Often my iMac restarts by itself after I put it to sleep, even when my router is off.

I'm encountering the same issue with my mid-2011 iMac 12,1 restarting after being in sleep.
I want to try deleting some startup files/folders as listed in your previous post. When it comes to the following:
/private/var/run/StartupItems
/Library/StartupItems
/System/Library/StartupItems
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons
/Library/LaunchDaemons
Do I delete the entire folder or just the files in each folder? Do I delete all files or am I looking for some in particular?

When my iMac goes to sleep either manually or auto sleep, when I try to wake it by pushing return on my keyboard, pushing on my trackpad, or hitting the power button in the back I get an either greyed or medium blued screen. When I wiggle the trackpad, like a mouse shake, the cursor traces white blotches all over the screen and I have to hold down the power button to restart. This has been going on almost since I went to Lion but it was about every third time. Now with Mountain Lion it is every time it goes to sleep.

I put my MacBook to sleep with Firefox 4 beta open and when I went to use it again it had vanished. My spotlight search yielded v. 3.6 and the v.4 beta installation file (.dmg). I opened v. 3.6 and declined to transfer v4 Add-ons . All tabs that were opened on v.4 beta opened on v. 3.6. I closed 3.6 and reinstalled v.4 beta from the disc image. I was warned to replace previous version (3.6) - which I did. V4 beta installed intact (bookmarks, add-ons, history etc.) but I lost my open tabs. My only concern is that I was required to replace v. 3.6 and don't want to risk losing bookmarks and history if v. 4 proves unstable. I am otherwise pleased with the new look and performance.

Assuming that nothing is pressing on the Home button when this occurs, try the basic steps as needed:
1. Reset phone - press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears.
2. Restore phone in iTunes using a backup
3. Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup.
If #3 doesn't help, there is a hardware problem such as a defective home button, and you should make an appt. with an Apple Store Genius bar.

My iMac 10.6.8 will not stay asleep. It keeps coming back on seconds or minutes after I put it to sleep.

My iMac will not stay asleep. A few seconds to a few minutes after I put it to sleep, it comes back on.

OK, a few more things coming to mind:
Set the energy saver to sleep in 1 min
Diconnect every single peripheral you have connected to your iMac
Eject any DVD/CD you may have in the drive
Turn off all applications you have running
iTunes or DVD Player could be waking it constantly up if accessing your drives
Messaging apps could be looking for internet connection
Disable Wi-Fi
Disable Bluetooth - you don't have cells paired to it, do you?
Disconect Ethernet cable (if connected)
Spotlight - is it indexing your drive? (a dot within a magnifying glass would be pulsating and won't let your Mac go to sleep)
Connect a wired mouse - if you have it - and go to Apple menu then click SLEEP
If it remains asleep, keep adding all apps, devices and services back until you find which one is causing it.
If nothing helps, then I'm out of ideas....
In case you have Apple TV - the remote can indeed make it wake up.

I am sure that it get disconnected because I check the router traffic from another MAC and it get disconnected.
No mother if its connected by cable or wifi, it get disconnected.
In Energy Saver properties "Computer sleep" is set to "Never" and "Display sleep" is set in "10 minutes".
"Wake for network access" is checked but it will never work if network get disconnected.
"Automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep" is checked
All the other options are NOT checked.
I hope someone from this community can help me with this issue.

Since downloading Maverick, my iMac turns itself on, even after I put it to sleep. I go away and when I come back, it's switched on!!!

Imac keeps waking up immediately after being put to sleep

firstly, apologies if this question has already been answered elsewhere in the community
i bought an imac in june of this year (running most up-to-date version of mountain lion), and normally when i leave it, i put it to sleep instead of shutting down
have had no issues in doing this until last night.. now, as soon as i put it to sleep, it goes into sleep mode and then instantly wakes itself up again
i have checked the battery on the mouse and the keyboard (98% and 100% respectively)
i have nothing plugged into any usb ports
any ideas on why it keeps waking up by itself and how to resolve this issue?

i am new to apple products and to the community, and having read the community etiquette i apologise for not referring to the 'more like this' section before i posted - lesson learned
in respect of your advice, i checked the energy saver options as you suggested and the 'wake for network access' option was unchecked
interestingly, i have never had this issue until last night and i have made no system changes, downloaded or updated anything?
still a bit confused, will read through the 'more like this' posts and see if my answer lurks there somewhere

My system often switches back on, after I have put it to sleep, so have to put it too sleep again, any idea what is going on?

Go to the Applications/Utilities folder and launch the Console application. When the Console window opens, make sure that 'All Messages' is selected in the left column, then type 'wake' in the filter search box in the upper right corner. You should see a listing of all the wake events recorded by your system, and a coded reason for the wake event. It will help provide clues.
The following article will help explain the various wake codes and what might be causing the wake event to occur. The article also provides a terminal command providing a different method for pulling up the log entries.

Computer keeps waking up immediately after I put it to sleep

I've got a dual G5 running Panther and I put it to sleep when I go to work in the morning. Last night, I wanted to try out Tiger (yes, I know - I'm way behind the times) so I installed it on a FireWire drive and booted off it for a couple of hours to see how things worked. I then went back to my internal Panther drive, and noticed that when I hit "sleep", it goes to sleep, the screens turn off, and then for some reason I immediately hear the internal drives spin back up and the thing turns on again!! Why can't it stay asleep?!?

That is common and in my sleep tips;
"USB devices and hubs often cause Macs to not sleep or wake quickly from sleep (notably HP printers and scanners, HP all in ones, and Cannon scanners). Disconnect all USB except for keyboard and mouse and try. If it sleeps, add one back at a time testing after each one to find the culprit."

GT70 BSOD or Stuck after Windows puts it to sleep mode of turns off monitor

Hi Everyone!
i have an issue (or 2) with my laptop.
both happens when:
1) whenever i put the laptop into sleep mode or either windows does so automatically (inactive period), - the laptop will go to sleep just fine.
2) windows turns off monitor after a period of inactivity. (sleep mode due to inactivity was disabled in this case)
in both the cases i mentions above, if i wake the computer within lets say 5 minutes, it'll turn on just fine.
but after a certain period of time passes it wont.
with the sleep mode, the computer will wake and will then produce a BSOD STOP error 0x4 and restart.
with monitor turned off it'll simply wont turn on, not responding to neither keyboard, mouse or power button. - i have to do a hard reboot
any ideas?
anything i can check?
note the laptop just came back from a warranty repair, so all parts have been tested and been found ok!
system specs:
MSI GT70-0ND
CPU: Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz (Intel GPU HD 4000 included)
Memory: 16GB DDR3
Storage: 750GB HDD 7200rpm
128GB SSD (Patriot Pyro SE) - OS installed on this.

i dont think i have the same problem as in the other thread.
my bios:
my laptop doesnt restart when my screen is turned off and i try to wake it. it would simply wont wake up.
and my BSOD happens only after i wake the laptop from sleep mode and only if it been in sleep mode for a while. meaning i if i wake it up within a few mins of going to sleep it'll boot justfine.

I push the power button to make my iMac goto sleep. Sometimes it will come right back on a few seconds after doing so. I push the power button again and this time it goes to sleep without problems. Does anyone know why I'm experiencing this with my Mac?

I've had many similar problems when I was using a PowerMac G5 Late 2005 Dual 2.3 GHz: it simply did not stay asleep! I then found that when I wanted to stay in sleep mode indefinitely I had to unplug the ethernet cable from the Mac, since it located ethernet traffic even if the "Wake for Ethernet Network Administrator Access" option was turned off under the "Options" in the Energy Saver Control Panel, in System Preferences... Until I found that glitch, I even brought it to the AppleCare in my town to check for that strange behaviour.
Now I have an iMac 24" (eraly 2008) 3.06GHz and that option is turned off, and when I put it to sleep (in those very rare occasions, I must admit!), it does sleep indeed!
I hope I have been of some help.

G5 Shuts down after I put it to Sleep

Why is my G5 suddenly shutting down all the time when I put it to sleep .... I come back to use it and I have to power it up each time ?

Hello .... I can't seem to find where to " Search " and enter " Shut Down " .... I have opened Console and and able to open the triangles on many things ... This is one of them ... is this the correct one below ?
ALSO - about 4 - 5 years approx. after the warranty expired I had a problem with the power supply and Apple Canada replaced it and the Mother Board free of charge $ 1300.00 would have been the cost there abouts ... Does this mean the same thing is happening again ??? I doubt if I have the info and the paperwork for that repair ( dumb me, I wish I did now ) .... Is there a way for me to find that info with my serial number ?
If so - do you know why it would happen again and if so , is Apple still prepared to stand behind their product once again ?
