MY imac G5 isight camera drops my video conversations

When ever I initiate a video chat with anyone I could never chat with them. A message appears that says, that I did not respond. But when the other party initiates a video chat, they can see me for like a few seconds and then the chat ends abruptly. What do I have to do to fix this or what does the other party have to do inorder to correct this problem
I can chat with only one person, and I think that's because he has the same system as me.
But with everyoneone else I have a proble.
Donna Marie:
Everytime I use Ichat with some one it tells me, "Disconnected from video chat because: No data has been received for the last 10 seconds." Why does it always do this. This program is awful.

When setting up the iChat session first set up the 'Connection Doctor' under the pull down menu so you can see if anything unusual is going on.
I had similar problems a couple weeks ago and found that it was my standalone Panasonic webcam that was hogging all of my DSL bandwidth. I had handed out the URL for my webcam to too many people and several were watching it when I had the problems. Shutting down the webcam solved the problem.

  • IMac 27': iSight camera is not working but it is recognized in Utilities

My iSight camera is not working. I'm sure it is not a hardware problem, because when I reinstalled MacOs Lion it worked for some time. I'm sure is a software problem. When I run FaceTime appears the message that "No camera is connected", also in Photo Booth is not working.

    (1) First, be sure connections and other issues from
here are eliminated as possible problem causes:
           • http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3544
    (2) Then, if Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
suggestions do not help you, (the "reset" suggested there
often restores normal function,) continue with the following.
    (3) Use Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
download and apply the 10.7.2 Combo Update:
         http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1459
    (4) Repair permissions again immediately following the
system restart that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct problems like yours.

  • HT1462 CAN I USE THE BUILT IN ISIGHT CAMERA TO RECORD VIDEO?

I recently purchased a new iMac and would like to know.

Apps already on your Mac that can do this:
    • QuickTime Player
    • Photo Booth
    • iMovie
    • iChat
If you need help, launch one of the apps and choose its Help meun item.
Other apps for different video record functions are available by using
your Mac's  > App Store... menu command.

  • IMovie 9.0.2 - iSight camera captures video but no audio?

I tried to add a video of myself by ticking the "camera" button and using the iSight camera.
The video is fine but there is no audio.
I have the internal mike selected in System Preferences and everything works OK if I use PhotoBooth to record.
But when I record from iMovie I get no audio.
Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

After a search I found a similar problem from 2 years ago but with no solution.
I then decided to trash the preferences and found 2 files which I trashed.
On restarting iMovie I was able to record audio from the iMac mike.
Only the second, larger file was replaced so I think the other may have been a remnant from iMovie 6.
Whether it was the presence of 2 .plists that caused the problem I do not know?
It may just have been a corrupt .plist.

i am looking for a messenger compatible with the built in isight camera, audio and video, and it needs to work with a @hotmail.com account. it is just for at home personal use but i really like talking (verbally) with my friends while they can see me. i am looking at mercury messenger because i saw that in another forum people said it worked, but i want to know before i download something i might not use.

    Welcome to Discussions, DillonR333
    (1) I am not certain exactly what you are trying to do because hotmail is email. If you merely want to attach a video clip to an email, your iSight can do that without mercury.
    (2) If you are looking for a video chat app that is compatible with the Windows Live chat server, consider the following:
Because Microsoft has apparently changed its protocols, the old Mac alternatives
(Microsoft Messenger for Mac, Mercury, and aMSN) will no longer connect for video.
    For more info, see: http://tinyurl.com/ycxnbpr
    (3) Any video chat apps, including the above, can work with your built-in iSight. If you think you iSight may be faulty, troubleshoot as recommended here:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
    (4) If you have problems video chatting even though your iSight works with Apple apps like QuickTimeX and iMovie, your problem is likely software. You will need to determine whether you are using the correct client app for the chat servers that your contacts use. Ask your contacts to tell you what computer, OS, and application they are using for video chat. From that info, we can determine which software you need to run to connect to the same chat server they are using.
    (5) If your problem remains although you have compatible client software and your iSight works with Apple apps, you may have a bad download or install of the software. You can try downloading and reinstalling again.
    (6) We will watch for your status update. If you need more suggestions, give as much info as you can about what you are trying to do and what you have tried that does not work. We will offer more specific suggestions based on the details in your reply.

  • Sharpness of iSight Camera

I am unhappy with the clarity of my iSight camera when sending video emails. I have tried sitting at various distances, but none of them are acceptable. I have used other cameras that are much better. Is there a way to adjust the focus of my iSight camera for a sharper image?
    Thanks for your suggestions!

    Hello Steeler Nation,
    And Welcome to Apple Discussion!
Sorry to hear your not happy with your isight. Just a couple of questions to clarify(no pun intended) what you are experiencing. You are using the iSight cam to record short clips and are then attching them to email?
    Have you tried more light?
Asuming so, you might try iGlasses found here:
    http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iglasses/
to see if that works on their free trial, but you also could have a possible focus problem.
If possible perhaps you could send me a short clip to demo what the clairty looks like. Or if not, additional details might help.
    Respectfully,
    Bill Gallagher

  • Missing video effects for iMac g5 w/ external iSight cam

I have a G5 iMac with an external iSight camera and I'm wondering why I do not have the option for video effects while using photo booth and iChat. My wife's macbook does include video effects, so my first bet is that Apple decided not to give me the option with my OS upgrade. Anyone have a way to remedy this without spending over 2K again?

DP, he has Photo Booth and Front Row, its the effects in iChat that he can't use, and I do think that's an intel function.

  • IMovie 6.0.3 does not recognize built in iSight Camera on new iMac

New iMac, Intel, OS 10.5.4, QT 7.5.
Built in Camera works with Photo Booth, the new iMovie 7.1.3 and iChat.
iMovie HD 6.0.3 or 6.0.4 does not recognize the camera. Opening a new project results in a No Camera Connected error. I have tried selecting various options in the video format drop down when creating a new project. I have repaired permissions, tried it under various users, removed the imovie plist, reinstalled imovie (both 6.0.3 and 6.0.4) without success. All 10 of the new computers are exhibiting this problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.

That is not an option that I can select on the imac's. On my iBook under 10.5.4 with iMovie HD 6.0.3 or 6.0.4 I can click on the triangle next to the camera icon and select the built in iSight camera. On the new iMacs that does not work. The built in iSight is not listed as an option.

  • MacBook White Built-in iSight Camera stuck on after 10.7.3 upgrade but not producing video

I upgraded today the OS of my iMac and MacBook from Lion 10.7.2 to 10.7.3. The iMac is fine but the MacBook is always having the iSight camera on (light is constantly green.) But no video is produced in Skype, FaceTime, and iChat. I rebooted several times with no results. The green light is always on. Any advise to solve this issue is greatly appreciated.

I updated three Macs to 10.7.3 with no trouble.  I credit ALWAYS using the Combo Update for my reliable updates:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484
If you have trouble later, try applying the Combo version.  Even if you are already using the same version, the Combo may fix your problem.
Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions before updating and again immediately following the system restart that completes the Combo update.

  • Is there a way to record video from the iSight camera

Running Mavericks on an early 2008 iMac. iMovie 08 says 'NO CAMERA CONNECTED." Recording from QuickTime Player no longer has a perference panel, and the videos recoded are jerky and sound is bad. I can't find any soluion on youTube - they all say just pick th iSight camera in iMove - which I can't. I thought maybe iMove10 bu the app store said my cideo board does no support it. Seems like there should be but I cannot find it. I don't want to have to buy Camtasia which is the only one that seems to work with the iSight input.

    Hi,
I would try a Safe Boot first.  (This will take longer than a normal Boot and you will need to Restart afterwards).
If it were an older OS I would also suggest going to System Preferences > Displays and making sure the display is set to Millions.  (My MacBook Pro does not have this option in Snow Leopard so I did presume Snow Leopard does not have it).
With some laptops there have been some issues with the cable up the back of the screen pulling loose with regular and frequent use of the lid, but this will not apply to you based on your specs.  (it does take time to appear and is also somewhat rare). However it seems enough contact with the camera can make it appear in System Profiler and power it on but not give a pic.
If a Safe Boot does not work I would also try a PRAM reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD (or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
This is actually "less" destructive in that it clears less memory items than Safe Boot but they are different enough to warrant trying.
Do you have an older version of iGlasses installed ?
The one for Leopard does not work for Snow Leopard.
Do you have  Web Browser open ?
This may point to  Google Video Chat Plug-in and Flash Conflict.  It would be rare to allow another app to access the camera even if not displayiong a Pic.
(Chrome Installs the Plug-in as does the standalone download).
Knowing  what "any application" exactly you are trying might help us pin it down.
Any additional downloaded  apps that can use the camera ?
Do you happen to have something balck in front of the camera ?

  • Using external isight camera with imac intel

is there a procedure to use my 'old' portable isight camera with my new imac intel?

i did some tests and here's how is is done:
plug in the FW external isight camera; open SKYPE and prior to calling on SKYPE; go to preferences.; go to 'video' and there NOW two selections 'built-in isight' and 'isight'; select 'isight' and that will be the camera you will using once you make the SKYPE call; HOWEVER if you want to switch back to the 'built-in isight' you have to 'hang up'; go back to preferences and select 'built-in isight' and re-make the call. BTW Apple care in the far far east was next to no help. maybe apple care will read this post and then THEY TOO will have the answer.

  • Built in iSight Camera - Video Grayed out

Just got a brand new smokin' iMac yesterday but I'm having trouble with the iSight camera that is built in. The video I see is all grayed out. Help!
    Bonnie

Check if you can see the lens, it might still be covered. The iSight is placed in the middle on top of your screen. Make sure the iSight has a clear view.
If you have iChat already up and running click on the camera icon next to your name in the buddy list.
Have a look at [this|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1462] brief tutorial that explains how you can use your iSight.

  • Built In iSight camera has stopped working on 27 inch iMac and 27 inch LED.

The camera's on my 27 inch  i7  imac and 27 inch cinema display all of a sudden just stopped working. I checked in the system profiler, and both show that
they are connected. When I try video chat in iChat the green light comes on and connects like it's a one way video chat... when I try and switch to the display monitor's iSight the green light switches to the other monitor, but the camera is still black... I tried this with Facetime, Skype, and Photobooth, all nothing... Any insght into this would be great. I'm thinking that it could be an internal hardware problem with the machine... Logic or Motherboard....
    Any info would be helpful
    thank you

    Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
