movie on my apple tv, the ghost immage is right where the itunes window was, the ghosting is all of the shadow area where the window was, about 50% of it.
how can you get ghosting from 1 day? one would assume if its going to happen, it would be the menu bar which is always up, always in the same spot but this is super distracting as im a heavy photoshop user.
any options / help / this happened to you?

hmmm... I see that grey after image. Dissapointing.
What I believe you may have is a condition that sometimes happens with LCD screens. I firmly believe you have stuck pixels on your monitor and that I may have a solution for you.
    http://www.flexcode.org/lcd2.html
This Application (java based) rapidly changes your LCDs resolution and colours. This can bring back some of the the monitors suffering from this issue. You may need to run it it overnight to get your pixels unstuck.
Give it a shot! It's free. I have tried this program for a simular issue with a green ghosting on a 2010 model iMac
    and the problem was solved.
DO NOT WATCH THE SCREEN! It'll make you sick... for those suffering from epilepsy, get someone else to run it for you!!
Let the program run on it's own.

  • New iMac~iMovie burning

Just bought a brand new 27" all n One iMac. iMovie DVD burning? I made the movie and burned to disc and it won't play on my home TV? what do I do? I used DVD -R, DVD +R and a CD they all show disc error on my tv. It can be viewed via internet only. I need to see it on TV's. I make movies fro family and friends to watch on their tv's and I also make movies for people who have passed to play at the funeral. I am so disappointed that iMovie has changed so much and there is no longer iDVD.

If you have iDVD on your iMac you can burn movies you created in iMovie 10 to DVD:
In iMovie 10 go to File>Share>File, choose the size (probably should choose either SD or Large) then click Next, give it a name, then click Save (remember where you saved it to).
Wait until the Activity Indicator shows that the sharing process is complete.
Go to iDVD. Go to File>Import>Video and select the file you created earlier. It will bring the video into your iDVD project. Prepare your DVD project and when you're ready, click the "Burn" button.
iDVD is no longer officially supported by Apple, but it still works great.
