You need to install more RAM.
Your year and model IMac can take a total of 6 GBs of RAM.
Correct, compatible and reliable Mac RAM can ONLY be purchased from online RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
The 6 GB RAM kit can be found here.
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo_PC2-6400
If you haven't use this application often, completely uninstall CleanMyMac.
Total, useless "junkware"/"Garbageware"/malware.

Ditch ALL Googlewares. They are ALL a serious resource hog on the OS X system.

If you do not like Apple's Safari web browser, download, install and try Mozilla FireFox, instead.
The current, up-to-date version of FireFox is fully compatible with OS X and is regularly updated by the great developers of the Mozilla group.
I have, also, stopped using the Google search engine, regularly and use DuckDuckGo as my default search engine.
You have too many and duplicate user login/startup items.
Add or remove automatic items
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Select your user account, then click Login Items.
Do one of the following:
Click Add below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.
If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click Delete below the list on the right.

  • Hi, I am using an iMAC 6.4 and I will need to upgrade the 10.5.8 to a newer version. I am a PC person, so I have no idea of how do this. Can anyone help me please? Thanks!

e no idea of how do this. Can anyone help me please? Thanks!

There is no such model as an iMac 6.4. Be sure to check the system requirements for upgrading.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

  • Imac (early 2009) Slow, display issues and freezing, can anyone get any info from crash report?

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can provide some insight into why my Imac is constintantly crashing.
    Issue:
For as long as I can remember it has been ocassionally freezing. First there are little redish dots in clusters on parts of the screen, then if you move a window, some of the image of the window gets left behind. Then there are moving horozintal lines that come up from the bottom of the screen. You can move the mouse but it wont click on anything.
As of about 6 months ago they crashed became so frequent that sometimes you couldn't get 5 mins out of the computer before it would do it again.
I use photoshop quite a lot but the files are never extraordinaly large.
The top left part of the computer can become really hot.
In an effort to try to resolve it I rang Apple and they got to do something which made it work properly again for 2 days, long enough for me to decide to upgrade to Mavrick. Since upgrading it's been even worse. It's really really slow and in applications like mail its flashing and looking like it's loading the page over and over again, starting with the bottom of the page and the bottom colour. Mail searh is also not working. It then freezes again.
Mostly it freezes, and doesn' t crash so I have to restart it myself, so it's not reporting it as a crash.
Today it did crash, I was wondering if anyone can figure out whats wrong the the report below?
    Thanks!

This is a Kernel Panic report, I cannot see any software related issues, my bst guess it's related to hardware. Common causes of hardware related KPs are RAM
    Incorrect RAM
    Failed RAM
    Unseated RAM
Eliminate each and then re-test. If it's not RAM it could be a failing HD or something else. I would recommend taking the machine in to be looked at by a professional and tested. Take it to your local Apple Store or local AASP.

  • HT4718 I upgraded my OSX to Version 10.8.4 and all operations are running very slow, especially my online browsing.  Anyone else have this problem, and can undo the update?

I saw an update was available and trusted without exploring what was involved.  Now all applications are running
slow including anything having to do with the internet.  Can I uninstall the update?

Start up in Safe Mode. Connect to your router with an ethernet cable, as your wifi may not work, and apply the 10.8.4 Combo update.

  • My MBP is running slower than usual, often freezes and often have to wait for spinning wheel when just opening mail, safari, etc.  EtreCheck report below. Can anyone help me identify the problem?

  • Dashlane premium (automatic password input) not working in firfox but works in chrome. Can anyone help?

    windows 8.1 64 bit version 6.3 9600 processor

    Hello,
You can also check out the support for Dashline here: [http://support.dashlane.com/customer/portal/articles/363014-how-do-i-sync-between-all-my-devices-?t=293406 How do I sync between my devices: Dashline]
However if you also have sync on for Firefox accounts you may need to temporarily disable this to test if it works at the same time. If you have a firewall please also check to make sure the program can access Firefox etc. [[Configuration Options for Security]] and [[Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet]]

  • Some of the CD's I upload onto my iMac get scattered all over the place, please can anyone help?

Hello, please can someone help me? When I upload some CD's the tracks get scatterred all over the place, do you know if there's a cure?

Take a look at this article:

    Regards.

  • I just upgraded to Lion on my wife's MB 13" 2008 unibody and it runs slow and the system restarts can anyone help?

Everytime the mac is left for a period of time it will restart. It also will shut down apps like safari, mackeeper, etc

    Hello,
So, it won't boot from the ASD Disc?
Did you put the CPUs back in the same position they were in before?
What kind of Thermal paste did you use?
The Macintosh startup chime is the single note or chord (depending on model type) played when an Apple Macintosh computer is turned on. The sound indicates that diagnostic tests run immediately at startup have found no hardware or fundamental software problems.
But, that may not apply once stepping further into the boot process due to a variety of factors.
Are you getting any beeps or flashes on the power button after the bong?
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • My sonos cannot play music from my music or iTunes on my iMac becausee the server cannot be found. Can anyone help?

It has previously worked and all the music is still in those folders. I just don't understand it.

Silly question, but did you try holding down the two buttons on the front Sonos to have it  try to 're-find' your network?
Sorry if this is a 'DUH' question, but that's what I do everytime mine can't find it. Sonos is always 'user error' with me.

  • The music option on my iphone 4s flicks throgh the album covers very quickly but wont play anything. can anyone help?

Hi, Since having trouble with my wifi (which still is'nt working) the music on my phone is not playing. When i select a song or playlist etc. it quickly skips through album covers but does not play anything. Can anyone help?
