My iMac and iPod aren't speaking to each other...

I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem--I haven't seen it yet on the archives.
After I updated the latest software for iTunes (which ran with no problems), my Mini suddenly no longer played or displayed any of my downloaded songs--the ones I'd UPloaded from my CDs were there, but none of those bought on iTunes, even though they were still stored in my iTunes on the computer. I downloaded the latest updater for my Mini (1.4.1, I believe), thinking that might help--but didn't notice till too late that it required Mac OX 10.3 or higher (I'm only at 10.2) to run. Unfortunately, I got so frustrated waiting for the darn thing to update that I wound up disconnecting it without waiting for the "OK to disconnect" signal, and then, after a couple more unsuccessful tries, wound up Restoring it altogether, thinking I would try to delete the latest updater and simply reload my songs using the updater compatible with my OS. Now, my computer won't even recognize the Mini when it's plugged in, and I'm afraid to f* things up even worse without asking for help, so...HEELLLLLLPPP!!!
Thanks--

  • Mail and Address Book Not Speaking to Each Other

I recently upgraded to 10.7.4 and at that time decided to drop Thunderbird and Mozilla as my default Email set up.  I embraced using iCal, Mail, and Address Book.  I manage two POP based email accounts and 2 Gmail accounts for work.  I have a very long tree of folders based upon customers in my On My Mac - Email Archive.
It was a pain to get files up and over to Mail from Thunderbird in the first place.  I have used this set up for a few months and am not trying to get the most out of it.  I am having issues with Address Book speaking with Mail.  Address Book has a bunch of contacts that have mostly been pulled our of my Gmail address book but none of my business POP account clients show up. I can not add them to the Address Book.  There is no error message.  Further more using Past Recipients shows nothing.  I am frustrated but can not afford to lose all the project information in previous emails.
    Any suggestions?

To reinstall the progams, who don't you use your computers CD drive?
This could help between the communcation between your Mac and your external Drive. I experienced this problem but with a external HD, and this link solved it.

  • My Windows PC and iPod REALLY don't see each other

the help page suggests as the last attempt that you restore your ipod - which you use the ipod updater software to do - but just like itunes and windows explorer, that application does not "see" my ipod attached - this just started happening out of nowhere today

Is there a setting on the iphone that will allow ical entries on the iphone to sink to my other computers
    Thank-you

    Welcome to the Apple community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

  • We have 3 kids with ipods, all on one apple id and they complain that they get each others messages, apps etc.  what can I do to change this?

We have 3 kids with an ipod touch each.  All are on one apple id (mine, so they have to come to me to authorise purchases) and they complain that they get each others messages, apps etc.  What can I do to set this up differently, so they can each manage their own content etc but not make purchases?

Go onto all iPods, and turn on "Restrictions" and disable installing apps. The apps do auto download, and the only way around the messages problem is to make 3 Apple IDs. When installing apps, it will ask for a "restrictions" password, and you can enter that.

I last updated my husbands iPhone 4 and since then we are getting each others text messages. Sometimes when I text a person that is on bothe our contacts it will come through as my husband and not me.

    Try this:
On all impacted devices, go to settings, messages, send & receive and place a checkmark next to only those phone numbers and email addresses listed you want that device to recognize.
    Good luck!

  • Itunes from Windows XP to new IMAC and  IPOD

I had a 4th generation 20 gig IPOD that broke and I have Itunes and all my music on a Windows XP machine. I recently purchased a new IMAC and I'm going to purchase a new 5th gene Photo IPOD to use with my new IMAC. Does anyone know if I can backup my music from the Itunes on Windows Xp and install/restore all my music files on Itunes on my new IMAC, and then connect the new IPOD to the IMAC. Is this possible somehow? I have over 2300 songs in my music files on Windows Itunes, none of them have been purchased from the Itune store, they are all from my own CD's. I want to transfer everything to the Mac but dont want to have to redo my whole music files on the Itunes Mac. Thanks.

  • Imac and ipod nano

I have a ipod nano. i was using itunes on windows, but we have an imac computer now. Itunes recognizes my ipod but no songs come on itunes. what do i do as i am a computer dummy.thanks for your time.

Are you expecting the content of the iPod to automatically transfer to the new Mac?. I'm that's not the case. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
One other thing, if your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. You should then be able to change your settings: iTunes for Mac 7.3 Keyboard Shortcuts
Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync

  • Lost photos on iMac and iPod

Just got a new iMac and I lost all photos on the external drive. However, my photos on the iPod are also missing. Is there any software out there to find the photos on the ipod and import them to the iMac..Thanks

I too have lost all my photos. On my return from an o/seas holiday, with an ipod filled with over 1000 photos and video clips, I attempted to download to my computer and without thinking (and jetlagged) clicked on yes to reformat my ipod. As soon as I realised what was happening I pulled the plug, but unfortunately lost everything. Since ipods have a hard-drive (much like a computer), it may be possible to retreive deleted files. Or am I dreaming??

  • HT1386 I am unable to synch photo albums from ipad 3 to itunes on my windows pc. In addition to camera roll and ipod cache albums, i have 6 other albums made from pix derived from the camera roll. I have trawled the net for the last 8 hrs in vain!

    Dear Community members,
I am unable to synch photo albums from iPad 3 to iTunes on my Windows 7 pc.
In addition to Camera roll and iPod cache default albums, I have 6 other albums made from pix derived from the camera roll. Eg -  Family pix in a folder, Office pix in another, Plant pixs in another, House architecture pix in another.......all also exist in the camera roll.
I have trawled the net for the last 8 hrs in vain!
I have ios5 on Ipad 3 and the latest Itunes on Windows PC.
As a precaution, I have used the windows "add pictures from...." to keep a copy in a separate folder in the windows desktop, but again it has all the pics mixed up together and not sorted as per the various albums in the ipad!
How to replicate the albums in the windows PC???
    Regards
    Sohal NS

Sync the photos back to the iPad using iTunes. You have to place the photos into a folder from which you sync photos. All photos that you want to sync to the device must be included in the main photos folder and selected to sync each time that you sync.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Photos Tab on the right.
Click on the Sync Photos From heading in order to select it.
Select the photos folder that you want to sync from.
Select all of the albums or photos within the folder that you want to sync.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes

  • Me and my friend can't iMessage each other?

I have an iPad Mini and my friend has an iPod.
Recently, we haven't been able to text each other, so I emailed her, and she said that whenever she tries to message me, a red sign pops up saying "not delivered". So I tried to message her, but it said she didn't have an account with iMessage.
    What do we do?

    Hello iPod-User 383,
I would be concerned too if I was not able to send or recieve messages from a specific person.
I recommend reviewing the following article to troubleshoot issues with sending messages.  I also recommend that your friend follow the same steps on her iPod:

  • N and G networks not "talking" to each other

    Hi Everyone,
I have an Airport Extreme (802.11n) which is connected to our cable modem. Following an article in Macworld, I set up two networks, one for our "N" machines (a new iMac and a Macbook) and a "G" network for our older laptops (a PBG4 and a G4 iBook). The "G" network begins with an AEX which is connected to the Extreme via an ethernet cable. The "N" network is 5ghz and all works well except for one thing. I recently converted the "G" network to WDS; both the AEX base station and the WDS AEX relay have speakers attached to them, and the remote AEX (the last in the chain) is connected to our printer. Before I changed the AEXs to WDS, the "N" machines could both print and play to the connected speakers in the "G" network, but since I switched the "G" network to WDS, the "N" machines can't do so. (The AEXs don't show up in Airport Utility or iTunes on the "N" machines.) The only way we can print or play music from the "N" machines is to switch to the "G" network. I must have missed something when I set up the "G" WDS network. I'd like to make it so the "N" machines can stay on the "N" network but can access the functions on the "G" network. Thanks in advance.
    Joe

In this network configuration, the key is to make sure that the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), that is acting as the main base station in the WDS, is configured as a bridge. (Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode))
