my iMac is looking for wireless keyboard but I have a usb and it is plugged in. Right now I am using the one from my old computer. This happened once before and I unplugged/plugged in, restarted. Didn't work. Repeated several times, it finally worked. This time not so much. Any one else have this problem and know how to solve it?

Try turning off Blue Tooth in its respective preference panel. Do not try using the USB keyboard in a USB extender. Connect directly to the computer.

IMAC 10.6.8 error message: batteries wireless keyboard, but I have a numeric keyboard

I use a numeric keyboard, originally a wireless, but for a yr now a numeric. I get an error message: my wireless keyboard needs new batteries or will turn off automatically; I'm at 15% now (left).
I also get a rolling earth ball when i first power up, eventually getting to desktop.

If you are not running any BT devices try turning it off: System Preferences>Bluetooth and uncheck 'on'.
If you are using BT for other devices try deleting the entry for the old BT keyboard.
For the slow boot-up problem have a look at System Preferences>Starup Disk, select 'Macintosh HD, Mac OS X, 10.6.8' and restart. Sometimes the Mac struggles to find a start-up disk and this re-establishes the link.

I was sold the Adobe suite for a Mac but I have a PC and I didn't find out until after registration.

I spent 3 years saving money for the adobe production suite to which I finally bought it and already registered the product to whicH I just found out that the product I was sold was for a Mac not a PC. it is urgent that i find out how to change these settings otherwise i will be forced to make a complaint. I have never had to make these questions previsouly and never had i had this much trouble just trying to recieve an email to fix the issue

How did you contact iTunes support, and you've checked your spam as well as your Inbox ?
If you have a rescue email address set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.

My IMac has stopped seeing the keyboard. I have changed the batteries and the green light comes on saying it is looking to pair with the IMac but without success. I am left with the IMac switched on and I am unable to enter a password.

I have been using my IMac without a problem when I left it and went back to enter the password the IMac did not see the keyboard. I have changed the batteries and the green light comes up on the keyboard and then starts to flash indicating it is looking for the IMac but nothing happens. I have tried another set of new batteries with the same result. Is there any known problems in this area. The IMac is 5 months old.

I would think you'd have to change the language to British English to get the pound sign. THat or turn off your wireless keyboard and get the pound sign from the on screen keyboard, then turn your wireless board back on.

So Opt(alt) on the Mac should map to Alt on PC.
It would actually be helpful if the OP told us waht the shortcuts were meant to do...

Try turning off the keyboard for a minute then turn it back on.
If that doesn't help, remove the keyboard from System Preferences > Bluetooth
Then re "pair" the keyboard to your Mac.

I am not able to see the entire post that you leave, unless I look at it on my phone (email)--I am so sorry. You have no idea how much i appreciate your help. Yes, I see that I can get the later version of OS software, but its not availabe for immediate download. My only options appear to be having it shipped, or going to the store to purchase. Why is my mac mini server apparently looking for wireless while I hold option at startup?

Besides the Lion recovery partition on my Mac Mini, I have 2 partitions: One with Lion and one with Snow Leopard Server that I often boot from in order to test some things. However, it takes FOREVER at the gray screen while I hold option, until the various startup disks appear.
There is a spinning wheel next to a popup menu button, and the wireless symbol. The Mac Mini is apparently looking for wireless for some specified time, then finally gives up and says, "Ok, here are your disk partitions." This is very annoying, and I would like to know what it is, and how to turn it off. My Mini is plugged into Ethernet.

Might try a variation of this from older OSes...
This command adds a delay, in this case 45 seconds, before displaying the Login Window.
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow StartupDelay -int 45
If the Login Window UI detects that the network servers are available when it starts, it will skip the delay, also if network servers become available before the delay expires, the Login Window UI cancels the delay and displays.
