My iMac doesn't recognise my camera Sony DCR-PC330E

Hello,
PC user for years, I decided 3 weeks ago to buy an Imac 27" on AppleStore (Mac OS X 10.6.7)
I've got a camera Sony DCR-PC330E.
I've bought this cable in order to connect my cam on the FireWire port of the iMac.
When I connect the cam with it, nothing happens The presence of the cam is not detect, whereas ther is no problem on my PC.
Does my camera not compatible with Mac ?
Should I installed a specific driver ?
Thanks by advance for the attention you accord to this post.
CedriKo
PS: I sorry for my bad english.

Hi, I have been reading briefly the instruction manual for your camera online.
It would seem that for connection to an iMac you should use a USB cable and not Firewire.  The USB cable was supplied with the camera.
I also get the impression that you should have with the camera a CD which has software that you need to install on your iMac.
May I suggest that you get hold of your camera's instruction manual and read the instructions, I think that you should be able to solve this yourself then!
Good luck

  • IMac doesn't see my my Sony DCR-HC19E via USB?

Please can anyone suggest a way of getting my iMac 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 [ 10.8.3 ] to see the video being output from my old Sony DCR-HC19E HD camera?
I'm using the only cable I have which is a USB, I've tried iMovie, Final Cut Express and Quicktime Pro but none of these seem to work. I've tried an alternative USB cable just in case the original was faulty but without success.

If the camera has Firewire then use that, also look at iMovie '11 Supported Cameras

  • My iMac doesn't recognise some photos on my Kingston camera card won't download on to my iMac

My iMac doesn't recognise some photos on my Kingston camera card but recigognises others. How can I get it to download the rest of my photos?

I'm using iPhoto. I have downloaded some off the same card but every now and then it refuses to recognise all of them. Can't figure out why as I perform the same action each time.

When I plug my Canon 5Dii into Lightroom, the camera has a flashing 'busy' notice and Lightroom doesn't recognise the camera even though my computer confirms 5D is conected. I had this issue on my previous computer at first and I can't remember how I resolved it.

  • IMac doesn't recognise the internal hard disk (intermittent)

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me an advice on this problem.
Background: A few days ago my iMac (20-inch MA877LL) would not boot up, it would sit on the gray screen with the wheel spinning for ever. I thought the OS might have got corrupted so I tried to re-install Snow Leopard from the CD. Installation fails with a message like 'the content of HD can not be changed'. I then went to Disk Utilities trying to repair the disk but had no luck with the repair so I decided to format the disk. I managed to get into my hard disk using the cmd R key combination at power up and backed up my essential files onto a external hard disk. I formatted/erase the hard disk (zeroed out) and tried to reinstall the Snow Leopard again. The installation failed again. Rebooted the system again and tried to re instal again but this time I got as far as the 'select the disk where you want to install Mac OS' but my Hard Disk is not listed, it's a blank list! Rebooted the maching again, tried the installation, this time it sees the hard disk but the installation fails again.
I have tried to change the boot source by hodling the 'alt' key down at power up, but I am only given the option of the CD drive with installation disk as the boot source i.e. no Har Disk. It appears that the Hard Disk is intermittently recognised and hence my problem with booting the maching when the problem started.
I am happy to purchase an internal disk to replace the existing one, but I have a feeling the actual Disk it's OK, after all I managed to access my data to back up and then format it with no problem. I just think there's a problem somewhere that intemittently doesn't recognise the Hard Disk.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

You need to have the hard drive replaced. The one that is currently installed has failed.

  • IMac doesn't recognise keyboard (wireless and usb)

    Hi!
I've seen similar posts, but non had advice that helped. I'm having this problem for a weeks, before the problem everything worked perfectly. My Apple wireless keyboard start to act strange. I couldn't type some letters, so i put new batteries and still the same problem. When I type for example letter S it appears on screen as DS, the light on the shift key doesn't turn off when pressed. I have also tried to unpair it but now i can't even pair it with the computer any more.
I have bought A4tech KD-126 keyboard which was recognisable by the computer till first time i unplug it. After i tried to plug it in all usb ports, led lights on the keyboard are working but computer doesn't recognise it as a keyboard.
So I have tested other keyboard which my husband is using (A4tech KB-28G) and this only keyboard that works for now.
I want to make A4tech KD-126 keyboard working at least.
    Please Help!!

Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try the wired keyboard again.

  • IMac doesn't recognise phone attached via usb

I have an iMac and originally I had an iPhone. For certain reasons I have had to change to a Samsung Galaxy S3.
Originally when I plugged my Samsung into the iMac via usb cable it connected without any issues, however recently when I connect it the iMac does not recognise that there is a device attached. However, the phone still charges.
I have tried this on another computer (a pc) and it is recognised, I was just wondering if anyone knows why the iMac has trouble finding the device when it had no issues originally.

Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try the wired keyboard again.

  • I can no longer get my MacBook to recognize the same camera (Sony DCR-SR68) I've been doing this with for the last year.  I just upgraded to OSX 10.8.1 - did I make a mistake to upgrade my software ????!!!!

I am trying not lose my mind - and I won't even go into the Paralells issues.
My Grandmother just had a stroke, and I just want to get the video from some of this summer's parties with her.
Same MacBook,  Same Sony DCR-SR68 Handycam,  Same IMovie
The only difference is the 'new'  'upgrade'd software.  The time I could be spending with my family, I am just drowning in all my computer issues
that I never had before this upgrade.
    Help !

After plugging in your camcorder, I would run Software update just one more time.
I would also try to see if the app "Image Capture" doesn't see your camcorder. This is found in your applications folder but you can get to it easily by hitting command and space bar to bring up spotlight and then typing "Image Capture".
the current version of iMovie is 9.0.7
you could try creating a new user and seeing if the camera doesn't connect from there.
if it doesn't then you might need to find a friend with a compatible OS until Sony decides to update it's support for OSX.
I looked on their site but it doesn't seem like they've ever supported it with your model.
you might also want to send feedback to apple as to your experience, although their support is limited to their own hardware, so calling Sony might be a better idea...

  • Older Sony mini DV cam (Sony DCR-PC5) & imovie hd "no camera attached"

My imovie hd does not appear to be compatible with my Sony DCR-PC5 using a mini dv tape. When I plug my fire-wire cable from the camera into my computer my imovie does not recognize the camera. (although my camera recognizes with "DV IN). How can I get imovie to recognize my camera so I can begin downloading?

    Hi
My list to try to find the problem.
    Cable
    • Sure that You use the FireWire - USB will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    *Using WHAT versions ?*
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape.
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Exchange formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)
    from LKN 1935.
Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

in addition to Bengt's excellent '9 yards of advice' ..
camera set to 'Play' , not rec/computer/etc.?
camera not on battery, but power-line?
did your Mac 'recognize' this camera before...?
    a technical check.
    connect camera, on, playback, fw-connected...
click on the Blue Apple, upper left of your screen ..
    choose 'About../More..
under Firewire.. what do you read..?
    More
    • FileVault - Secure that it’s turned off
    • Network storage - DOESN’T WORK
    • Where did You store/capture/import Your project ?
External USB hard disk = Bad Choise / FireWire = Good
If so it has to be Mac OS Extended formatted

Merci

Vous avez besoin d'un câble Firewire. Sony appelle cela iLink câble.

  • IMovie cant find camera Sony DCR-TRV33E

I have Sony DCR-TRV33E Camcorder and MacOSX Tiger. is it really so that it is not possible to use the camera with iMovie? I cant find this type from the supported list http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/camcorders.html there are tens of other DCR-TRVs. The problem is that the iMovie 5.02 cant find the camera, (the “camera is not connected” was the report from the program) I have also tried to reset the camera but it does not help. And yes Iam using iLink/FireWire cabel. Previously I was using it with Mac os9. The camera is only about 2 years old. Should I use MacOs 9 for this and if yes is the new iMovie working with MacOs9?
If there is drivers etc… to resolve this problem could you please tell me where to download them.
    All the best
    Tapio Onnela

    Hi Tapio
Please try Your Camera on another Mac - to see that the A/D chip is OK
in the Camera. If defect then it behaves just as You describe:
    - camera connected
    - camera windig forward and backward
    - no picture
See if my list can help:
    Capture/Import problems:
    a) File-Vault is on - turn it off
    b) don’t Daisy chain camcorder - external hard disk - Mac
    c) Slow hard disk (fragmented: repair permissions, repair hard disk, use a faster hard disk)
    d) Something is occupying the CPU/System, like other programs, Internet etc.
    e) Bad RAM-chips
    f) drop outs on the miniDV-tape - make a camera to camera copy on a tape which You have previous recorded with a time code (dummy recording).
    g) FW-wire cable OK?
    h) Break in the time-code on the miniDV tape (make a camera to camera copy on a tape which is prerecorded with nothing/anything so that the tape has a time-code from beginning to the end)
    i) defective camera TRY IT ON ANOTHER MAC !
    j) remove bookmarks in iMovie project
    k) Do You have desktop pictures or screen-savers active? Try turning them off.
    l) Updating - OS has to be a clean install - not an update eg from X.3.x to X.4.x (no good)
OS X.4.0-2 needs a clean install to work (I use X.3.9)
    m) Updating QT and/or other updates (to 7 needs v6 to be cleaned out first)
QT v.7 needs a clean install to work (I use 6.5.2)
    n)
Have you tried the crazy fix:
Open GarageBand, play a few notes, close it and reopen iMovie. The camera should import fine now.
    Sue/SDillini
    o) Trash: com.apple.iMovie.plist and com.apple.iMovie3.plist : files (Xinram)

  • How to convert Hi8 to iMac? Have 2 video cameras: Sony CCD-YRV98 video Hi8 and Panasonic SDR-SW20 digital video. Please provide the steps to convert to iMovie '11. Also, is there a way to burn in blu-ray?

I already have two video cameras. One older (Sony) in Hi8 and the less older one (Panasonic) which is digital. Between the two can it be accomplished to transfer the Hi8 video on tapes to iMovie?
I have the newer iMac 21.5" and also would like to know if it is possible to record this on blu-ray. The iMac didn't come with iDVD, which means I have to get that uploaded. Any other suggestions?

    Sony Hi8 camcorder
No it is an Analog Camera - and have NO Digital-Out
I may be made a Wrongful assumption in that the - Panasonic digital camcorder - was a Digital 8 Camera.
If it is - it has a Digital Out (FireWire) and can playback the Hi 8 tapes from the other Camera.
If it is a miniDV Camera - it also have a FW-out (Digital out) - BUT can not play Your Hi 8 tapes.
Then there are not so many ways to do this.
If Your Panasonic digital camcorder - Has Analog in RECORDING ( not all have this, it was an EXTRA Cost ! ) - Then You can playback from the Hi 8 Camera to this and record onto a miniDV tape - to be played and Captured/Imported into Your Mac.
The Panasonic digital camcorder - Might have a feature - Play trough - that makes it possibly to use it as an Analog - Digital bridge - some can do this - But You've not told the exact type/no: etc - So I can not guess.
If this still do not work (The Panasonic digital camcorder do not have an Analog in connection/function)
    - Then You need an Analog/Digita Converting box - from Hi 8 to this A/D-box then to Mac via FireWire.
There are several types and prices - I got a fairly expensive box due to that I've lot's of old VHS tapes in even bad quality. And this - Canopus ADVC-300 - has a function - Timebase Correction - that helps a lot in regard to drop outs and Audio slowly going out of sync. I just keeps perfect even over several Hours of VHS-tapes.
    Yours Bengt W

  • IMac doesn't recognize my camera in iMovie 08 anymore...

I've transferred and edited hours of video from my Canon HG10 on my iMac without issue, but something happened last week, and now when I link the camera to the iMac, the camera notes the link, but the iMac does not. At least not in iMovie.
    Any ideas as to why?

Hi I have just got the same problem with a Sony HDR -TG3. I think there was an imovie software update last week and now my TG3 isn't detected by imovie on either mine or my wifes imac...HELP!

  • IMac doesn't recognise iPod

iTunes and my computer does not recognise my 3G iPod. I've gone through a lot of the posts and tried all the various remedies (5R's, uninstalling iTunes, etc). I have no idea what the problem is - my iPod still works but I can't sync it. Now I'm nervous about manually resetting it from the diagnostic menu (the only way I can) and being left with a useless white box.

I don't know what "almost everything" is unless you describe it, so...
Is this a new purchase that you can trying to use for the first time with your computer?  Or did this work before, and does not now for some reason?
If it's new, make sure the USB cable to completely inserted into the shuffle's headphone's jack.  The fit can be tighter than expected, especially when brand new.
When you connect the shuffle to the USB port, does the shuffle's light come ON.  If it does, what does it do?
Otherwise, you can do a test to confirm the problem is not related to the USB connection.  Shut down (power off) your iMac, and disconnect all USB devices including hub, except for standard keyboard and mouse, if normally used.  Do this to reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1655
Start up iMac, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle to a direct USB port on the iMac.  If nothing happens, including no light on the shuffle, connect something else to the same USB port, to confirm it is working (preferably something similar like a USB flash drive or external drive).

  • IMac doesn't recognise HP Photosmart 5100

I have been using an HP Photosmart all in one printer with a wireless connection with my iMac for three months. Todaty I turned the printer off. When I turned it back on, the computer didn't recognise it.
The printer's name is not in the list of possible printers to connect to, in fact there are no printers listed. I have tried to add the name nut nothing happens.
I read somewhere on the net that I should go to
    Applicarions
    Go
    Utilities
and choose Printwrs, but printers aren't listed in the utilities.
It looks as though something important is missing, but I don't know what.
    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks for all the help.
I did as you suggested and reset the print pane in Print and Scan in System Preferences. But his hasn’t helped at all.
I tried to type the name of my printer into the box at the top of the “Add Printer” window, but nothing happens when I click Enter.
We have two User Accounts on the iMac and the printer will not work on either of them
