My imac intel won't install the installation cds correctly.

I have the white imac intel computer and I tried to reinstall the installation cds that came with the mac because my computer for whatever reason started going slower and slower. The thing is when I tried to reinstall the cds, the first cd did not install correctly. For some reason the first cd counted down the time from 64 hours, it took two days and when it was finished I got a black screen and a lot of error messages. Something about the DNS server, the airport driver isn't installed, and something about the local?. Everytime I try to install the first cd it want start up and it tells me to install the second cd and when I try to install the second cd it won't install. The blue line only goes so far and then it just hangs there and I get more error messages. Is there a way to reinstall the first cd to correct the problems without the computer telling me to take the first cd out and insert the second cd? Or is there something I can do to fix my imac so it will work again?

Hi Evie, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Power down the iMac with #1 Install disk in the drive.
Bott up while holding the d key down at boot-up and run the extended Apple HW Test first.
If we still can't boot from the Install disk, Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
Where are we now?
We have some serious corruption on the HD, so we're going to try to get it to boot off the #1 disk to fox that.
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Then Safe Boot off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.
Safe Boot... holding Shift key down at bootup.

It's possible that you need new drivers from HP, in order to be compatible with OS X 10.8.3. Looking at HP website, they haven't released new drivers since last November. You might need to wait for new drivers or contact HP to push for an update.

  • My iMac G5 won't continue the start-up process

My iMac G5 won't continue the start-up process, it goes through the gray screen with the Apple to the blue screen after a short while the fans go on and it goes no further.
I'm not sure what to do at this point.

There are a number of things to try:
    Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
    Resetting the PRAM
    Resetting the SMU
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    4. Release the power button.
    5. Attach the computers power cable.
    6. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
It's possible your logic board has failed, you can also run Apple Hardware Test which should be either on your install disc #1 or #2, hold down the D key to run it.
    Please post back with results,

  • My MacBook won't install the software

My Macbook Pro won't install the software

It has been months since you asked for help.  This worked for me:
I installed Apple Software Installer Update by itself and it installed.  Then I tried to install each update one by one.  I noticed my Safari update and Security Update 2013-14 were not installing like the others so I waited to install them after I did all the others.  Also, after I noticed that those two updates were giving me problems, I excluded them and was able to update all the other updates at once.
Safari and Security Update were the only two left. I was able to update them.

  • My new iMac 10.7.3 rejects the installation disc for Microsoft Office 2011. What shall I do?

My new iMac 10.7.3 rejects the installation disc for Microsoft Office 2011. What shall I do?

A little more description would help. What exactly do you mean by Rejects the disc? Does the DVD drive eject the disc shortly after inserting it?
Does the Office installer say something, like can't install on this Mac?
If the Office disc is ejected shortly after insertion try cleaning the disc. Try another DVD disc of any type to see if it is the Office DVD or if the drive ejects all discs.
If it ejects all DVD or CD discs then the drive is bad and you ned to Return your new Mac fro a Full Refund and then buy another NEW unit.

I have a macbook and I'm having trouble backing up my pictures on an external hard drive.  The Macbook won't install the backup drive soft ware? It is a new Sea Gate hard rive from costco.

You don't want to install the software that came with the drive, you don't need it and it will be problematic. Connect the new drive, open Disk Utility, select the new drive and partition it using the GUID partition scheme, then format it as Mac OS extended journaled and it will be easy to use with your Mac.

  • I'm having trouble with my computer, I boot it up and within a few minutes it freezes and I have to restart it, I tried updating it to the latest mavericks but it won't finish the installation it's stuck at the end, what can I do to fix this?

As stated I'm having trouble with my computer, I boot it up and within a few minutes it freezes and I have to restart it, I tried updating it to the latest mavericks but it won't finish the installation it's stuck at the end, what can I do to fix this? I need it for homework tonight.

    Crowntheme,
you can try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it still freeze after a few minutes?

  • Restored iPod, and it won't install the 5.0 update. What can i do?

I restored my ipod for the most recent update from 4.0 to 5.0 and it won't install the software, it just keeps freezing at exactly the same point each and every time.

At what stage does it freeze?  What is showing in the status bar?
    This may be applicable:
Hang during restore process: Following Troubleshooting security software will frequently resolve this error. This error can be caused by the default packet size being set incorrectly. There may be third-party software installed that modifies the default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize or MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entry into the Registry. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance in adjusting this TcpWindowSize values. Typically the default packet size is modified by 3G cellular network card software, ISP communication software, or Internet speed download optimization software. There are legitimate reasons to change the TCP/IP packet size and not use the Windows default settings (for example, network traffic optimization, home/broadband optimization, enterprise app optimization such as database apps, Exchange, and more). Deleting the "TcpWindowSize" or "GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize" entries in Windows Registry could affect the system's performance with other apps or on their network connections. Deleting the customized TCP/IP settings may require the reinstallation of any third-party applications that had modified the TCP/IP settings from the Windows default settings.
There are two ways to resolve this:
You can follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) , or follow the steps below to manually find and remove TcpWindowSize and MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entries from the Registry.
For Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7: Go to the C:\\Windows folder and launch regedit.
    Go to Edit > Find.
Search for "TcpWindowSize" entries. There are typically multiple entries of TcpWindowSize/GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize spread throughout the entire Registry. If "TcpWindowSize" exists, one or more third-party applications have changed the user's default Windows settings for TCP/IP.
Go to File and select Export. This step will export a copy of the Registry that can be used as a backup of the original settings.
    Delete the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
Search for the next "TcpWindowSize" entry and delete each one until the Registry no longer has any "TcpWindowSize" entries.
Close Regedit, restart the PC, and test.
If you are uncertain as to why these registry entries exist and the PC is a business computer, contact your network administrator and determine what values TCP/IP can be set in their Windows Registry setting so that the PC can update or restore an iOS device rather than deleting the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
If editing the registry does not resolve the issue, restoring on a different computer that did not install the communication software is the step most likely to resolve this issue.

Connect your iPad to your computer and run iTunes. Select your iPad in iTunes and try to run the update there. Updating requires a lot less free space on the iPad when updating through iTunes on a computer because the update files will be downloaded to and extracted on the computer.
