My iMac no longer puts out audio.

It doesn't make a peep with either its built-in speakers or headphones. I don't know what the problem could be. Any ideas?

Tried adjusting the volume, right?  Checked  to make sure that Audio System Preferences are ok?
If so then try resetting the  System Management Controller (SMC) and the NVRAM and PRAM
Also run Audio Midi Setup (in the Applications/Utilities folder) and make sure the output source Format: is 44100.0 HZ
Finaly do you have Windows on the machine?
Post back if you still have the problem

    A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Why did my 5G Classic stop putting out audio to peripheral ipod connectors?

    My 5th Gen 80Gb iPod Classic was working superbly until this past April.  I used it in a Sony iPod Dock and my new Tundra using the USB connection religiously for the past two years.  It worked fine without any issues until one day in mid-song, the sound went out while playing in the Sony.  The iPod was still playing, but no sound was being output to the Sony dock.  (This did happen on a beach in 80 direct degree sunlight onto the Sony unit, but the dock is covered by a door and little sunlight would get to the iPod).  I then returned it to my Tundra audio via USB and it did not wake up automatically and get recognized by the audio system as it did before.  I had to press the wheel button to get the Tundra's audio system to recognize it, but then it played (and still plays) fine thru USB.  I since purchased an iOn Block Rocker, with an iPod dock that I have tested with an iPhone, and it works perfectly.  I plugged my iPod Classic into the same jack and it will not output any sound to the iOn either., not even thru the RCA jack via the earphone connection.  I tested the RCA with my Infuse 4G Phone and IT worked perfectly as well.  I think there may have been some event with the accessory interface pin(s) on the iPod (if such a thing exists) or maybe one of the chips that processes the accessory signals got hosed
    Anybody here have an idea what causes this behavior and how to fix it.  I have reset my iPOD to factory defaults a few times and have updated it to the latest software version thru iTunes.  Any knowledge or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    If the reset does not work try the remaining items of:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HELP! X-Fi Fatal!ty no longer putting out ba

    I have the X-Fi Fatal!ty card. It is installed on an XP SP 2 system and is attached to a THX certified Creative 5. speaker system.A while ago, I accidentally uninstalled OpenAL not knowing that it was part of Creative's software. The sound went funky, all highs and mids with no bass. So, I system restored. The sound was still funky. Then I ran a repair operation with my original CD. Still no bass. Then I did a complete uninstall using a driver cleaner to make sure it was all fully gone before reinstalling all of the drivers and software. Still no bass. Then I installed the latest drivers from Creative. Now the bass is coming through, barely. I had to use the THX bass redirecting along with the 5dB boost to hear the bass at a comparable volume to everything else, and it's still not coming through all the way. I have tried downloading and installing the latest Open AL. Once at the repair operation and once with the full uninstall/reinstall. I'm still stuck with this issue. Most of the lows seem, for some reason, to be redirecting into the small satellite speakers, and even then at a vastly reduced volume. In order to hear them at all, I have to turn up the volume really high, which means my highs are now extremely distorted. I am a little wary about trying the new X-Fi beta drivers unless someone can tell me that they for sure work.Nothing I have tried has been able to restore my sound to the way it was.Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue?

    I think I?got a similar?problem earlier today when I was messing around with?onboard audio?that I later removed and after unplugging a?USB headset.
    Have you checked the device manager, is there any higlighted hardware that has a exclamation mark next to it.
    I fixed the issue by simply uninstalling the WDM device with the exclamation mark and restarted.

  • IPod no longer puts out sound, tried multiple resets/headphones

    I have had my iPod for years, I believe I purchased it in 2006, and only days ago did it lose sound. I have tried to reset it, kill the battery, and I have also tried multiple headphones that work on other devices, to no avail. I've always had issues with it freezing, but never losing sound. It still indicates that it's playing, but no sound. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

    It sounds like you have attempted all the known troubleshooting techniques.  It's more than likely that the headphone jack is a gone and is in need of replacement.

  • How do I increase default time of fade out audio and video

    Hi. Still working with elements 8. Today is another day. I notice lately that I right click on the end of my clip and hit the fade out audio and video
    tab but it is a bit short and sloppy for me. I want a slightly smoother and longer fade out audio and video. How do i achieve this? The default time on transitions is fine,,,JUST the fade out on the END of clip?
    Thanks Howard

    Also, if you want to save a customized fade out for future use, you can do that too.
    Google Books has Steve Grisetti's Premiere Elements In A Snap book explaining how to do so. (See pages 165 and 166 at the following link)
    http://tiny.cc/ijdi8
    This is for an earlier version of Premiere Elements but I suspect the steps are nearly identical for PRE8.

  • I am using iMac OS 10.7.2 with Garageband'11 6.0.4. I can't record sound from  mixer Behringer X1622USB using USB out. when I connect the mixer to iMac via USB  appears USB Audio CODEC on Sound and preferences but no sound from mixer to iMac. Need help.

    I am using iMac OS 10.7.2 with Garageband'11 6.0.4. I can't record sound from  mixer Behringer X1622USB using USB out. when I connect the mixer to iMac via USB  appears USB Audio CODEC on Sound and Preferences but I can't get no sound from mixer to iMac only sound from iMac to mixer. I only can record sound using microphone line in. Please help.

    Eric,
    Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
    The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
    I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
    When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
    I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

    Ok, here is my ugly perl script I used to re-encode my flvs so that they work.  You need to have ffmpeg and ffprobe in your current dir, specify the directory that you want to re-encode, and create a dir 'processedaudio' where it will put the processed files, and also have an image button_blue_play.png in your local directory.  Basically, it makes a video out of the png of a few seconds longer than your audio (I found that necessary, to prevent cutting off), then adds the stream to your .flv. (it skips files that already have a video in them, and writes a list of those to 'videolist.txt')
    use File::Copy;
    $dir = $ARGV[0];
    opendir LOCALDIR, $dir;
    @dirlist = readdir LOCALDIR;
    close LOCALDIR;
    open(VIDEOSFILE,">videolist.txt");
    foreach $file (@dirlist) {
    if ($file =~ /flv/) {
    print "got file $file\n";
    $thisfile = $dir . "\\" . $file;
    $newfile =  "processedaudio\\"  . $file;
    `ffprobe $thisfile 2> test.txt`;
    open(INFILE,"test.txt");
    $havevideo = "false";
    while ($line=<INFILE>)
    if ($line =~ / Duration:/) {
    #print "line $line";
    $duration = $line;
    $duration =~ s/.*Duration: //g;
    $duration =~ s/,.*//g;
    @myarray = split(":",$duration);
    #print "minutes $myarray[1] seconds $myarray[2]\n";
    $durationseconds = $myarray[1] * 60 + $myarray[2] + 6;
    if ($line =~ / Video:/) {
    $havevideo = "true";
    close INFILE;
    print "duration $durationseconds\n";
    if ($havevideo =~ /false/) {
    unlink("tempvideo.mpeg");
    `ffmpeg -loop 1 -vframes 60 -r 29.97 -t $durationseconds -i button_blue_play.png -qscale 5 -an tempvideo.mpeg`;

  • How do you get multiple live instruments to put out sound?

    I just got a M-Audio 61 keyboard from my wife for our anniversary. I love it and it works great with GarageBand 1.X. I also have a guitar I use with GB. It is plugged in the 1/8 in. mini jack input in the back of the Mac. I however can't get both to put out sound at the same time. Lets say, for instance, that I would play the guitar and my wife the keys. How can I get both to put out sound at the same time?
    Thank for any help you can offer.
    Your friend in Mac OS X,
    Jose

    Danke Christoph!
    I was glad to get your response. I thought I was not doing something right in GarageBand. I'll get GB2 and try out multiple live sources.
    Once again thanks.

    Hi Folks,
    I am using FCPX 10.0.8 on a MPB 10.8.2 with a multi in/out audio device RME Fireface 400.
    I recorded a timecode track through in 11 and routed it to out 3.
    Initially it worked, although it did also play timecode through the main outputs 1&2 !!!
    Now it has stopped playing TC through output 3.
    Is FCPX capable of working with professional audio?
    Regards
    Donagh Long.

    You welcome

  • 7.2 Bug? Audio Levels Normalized to Max on Export - Blown Out Audio

    Is anyone else experience an audio level shift upon export from Premiere Pro/Media Encoder CC 7.2? Since updating audio or video files I export (AIFF, WAV, h264, etc.) have the audio levels automatically increased, it appears maybe they are being automatically normalized to 0db. But, the increase results in blown out audio.
    Pretty major issue if this is a bug. If it's a 'feature' anyone know how to turn it off?
    I'm on a PC using Windows 7 64bit.
    Update: The audio levels are not being normalized. The problem has to do with stereo audio tracks that have been imported as mono. I was able to resolve the issue by changing my import audio preferences to import Stereo Media 'Use File' and reimporting my audio files  - exporting then worked as expected.
    However, exporting from stereo tracks imported to mono tracks the audio is somehow being duplicated on export resulting in levels that are too high. Not sure if this is a bug or just something to do with the conversion of my old project files...

    Nick,
    Maybe not very useful info here, but an advice...
    Being a native user of æ, ø and å when it comes to talking and writing, I have learned long time ago that using such (æ. ø, å) in file names (or in anything purely computer related) is something that causes hick-ups now and then.
    PS! "Half" when it comes to sound is -3 or -6 dB (dependent on sound power or sound level)

  • NI Stepper Motor not putting out enough torque

    So I have a motion control system with a P70360, UMI 7772, PXI 7332, and a NEMA 23 stepper motor with 380 oz-in. The purpose of the set up is to rotate horizontally a testing fixture and hold it in position (slowly). Previously the set up was using a motor with 180 oz-in but it was decided that it wasn't enough torque seeing as it wasn't able to fully rotate the fixture, also using a step resolution of 18000, current reduction is disabled, multistepping is enabled, dynamic smoothing is minimal, and load-inertia ratio is set to 0-1.
    When the 380oz-in motor was plugged in it was still unable to rotate the platform completely but it wasn't even able to rotate it as far as the 180 oz-in which leads me to believe it was outputting less torque than it should have been. The only reasoning I could think of for this was that there was an issue with the settings somehow where it was limiting the power being fed into the motor for whatever reason. So I walked through the manual (http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/372324d.pdf) and it still wasn't giving enough torque.
    I also read that decreasing the step size would increase the torque so I reduced it to 200 and it started making a grinding noise, which made everyone in the lab stare at me and start laughing... I immediately hit the kill motor button (I've been controlling it using NI MAX).
    So far I can't seem to find anything that mentions the motor making a grinding noise or not pulling enough torque while using the P70360 so here I am asking the community. Why is the motor making the grinding noise (which also seems to become less the higher the step resolution is) and why isn't the motor putting out more torque?
    Also of note, I'm an electrical engineer, meaning my understanding of mechanical terms is limited to the basics.
    Thanks for any help you can give.
    DISCLAIMER: I'm a hardware engineer so I may not be familiar with some concepts/terminology/best practices so... patience is appreciated

    I can't get too specific about the dimensions but it's a rectangular platform about 8 inches wide and 25 inches long (axis of rotation goes through the long way). There are also the UUT seating on one side which is what's causing the imbalance but by placing my lab notebook on the other side it balances out. I would estimate my book to weigh around 2 pounds.
    The exact weight I'm not sure, the platform is attached to two stands through some type of bearings and the motor is turning a part of the shaft that is sticking out slightly.
    On another note though, I decided to attach a oscilloscope to the motor to verify the signals were correct. I had made all the connections, double checked them to make sure all my connections were correct and weren't shorting then turned on the power. As soon as I did there was a white flash from the driver, I turned off the power, and I could smell something was burning. I took the lid off but couldn't see any immediate burn marks anywhere nor was there any visible smoke, just the odor. I decided not to try it again and my principal engineer has been trying to convince me to use another companies motion system. So sadly this may be the last well funded venture into NI motion control I take.
    I'm still going to try to get in touch with a rep and see what I can do about it including taking into consideration the possibility of a gearbox but it's going to have to be on my spare time :'(

  • Aim trying to put 2 audio clips together and you can hear the unnatural break. Is there a transition I can insert to cover it. Kind if like we do with video?

    aim trying to put 2 audio clips together and you can hear the unnatural break. Is there a transition I can insert to cover it up. Kind of like we do with video clips? Like an overlay? Thank you

    You could put the two clips on two different tracks with a slide overlap and fade the first clip out out and the second clip in.
    Or trim both clips in a way, that the first clip ens with silence and the second clip starts with silence.

  • Level out Audio clips to -6db without going into SoundBooth.

    Hi,
    I'm trying to level out Audio in my Premiere Pro CS 5.5 timeline.
    Here's what I've done so far, and it sounds OK.
    I laid my 12 minute on a timeline. I then went into Soundbooth from Premiere Pro. I wemt to Process ------ Hard Limit.
    It brought up the levels a lttle bit.
    I saved it, wemt back in Premiere Pro and clicked on my AudioTrack, I went to Audio Effects and raised the volume to 6 DB. It was still a little low so I added another volume effect from the Audio Effects folder onto the Audio Clip in the timeline. I then raised that up to 6DB as well. Now it sounds good.
    The first time I did this I put the clip on the timeline, went into SoundBooth and put a Process ------ "Equalize Volume" on the clip.
    I went back into Premiere and when I played it back, the levels were perfect, but the audio would go up and down when someone was not speaking. It was annoying.
    So that's why I did the "Hard Limit" I described above.
    Now my question:
    Is there a way to level out all of my Audio to -6 without going into SoundBooth? I would like to do it only in Premiere if possible.
    If not, How can I get the best possible sound that is level and does not go up and down when someone is not speaking?
    Thanks in advance.
    Premiere Pro CS 5.5

    Apply an effect in the MIxer ton the tracack that you want to contyrol.
    You have t olook a little for the Effects Twirl down Triangle thingy.  Adobe HIde this stuff a bit. ( Check the Manual).
    Next . It s perfectly normal to "ride" the levels of any  audio.  ( Music,FX and Voice). Do it in the MIxer.THe MIxer in PPRO is morte powerful than many realise
    .BTW - Sound Booth is a dog - compared to Audition or ProTools or even Premiere (for most people)
