My iMac booting blue screen after Java update

Hi:
I installed the latest java update and after that my iMac can't boot normally or even start in safe mode. I tried some of the fixes in the forums but nothing really seems to work. Appreciate any help you can give me on this.

Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC.
BTW, which OS X? iOS info is useless.

I installed Windows 7 on iMac, it reboot fine.
But after I installed the boot camp 3.0 from Mac OS X 10.6 disc and pressed the restart buttom, the computer restarted and displayed a blue screen before entering the Windows and then reboot again automatically.
Should I use the Windows 7 installation enabler before installing Windows 7?

So you are not able to access BIOS???
Press F2 immediately (press it many times in the row) after notebook has been power on
But if you are not able to access the BIOS, I assume that there is a serious problem with BIOS/hardware possibly something went wrong during the updatebut usually this should not happen and its sounds strange
However, I think in such case just an ASP technician would help you.

I didnt set anything. I just click the update button for the verison 1.4 from live update 5. After the bios finish updating the system auto reboot then the blue screen appear.
I still can go in the bios.

try a CMOS clear with power cord removed >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
once you have reset the CMOS make sure the boot order and drive modes are correct and retry for a boot!

MBP flashing blue screen after software updates

This morning, my 2011 MBP 17" 2.2GHz i7 (running 10.6.8 with all updates) suddenly started flashing between whatever I was doing, and a light blue screen every few seconds. (The same light blue screen that you get briefly when switching users and starting up). If I restarted, after a random period of a few minutes, the problem would return.
Things kept going during the blue periods (ie keystrokes worked, downloads continued etc)
I tried repairing the disc and permissions. I kept getting certain incorrect permissions coming up, which were related to coreimage IIRC. They were reported as being fixed, but as soon as I ran it again, the same errors came up.
Tried numerous restarts and repairs to no avail. Zapped the PRAM. Ended up reinstalling OSX from the original install discs (10.6.6), and the problem went away. I then did the first software update that came up, which was the 10.6.8 combo and a few other bits and pieces. Used the machine for a few hours with no problems.
I then ran software update again, which was:
Thunderbolt update 1.0;
Safari update 5.1.2;
Security Update 2011-006;
Java 10.6 update 6
The problem reappeared almost immediately, so I'm putting it down to one of those four updates. I'm leaning towards Safari, because on each occasion I got the blinking blue screen, safari was open (although in the background at least once). I'm also pretty sure that I updated Safari (alone) the night before the problems started.
Anyone else having this issue?
EDIT: I should add that my MacPro isn't having this issue, and it has all the same updates installed except for Safari (still running 5.1.1).

I turned graphic card switching back on and ran the latest Safari off and on using youtube etc. with no problems. It used the HD 3000 card all the time for me. I have all the latest updates for 10.6.8 installed on my Early 2011 15" Macbook Pro. I've updated all my applications to eliminate the need for Rosetta. If the problem returns, do a safe mode startup (shift key and power key) and then a re-start to re-built your startup cache. You may have a startup item that's giving you a problem or one of your applications may be running in the back ground even after you quit it. Also, the permission errors never seem to go away no matter how often you run the repair permissions. This doesn't seem to mean anything. These "blue screen" problems probably have to do with with the Apple updates required to transition to Lion. Lion doesn't use Rosetta and you can't run power PC apllications. We had something that worked and Apple screwed it up.

Mac Freezes on Blue Screen After Installing Updates! Help!

Have just done the updates that were available for my wifes mac mini. All went well and it said restart to complete. I did this but when it restarted it would not get past the blue screen, the mouse cursor is there and moving but thats all.
Now my problm is i haven't got a clue about mac's, the wife is away and don't want to tell her that i've managed to trash her Mac as she has got quite a bit on there. If it was windows it would be fine as am happy with that but it isn't and i am stuck!!!!!(read dead if i can't sort it out before she gets back!!)
Now what i want to know is how can i basically get it back to where it was before installing the updtaes or can i get back to a state of working without deleting anything progs installed etc? With windows you can use there system restore after booting in safe mode. Is there a way i can do it with the mac or something along those lines.
i know this is probably a pain post but i am stuck

The only way to get back to a state before the updates is if a backup was made.
As for booting in safe mode, you can try holding the shift key.
If that works, it says that some attached peripheral needs an updated driver. Remove all third party peripherals, and see if it boots.
If It doesn't boot, it is likely the directory is damaged, or the hard drive is very full, or the hard drive might be dying. You can also try zapping the PRAM:

Unfortunately there is no way to tell the difference between the above possibilities, and if you use a directory repair utility on a dying hard drive, it may speed its death. How valuable is her data to her, and is it backed up anywhere?

Blue Screen after Security Update

Hello,
I just got my first Mac, a Macbook, and was having no problems until I installed the most recent security update (along with updates to Quicktime, Safari, iTunes, etc.). The next time I turned the computer on I got the blue screen of death. Since I'm new to Macs, I'm not familiar with PC tricks like "Control-Alt-Delete," so I just held the power button until it turned off. Now when I turn it back on it seems slow to boot, though it appears to be working OK otherwise.
I've done some research here and on other sites, and I gather that the blue screen was a problem for some people upgrading to Leopard, as a result of something called the Application Enhancer. But I haven't seen anything about people whose computers already had Leopard and then installed the security update. Is my problem also due to the Application Enhancer? Will it be solved if I remove the Enhancer somehow? Would I be best served by reinstalling the OS and starting from scratch?
Thanks for helping out a new Mac user. I would appreciate any responses.

Flashes from apple screen to blue screen after latest update.

After I updated last night my phone would never reboot. Goes from screen with apple on it for several minutes then flashes to a blue screen for a second then back to apple screen. I tried hooking up to computer but its like nothing is hooked up. Help!

You are wise to do research in advance of any major purchase.   Regardless of manufacturer , be it Lenovo, Acer, Dell, or HP, people tend to post their problems to the internet rather than their successes. How many people take time to post everyday saying "everything is going great!" ?
Yes, there has been a lot of discussion about blue screen issues. Some caused by turbo memory drivers, and if you check the forum there are updates and fixes for that. Some could be OS related, and some may relate to specific drivers.
Some of your broad assertions, like being forced to use only a single Dimm, are perhaps a bit over generalized. The issue you are referencing is related only to the T61P model, and there is no limitation to only using one memory module. Some customers have discussed lockups while gaming in 3D games with dual dimms, but service has been able to resolve these when noted. We are finalizing our investigation on this issue and resulting resolution. There are no similar issues with rest of the T series, or any X or R series systems.
The choice of whether to apply updates is certainly up to the individual.
Yes, there are stories posted about customer service, but I would suggest that you count them, and consider them against the hundreds of thousands of customers WW.   Again, people tend to post about the exceptions or the problems rather than saying everything is just fine. We do work to resolve issues when they arise.
Once again, I think you are wise to thoroughly evaluate products you are interested in, and the companies that produce them ahead of making your purchase.   I hope you are pleased with whichever system you purchase.

Getting Blue Screen after OS Update.

Dear All...
Iam Having 10.5.1 MAc X. I started a OS update to 10.5.8 and it provided me as a file. I started installing the File. After installing the File, it prompted me to make a restart. On restart, iam getting a Blue screen and the process is running... and no login screen is appearing..
Not sure is that installing in the background or any other problem.
Please assist.

Power up stops at blue screen after software update

I have a rather old Power Book G4, but was working fine until I tried a software update. It had 5 updates. It required a restart so I restarted it, and the update began. At 22% complete it stopped and said to restart. It wouldn't complete the upgrade. So I restarted it. It now stops at the blue screen. It gets past the gray screen with the Apple logo, but stops. Any ideas before I take it in? Thanks.

Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:

If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.

Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 4.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.

If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.

To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
• /Library/InputManagers
• ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

I now get the blue screen after apple update

Hi,
After spending the last 2 hours searching im still no better off!
OK so today my system update thing pops up and says i should download and install itunes 7.1.1 and and apple update which i belive was 10.4.9 but i could be mistaken on that.
Anyway after install all i get is the blue loading screen with the apple logo and the spinning bar. Ive tried holding c to boot from tiger install disk...nothing happens. Ive tried holding shift key for safe mode...nothing happens!
Im really getting p'eed off now. When apple give me an update i would expect to improve things not ruin them!
Anyway if anyone has any ideas please please let me know.

Hi, we all understand the frustrations..OK, 1st I would TURN OFF your mac.
Then unlug ALL peripherals except K/B & M. Then I would Restart. If it restarts OK I would Repair Permissions & reboot again. Then if ALL was well I would d/load OnyX (free) and do a FULL maintenance etc...After that I would go for doing the updates One at a Time & Repairing Permission before & after rebooting...L

Ipod Touch 4g turned to blue screen after IOS6 Update?

So my ipod said I could update to IOS6, but I had to plug it in first. I did and updated then set it out of the way to be on my laptop. When I checked on it all it showed was a bright blue, almost turqoise screen and won't respond to any buttons I press. It won't show up on my itunes anymore. I've tried plugging it in and then replugging it, but that hasn't changed anything. I don't know what else to do. I have a 8gb 4th generation ipod touch if that helps.

Not uncommon problem. Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

IMac has white screen after last update!

I am running maverick on my iMac. After this last update installed I am getting the white screen. It was working fine before. I have tried unplugging everything and restarting and that did not work. I have downloaded and reinstalled maverick and that didn't work. I have ran the disk utilities and the disk and permissions are good. When I am in the disk utility screen there are fuzzy about 1 inch lines running up and down the screen about 2 inches apart. And when I enter the disk utility start up the screen that is gray with the apple logo is all fuzzy. I have a time machine backup but it is a month or so old and I have a couple of files I really need to save if I can.

I Have gotten in using the left shift key forcing safe mode. There are still verticle lines up and down the screen.

Blue screen after software update

I did the software update that came up this morning and on restart I get the gray screen with apple then it goes to blue with a flicker every so often. Anybody else with this problem? Advice?

What baltwo means is that helpers always want to know the Mac model & OS version of users with questions, since this info can be critical to understanding the problem & suggesting safe & effective solutions. This info is so important that it will automatically appear in each of your Discussions posts, but you must enter it in the "My Settings" page (available when you are logged into Discussions) for it to do so.
Note that (for example) "PowerBook G4 12" doesn't tell us which of those models you have, so additional info, typically including the processor (CPU) speed, should be included to uniquely identify it. CPU speed & the OS version are easily found from the info in the "About This Mac" window, which you will find as the first item under the Apple menu. It is also a good idea to include the amount of memory installed in the description. This can also be found in the "About This Mac" window.
Adding this info to your "My Settings" page will help all of us. So will filling in the Geographic Location blank, since this is an international forum & many issues relate to one location but not another. But note that most users do not reveal personal information like their name or email address, which could expose them to spam or other forms of harassment.
