My Imac crashed. How do i put a backup on a new one?

My Imac crashed. I have a new one and have been using it for a while, but I have a back up of the old mac with time machine and would like to put it on the new one. I'd like it to have the hole mac. I don't want the stuff which is on the imac, only the backup!
Thanks for the help.

Time Machine is one method, this has been part of OS X since Leopard came out 5 years ago. Use Spotlight and type Time Machine to locate it. Apple also provides a tutorial on what it is, I'm away from my Mac at the moment so you will have to Google Time Machine Tutorial to locate it.
I would also recommend creating a second backup on a second external HD. With backup, redundancy is a VERY good thing because backups can fail too. To create a second backup I would recommend either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. Both apps create bootable clones of your internal HD. Time Machine cannot be booted but it's great for lost, deleted or otherwise misplaced, files, apps, etc...You can find both SD and CCC by Googling them, both current cost less than $30 and are both excellent apps. Which one you choose IMHO doesn't really matter, personally I use SD but many others have been using CCC with excellent results for years. Both are kept up-to-date and have very good support. A bootable clone is an exact copy of your internal HD, it can be used to boot your system in the event of an internal HD failure so you can return to work immediately.

I really need help with this one. Had alot of music on my old ipod cant figure out how to put it on my new one?

If you are asking how to authorise your iTunes account on that computer, then you do so via the Store drop-down menu at the top of iTunes (pressing Alt-S should get the Store menu to appear) - this screenshot is from a Mac, but it should be fairly similar on windows 8 :

  • My computer crashed, how do I get my songs on my new one?

My computer crashed and I lost everything.
How can I get my songs on to my new computer?

Well "crashed" is a broad description.
1: Does Windows fail to boot and everything else works?
2: Does the computer physically not work? Does the hard drive still work?
3: Did you erase anything on the hard drive?
You see, if Windows fails to boot, one can boot off a cd/dvd/usb key with a operating system on it and recover files.
If the computer physically doesn't work, the hard drive might still work. It can be extracted and a adpater used to recover the files.
If the hard drive is dead, and the content is worth a lot of money, say more than $3000,  then it might be worth having a platter recovery service take a look at it for $2000 or more.
But if you overwrote anything on the drive, then your finished.
There is one last option, if you have all your content on a iDevice, it might be recoverable with third party software, ask over at iLounge (can't say it here)

my old laptop crashed how do i get my library on my new laptop?

An external bay is something like this: External 2.5 SATA to USB Hard Drive Caddy Case
A small Philips driver is usually all you need to access the hard drive in the leptop. You (or a technically adept friend) remove the drive from the old laptop, put it in the bay, hook it up to your new computer and read what can be recovered from it. Your iTunes library would typically be in X:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes where X: is the letter assigned to the drive.
There's a chance the drive won't work at all, but often it will work for reading data even when you can no longer get it to run your operating system. Seems like a small investment to potentially recover all your lost data, not just iTunes.
If the drive won't work, then the link I posted earlier explains how you can recover all the media and data from your existing device into a new iTunes library. Once you dont this you can restore the backup of the old device to the new one.

  • My computer crash how do i transfer my itunes to the new computer?

my computer crash how do i transfer my itunes to my new computer?

I sympathize with roaminggnome - How is this so? I will tell you how this is so.....
2 Macbooks and an Ipad were stolen from my house. When i was out of the house, I had my phone with me.
I always backed everything/synced to my computer AND to icloud.
Now we have a new computer and Ipad and you are telling me I would need to email my 1,600 pictures from my iphone photo albums to myself and reload them to my new computer?
You have got to be kidding me? I also do not understand how I saved all of my albums to my ipad & on the computer and synced to BOTH the computer AND icloud, but those albums are lost, because they were not on my camera roll?
    1. I need another solution to getting my photos from my iphone to my imac.
    2. How do i recover those albums that were saved to icloud, but I can only "see" the camera roll on icloud.
I know they are there somewhere - here is why:
When I first got my (new) Ipad and had downloaded (what i thought was everything) from icloud, I opened up my photos to show someone a picture that night and low and behold the names of several of my albums were in the photo app, but the pictures were all jumbled up. Almost like it was trying to search and organize, but it just wasn't done...... Example - dog album had pictures of leaves or people, not the dog.
The next day I opened the Ipad & went to photos, no albums, just photo stream, camera roll. Only the pictures that had been taken when we first got the (old) Ipad.
    Can anyone provide assistance??
    thanks!

iMac crashed, trying to use Time Machine backup. In Restore From:it only offers Macintosh HD on ..... (grayed). There are backups listed below. When I click on a current backup and click on continue I get a "Select a Destination" with Searching for disk, but nothing comes up.
I am connected to my Passport if that helps, but I think that is where it is getting the backup list.
Any help on how to proceed?
    Thanks,

Thanks for your help on this. I was trying to restore from a new drive. The problem I have is that Time Machine will not let me do so, so far.
When I go into 'Restore from Time Machine Back up) I can access the Time Machine HD ok. But then when I go onto next page (Select a Back Up) the 'Restore From' option only has the greyed out name of my crashed HD (this seems wrong?). If I continue the process to erase starts and then stops, message says:
An error occurred while adding a recovery system to the destination disk.
it only seems to want me to back up to my crashed HD which I have no intention of using

    Hi there old45,
You may find the information in the article below helpful.
iTunes 11 for Windows: Change where your iTunes files are stored
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12365
Consolidate your files in the iTunes folder
You can consolidate all the files in your library in the iTunes folder—for example, to make it easier to move your library to a new computer.
Choose File > Library > Organize Library.
Select “Consolidate files.”Files remain in their original locations, and copies are placed in the iTunes folder.
To create folders (Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Audiobooks, and so on) inside your iTunes folder, and place all your imported media files in the appropriate folders, select “Reorganize files in the folder ‘iTunes Media.’”
    Locate your iTunes files
    Do either of the following:
Find out where a file is stored: Select the item in iTunes, and choose File > Get Info. The path to the file is shown at the bottom of the Summary pane (next to Where).
Show the file in Windows Explorer: Select the song, and choose File > Show in Explorer.

  • How do I put a group of tracks into one album

How do I put a group of songs into one album?  They copied separately into iTunes.

Generally, in iTunes, all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist to keep things together. For older iPods each track from the same album should have the same artist, or be marked as a compilation where appropriate. On iOS devices you may need to go to Settings > Music > Group By Album Artist > On. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

My computer crashed; how can i activate my product on my new computer
    thnx

    wim laporte
What version of Premiere Elements do you have and on what computer operating system was it running on and will it be running on?
On how many computers do you already have this same purchased activated serial number? Assuming just the computer that crashed?
If just that one crashed computer, then just install the program from your installation files or installation disc.
But, make sure your installation files or installation disc for the crashed computer will be supported by the new computer.
If you already have the same purchased activated serial number on two computers (crashed and another one), then you will need to deactivate
this purchased activated serial number for the other non crashed computer before trying to install on the new computer.
We can give you more details on Deactivation once we know the program version.
Adobe allows the purchased activated serial number on no more than 2 of your computers. And you cannot use them at the same time.
Please review. If any questions or need clarification, please ask.
    Thank you.

Add On...If more sorting out is required, then Adobe will need to do it since it is the only one to take care of activation issues. We are not Adobe.

  • How can i get a damaged IMac just delivered replaced for free? How long will it take to get the new one?

I just unwrapped my new iMac just being delivered by UPS and after removing all the wrapping I noticed deep scratches on the aluminium front and a big dent on the metal frame surrounding the screen. Obvioulsy it fell in the Apple assembly process or a heavy thing fell on it. I am so crossed as it took already 7 days to arrive and I now need to spend time trying to get it replaced one way or another, I believe this will take weeks before I get a replacement iMac and I am not sure in which state this new one will arrive. Very frustrating experience. I am hesitating to cancel the whole thing.

IF you bought it from apple, you can bring it back to apple for a full refund or exchange. You can also call apple support to request for a mail-in box so you can return the item. if on the other hand it is an apple authorize reseller, kindly contact them for exchange/refund. They will give you an option on whether they will give you a label to help you send back the item to them or take it to the store.

  • My hard drive crashed on my macbook pro and I had a new one installed and they were unable to get my pictures off of it. Is there anyone who could help? I'm going to lose all my memories of my kids! I got my old hard drive

My hard drive crashed on my macbook pro so i had a new one installed and they couldn't get my pictures off. I dont want to lose all my memories! They gave me back my old hard drive. Is there anyone that could help me?

I think how you understand the value of having backups. All you can do is:
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
You will need an external enclosure for the old drive so you can connect it to the computer in order to try the recovery software before you buy it. But if they don't work then you will need to send the drive to a recovery service such as Drive Savers.

  • How do I restore a broken iPhone's backup onto my new one?

    Hi,
My iPhone 4s recently stopped working (not the phone itself, just he screen) so I cannot get into it to set up an icloud backup or whatever. I luckily made a backup only a day before it broke, so now I want to put that backup onto my new iPhone 4s. Unfortunately, when I click "restore backup.." it says that my iPhone has never been backed up onto my computer, and thus it finds no backups that I can restore it to. I am aware I never backed it up, but I am unsure of how to access my backup from my old iPhone when I plug in my new iPhone into itunes. Any ideas??
    Thank you

Easy.  Restore the new iPod from the backup of the old iPod.  See the restoring topic of:
