Safari freezing means that you may be searching sites with old codings.Try those site on opera or firefox.
UPdate your computer if necessary.
Heavy image site too freeze safari.

  • My iMac WiFi is extremely slow!!! Help me fix

I have tried so many things to get my WiFi to run faster than what it is now, It's physically making me impatient. I have done a internet speedtest from the mac and the results are -
    Ping - 51ms
    Download speed - 0.09mbps
    Upload speed - 0.49mbps
I even made a youtube video on what is actually happening.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjd5k817hn4
What I don't understand is, Why is my macs WiFi so terrible? It's fully connected to the internet.
I have updated the mac and it didn't seem to change in its perfomance.
The iMac is new and it runs everything nice, just the internet is slow as anything.
Now, Let me compare the results to my pc.
    Ping - 50ms
    Download speed - 3.66 mb/s
    Upload speed - 0.778 mb/s
    And now my ipad -
    Download speed 3.21 mb/s
    Upload speed 0.686 mb/s
All these tests were done when there was only ONE device connected to the internet.
Please, Help me fix my problem! I can't even load apples website without waiting 20 minutes!

I spoke to apple yesterday and they run me through a few simple steps.
First I removed all my cables which powers my iMac and I then left the cables unplugged for 15 seconds, After the 15 seconds I reconnected the cables and waited 5 seconds before switch on.
Now, I was instructed to press the following keys.
    cmd , alt , R , P
I hold those keys as my mac switches on and you have to keep hold of them until you hear the macs power up sounds twice. Once you hear it twice, let go of the keys you held down whilst you turned on your iMac. I then got told to skip the options what were given to me in the start of turning on the mac, Kind of like factory settings.
I was then told to change my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and save.
Once the DNS was changed I had no improvement in my internet speed what so ever. Now, I was then told to make a test account (login) which had no programs installed the the login. No change again...
The problem is NOT the iMac, It's the router. Because of my router being old'sh and so on, My mac isn't getting the right internet speeds because the firmwire is not up to date with the iMac.
As I spoke to my internet provider Orange or EE (whatever they call themselves now) They said lots of mac and apple users always seem to have problems with old routers. So they're sending me a new one.
My garunteed fix is for the new internet modem to make my connection problems go away.
So guys, if anyone is having the same problem as me, Ring your internet provider BEFORE you ring apple. It will save you time as you have to wait a few days for apple to ring your mobile/phone.
    Thank you!
    Stan

  • After update my imac to yosemite automatically power off ifself.pls help

hi friends , I updated my imac (24-inch,Early 2009) to yosemite and update was ok.after update i restart imac  then it is booting and showing apple log and coming to password page then automatically power off ifself. if i start with safe mode it is working fine. can everyone help me.

    Hi.
You are running into a problem that many users of the 24-inch, early 2009 iMac 9,1's have encountered (including me).  The Sudden Shutdown Syndrome is the scourge of many iMacs and Mac Book Pros.
Unfortunately, I believe that the only solution is for Apple/nVidia to revisit their geForce Tesla drivers and figure out if the power management is correct.
In your case, I'd try this:
    1)  Boot up your computer in safe mode and log into your user account.
    2)  In the Finder menu, select Go > Go to Folder...
    3)  Type: " ~/Library/Caches" (without quotes) into the box and press return.  You will be taken to the Caches folder.
    4)   Select all the files in the folder and move to the trash (do not trash the folder itself).  At this point, just leave them in the trash...don't erase them.
    5)  Go back to the Finder menu, select Go > Go to Folder...
    6)  Type: "/Library/Caches" (without quotes) into the box and press return.
    7)  Do the same thing you did in 4)  This time, though, you will be asked for an administrator's password.
    8)  Restart your computer in normal mode and attempt login.
    9)  If you can log to the desktop, you may delete your trash.
Hopefully this will get you into your account.  If it doesn't, you may have to do a clean install of Yosemite, go back to Mavericks, or wait for an update.
    Good luck!

This is a common problem when installing Windows on a Mac.
AFAIA, you'll need to i nstall W7 specific audio drivers on the W7 partition.
However you may be better asking this question on an Apple forum.
    Cheers,

Also while you are at trying to fine a answer, this mac has a camera and other things, how do i test everything to see if they work on both sides.

I tried searching through the other questions here is a question if answer well help answer the first?
How do I figure out what is my sound driver is called?  I think Windows calls it High Definition Audio Device however something about the windows is mistaken because I have no sound.  But when on the mac side I do not know where to look either.   If I can find out what the sound driver is called then I can fined a update download.  The other similar questions that were answered suggested that the sound driver needed updated.

The power adaptor will always get a little warm or even hot during use.
How hot did it get? Was it smoking, melting, or discoloring?
If not, then that little bit of heat is usual and you shouldn't worry about it too much.
    Hope this helps,

    Now i Have MacOs, Win7 32bit, Win7 64 bit.
Before installation WIn7 64bit, in Win7 32bit my Imac was working in common mode(Internet\Video) without propeller noise. But now, i have noise after 10-15 minutes Video or Browser using.
In Win7 64bit i had more propeller noise and after 10-15 minutes play computer game, i have lags and troubles with performance!! My propeller's are spinning with maximal velocity(after 10-15 minutes). Therethore i cant play games\watch Video in my Win7 64 bit. I think that i must be install someone drivers?? I have BootCamp 4.0 under my Win7 64 bit.
In Win7 32 bit, i dont have problems with perfomance, but noise is really stronger than was early.
    Please, Help me!
    Sorry for my bad English.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee

  • 21.5" iMac and heat.

So i made a purchase a 21.5" iMac the model from 2010 and Im very pleased with what i got for my money but i have one concern, Im a bit of a person that if something is a bit strange i start to wonder about something breaking or stuff like that.
So i went ahead and as most people suggested to download iStat Pro and i did and my son was playing some games and i noticed when i checked iStat that the machine was hot at least i though it was hot because i don't really have knolage about the optimal temps and the max that hardware can withstand at that constant temp. So after that i went on the Apple Support Forums and i did a in-depth search about the heat regarding the 21.5" iMacs.
But some of them did not help. I will post my temps from iStat below all listed in Celsius.
    HD: 54
    CPU: 56
    Ambient: 23
    GPU: 65-71
    Mem Controller: Around 50+ something.
    Optical drive: 39
    Power Supply 2: 65.
So those are the temps and if someone can give me some tips and such on how to cool down a bit my machine because i love this iMac and i don't want to shorten its lifespan because of the heat.
    Any information is well appreciated.
Thanks in advice and i will keep you up to date.

    Hi,
we have about nine iMacs in our office and experienced a lot of freezes and graphic glitches with them, when they hit the two year mark. Qualified repair shops could not find the issue. I then installed smcFan Control on our machines and found the hard drive temperatures in older machines to run at very concerning levels (50-55C) in idle state. In comparison a brand new iMac runs it's hard drive at 33C. During intensive tasks I saw temperatures of up to 68C. Seagate does not recommend operating temperatures of more than 60C, Wester Digital 55C.
You could hand your iMac in to repair and have it cleaned internally - dust may build up internally, increasing operating temperatures. Also, do not place it anywhere near a window where it can catch sunlight. U can use smcFan Control to increase fan speed to keep your drives below 45C, but it will help you only so far..
The way I see it, an iMac is not designed for CPU/GPU intensive tasks or won't last very long if used intensively. Mac Pros turn out to be much more durable (no surprises here) and run easily for 7-10 years. We did replace some of the Pros with iMacs and it seems you need to take special precautions to get a good run out of them.

  • Late 2010 iMac Running Sluggish and Loud-PLS HELP

I have only found one or two threads relating to my specific problem, and I still need more help. Anyone's help (...Linc Davis) would be very much appreciated.
First off, let me tell you what I am running.
Late 2010 model iMac (3.2 GHz intel core). OSX Snow Lion 10.6.8. 4GB Ram.  1TB hard drive (less than half full)
Here is where I have isolated the problem so far.
-Switching between applications is often very sluggish and laggy. It takes up to 10 seconds sometimes to open an appplication.
-Playing audio files with either itunes or preview. Quite often a song will stall for up to 5 or more seconds before playing again
-NOTE occasionally the audio actually cut out for five seconds and then start again later on in the song as opposed to simply stalling.
-Typing in search bars, this action is often sluggish and laggy as well.
-Clicking on icons and links. Example, at the start up window when I clicked on my user account it took about three seconds to bring up the username box
-Fan is working very loudly right from startup, and not slowing down at all.
Here are the solutions I have tried to no avail.
-Ran disk utility, everything came up as ok
-monitered my CPU usage with various problem causing applications. The RAM usage is fine and should be working great, I almost always have more than half freed up RAM
-I replaced the thermal cream around the hard drive because it was over heating a bunch and I also gave it a good clean. This fixed the over heating problem but the laggin still occurs.
    -SMC reset (twice). no change.
I don't know what to do next, somebody please help. Do I have any malware? Is my harddrive failing?
p.s. I'm pretty noob to the intricacies of going deep into computers, but I can follow steps and figure out what's going on easy enough.

Hello, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Another iMac Freezing Issue - pls help a newbie out

I understand this problem is not uncommon - I've been trying to read the many threads I see on the issue. However, most posts outline problems, suggestions are made, but then reported to not work. Also, many threads are 2 years old.
Could someone please suggest a step-by-step troubleshooting solution?
    Here are my pertinent facts:
    * Bought 20" iMac in July 07.
    * Processor: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    * Memory: 3GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    * Hubs installed the second memory stick a while ago (over a year and i don't remember this problem correlating with the new memory).
    * Video: ATI Radeon X1600
    * OS: Mac OS X 10.6.2
    * HD: 250GB capacity, 31GB available
    * I am using an external harddrive to back up my stuff (LaCie, connected by firewire)
    * Frequently used apps: Firefox, iPhoto, Photoshop Elements, Parallels (Quicken for PC), MS Office for Mac, etc.
The problem starting occurring several months ago, while I was still running Tiger. Have since upgraded to Snow Leopard, with no improvement, in fact, things are getting worse.
I get display distortion ("artifacts"?) - horizontal lines, blocks of the screen distort, usually clearing after dragging that part of the app off the screen of view and then back.
Typically, if I start seeing display issues, a freeze up is imminent.
Sometimes I get a sense it's coming soon - things run more slowly. Other times, it seems without provocation. I click on a window and nothing happens.
Sometimes it's the wheel of death other times screen completely locks up with no spinning wheel. No option to force quit. Mouse is unresponsive. Keyboard appears to be, although I can toggle the Caps lock button on and off (light toggles). If I am streaming video, the screen will lock up, but the audio continues. If I wait (have gone to bed and come back in the am) it is still frozen.
If I am streaming video (i.e Hulu on Firefox) or working in memory intensive applications (Windows, Parallels, Photoshop Elements, etc.) Problem is more frequent.
I can go a day or so without problems, but if I am doing anything slightly involved, it happens much more frequently, as often as every 10 minutes or half hour or so.
    Steps I have taken:
I always have to do a hard reboot. I have run disk utility multiple times, occasionally it finds and corrects stuff, but no fix seems to be permanent.
I have seen suggestions of resetting PRAM as well as doing a clean re-install, but also seen that those fixes haven't endured.
I don't have Apple Care and I'm not sure what steps I should be taking to fix this. Is there hope? I mostly see lots of problems reported, but not successful resolution.
It's aggravating because I can't use the system for the stuff I bought it for (ex: digital scrapbooking) without worrying about losing my data. I switched to a Mac because I heard they ran so great and were "cool" to boot. While there have been many features of the Mac i enjoy, *if this kind of performance is typical after 2 yrs of use, I will not remain loyal to Apple.*
If you have been successful in resolving the issue with Apple, what did you tell them and what did they do?
I am competent system "user", but not as good when it gets into the weeds. Would appreciate any advice, feel free to spell it out as tho I were an idiot.
I would appreciate a "try this, then try this" approach, especially if you have tried it and it has worked for you.
    Thanks for the help,
    Kendra

OK, Mean, I mean Meanest, we have the same system (mine was purchased late 2006), and I can say we have identical symptoms. I agree with Paul_31 regarding disk space, but in addition, from all the posts on various Apple forums, it seems clear that the problem is due to the Radeon X1600 graphics card AND heat. These elegantly-designed Macs that we all love have a lot of stuff packed into a small package. Consequently they run hot, and over time the result is components bake and deteriorate. In our case, the weak link seems to be the Radeon card and since it’s not easily replaced, repair costs are nearly as much as the cost of a new iMac. A contributing factor is that over time dust will build up inside your Mac, and this serves as insulation, retarding heat transfer, and causing components to run hotter still.
OK, so that’s the sad tale, but what can you do? Assuming your system is not too far gone due to the ravages of heat over time, there are things you can do to help prolong it’s life, and hopefully get it to behave itself better until the time it finally fails completely.
In my case, the steps I’ve taken have resulted in a system that now “generally” runs for days at a time without locking up/crashing. A caveat: these are bandaids, not true fixes. I’m convinced the Radeon card will eventually fail and I’ll be faced with shopping for a new Mac – I’m only hoping the steps taken will give me a few more years of use before that happens. So, here’s my suggestions (basically they all have to do with getting your Mac to run cooler and being able to monitor temps so you know just how hot things are getting):
    1. First of all, if you don’t already have one, get one of the free programs available to monitor your Mac’s internal temperatures. One of the most popular ones is a widget, iStat Pro. As I type this iStat Pro is showing my temps are as follows:
    Hard Drive 92 deg. F
    CPU 85 F
    Ambient Air 69 F
GPU Diode (graphics card) 92 F
    Hard Drive Bay 95 F
    Memory Controller 90 F
    Optical Drive 81 F
If you have iStat Pro and see that your temps are about the same as these, I would say don’t bother to read further – you may have a different set of problems. If your temps are 10-20 F (or more) higher, keep reading.
    2. Try to clean out the internals of your Mac with compressed air. After 3+ years of use, I used an air compressor with an air gun attachment and blew through the vents at the back and bottom of my Mac with 60-80psi and actually saw a cloud of dust come out of my Mac. A more effective approach would entail cracking open the case of the Mac so you could really blow directly on the different boards/components. I haven’t done that, but I’m tempted to give it a try. Note: Some have suggested vacuuming and/or using a can of compressed air. I don’t think that approach is all that effective. You need a really strong flow of air to get that dust out of the inards.
    3. Download the free program SMC Fan Control (v 2.2.2). It will allow you to adjust the fan speeds higher for each of the 3 internal fans. The Mac has firmware that ramps up the speeds of these fans as internal temps rise, but the general consensus is the Mac firmware is “too little, too late”. With the standard Mac firmware, the fans will run at their default settings well beyond the point where the components are already way too hot. SMC Fan Control allows you to set the minimum fan speeds higher than the Mac default.
Once you've done these steps, I'd suggest doing a SMC reset, then re-boot while keeping your fingers crossed.
This is getting too long so I’ll stop for now. Good luck...

Already gone through troubleshooting guide a zillion times. Thanks.

This worked for me... A little time consuming but once you get rolling it goes GREAT... Thanks....
I got my artwork and saved it to my Desktop
Opened up Microsoft Paint and clicked on "File" and "Open" and found it to get it on the screen to resize it
Clicked "resize" and a box for changing it opened up
Checked the box "Pixels" and "Unchecked maintain aspect ratio"
Set Horizontal for 640 and Vertical for 480
Clicked on "OK" and went back to "File" and did a "Save As" and chose JPEG Picture
It came up "File Already Existed" and clicked "OK" (really did not care about the original artwork I found because wrong size)
Went to iTunes and on the movie right clicked on "Get Info", clicked on "Details", then "Artwork"
Go to the little box on the top left that shows your old artwork and click on it to get the little blue border to appear around it and hit "Delete" to make it gone
Click on "Add Artwork" and find it where you put the one from above on your Desktop and hit "Open" and OK and your new artwork is now there and all good.
Sounds like a lot of steps to follow but after around 5 or so you will fly through it. This worked perfect on my iPhone 6 Plus and I have artwork on my Home Videos now.

You would need the original installation disks or files for the Adobe software to get it onto your iMac, and having it on two computers may not be allowed by your university's licensing. Talk to whoever issued the MacBook.
As to the music, just copy it over to the MacBook, either via Home Sharing, file sharing, or an external storage medium (hard drive, USB flash drive, etc.).

You need to transfer the iTunes Library from the most recent backup you made before the hard drive was replaced.
You can't transfer the full iTunes Library from the iPad back to iTunes.
There are third-party Windows applications that will transfer data from an iOS device, but they don't re-create the iTunes Library exactly as it was before.

  • The lcd screen of my 15-inch Macbook Pro (mid 2009) is separating from the case. The glue failed due to the heat.  How can I get Apple to fix this factory flaw?

The heat vented from the back of the laptop caused the glue to fail and now the screen is separating from back of the lcd case near the hinges. I know for a fact that this issue is known by Apple as I have seen the issue reported at least a dozen times.  This laptop was considerably more expensive than any comparable laptop at the time I bought it. I bought it believing that I was buying a quality product from a quality company.   I've owned many laptops and I have never seen anything like this.  My laptop is out of warranty but this is really besides the point.  This is clearly a factory defect that Apple should remedy.  What do I need to do to get Apple to fix this design flaw?

    Ask Apple.
We're just regular users here, nobody from the company shows up except for the invisible moderator who purges your posts, threads or self. And if any employee is around, the lawyers probably prevent them from identifying themselves.

I used to solve the issue by running "PleaseSleep" application but that doesn't work anymore since Lion. I now want to fix the underlying problem.
I'm not running any weird background processes and in my energy saver settings I've tagged "put the hard disk to sleep when possible:, "allow power button to put computer to sleep" and "automatically reduce brigthness". All pretty standard.
Is there anyone who can give me some pointers ?

Today I solved the same problem for my iMac running Snow Leopard. See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3008791#15947706. The method may help you, too.
For me it was the DynDNS Updater preventing my iMac from automatically entering sleep mode.
To my knowledge the cause of this sleep problem can only be a peripheral device or a process. So I suggest to first unplug all peripherals and test whether that's the cause. If not, I suggest to terminate one process after another and to test automatic entering of sleep mode after each. Start with user processes; continue with system process if necessary.
At least that's the way I found the offending process. Fortunately, I was able to change the configuration of that process to allow again automatic entering of sleep mode.
    Good luck!
