My iMac is conflicting with my Comcast router

Hi, I have a new Comcast connection that's driving me crazy.  All other devices (including a PC laptop, wireless printer, iPhone and MacBookPro) on the network are trouble free, but the iMac keeps loosing connectivity with the internet intermittently.
The iMac shows that it's connected the the wifi signal but will sporadically loose internet connectivity.  I can connect to other open networks in my building and maintain those connections indefinitely without trouble but this comcast router doesn't seem to be happy with my iMac.  When I run diagnostics it never seems to show the disconnect (telling me that all connections are active and healthy), but when I look at the router's roster of connected devices it doesn't show the iMac as one of them.  The sporadically it will reconnect and operate without issue for anywhere between 5 minutes and 2 hours before repeating the same cycle.
I spent some time on the phone with Comcast's tech support and they suggested I replace the integrated router/modem as they believed it was a hardware issue.  Just finished doing that today and the issue persists.
Thoughts?

Hi Donald,
I was able to change the channel to 11 from 1 (I was only offered 1, 6 and 11).  It hasn't changed the problem.
Did you also reset the router?  If so, try the following:  Repair permissions, restart your computer & recheck your router channel settings.  Problem still exist?
If you have AC, I would give them a call.

  • Does an IMAC desktop come with wi fi router built in or do I need to purchase and connect one?

Does an IMAC desktop come with wi fi router built in or should this be purchased separately?  My brother recently bought a new IPAD mini and we don't know how to connect it to wi fi.  He has a fairly new IMAC desktop.

No. It comes with a Wi-Fi card for connecting to a router. First, you need Internet service in your household either from cable or DSL. The provider installs a modem or a modem/router. In the case of the former you need to provide the router. In the case of the latter you do not. But a router is needed to create a wireless network in your home.

  • Do I need my Airport Extreme with my Comcast router?

    Hi all,
I have an Airport Extreme - it's about four years old.
I also have Comcast Xfinity, but will likely switch to the business service - 75mb down, 15mb up. I just bought a Mini to use as a server for our home and business use.
Here's my question:  Should I be using the Airport Extreme at all?  I thought about buying the newest model, as I'm sure it's much faster. I have two computers connected through the AE using Ethernet, and I am not sure if I can do that with the Comcast box (can't look right now)
Any advice for me?  Thanks in advance.
    Hugh

Thanks for the pictures and link to the Arris manual.
You wrote that your Extreme is about four years old. If it is a dual band model that was first produced in March, 2009 it conveys the advantage of its ability to simultaneously create both 2.4 and 5 GHz wireless networks, while the Arris can only create a 2.4 GHz network. 2.4 GHz can be crowded and is susceptible to a variety of other interference whereas 5 GHz is less so. On the other hand, the Arris has a battery backup feature which enables its use, if only for a few minutes, during a power failure. The Extreme's LAN ports are also Gigabit - it's not clear if the Arris's are.
Therefore, each one has its advantages, but technically you do not need an Extreme unless your 2.4 GHz wireless performance is unacceptable, if you want to use the Extreme's "Guest Network", its Gigabit ports, USB / hard disk sharing, or its other attractive features. A genuine Apple AirPort Base Station is also required to fully implement some features particular to Mountain Lion, such as the ability to wake a sleeping Mac and use it remotely over the Internet. In addition to those, the current production model conveys the new 802.11ac wireless protocol which may become more important as wireless devices continue to proliferate.
The decision to upgrade your Extreme would be justified if you require any of those features, but if your network needs are satisfied with your current equipment, there is no pressing need to change anything.

  • 10.4.11 Update conflict with Netgear wireless router

I downloaded the 10.4.11 update, and now I can't access my comcast email. I can surf the internet and access everything else, but when using my Netgear wireless to connect, no email. I can connect and access it elsewhere using other wireless routers. Any thoughts or similar experiences?

I hate when people do this and feel bad, but . . . I have a Netgear WPN824v2 and have not had problems with wireless connections and or retrieving mail.
I would not be surprised that the Location profile is damaged in someway since you can connect and function on other wireless networks. This type of problem I have never heard of and it kinda makes no sense. Now if you were completely locked out and couldn't surf, then I would suspect the router. But since you can surf . . .
Try making a whole new Location Profile and see what happens. And/or try to track down any differences in the connection setups for the working wireless' and see that are any differences that the OS upgrade could have changed.

  • Can AE get in conflict with my wireless router when AE is joining?

The problem is that the sound drops out after about 10-60 seconds. I also loose my Internet connection as well as a yellow light on the AE is starting to blink. After about a minute or so it reconnects automatically, but when I start playing music again the same thing is happening..the sound drops out! Any clue why this is happening? I use WEP secure my wirless network.

Does your router support any other form of encryption? See if this KB article makes any sense to you.
AirPort: Joining an encrypted wireless network
Personally, I have a sneaky suspicion it has to do with the way your ASCII/hexadecimal password is or isn't being converted to something recognisable by the router. I use a Linksys router at home with a hexadecimal password generated from an ASCII passphrase, and that seems to work fine.

  • IMac keyboard conflict with iPad

When I connect my iPad to back of the iMac, my keyboard ceases to function. When I checked the system profiler, i noticed that everytime i plug in the iPad, the apple keyboard connected to a USB high speed gets replaced by the iPad. The keyboard could no longer be detected. How can i fix this?

I had many errors trying to sync to my PC (xp) and found out that the problem was that the computer daylight savings option was disabled. Just enable it and restart iTunes, then connect the iPad without sync errors.
    Cheers!

    OK, let's try these................
1 - Boot up from your install DVD and run "Repair Disk" from the Utility menu.  When done, restart back to your desktop, repair permissions and restart your computer.  Re-connect your printer.
2 - Download & install the Gimp drivers. Make sure the one you install is compatible w/your OS-Gutenprint 5.2.8-pre1.   Repair permissions, restart your computer & re-connect your printer when done.
The Epson model I have, in order to get it to print wirelessly, I had to install a Gimp driver.
3 - Check out the following KB Articles:
Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Connecting to a network printer
Epson Printer Drivers v2.10 OS X
Adding a printer to your printer list in Mac OS X
Mac OS X 10.4 Help: The printer I'm adding says "Driver not installed"
    ======================
If still unsuccessful after trying all of the above, the problem could be your iBook or human error.  You can either call Epson & ask to speak with a Mac savy supervisor or return the printer & find another that is compatible w/your current OS.

  • Can I use Airport Express with Comcast router and Apple TV?

I want to connect my iPod Touch (version 8.1.2) to a home stereo wirelessly.  I am considering getting an AE Base Station.  I have a Mac mini running OSX 10.9.5 connected wirelessly using a Comcast router.  I also have an Apple TV, which I have not yet connected to my TV.  Here are some questions.
Are there any problems with doing this.  In particular, can I continue to use the Comcast router?
Also, I have seen some comments saying that the cable modem slowed down when AE was added.  Is that true?  Thanks,
    Owen

The stereo doesn't have wireless (or bluetooth).
My understanding is that the iPod Touch has a built-in airplay transmitter.
If so,  connecting the AE Base Station to my stereo would allow sending music from my iPod to my stereo.
    Is that correct?  Thanks.

  • Activating Mail account on iPhone causes conflict with Mail on iMac

I've been using my iPhone 4 to send/receive work e-mail via our Exchange server with no issue. However, when I tried to set up my phone to send/receive my home e-mail (provided by Cox Communications), it immediately caused a conflict with Apple Mail on my iMac. When I launch Mail on the iMac, I'm informed that the account is in use on another device and I need to work offline. I'm leaving for a 2-3 week trip and would really prefer not to have to log into the Cox webmail app all the time.
Is there a way to avoid this conflict and still enable me to get home e-mail on my iPhone?
BTW - I've contacted Cox and they've informed me that they provide no advanced e-mail support for any e-mail applications used by Macs.

As already provided, this is a POP account limitation that doesn't apply to an Exchange or IMAP account.
Although it is possible to access a POP account with more than one email client, a POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only. Only one email client at a time can communicate with the incoming mail server for a POP account - to check the account for new messages and/or download new messages available at the incoming mail server. When a 2nd email client attempts to check the account for new messages while another email client is doing the same or while another email client is downloading new messages available at the incoming mail server, the incoming mail server will temporarily lock out the 2nd email client from communicating with the incoming mail server.
Not a problem with an Exchange or IMAP account which are designed to be accessed by more than one email client with the ability for more than one email client to be accessing the server for the account at the same time.

  • Send music from itunes with comcast router

I recently moved from DSL to Comcast cable and with the new service received a Comcast modem/router. I would like to send music from iTunes to my Airport Express which is connected by a cable to my stereo. Everything worked fine until I received the Comcast router. I can configure the Airport Express to recognize the new network and it connects wirelessly so that I can stream music for about 30 minutes or so. Then it drops and I have to reconfigure the Airport Express. Also, the green light on the Airport Express always stays on even after iTunes is unable to connect.
I am running Windows 8. Thanks.

You'll probably have to convert to mp3 format if the files are not already that type.
Then you need to use a peice of 3rd party software to send them to the Samsung.
Despite these two big companies working together for displays etc, Samsung refuse to licence the code to allow direct transfer from Mac to portable device.
Sending Music via Bluetooth is always a bit hit and miss.  I would try a usb cable, and enable mas storage on the Galaxy if it's possible.  The search for the music folder and drop the files there.

  • Linksys Wireless Router Conflicting with Wireless Keyboard and Mouse?

I am getting ready to purchase a Linksys Wireless-N Router with a PCI Wireless-N Adapter (2). Will I have a conflit with my Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse? I have two home computers that I want to set up with a wireless router. Should I use a Linksys Wireless-N Home Router or a Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router? Which Wireless-N PCI Adapters should I use?

No you should not have a problem with the router conflicting with the wireless keyboard/mouse.  They are on a different frequency all together from the wireless router.

  • Imac i7 unable to connect to router at 270mbs on DGN2000

    Hello,
I have a Netgear DGN2000 router and i decided to switch the speed settings from 130Mbs to 270Mbs, but after doing so my imac was unable to connect. I tested my windows based laptop and that was working fine. I switched back to 130Mbs and it connected.
I've checked the Network utility and the Link speed is currently at 54Mbs (not even 130Mbs).
Airport is compatible with Draft N speed but why is my Imac not even connecting to the router when i select 270Mbs, any suggestions?
    Many Thanks

Wireless connection speeds (or lack thereof) are a bit difficult to figure out; for instance: do you have anything else that is using the network which still only works with the earlier slower "g"? Usually the network will only work as fast as the slowest (weakest) link. How far is the iMac from the router and are there any obstacles in between (walls, ceilings, anything metal, appliances, etc). And, who is your ISP, how old are the cables they are using from their hub to your house, is there a splitter?
After almost 2 years of mediocre speeds with Comcast, it was finally determined that a) their cable from the box to the house was defective and replaced and b) they supplied a new splitter. At the same time, I replaced all the Cat5 cables with Cat6 and got a new router (Netgear WNR3500) and haven't had a problem since.

  • IMac cannot cannect to internet through Router

    Hello,
I have an iMac G5, latest OS Tiger, Windows XP PC, Linksys WRT54Gv5 wireless broadband router, and DSL modem. The PC connects to the Linksys router, along with the DSL Modem. The iMac is connected wireless to Linksys router. I have no problems sharing documents, but the iMac will not access the internet. What is wrong?
    Thanks!

See the appropriate link below for your broadband provider. Sometimes it helps to reset the router pressing in the Reset button on the back of the router for at least 30 seconds while the router is powered on and starting the configuration from scratch.
Setting up a Linksys router for DSL Internet connection
Setting up a Linksys router with Cable Internet service
If using AT&T DSL, depending on the modem used there may be a conflict between the AT&T DSL modem an the Linksys router. This occurs if the modem tries to hand out the IP address 192.168.1.1 to the router's WAN/Internet port. If this is the case, log into the administration page of the Linksys router and change the Local IP Address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1, save the settings, then power cycle both the router and any clients connected to the router.
