My iMac doesn't remember my wireless network

A couple of months ago I bought a new wireless router and ever since then when I turn on my Mac, it's only about 1 time in every 4 that it automatically reconnects to my wireless network; most of the time I have to click on the top menu bar, select 'other' from the wireless menu, type in the network name and key in the password. It is probably worth noting that there usually is an entry with the right network name, but the encryption method is wrong if I select it, so I have to use 'other'.
Prior to getting this new router, the Mac used to automatically connect every time. Any ideas how to make it do so again? Thanks.

Hi,
Your best bet is to try System Preferences > Network > Airport and check the options in there...
Also there's a thread on another forum about this...

  • Can not use imessage/facetime on new iPhone 5 and can not get iPhone 4s and 5 to remember any wireless networks.

Two weeks ago I got an iPhone 4s and an iPhone 5 from a local carrier in central and eastern Kentucky called Appalachian Wireless. We had our numbers ported with AT&T. My iPhone 4s can use imessage/facetime but my wife's iPhone 5 can not. It just says waiting for activation and after several hours it will then say activation unsuccessful please turn imessage/facetime off and back on to activate. When we got the iPhones my carrier said it could take 30 days to activate due to our numbers being ported. My 4s took less than 3 hours to activate imessage/facetime but my wife's 5 still hasn't activated. A few days ago we went back to our carrier to get a problem fixed with our regular text messaging and we informed of our problem with imessage/facetime and they told us the most it has taken to activate was 2 days. I know I can use an apple id/e-mail to use imessage/facetime but I want her number to show up. Also neither iPhone will remember our wireless network. Every time we leave our house and come back we have to go to settings and choose our network. Is there a way I can fix these problems and have her imessage/facetime activated and use her phone number and have our iPhones remember our wireless network?

  • IMac can see everything on wireless network except for internet

My iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 24" iMac running 10.5.8 has been perfectly fine for a couple of years. Suddenly it will not get an internet connection on the wireless network in our home. We have several other devices on the network that have no trouble using the internet. The iMac can access these devices via wireless, just not the internet.
When it's attached via a LAN cable plugged into the Airport (Dome type) the internet is fine.
    We're flumoxed.
    Any suggestions greatfully received.

    HI,
Try the information in the Airport Troubleshooting Guide and see if you can resolve the problem that way.
If nothing there helps click here for the Airport Extreme Base Station Setup Guide.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/AirPort_Extreme_Base_Station_Setup_Guidev4.2.pdf
Type Command + F on your keyboard. Then type in: Reset top right side of your Safari window just under your Bookmarks Bar then press return on your Keyboard.
Follow the instructions to reset your Airport base station.

  • Remembering a wireless network

I'm at a friend's house using his wireless network. It's WAP protected but he gave me his password. Is there a way to save his password on my PB so that every time I come over here I don't have to type it in?

First, create a new Location with your friend's WiFi as the "Preferred Network."
Create a new network Location w/Preferred Network
    - System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    - Location: New Location...
    - Name your new location: <enter a location name>
    - Click "OK"
    - Click on the "AirPort" tab to select it.
    - By default, join: Preferred networks
    - Select a "preferred" network from the list, or click "+" to add a new one.
    - Click "Options..."
    - If no preferred networks are found: Ask before joining an open network.
    - Click "OK"
    - Click "Apply Now"
Second, setup AirPort to default to the "Preferred Network."
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
    - Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
    - By default, join: Preferred networks
    TCP/IP tab
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off

  • IMac G5 not connecting to wireless network (Airport Express)

Hello. I recently made a shift to working-from-home and I have my iMac G5 to replace an older iBook. My internet connection repeatedly gets cut off during the course of the day. I actually called my ISP and ask them to run some tests and they told me all is fine from their end. I have 2 iBooks who can access our network without any glitches. It just happens to be my iMac who is suffering from this pesky little problem. The admin computer is actually my husband's iBook G4, which he leaves in his home office. I already made updates and ensured that software is current. Please, help!
    THANKS,
    funkymum of 'shwa

If his Mac is set up for Internet Sharing, then it might be possible that every time it goes into "sleep" mode is when you are losing the Internet connection.
I suggest that you double-check the settings on his Mac for Internet Sharing.
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wired to Wireless):
    Enable Software Firewall
System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
    - Click Stop to start the software firewall
    Setup the Network
    Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] Mac_#1 > (wireless) > Mac_#2
    Setup Port Order
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that "AirPort" and "Built-In Ethernet" are enabled.
    - Verify that "Built-In Ethernet" is at the top of the list, followed by "AirPort".
    - Click "Apply Now."
    Configure the Internet Connection
    System Preferences > Network > Show > Built-In Ethernet > TCP/IP
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Enable Internet Sharing
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet
    - Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet
    - To computers using: AirPort (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
    - AirPort Options
    -- Network Name: <anything you want>
    -- Channel: Automatic
-- Enable encryption (using WEP) (optional)
    -- Password: (optional)
    -- Confirm Password: (optional)
    -- WEP Key Length: (optional)
    -- Click OK
    - Click Start

  • My iMac will not display my wireless networks, any suggestions?

I have 3 wireless netowrks in my house. My iMac will only display the one that is for my home automation system and it is not connected to the internet.  Any suggestions on this?  When I click the wireless icon at the top it only shows 1 network, it won't display my other network or my neighbours networks.  When I try to add one of the other networks in my house, it will not find them.

  • IMac doesn't recognise keyboard (wireless and usb)

    Hi!
I've seen similar posts, but non had advice that helped. I'm having this problem for a weeks, before the problem everything worked perfectly. My Apple wireless keyboard start to act strange. I couldn't type some letters, so i put new batteries and still the same problem. When I type for example letter S it appears on screen as DS, the light on the shift key doesn't turn off when pressed. I have also tried to unpair it but now i can't even pair it with the computer any more.
I have bought A4tech KD-126 keyboard which was recognisable by the computer till first time i unplug it. After i tried to plug it in all usb ports, led lights on the keyboard are working but computer doesn't recognise it as a keyboard.
So I have tested other keyboard which my husband is using (A4tech KB-28G) and this only keyboard that works for now.
I want to make A4tech KD-126 keyboard working at least.
    Please Help!!

Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try the wired keyboard again.

  • Airport Express doesn't connect to wireless network after firmware update

    Hi,
I just updated the firmware on my Airport Express to 6.3 and now it will no longer join the network. I have tried reseting to the factory defaults and Airport Utility accepts all the information and shows the unit with a green dot next too it. However, the unit is still flashing amber and in the final step where the Utility tries to save the configuration the update fails and I get the following error message:
An error occurred while reading the configuration.
Please make sure your AirPort base station is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753).
I am using an old style AirPort Extreme as a base station.
    Can anyone help?

Wow, really no suggestions yet? This is a first for me, on the Apple Discussion boards!

    hi,
Whenever I tick "rememeber me" or "stay logged in" and revist the page, my log in credentials have been lost - at best the site will have my username/email but not my password - yet my macbook pro does store and use the relevant info - where and how in settings do I chnage this on my imac?

  • Macbook Pro Doesn't connect to Wireless network automatically

I just enabled WPA encryption on my router and now my macbook won't automatically connect to my router. I have to select my router in the wireless menu and then it joins. I don't have to type in my encryption key, I have my key stored in my keychain. Before I enabled encryption my macbook connected just fine. I'm have 10.4.11 and a D-Link DIR-655 router.

Could be a corrupt preference file. Not sure which one is relevent here. It may just come under the general Finder prefs. Have a look in User>Library>Preferences for anything wireless related. If nothing shows, try dragging com.apple.finder.plist to the desktop, then either relaunch the Finder or log out and back in. If no change just put it back and choose 'replace' when asked. If you find something more appropriate try that too. Not at a Mac right now otherwise I'd be a little more helpful.

  • IMac Desktop not seeing HP6500 on wireless network.

    The Background:
I am using OS X Yosemite Operating System (ver. 10.10.1) on an Apple iMac Desktop.  My home wireless network is set up correctly and is functioning fine as my iMac, TV and smartphones all can access my home WI-Fi network just fine.
I went into option 8 on the setup screen on the HP 6500 printer and put in the network name and password and the printer reported back that the connection to the wireless network was successful.
    The problem:
When I go to "Printers and Scanners" from the System Preferences on the iMac and try to add the printer, I select "Add a printer" and no printer is listed.
    How do I:
--Add the printer manually and/or add it via IP address?  How can I find the IP address for the printer when it is connected to my home wireless network?
    Thank you,
    Ron Nolan

    Hello RLN60 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with installing the printer to your Mac.
Seeing that no software driver package is available at this time for the Yosemite operating system, try downloading and installing the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
Let me know how you make out and if you have any other questions, feel free to write me back at any time.
    Cheers,

  • Want to create 2 wireless networks: b/g and n

I just had a wonky 1st gen time capsule replaced (my iMac also decided to need a total system restore as the thing was dying - cue total panic and a Backblaze subscription, and two external hard drives with redundant backups of family photos!).  What finally prompted the replacement was the total collapse of our wireless network - Airport Utility unable to pick up TC or AE, Apple TV couldn't see networks (all the data storage issues came just as I was about to put the replacement TC in), none of the computers would remember the wireless networks, constantly asking for passwords.
I was having a lot of the same set up issues with the new TC when I decided to set it to 802.11n only.  Problem solved. Instantly.  Worked perfectly.  I assumed I'd be running at n speeds as I *thought* all our devices were n.  I didn't realize our two iPhones (3G and 3Gs) were basically keeping us stuck in 2.4 territory.
Which left the problem of not having WiFi for our iPhones (which we'd  use a lot).  i realized I had an old b/g only AE.
So - I've set up the following:
DSL modem ethernet to TC (note the replacement is still a first gen - I can't do dual band)
    AE b/g ethernet to TC
TC created wireless network named Red
AE b/g created wireless network named Blue.  Only way I could get this to work was by putting it in bridge mode.  Otherwise it was ******** about ip addresses. This seems to work.
I also have a newer AE (802.11n) in my office upstairs which I use to boost signal and connect a printer.  This seems to drop in an out of even being visible in Airport Utility (which may have something to do with the fact that it's sitting next to the old TC which is s l o w l y erasing - maybe causing interference?).
I set this newer AE up to join existing wireless network Red.  Which it did fine...but it wanted to be in bridge mode too...which is NOT how it worked before (without the b/g AE wired to the TC).  What should the settings be on the newer AE?  I want it to be in the Red network (n) so we can share my office printer, etc.
    Any advice appreciated.

I noticed the massive improvement when I went to the 5GHz band, so I think I'd prefer to keep it there - I honestly don't care about the speed in n - it just seems that something - possibly even our fireplace, was causing so much interference at 2.4 GHz.
The 802.11n AX seems to be showing up fine now that my old TC has been packed in a box and sent back to Apple, so I think I've managed it.  Could the old TC have really interfered to that extent?  I also think the fact that I forgot to turn on the printer attached to the 802.11n AX might have been impeding my print performance on the network. LOL. Sorry to waste your time!
I probably don't *need* to extend the range of the TC - it's really more to enable printing (I know there are other ways to accomplish this - but this is a bit easier when our au pair - who uses a pc - wants to print).  The 802.11n AX is probably about 20ish feet away from the TC - would that present a problem in the 5GHz range?

  • New C310 - Wireless working FAIL - Printer's wireless network seems to be dead

    Product: HP Photosmart Premium C310
OS: Windows Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 64 Bit
    Error: Wireless working: FAIL
Changes: No changes since this is the first install of this printer ever
    Description:
I've just unpacked my new C310 as a replacement for my older HP Inktjet 3845.
But when trying to install the wireless network everything I try seems to fail.
Printer doesn't detect my wireless network (blue wireless led is blinking 1sec on - 1sec off )
HP Network test tool on my laptop (standing next to the printer to test it's location ) gives no issues whatsoever, wireless network is strong and working very well.
Settings of the wifi connection are WPA security, no WPS, Channel 11, ... .
When I run a Wireless Network Test report from the printer menu, the result is (= printout)
    * Wireless On => PASS
    * Wireless Working => FAIL
    * All the other points below are on status NOT RUN so no connection at all ...
    Solutions tested:
Tried to reboot printer while waiting 1 minute in between => No result
Reset to factory settings straight on the printer => No result
Tried to run the Wireless network Setup Wizzard several times without merit.
Explanations on the forums seemed to be that this might be a faulty wireless network card in the printer?
Since this is one of the reasons of buying this item, I do need it to work.
Can anyone provide me advice/next steps?
    Kind regards,
    Raf
