My iMac can't connect to the internet via airport

I brought a third computer, iMac G5, into the house. The first two Intel Macs connect to the internet. The third doesn't see the network. How can I connect

How are your Intel Macs connecting to the Internet? If wirelessly, what type of Wi-Fi equipment are you using? Is your wireless base station configured to support 802.11b or 802.11g clients? If you connect that iMac G5 to the base station with an Ethernet cable, can it connect to the Internet?

  • Help, I cannot connect to the internet via airport with either my Imac or I-Pad.  Connecting via ethernet works okay for Imac.  I can connect wirelesssly with my windows laptop.  I have reset my router, created a new network. It was all okay on Monday

Normally I have my IMac, I-Pad and Windows Laptop all working on my home network via wi-fi. This week I find that I cannot access the inetrnet on my IMac or I-pad via wi-fi but I can connect to the internet via wi-fi with my windows based laptop.
The airport diagnostics (reds/yellows) indcate that I am connected
I can access the internet if I plug my IMac into the router via an ethernet cable
I have restarted the IMac and the I-Pad, rebooted the router and created a new network.  None of these changes has made a difference.  Does anyone have any ideas please?

  • Can't connect to the internet with Airport OR ethernet cable

I know many other people are having problems with airport not being able to connect to the internet. I've never had any problems with my mac before, but 2 days ago, it started to act really funny. When i turned it on, my time and date were changed to Jan. 1, 2000, and I kept on getting notifications about configd and mdnsresponder wanting to connect to the internet. I did a little research and fixed that problem. Then, a few days ago, my internet was dropped from my computer completely, and I've never been able to connect via airport since.
The main problem is that even when I plug the ethernet cable into my mac, I can't connect to the internet either. It worked a few days ago, but now my computer can't even connect. It registers that the cable is in the computer, but thats' about it. The Network Diagnostics assistant tells me to restart themodem, and that hasn't been helping at all. Any helpwould be appreciated.

First Reset your Pram to see if resets you clock (the different Date caused the problems. Plus open System Preferences->Date & Time pane. In there make sure you set the current date/time and se if you can have the Mac automatically update the time from a Time Server.

  • Can't connect to the internet with airport or firewire

I can't seem to connect to the internet with airport or firewire. I recently restored my old G4 mac mini PPC 1.42 (with airport and bluetooth) Tiger 10.4.8 with a new harddrive. I have it connected to my leopard mac pro, internet sharing is on (both computers), the systems are connected, however, the mini just can't connect to the internet. tried it also using airport, no go. network diagnosis seems to go in a constant loop.

works ok with ethernet connection though.
    that'll work.

  • I can't connect to the internet with airport

ok so i'm at these wifi hot spots scattered throughout nyc. and i cannot connect to the internet. used the internet assitant to set up my computer to connect with airport and auto dhcp but nothing is working. what's worse is that i'm seeing all these other mac users connecting. even my old powerbook connected through these free wifi spots. the only free wifi hot spot i can use is the ones supplied at the apple stores. is there something i'm missing?

    Sorry you are having problems...
Are you getting any sort of error message? When you
go into the Network System Preference, what does it
tell you? Can you "see" the wireless networks but
just not connec? Have you ever connected to a
wireless network (faulty wireless card perhaps)?
Please give us a bit more info so we can help.
under the network preference within system preferences, i click on the "assist me" button in the lower right hand corner. i am then presented with two options...network diagnostics and to configure my connection. when i click on the network diagnostics button it's all green...with exception of the isp. airport is green. internet is green. and on the main network preference it says i am connected to network XXXXX via airport and that network XXXXX is connected to the internet so therefore shouldn't i be connected to the internet? these networks are unlocked/free wifi as well. the only free wifi spot i've been able to connect to is the wifi offered in the apple stores. my network configurations are set for automatic as well. i can't seem to figure out what the issue is. my old powerbook connected to any unlocked/free wifi networks just fine...never had an issue.

  • Mini can't connect to the internet via ethernet bridge

I installed a Netgear WGPS606 (It's a print server and wireless ethernet bridge) on my home wireless network. Here's the Configuration: DSL connected through a Linksys BEFSR41 DSL/Cable router with 4 port switch. My Graphite Airport base station connects to one of the ports on the switch, and it serves the wireless computers on the network. The WGPS606 is connected wirelessly to the Airport Base station. I have a MacMini connected to one of the ethernet ports on the WGPS606. The Mini successfully gets its IP address from the DHCP server on the Airport. (Interestingly, the Airport's DHCP server is configured to provide addresses for airport clients, not ethernet clients, but it does provide an IP address for the Mini -- I assume because the mini is connected through the wireless bridge.) I can see and connect to the Mini via the local network, but the Mac Mini cannot connect to the internet.
    Any clues?
    Mark

Never mind. I gave up on the Netgear print server and bought a second AirPort Express and set up a WDS network. Everything works like a charm. That's the last time I waste nearly a day of my time to save $30 bucks on a piece of hardware.

  • How far away can you connect to the internet from Airport Extreme (802.11n)

How far can i take my Laptop away from Airport Extreme (802.11n) and still have internet connection

    According to:
    http://www.apple.com/au/airportexpress/
They claim the Extreme has a 45m range:
"Suppose you want to connect to the Internet with your PowerBook in an area that lies beyond the 45 metre range of your AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station"
Will you be using all N devices? G?, B? or a combination?

  • Can't connect to the internet via router(WRT54G)

Hi, I've just installed my WRT54G wireless router even though I'm connected to the internet and all the right lights are flashing. I still don't get any internet connection through the router. I've tried all kind of methods but still nothing. Please help me.

if you have cable isp, log on to the router's admin <192.168.1.1> via internet explorer.. doesn't need the router to be online on the web to access it..
once inside, select mac address clone on the blue strips and choose enable and click clone my pc's mac bar..(make sure you use the main pc that was first online thru the modem/cable box)..then save settings..
then go to status on the black strip and check if you have an ip address and dns 1 to 2/3.. if you do.. then congrats.. you have successfully configured the router..
if you have dsl, and has username and pw from isp, log on to router admin same way and select on the first box w/ the drop down arrow pppoe, type in un & pw and save settings..gp to status and make sure pppoe says connected w/ ip addresses as well..
if no un & pw, connect only pc and router, access router admin same way, change lan ip to a diff. segment <192.168.2.1>save settings..unplug the router's power cable only for 10-20sec and plug in internet cable from dsl box and power as well.. to make sure, log on to new ip of router (e.g 192.168.2.1), clone pc's mac as well..then go to status and check if you have ip addresses..
NOTE: if non of them gave you ip addresses, click dhcp renew / refresh button on status screen for cable and dsl w/o un & pw..
if pppoe connection, try powering down router & modem at same time for 2min. then power them back on.. it should work by then..
whew!!! that was long.. nwei, it worked for me and my neighbor, i have cable, she has dsl..good luck!!!

  • Password doesn't save when connecting to the internet via Airport

When I try and connect through Airport to my wireless internet connection an error message comes up almost immediately with the message that the "connection has timed out".
The only way I can get the internet through Airport is if I run through the Network Diagnostics scheme and re-enter my password which I have previously entered and checked off to save.
This is getting really frustrating every time I turn on my computer and it has only been an issue since I upgraded to Leopard. I have all the current updates and drivers installed.
I've checked Keychain Access to see if it was being overridden by an earlier password but that's not the case. What else can I do to automatically have Airport connect to the internet?

Have you deleted all the Airport keychains and created a new location ? That might fix it.

  • I can no longer connect to the internet via Airport Extreme.  HELP!

Over the weekend my Macbook told me that my Airport extreme firmware needed to be updated, so I did that, now I have no internet connection from the Airport. I have no problem connecting to the Airport itself, but I have no actual internet connection. The connection is fine when I plug an ethernet cable directly into the computer.
I really hope someone can help with this!

Hi DaveX83 and welcome to the discussions.
    A few things to try.
Press the reset button once on the back of your Extreme and let it restart. Check for proper operation.
If no help there, keep the ethernet cable connected, and open Airport Utility. Click on Manual Setup near the bottom of the pane. On the next screen click the Airport icon at the upper left of the pane, then click Wireless in the line just below that reads Summary - Time Capsule - Wireless - Access.
Check to see that your wireless is set up, security set up, passwords, etc. You may need to reconfigure your wireless settings again and update the Extreme to store them and restart.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't connect to the internet via WiFi?

Okay, so recently my service plan has finished, and i was hoping i can access the internet by using my dsl's home. So i always connect my mob to the DSL, but I cannot access anything, and if I try to open something it would spend from my credits. Is there a way to connect to internet without spending my credits?

Yes, you will need to set your Options > Advanced > Browser > to Hotspot, and then you will be able to use the HotSpot browser for internet surfing and usage only. You will not have access to all of the BlackBerry applications like Facebook for BlackBerry, RIM's push email, Messenger, etc.
Some third party applications like Pandora radio will work on WiFi connection only.

  • Can I connect to the internet via Bluetooth with E...

The WLAN in my office is restricted to only company notebooks, so I cannot use my E66 to browse the internet during meetings, etc.
Can I use a Bluetooth stick on my desktop machine and get internet on my E66 via Bluetooth?
    Thanks,

Thanks for letting me know about GNUbox. While googling for it I found this:

  • Why won't my Power Book connect to the internet via Airport (AEBS) ?

Since getting a new Broadband provider and ADSL modem (before I had cable modem which worked perfectly) which is cabled up to my EMAC (with Airport card) I cannot connect my Power Book to the internet ? I have reconfigured and hopefully set the preferences correctly on both computers i.e. Personal Web sharing- On, Internet sharing -On etc.
I can send files between the two computers and they connect to my network fine, but the Power Book cannot get the internet. Can anyone please help ?

Personal Web Sharing is not necessary.
I believe VickyMC is using her eMac to share the Internet account to her PowerBook. She has Personal Web Sharing enabled so that the ports are opened to allow access through the eMac to the Internet.

  • HT3546 Although I am connected to the internet via Airport the internet connection does not stay on and comes with a "time-out" message. The airport connection is still on however. I have recently bought an old Mac Book 1.1.

I have recently bought an old Mac Book after having purchased an iPhone and iPad.
The internet connection (via Airport) keeps timing out while the Airport connection is still on as confirmed by the Mac and shown on the task bar.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Peter

Only fixed this in the last day or two . . .with this!

  • I've restored my old iMac using the original install discs to OS x10.4.6 and now can't connect to the internet with airport. Can someone please help?

I've done several of the special reset techniques for air port as suggested in the airport discussiions and now am asking for somebody who has had experience with restoring OS X to its original state and what, if anything am I missing. Thank you in advance, lee242.

You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
When you install Firefox 3.6 it will use your existing bookmarks and other user data.
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com
