My iMac automatically updated Safari

My iMac automatically updated Safari for Yosemite yesterday and now Safari will not open... Can anyone help?

Hey Startrekman,
I would start your troubleshooting the issue by seeing if Safari opens in another user on your computer. If Safari still will not then I would recommend reinstalling your Mac OS X Yosemite. The articles below will walk you through troubleshooting and isolating the issue and what to do after you have done this. Let me know if this helps or need further assistance.

  • Did my iMac automatically update to "n"?

Just got a new AEXn and loaded the new AE utility on my imac (24" intel), got the AEXn up and running.
Curious - how do i tell if my iMac is now "n" enabled? (I'm running the network as n/g because i have to hook up older laptops from time to time.)
I have no reason to doubt that the update DIDN'T enable, just curious how to verify.
    thanks!

My old Airport Extreme was configured for 802.11g only. This version only has options for b/g/n compatibility or only 802.11n, therefore I miss out on the ability to pump up the data rate to 24Mbps.
Any ideas how to accomplish 'g' only or 'g/n' only?

  • HT5142 Can I update Safari v.4.1.3 to Safari v. 5.1 on my iMac v. 10.4.11 operating system?

Can I update Safari v.4.1.3 to Safari v. 5.1 on my iMac v. 10.4.11 operating system?

Click here and see if Apple will send it to you, or buy it on DVD, assuming you have an Intel Mac.
If you have a G4 or G5, you can only upgrade to 10.5.8 and Safari 5.0.6.

  • Why are mysterious dk.html files automatically downloading upon launch of newly updated Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2)?

Why are mysterious dk.html files automatically downloading upon launch of newly updated Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2)?  I updated last night and ever since, these files download as soon as I launch Safari.

I've gotten these from multiple web sites, including Drudge and National Journal.
It is my opinion that this behavior is a side effect of the latest Java update. Until this latest update, Apple has maintained its own version of Java. The latest update is Oracle Java.
Apple's note on the Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 11 includes this:
On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.
Looking at the innards of one file downloaded, it appears to be a JavaScript beacon from advertising.com for rubiconproject.com. These files are used to track web browsing activity. I suspect that this Java changed the way the beacon is served and Safari.

  • How to update Safari on Snow Leopard IMac

I have an IMac 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Have occasion to run Mail Chimp and it says Safari needs to be updated.  I've run my Software Update in the Apple Logo drop down box and it reports that all updates are already complete.  Why would Mail Chimp say that the Safari program was not adequate to use their program?
Is there another way to update Safari?  I see something called "Safari Extensions" on the drop down for Safari.  Would this be what I need to load?  They are all various commercial programs that hook up to Safari.

    1. If you're using Safari 5.1.10, it's up to date as far as Snow Leopard is concerned. Going further requires upgrading the computer's OS.
    2. Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and download Mavericks from the Mac App Store.

5.1.10 is the latest version for SL.If you are getting a message from Yahoo saying you need to update Safari, ingnore it, it is an issue at their end.
If you have a lower version than listed above,
Make sure you have run these 2 updates:

  • IMac startup automatically opens Safari and Text Edit

Whenever I start or restart my iMac, it automatically opens Safari and Text Edit in two small windows. This happens even even when those programs were off when the computer was shut done. Not a major problem but I'd like to fix it.

Did you check your Login items in the "Accounts" Systems Preference? You might be starting up the applications when you boot.

  • What has the Apple support team done to the Top Sites screen? I just accepted an automatic update to be downloaded to my iMAC, and as a result of this "fix installation" the layout of the Top Sites screen has been terribly "destroyed"! What's the idea?

If you are referring to the non-panorama , but rather the flat look, well that's what they did.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
It isn't automatically updated on your Mac, because it's not on your Mac.
The document you have altered is in the cloud and needs re-downloading from iCloud.com, before you can see the changes on your Mac.

  • Safari RSS Stopped Automatically Updating!

    Hi,
I've been using Leopard since November 2007. For some reason, all of my RSS Feeds have stop automatically updating themselves.
If I go to Check for updates, it's set to every hour, just like it always has been. If I change it to anything else, THEN the latest RSS articles automatically download, but I keep having to manually switch the setting, in order to get any new RSS updates.
    Anyway, have any suggestions?

    Hi
Look again in the Syndications folder. The system requires the database3 file to accumulate feed information.
Other preference files: move these two preference files in your User Library>Preferences to the desktop:
    com.apple.SyndicationAgent.plist and
    com.apple.Syndication.plist
Restart Safari. Again, watch the feed number for a change.
If no change, try Safari from another User Account. For purposes of simplicity, after creating the new account, go to your regular User Account>Library>Safari folder. There, holding the option key, move the Bookmarks.plist file to the Public>Drop Box folder in the same user account. Then, after you log-in to the new account, go to the Public>Drop Box in that account. There, move the Bookmarks.plist file to the User Library>Safari folder. This way, when you open Safari, you'll have the same bookmarks file as used in your regular user account.
Also, make sure you enable the feeds in Safari Preferences>RSS.

  • I have osx 10.6.8 and safari 5.1.10, how do I update safari?

I been using MSN.com as my homepage for some time.  Suddenly I cannot access it using the Safari browser on my iMac.  Instead I get an MSN "preview" page with a message that I am using an outdated browser.  My browser is Safari 5.1.10.  I opened the Apple Menu and chose Software Updates, but it does not provide a Safari update.  How do I update Safari and what version should I use for OSX 10.6.8?

Safari is now a part of OS X and there are different versions (5, 6 and 7) of it.
To update Safari you must update OS X.

  • I cannot update Safari.  I am running Lion and am stuck on Safari 4.0.4  Running Update Software is useless as it ignores my old Safari software.  How do I update Safari manually?

I cannot update Safari!  My iMac is running Lion.  I try using Software Update but it tells me everything is okay.  My current version of Safari is 4.0.4  Very out of date.  My problem seems to be only with Safari.  Can anyone tell me how to manually update Safari?

Is your Safari app located (free-standing) in your Applications folder?

  • Can not update Safari to 6.0.2 or iPhoto to 9.4.2 - App Store

    What should I do?
I'm using the latest version of Mountain Lion, and I can update other apps.
