Why did my iMac start up this morning without requesting my password?
Turn off router for 30 seconds and on again.

My IMac just started making noise - it almost soundslike a disc running - but there isno disc in . Is this normal?
Probably the fans running.
Make sure the air vents are clear.

My IMac , just started, taking a long time to get to the desktop. First I have a gray screen, than a gray screen with a gray globe, a blue screen and finally my desktop. Takes about 4 minutes. What is wrong and what do I do?
Once the desktop is up and the iMac ready to use, open Systeem Preferences (Apple menu) and click the Startup Disk item. In the new screen, make sure that OS X on your hard drive is selected in the top row - click it once to make sure. Then test.

My iTunes just starts up without any input from me?
I can be working in other programs and iTunes just starts up by itself? It does itt randomly and I can't set a pattern for it doing this.
I had this happen to me. Twice.
My problem was that the external speaker wire had come loose from the computer speaker jack. Confirm that your external speaker wire into your Mac is fully plugged in. If it is not fully engaged into the jack, and the computer slightly wiggles (e.g., by typing on a keyboard), iTunes will start up.
Just a thought. . . -

Hi. I`ve just started transferring from my old Imac to a new Macbook, using the WIFI. But I realize it will take days to get it done. Can I cancel the process, and start over again using the thunderbolt port? Without causing any trouble?
See Pondini's Setup New Mac guide for possible answers.

Please help.
I bought the IMAC 21.5" /2.5QC /2X2GB /500GB /6750M sept2012. After the automatic update run when restart computer the screen is on the gray screen with the logo and wont' do anything else. I tried to reboot holding the shift key without success. The package did not come with a CD so I can not reinstall the previous system. I even don't know what is the system that came with the computer because I just start using it. I bought in the US but am in Brazil. HELP PLEASE, how can I get the previous system so I can reinstall it? I do not mind loosing data but I need to work on it. PLEASE HELP! Thanks!Try booting into the Recovery HD which is on the HD. Restart holding down Command+r and at the screen with four choices select Disk Utility>Macintosh HD and click on 'repair disk'. If any changes are made click on repair disk again until you get a clear pass. Restart as normal from the Apple menu.

just started a new apple tv and also started using an iMac . I have itunes on the iMac but i cant get the apple tv to sync or find any settings to do so ! How can I get the iMac and apple tv to sync the itunes ? i have a internet connection between them , I have signed in to the itunes store on the apple tv and it shows that the apple tv is sharing my library from the IMac , but it wont sync and the apple tv has no content !
Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV (with the exception of the Apple TV 1) does not sync, it streams everything from your library on your computer or from the internet. -

When I try to open a file in photoshop CS, Elements or Lightroom I get the message "Could not complete request because it is not the right kind of document" This just started happening today. The only thing I have done differently is change my file handling to raw + jpeg on my Nikon 7100.
I downloaded camera raw 8.7 and I am now able to open my raw and jpeg files. Thanks

I have a late 2006 iMac that has just started giving me a message to reboot after a black screen comes down slowly from the top top of the screen to the bottom. I reloaded software and restored from Time Machine, but it keeps happening, now several tomes a day. Any insight as to the issue or a proposed solution?
Unplug any peripherals you have except your keyboard, reboot, and check activity monitor for apps. Keep running apps to a minimum to find the App causing the issue.

IMac refuses to start up without running installer
We have a very big problem here in the Philippines with Apple's new policy of software only via the internet because the internet for most people cannot handle it. I have been running Snow Leopard with some updates on my 26" iMac and had a problem with the hard disk (supposed to be replaced free but I believe the local service centre stole it). I tried using Time Machine but it could not recover the system so I reinstalled it from a USB stick. Then I copied all the data from the backup drive but iPhoto and other software would not run because the system was now an older version. I cannot download any updates to the OS or to Apps other than very small ones because our internet access is so horribly slow and is restricted to 3Gb per month.
I went to Hong Kong and downloaded the update. Brought it back to the Philippines and ran the installer. With 2 minutes to go it stopped with a message that "The disk is damaged please try again" I tried again and again then gave up and tried restarting with the option key down, with CDROM (C key down), with the F key down and with the T key down to start up in T mode. No matter what I do it just starts up with the installer again and stops with the same message.
Please can somebody tell me how I can get it to start up from a CDROM, USB stick or in T mode.
I will also need to find out how to replace the disk drive myself but will ask in a separate post.Fix your Mac

I have an iMac that I purchased back in 2010 and over the past 9 month or less my computer just started shutting down while someone was in the process or working on it. What could this come from? Is there a simple solutions to this problem?
Which model iMac do you have? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1758 How to identify iMac models
Which OS is currently installed?
Check out KB Articles: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If not of the above works and you have AC, call them. Let them deal w/it. Otherwise, take your iMac down to your local AS or an AASP. Diagnostic testing is FREE!
You can also research for a solution on YouTube's "How To" website and iFixit. -
When I try to charge the battery, my i-pad says: "charging off", how can I change this, so my i-pad will just start to charge as before, without any complications?
Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons... -
I just started getting the error message below, when I drag a file to TRASH, I get the message "Finder wants to make changes. Type in your password to allow this." Why ? and how to to stop this request ?
There should be nothing native to the OS X which would ask for a password
or other information on a restart, unless accompanied by the traditional login
box with your user name.
There are adware or marginal products that could be called malware (bad)
that would impose their presence and some items that could have been
downloaded by accident or through some corrupted free software site; of
those some could ask for and gain permission to go through your Mac
and maybe even run in the background to do other nefarious misdeeds.
You could see if startup in SafeBoot allows you access past that the Completer.
Since I don't have a pile of helpful article links on how to resolve various issues
I'd be looking them up one way or another.
There are some helpful items in the site http://thesafemac.com - see Tech Guides
listed (adware, malware, & performance) plus a link to the adwaremedic page.
Also, Apple support has a helpful page on how to remove adware and other bits:
•Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support
Hopefully this helps somewhat.
Good luck & happy computing!
