My imac G4 Display LCD slowly moved to down always...

Hi! I have imac G4 17 LCD model but the LCD screen can't stay still and it always moved to down slowly. I try to find some screws but no luck. anyone know how can tighten the screen? cheers

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have a read of this thread. There are tools out there called Neck Tool and Neck Tool Pro but nowhere I've checked longer stocked them. If you can find them it will avoid a trip to your local Apple Authorised Service Provider.

  • Early 2009 24" iMac Haywire Display: LCD Panel or Logic Board?

    Hi,
My 24" display just developed severe vertical and horzontal lines, mouse trailing, color changing and flickering.  The problem begins as soon as the computer is turned on (even the Apple screen goes nuts).
When I plug in an external display, the external looks just fine.
This is one of the Nvidia GeForce 9400 chipsets, so there is no separate videocard board to replace - it is integrated onto the logic board.
It seems like it should be the display panel because the external monitor works fine, but these are complicated machines.
This is an iMac 9,1 Early 2009, Core2 2.66 Mhz machine.
    Thank you,
    Josh

Can you connect an external monitor and test? If the artifacts do not show on the external monitor, some component of the display is faulty but not the logic board. The dispay repair is not cheap but cheaper than replacing an LB
If the same artifacts show on both, well... it's the logic board.
AHT seldom picks up display faults.

  • Connecting 15" studio display LCD to MacPro

Do I need the DVI to ADC adapter to connect my "old" 15" Studio Display (LCD) to the MacPro?
Just bought the MacPro, upgrading from my G4 Powermac circa 2001. No one at the Apple Store mentioned needing an adapter even though I said I had an older display from 6 years ago. I am not happy to say the least. Partly went for the MacPro because I had this display, though small by current standards. Now another $100 I did not expect.
Any recommendations for displays...at a smaller price? Maybe I should have gone with an iMac....
    Thanks.
    Jen

Unfortunately hardly anyone stops to think that some older Apple displays used the ADC adapter. I bet half of the staff don't even know what an ADC connector is. Anyway, yes you will need the ADC to DVI adapter unless you can already convert your video signal to VGA. In that case you can then use the includes VGA to DVI adapter that was included with your Mac Pro.
Any recommendations for displays...at a smaller price?
You can try Dell. They often have specials which results in very cheap displays.
Maybe I should have gone with an iMac
My parents just bought iMacs (24" with 2.33GHz upgrades) and while they're very nice they can't come close to the performance of the Mac Pro, especially if you implement RAID 0. So while you might be a bit deflated over this just remember that you did buy a far better performing system.

  • MacMini to iMac 27" Display

Can I connect an older Mac Mini (approx 2007) to a new iMac 27" display - I am about to purchase one but in doing so will be removing the PC/LCD monitor...
So what options do I have or is this a non-starter?

Which is why I suggested that I need the newer product:
Note for iMac 27" users only: Even our box is capable of passing high resolutions up to 1920x1200, users of iMac 27" will only be able to get picture with resolutions up to 1280x720 (720P). The reason for it is that iMac 27" native resolutions are: 800x600, 1280x720 or 2560x1440 (since our box is limited to single link (1920x1200), and can't work with 2560x1440 it will take the next resolution down the list which is 720p. *We are working on AT-DP400 which will allow dual link resolutions (such as 2560x1440) to pass though*. For PS3 or Xbox users, you can use our converter without additional devices at only 720p resolution. Make sure to set 720p prior connecting it to the DP200.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running a program at the instance of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. There wiil be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." If that happens, please post the results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • Thunder Bug under iMac G5 display

A thunder bug has found its way in to my iMac and managed to get behind the display!!! It moved around for a little while but has since died and is now annoying the **** out of me as I have what looks like a line of dead pixels!!
Is there an easy way to open the iMac's display and remove the dead bug? I understand that opening up my iMac will nullify my warranty. Or is there a shop/service that I could contact to help me remove this unwanted visitor?
Any advise or similar accounts more than welcome...
    Cheers,

have you tried taking the back cover off? for instructions see: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/imacG5allModelsBackCover.pdf

  • A1081 Cinema Display LCD Monitor compatibility

I am about to buy a reconditioned A1081 Cinema Display LCD Monitor 20"? But i need to know if it will work with my MacBook Pro 10.5.8 and my ipad 2? As i am buying it to use at an exhibition. iIf so what adaptor will i need to hook both of these up? Thank you in advance.

Are you sure the monitor is set to receive input over the VGA input? Have you tried the DVI input on the monitor? You may have better luck with DVI.

  • IMac as display only??

My iMac recently died.  The apple care rep told me the mother board was bad.  The computer will still turn on, it just sits there with a spinning wheel on the gray screen.  Just out of curisoity, if I were to purchase a mac-mini, is it possible to use the iMac as a display only?  Or will it always have a spinning wheel, and I won't be able to use it as display for a mini?
    Just curious.
    Thank you for any replies,

That's not how you start from an installer disc:
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
    1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    2. Restart the computer.
    3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
    4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
    5. Wait for installer to finish loading.

  • Using iMac as display.

Has anyone had any experience with this? I ultimately want to get a PS3 and use my iMac to display it. It runs HD video from eyetv and downloads fine.

    I use one of these

but the input is composite (RCA connections) or S-Video. Not sure if that's what you are looking for.

  • IMac 24" display vs. 23" Cinema Display

I'm hoping to get a new Mac for graphic design at work. I'd love to get a tower unit and 23" display, but I may need to save the company money and go for the iMac with maximum RAM. At home, I have a 20" Cinema Display with my G5 and a 17" iMac (all just prior to Intel conversion). The iMac display doesn't look as good as the Cinema Display.
Can anyone tell me how the latest iMac 24" display compares with a 23" Cinema Display, as far as quality of what you see? Is the graphics card the determining factor?

I can understand your predicament. The 24" iMac is a wonderful machine, but the Mac Pro is a creative dream machine that many in the industry rely on day in and day out.
As far as the display quality between the two, they both carry the same standard Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT graphics card with 256MB of GDDR3 VRAM. So the quality of the graphics card should not matter much.
In display size, the iMac has the clear advantage with one extra inch, and to tell you the truth, I think the quality of ANY display apple puts in their computers is superb. I for one, have a 17" iMac Core Duo (Early 2006) as my desktop and I feel that the display is great.
Also look at the fact that the 2.33Ghz processor available in the iMac is really quite close to the 2.66Ghz in the Mac Pro, although you get twice the power in the tower machine.
Unless you do a lot of heavy graphic design processes everyday, I would save the office some money and go with the 24" iMac. It really is a great value for a graphic designer.

You have a LOT of crapware installed on your computer. I noticed:

              [running] com.trusteer.rooks.rooksd.plist Support
              [running] com.wdc.SmartwareDriveService.plist Support

Follow the developers instructions for each app and uninstall. Then restart in Safe Mode and then restart normally and retest.
OS X does not need third party apps to run well, and WD's software is total garbage and should be ignored. Their external HD's are pretty poor too, the enclosures WD uses tend to create a lot of issues with OS X. I would recommend buying higher quality EHDs, something like OWC Mercury Elite Pro series.

  • IMac to an LCD TV, Ahhhhhhh!!

    Hi
Sorry if you've read this but i posted it in the wrong forum earlier.
I have plugged in my iMac to an LCD TV using mini DVI to HDMI. Now is it possible to turn the iMac screen off and just leave the HDTV screen on?
If not this would be a great feature to have in 10.5 as increasing numbers of people have the macs in the longe, and it very annoying having the imac screen on whilst watching movies on the 32" lcd.
    many thanks, Ben

I don't believe there is a way. You can always cover the monitor with a towel or something similar. I have a cover made especially for my iMac from acmemade.
