My iMAC iTUNES NOW READING SONG FROM THE CLOUD INSTEAD OF THE MACHINE IT IS ON

Bit of a strange one, hopefully someone can help.
All my songs are physically located on my iMAC, I have iTunes Match and yesterday a few of my buddies came back tom the pub, we natural threw some songs on, in the midst of this one of my friends managed to do something (no idea how) where EVERY SONG VANISHED??? I made sure my iTunes match was loaded etc, but every song I have is located on the iMAC and now even though I have managed to restore everything it seems that iTUNES is playing everything from the cloud and not the machine it was and still is originally one, every song has the download marker on it, and there is now option to show in finder anymore. Now its cool I still have all my songs and everything I just really wanna know what the **** my buddy did (and he doesn't know either) and revert it back to how  it was originally playing songs.
Thanks in advance
P

Hi,
I have tried this, yet there doesn't seem to be this file on the machine, even after a search. I have been through the entire song lists too and the are a handful of songs that seem to be playing from the drive yet the vast majority have the download icon next to them, so I cannot play them unless i'm signed into to iTunes match.
I really don't understand how this could of happened, it shows the songs that it is associating to the hard drive as recently added too???

How old was this backup? It sounds like it was at least several weeks old.
You can look directly in the TM backup for the music.
    1. Connect to the external HDD the backup is kept on.
    2. Open a Finder window and select the backup drive in the left hand panel. Double click into the folders until you see a list of folders with dates.
These are the incremental backups. You can start at the top or the bottom of the list but I suggest you double Latest/<HDD Name>/Users/<Account Name>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music. From this location you can start looking for the "missing" music. When/if you find it you can simply drag-n-drop to ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music on the internal HDD.
If the music is actually not in the backups (for whatever reason) then you've got a problem.
You can download the uploaded files from the cloud by deleting the affected tracks from the iTunes library (but not the cloud!), highlighting multiple tracks at once, right-clicking and choosing "download."

  • How do I put all the songs from a compilation album into the same /album/folder in Itunes v12

How do I put all the songs from a compilation album into the same /album/folder in Itunes v12 i know in other versions it was via get info but as all of the tunes have the same album title , I am not sure what tio change to achieve this ?

I don't see your screenshot but I assume you're starting with something like this, i.e., the compilation split into multiple albums:
If you select all the items that you want to be in a single album, right-click > Get Info you'll see this:
As you say, in iTunes 12 you don't see a field to enter a distinct Album Artist value.  You can, however, address this by clicking the Add Field button and selecting Album Artist:
That makes the field available in the metadata dialog so that you can enter the required value:
You can also show the pre-iTunes 12 version of the dialog by holding the SHIFT key when selecting Get Info - this allows you to enter the Album Artist directly:

how can I delete previously itunes synched photos from my ipad 3 now that I use the cloud instead of synching via mac/itunes?

You will need to connect your iPad to your computer, and on the Photos tab de-select those folders that you no longer want on the iPad - they can't be deleted directly on the iPad. If you no longer want any synced photos on your iPad then you can select and sync just an empty folder.

Imac won't play songs from my iPhone after I have authorised it

My solution was restoring my iPhone. Techs at Apple couldn't figure out why so I had to do a restore and worked after that. I know it's a pain and you have to reinstall all you stuff, but it worked for me. Hope this helps.

    Hey ChandlerAdaway!
I have an article here that can provide you some guidance for this issue. First, you will want to check for the songs in your past purchases list for your account, if you haven't already:

  • Downloaded to many songs from i-cloud to my computer.  disk space is now full. how do I undo this

I downloaded to many songs from i-cloud onto my computer.  Now my start up disc is full.  How do I undo?  I can only find the downloads in i-tunes, but if I delete from there, does it delete it all from our library.  We use appleshare with our itunes account.  I am not a computer savvy person, so any basic help is appreciated, even if its to say...go to Apple and get help!  Thanks.

Buy more disc space in iCloud.

  • I need help deleting songs from my new iphone.  The songs don't show up in library, they're unchecked and I've synced only the checked songs, but they're still on my brand new phone.  I've swiped my finger to the left, and that doesn't work.

They have the icloud symbol beside them.  Does that make a difference?

    Hello Jensones,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with music on your iPhone 5s.  It sounds like you're seeing your iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
The items you see with the iCloud icon next to them are purchased songs that you can stream from iTunes in the Cloud and do not have a delete option because they are not actually on your device.  You can hide all these songs in Settings on the iPhone:
Just show music that’s been downloaded from iCloud: Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.
These steps are from the iPhone User Guide:
    iPhone User Guide
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph6e2dfb83
If there are just specific songs you would like to hide, you can hide them using the iTunes Store on your computer:
    To hide your purchases
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
    Go to the iTunes Store.
Click Purchased from the Quick Links section on the right side of the iTunes Store.
Choose a content type by clicking on Music, TV Shows, Apps, or Books from top.
Hover your cursor over the item you want to hide.
You will see an "X" either to the right or left top corner of the item.
Click the "X" to hide that item. A confirmation dialog will appear once you click the "X."
Once you hide the songs on your computer, I recommend quitting and relaunching the Music app on your iPhone.  You can find more information about hiding purchases here:
iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • ITunes deleted my songs from my HARD DRIVE!

iTunes not only has deleted a few files from my library, but it ALSO deleted songs off my hard drive!
I thought, "Well, maybe they just got moved around somehow." But, I thought about how much I go into my iTunes folder and then it dawned on me that I hadn't done that in about a month or so. The deleting thing started happening about a week ago. It's a few songs a day. Seriously. *?
I feel like if I'm spending several thousand dollars on Apple's products (computers, accessories, and music), Apple needs to be a little more appreciative.
If it's a bug in the new iTunes, then Apple needs to be sensitive to the fact that music is LOST permanently! It's frustrating to think about all the music that I've lost and PAID for. If I'm using the iTunes store and iTunes to buy/play music, then Apple needs to come out and apologize and reimburse for what was lost.
I can understand why some of you are frustrated that iTunes is deleting songs from your library, but is there anyone else who is having music deleted from their hard drive?
    <Edited by Moderator>

I'm a bit upset, too. It's only deleted one song, but why did that random song go, and when will it happen to 100s of them?
I have the song on CD and can re-rip it, but that's not the point - it shouldn't go missing from the hard drive.
I've aleady resigned myself to backing up the ITL library file on a regular basis in case it gets mysteriously corrupted.
I'm not sure iTunes deleted this song, but it sure is suspicious.

  • ITunes Match deleted songs from my hard drive. I had to re-rip them. How can I stop this from happening?

iTunes Match deleted songs from my hard drive. How can I prevent this from happening if I try it again?

iTunes Match can in no way be considered a backup service, this is due to the inexact nature of the 'matching process' (see https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4112, for more detail).
Loss of files from a Disk is certainly possible through media failure.  However, the extent of iTunes Match capacity is solely to influence the content of the cloud.  Perhaps there was a coincident, or pre-existing, failure of the disk which was simply exposed by the iTunes Match interrogation of the disk content.
There are certainly other services which depending upon your goal may work well.  For example, Google Play with gBeats IOS App works very well.  My use of Match is to synchronise across several computers and to drive Apple TV and an IOS device - other IOS devices still use sync for specific music and are complimented by gBeats for access to the full library when local mobile signal strength is high.
The strong advice to always start with a secure backup remains but if your primary concern is iTunes Match interfering with physical disk content you can relax - it simply does not have this ability.  (Apology to Sherlock, further investigation required).

  • HT1420 When I go to move a song from my library I got the message "this computer is not authorized"... if I go to the store pop down and authorize the compter is says "this computer is already authorized".... what's going on?

If a small number of your iTunes purchases are affected, delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country. If you get that message for every item, click here and follow the instructions.

  • My iPod nano completely eliminated all 214 songs from my music, leaving just the songs I recently purchased (9).  How can I get them back?  I've tried redownloading them but it didn't work.

My iPod nano completely eliminated all 214 songs from my music, leaving only the 9 songs I last purchased.  When I try to sync, I get a message, "cannot be synced because the iPod cannot be found."

When you say "account," do you mean your iTunes library, because your iTunes library is what is on your computer?  Your iTunes library does not have an email address.  An account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID (which is an email address) and you use it as your user name to sign in to the iTunes Store, to make purchases.  Changing your Apple ID will not make songs disappear from your computer's iTunes library.
If you had an Apple ID and used it to make song purchases from the iTunes Store, and then started using a different Apple ID, you should be able to re-download the songs purchased with the old Apple ID.  In iTunes, sign in to the iTunes Store using your OLD Apple ID (and password).  That may not be your current email address, but Apple uses it as your user name, so it does not matter.
On the iTunes Store Home screen, click on Purchased under QUICK LINKS.  This takes you do the Purchased screen, where you can re-download previous song purchases (for that Apple ID) at no cost.
NOTE:  If those song purchases are from more than a few years ago, you may also need to authorize your computer to play (and sync) songs for your old Apple ID.
For songs that were not purchased from the iTunes Store, if they are also gone, you cannot get them back unless you have a backup (or they are still loaded on your old iPod).
If that's not what you mean by "changed the email address on my account," please post back with more details.

  • Bought a whole album and I only wanted a few songs and now all songs from album are on my phone but not my mac

Okay so today one of my friends used my phone to sign in to his Apple I.D I don't know why? Anyway...once he logged off there was a whole album I bought and I only wanted a few songs from that album and deleted the songs I didn't want but somehow those songs I deleted from the album showed up on my Music on my iPhone but not my Mac. I tried to download it so I could delete it but it says in 90 days you can use another Apple I.D to download songs. Is there a way I can delete the songs I don't want from that album but keep the songs I want? Help?

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
The iphone is not a backup device.
Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • HT1473 If I already own a song (from a different album) and the same song is in an album which I want to get, do I still have to pay for the song?

    Other details:
First album/s- Dookie (Green Day), american idiot (green day)
and 21st century breakdown (green day)
Album with same songs in it- international super hits (green day)

If I already own a song (from a different album) and the same song is in an album which I want to get, do I still have to pay for the song?
    Yes.
The album which the song has been listed under (on the song's page) is listed in your library under that album. The song is then removed automatically from the first album
    No it's not.
Purchasing a new song or album will not affect any other song or album in your library.
In the case of the two albums you mention, if you purchase them both, you will have the same song (different copies) in both albums.
