The fan on my imac constantly runs, it has only done this for 2 days now, but if using the mac or if its sleeping the fan wont stop

    Reset the SMC:
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • IMac G5 wont turn on, strange clicking sound

Brought my iMac home from work (where it was working fine). Plugged it in and it wont turn on. I hear a strange clicking like sound and then that stops. Help!

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You should try booting from the OS X install disc. Then open Disk Utility from the Utilities Menu (don't run the installer). I fear something has gone awry with your hard drive.
Let us know how you get on.

  • My Imac G5 wont turn on

Hi i need help, my computer is not working, it wont turn on?

Welcome to Discussions - can you be a little more specific - do you hear nothing at all when you turn it on?
    In that case,
    1. Turn off the computer by choosing Shut Down from the Apple menu, or by holding the power button until the computer turns off.
    2. Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
    3. Wait 10 seconds.
    4. Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.
    5. Let go of the power button.
    6. Press the power button once more to start up your iMac.
Let us know if that works.

  • Bondi Blue iMac 266 wont turn on at all.

OK, WELLLLLLL, i know you guys probably see this kind of thing everyday. i looked around the forum through all those "imac wont start" pages and none help. mine seems to be a different problem. ill try to give as much info as possible.
ok, i push the main power button, it chimes, HD spins up, everything seems just fine then click click click, and the whole thing goes off (no it doesnt boot up and monitor is just off, the whole thing goes off). if i remember correctly, the power light never turned green, and if it did it was for a short time. after it does this, pressing the power button does NOTHING, no noise at all.
i have 2 other identical macs so ive done a little experimenting (the other two work flawlessly) first i tried just swapping the computer out (not the board, the whole slide out thing, cdrom, hd logic board and all) that didnt work. while i had it out, i tried the computer part from the problem mac, in the other case (the one i knew worked) it worked, but when i installed some updates and restarted, it wouldnt come back on. it did the same as the other the power button did nothing, no noise whatsoever.
so im confused as ever. seems like both parts are broken haha, the crt part AND the computer.
blah, im gonna fiddle around with it a little more see what i can do.
any ideas??? (ALSO, it says 10.2 but honestly i have no idea what os this imac has, but im pretty sure its 9.1)
    iMac G3 (CRT) 266 MHz / 512K Cache/32 MB/ 6GB HD/24x CD-ROM/ RAGE PRO / 6MB SGRAM/ modem   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   Bondi Blue/Green W/E it is haha

ok well just to clarify it a little bit, i just took the board out unhooked it all removed battery memory, etc (not cpu though), put it back in, plugged it back up, hit the power button. it chimes, hard drive spins up, the light is orange the whole time, then right as the light turns solid green i hear a click and the whole thing goes off and wont turn back on. also, i tested the battery and i think its dead. would a dead battery cause all of this????

  • Intel Imac (2007) Wont turn on!

Hey guys, I've got a weird problem and I think I've tried all the troubleshooting solutions. My Imac won't turn on. It boots up and does the gong sound, then the screen goes black. I tried unplugging it, tried the command-option-p-r, tried removing and reinstalling the ram. It boots into windows with bootcamp no problem, but it won't go into Mac OS (Leapoard 10.5.5). Any suggestions? Please tell me I don't have to take it in or reinstall leopard!

    Hi,
have you got this sorted yet? I have a very similar problem with my intel iMac. It won't go any further than the white Apple screen and then the progress wheel spins and spins. Tried every boot key combination I can find, won't recognise (or boot up from) startup disk, my other (G4 iMac) won't launch it/mount it via Firewire. Have now used DiskWarrior five times but it seems to indicate no major problems... but the thing won't boot! Please let me know if you get any answers. I will do likewise.

  • HT1379 my fan wont turn off in y imac computer

Last night the fan on my mac came on and it never went off it has been around 16 hours and it is still on what should I do?

  • IMac g5 wont turn back on

Yesterday my iMac processor fan was spinning really loud so I shut down and I was going to give it a couple minutes to cool down. The fan stayed on for like a minute after it completely shutdown. When it was done, I tryed to turn it back on and nothing would happen.
It had stopped working before and I brought it into an Apple store. They replaced the motherboard and the power supply (so they told me) as it was eligible for repair under some recall thing. Shortly after I was upgrading the RAM and I noticed how poorly is was put back together. There was some missing screws and on the power supply there was three screws that was to hold it down but where just set in there and wherent tightened. It was clear it was poorly put back together and I wasnt that happy. I didnt make a fuss about it cause my mac was working again.
I put alot of money in to this mac and I dont need a new one. Its even running leopard! But it was just working fine less than a day ago and theres no reason I see that it shouldnt be working now. If this is because of what apple did to it when I brought it in for repairs then I want them to fix it back and do a proper job this time.
This mac needs to be fixed because its my main computer. It has all my music and pictures that I cant lose. Im a mac lover and after using this same computer both my sister and my brother bought macs. Im not going to go with anything else but this needs to be fixed.
If anybody knows what I should do or who I should call or someway to fix on my own without having to bring it back in to come back in even worse condition, any help will be appriciated. Thanks.

i forgot about this post. well my mac was fixed and im not happy about the service i received. i brought it into the apple store. they told me it was three year and a half years old so it wasnt covered under any warranty or repair program. they said they think its power supply and they would replace it and if it wasnt that they wouldnt charge for it. they called me a couple days later and said it was the logic board and it would cost $499. like 10/15 minutes after that they called again and said it was working and it was just the power supply. my brothers and my guess was they mixed up the original and new power supply and when they went to put the original power supply back in they put in the new one. ive yet to see good repair service from apple. maybe its just at this apple store. i dont plan to go back to that apple store. if i do go to another and get crappy service again i might not be buying from apple again.

  • Fans Wont Turn On

The fans on my macbook lately seem to not be turning on at all. My computer gets very hot and most of the time just turns off totally without any warning and it takes some tries to get it back on. I installed smc fan control to try and fix it and even when setting fan rpm very high they still dont turn on at all what can i do?

Try resetting your SMC and PRAM.
Resetting the System Management Controller >>
If that doesn't work, run your hardware tester. You may have a bad fan or sensor.

  • IMac fan wont stop spinning after Apple repair

I have just had my two year old iMac repaired by Apple it just needed a new optical drive, all seemed to be good until I brought it home and plugges it in.
Now the fan is spinning loudly and all the time from the moment I push the start up button.
Please help as this is very annoying, I have tried rebooting several times and removing all the power cables and holding the power button down as suggested but it still keeps spinning.
Should I take it back to Apple? It used to be silent all the time.
thanks in advance for any advice

Yes, sounds like they forgot to transfer, reconnect, or perhaps even damaged a thermal sensor or a sensor cable.

  • Imac A1224 wont turn on!

I recently went to visit my Grandfather and he had a Imac A1224, which used to run fine, but since he doesn't really understand how to use it he stopped using it for a very long time, I was the only one using it, but only when I visited him so the computer started to get slower, and some lines appeared in the screen. Then after a while I came back, and the computer didn't turn on at all... (He lives in a very very humid area near the beach, I don't know if this is relevant).
Since I cant turn on the computer, I have no idea of what software its using, but here are the specs that I do know,
    Imac 20"/2.4GHZ/1GB/320GB/SD/AP/BT
    Model No.: A1224
    Thank you!

    Hi, Hokey1001.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your Grandfather's iMac will not power on.  Here are a couple articles that will help your troubleshoot this issue.

  • Replaced Left Fan now fan wont turn on

I have a macbook pro 15'' Early 2009 (2.66 GHZ). I am running Lion (10.7.5) I recently replaced the left fan in my computer due to it not working well. My computer seems to run fine, however, the left fan will not turn on.  I double checked to make sure the connection was good, and it was. The fan was brand new, and did not seem to be damaged, and I cannot figure out what is wrong with it. I am out of my warranty, and would prefer to avoid taking my computer in to the apple store if possible, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I tried doing the thing to reset the SMC, there wasn't anything to signal that it reset, but I followed the instructions so Im assuming it worked.  didnt change anything.  Um for the logic board that is a possibility, but the old fan was on, it was just gradually running slower and slower until it was pointless to even use it as it would sometimes have trouble starting.  If I push it with my finger it doesn't spin very long, I think it might just need oiling, but it might be easier to just get this new fan working, if possible.  This new fan isn't running at all, or making any attempt to run.  Is there some way to tell if the logic board is working properly?

  • Fan wont turn off???

I installed Fan Control of my mac book pro right now and I didn't like it so I deleted it. I deleted it by right clicking on it in the system preferences window and clicking on remove. And then I did a SMC reset. But when I turned the computer back on, the fan is still running at full speed. How can I fix this?

Before removing Fan Control you should reset the fan speeds to their normal idle, then remove the program. Download Easy Find - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - and use it to search for the remainder of what Fan Control installs besides the preference pane.

  • Fan wont turn off...  mb slooow!

I bought my macbook about 6 months ago and it was super fast... up until about 2 months ago.. not sure what happened. Also around that time the fan started coming on for no reason at full speed. I called support and they had me empty my caches... i immediately noticed a difference.. at least with the fan. the mb is still noticeably slower that when i bought it.
my moms bf updated my memory from 2 - 4gb but i havent really noticed much of a difference.. still slow. and now my fan started coming on for no reason again i emptied my caches again and nothing.
I don't really do any downloading, i just use my computer for email, school, internet etc.. like everyother college kidd.
    any ideas?? im annoyed!!!

Going from 2 GB to 4 GB of RAM is not likely going to make any difference in speed unless you were running very RAM intensive applications which you are not according to what you said.
But to say the fan is running for no reason is probably not correct. The CPU is probably hot. The question is why.
Run Activity Monitor and select "All Processes" in the upper center of its window. Now select the %CPU tab just below that. This should show the amount of CPU usage of all the processes that the computer is using. Most of them should read 0. a very few should read a small number. If anything is reading over 10% continuously this can explain your fan being on. Report back here if and what items are using a lot of CPU and maybe we can get this straigthened out.
