My imac is showing either a No Entry, Flashing globe or Flashing Finder/?  icon.

Hi,
When using my imac the other day, the screen went blank with a flashing Finder/? logo. I have switched it off numerous times but I am always met with either the flashing Finder/?, a spinning globe or a No Entry Sign. It will not allow me to do anything at all.
I looked on some of the Help Forums and they suggested:
1) Installing the original OS Disc 1 that came with my mac
2) Switching off the mac
3) Switch it back on whilst holding down the "C" key
This then brought up the menu for the installer menu. In this menu I can:
1) select a language to use
2) Agree to the Terms and Conditions of the License
The "Select a Destination" Box appears but it will not let me Select a Destination. No icon appears in the box at all. I have tried pressing "Go Back" and then "Continue" but it still will not let me select  a destination.
I can access the utilities menu from the installer screen. I cannot access any menu from the apple logo. The Original Discs that came with my imac are Mac OS 9.2. I cannot remember or find out what version OS I was running before this happened.
Please Help. I have EVERYTHING on this Mac.
Thanks.

Still no joy with anything I try. I ran a Hardware test and an Error Code 25TF/1/4 Mass Storage has been detected. This could mean the Hard Drive is knackered or I have a dodgy Logic Board.
If so, will I be able to retrieve anything that was on my mac?
Would it be worth buying and installing a new hard drive/logic board?
Considering my mac is 5 years old should i just forget about it and get a new one.
So many questions and no answers!!!!!
Thanks.

  • Flashing finder icon and showing "don't restore windows" and "restore windows" text box

hi, i hav problem with the flashing finder icon and showing "don't restore windows" and "restore windows" text box. im using macbookpro MAC OS X 10.7.5. i've search for solutions, lik relaunch the finder by pressing COMMAND+ALT+esc, but it didn't work for me...
    any1 can help me, thx...

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • My Intel iMac only shows a blinking folder with a question mark when powering it up. What can I do besides running the hardware test of the original installer disc.

My Intel iMac only shows a blinking folder with a question mark when powered up.
I did run the hardware test of the original installer disc and no trouble was found and I am out of options. Does anybody have any advice what to do next

If the drive shows errors then repair, if after the 3rd pass of Repair Disk in Disk Utility it still shows errors it's telling you it's time to be replaced. Take it to your local Apple Store or AASP for repair, when it comes back use your backup (either Time Machine or bootable clone) to restore so you can pick up where you left off.

  • My Imac is showing gray screen with red line when booting and restarts again

My Imac is showing gray screen with red line when booting and restart again, I can load it in windows 7 safe mode with red lines across the display, pls help

The graphic card is damaged. You can't do anything more than taking your computer to an Apple Store or reseller and getting your graphic card replaced.
Sometimes, when the graphic card is damaged, operating systems can't start. That's caused because the drivers that make the graphic card work detect an error, telling the operating system that the graphic card is unusable, so the operating system can't start and it restarts. However, you can start in safe mode because operating systems use a basic driver in this startup mode

  • When I turn on my iMac, it shows a black screen and says 'No bootable device - enter boot cd and press any key'.  Not sure how to fix this.

When I turn on my iMac, it shows a black screen and says 'No bootable device - enter boot cd and press any key'.
I'm not sure what to do, I did not recieve a cd with my mac to boot it up (I ordered it online).
Also I can't find my harware serial number (I've tried many times to input what I thought it may be from my receipt).  I saw that I need this number to contact apple support, my 90 day complimentary support is still valid so I wish to contact them.
I don't know much about apple products as this is my first apple computer so any information is helpful.

Hold down the Alt/Option-key at startup of your iMac to get the Boot Selection screen.
From that choose to boot into OSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and reset your OSX to be the default.
The new iMacs have OSX 10.7 Lion preinstalled and don't come with any CD/DVD anymore.
Instead OSX Lion includes a new feature called "Lion Recovery".
Have a read here About Lion Recovery

Get Rid of that Software... it is Not Needed... and likely the cause of your issue.

  • In report, there is a formula which shows either values or blank

    Hi,
In BW report, We have defined formula to calculate some SLA%. In the output of the report, SLA% shows either some value like 10% or 50% or blank.
But user wanted to see values and zero instead of blank. is it possible? if yes how, please explain me steps.
Thanks a lot in advance and your response is appreciated with good rating.
    Regards,
    Varun

    Hi Varun,
For testing the Formula, please break up the Formula into diff CFK's
    like (A+B/C)*D/100
    So make it as
    1)A+B=CKF1
    2)CKF1/C=CKF2
    3)CKF2*D=CKF3
    4)CKF3/100=CKF4.
Check for division by Zeros error in the CKFs,else use NODIM function everywhere.Plse be careful with the bracketing().
and then try as to where it is going wrong also try it out in an excel sheet also and Compare both.It shud match, else ur missing something.
For Blanks as Zeros Make the necessary setings in Q.D

Sometimes when starting up my iMac it shows only a folder icon with a question mark in it. Nothing happened. Only when start up again it runs ok.
What can be the cause of this.

That's an indication your Mac can't find a system folder to boot from.
Open System Preferences > Startup Disk
    Select:  MacintoshHD OS X
For OS X v10.4, v10.5, and v10.6 >    A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Helps when you ask for help to tell us which Mac OS X is installed.
If you aren't certain, click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
    The version is noted there.

  • My IMac is showing two vertical yellow liness

My IMac is showing two vertical yellow liness

It is a hardware problem with the monitor (most likely).
You need to take to an Apple Store or Authorized Repair Center and have them give you an official diagnosis.

  • How can I get my iMac to show videos, such as those on YouTube, again?

How can I get my iMac to show videos, such as those on YouTubes, email, AOL, and others, again.

OK. What happens when you try?
Have you updated your Flash to the latest video? Worth trying again, just in case you haven't.
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Click Install Now, download, and run the installer from your Downloads folder. Make sure you install it all the way (it'll ask you to quit Safari). Then re-launch Safari and try the video sites again. If that doesn't work, download and run Firefox, and try there - let us know if one browser works and one doesn't.

  • When I updated by iphone with IOS7, my calendar entries did not follow the icloud.  I am only showing pre set calendar entries for the year?

When I updated by iphone with IOS7, my calendar entries did not follow the icloud.  I am only showing pre set calendar entries for the year and lost all other calendar entrie and it will not take any new entries.  They show up in my outlook, but not on my iphone, which they did before I updated my software to the new i0s7

Before syncing, select each calendar on your Mac and back it up by going to File>Export>Export.  If anything goes missing, you can use these to restore your calendars.
Have you tried simply force closing the calendar app on your iPhone?  To do this, double-tap the home button, locate the calendar app, then swipe up on the image above the app icloud to close it and tap the home bottom.  Then test your calendar again.

  • Why does my imac g5 show a folder in the middle of my screen that loads

HElp my imac g5 shows a blue folder in the middle of my screen that flashes to the finder logo then back to a question mark and back and forth PLEASE HELP this computer has all my files on it and everything i need answers this is my life

It means it can't find the hard drive. Get your original gray install disk, insert disk and reboot holding the "C" key until you get the OSX screen. Open Disk Utility and do a Repair Disk on the hard drive. If that works then also do a Repair Permissions. If the Repair Disk doesn't work your hard drive may have failed. My assumption here is you haven't been doing regular backups. If your drive has failed you may have lost all your data.
