My iMac's internet is running very slow.
I have an iMac model identifier 9.1, with Mac OS X v10.5.8 and safari version 5.0.6. All programs are running normally (fast) except safari. When I try to load webpages it takes about 11 seconds to fully load. All other computers in my house are connected to the same internet and running fine. What do I do to make the loading faster?
You could try this:
go up to your computers menu bar while safari is open and select "Safari" from the drop down menu.
then go to Empty Cache and select it. that should help some.
you could also download an Ad Blocker to help pages load faster. I personally use this one:Safari AdBlock
and it works well.

I own an Imac G5. It is running very slow. Did hardware test and got an error code 2STF/8/3:S-ATABUSO-Master. What is my next step?
Also how do i run disk first aid on the computer off of the install disks? Which disk do i do it from. Thanks in advance. StuartSounds like your hard drive it about to die.
I would backup ASAP.
To run First Aid on your disk, you need to boot from the install DVD for your Mac.
After selecting the language, open Disk Utiltity and repair the disk.
If it reports errors that DU is unable to repair, report them here and we will provide additional help.

Dec 25, 2014, 08:53:32 AM /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Installer_2014-12-25-085332_[redacted].hangI would try a Safe Boot OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support be paitient it takes longer. When its booted up you can just restart normally.
Forcing shutdowns can cause disk corruption. Even though EtreCheck doesn't report any disk errors I would run Disk Utility from your recovery partition (Command-R restart) and repair the startup disk and repair permissions.
I also recommend removing the BlackBerry software, it's been known to cause problems. -
IMac using Lacerte but running very slow
Hey, so I am running my iMac10,1 with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor running about 3.06 GHz with a 4GB memory. I have both Parallels and VMware Fusion 3 installed to access a program that is only Windows-based called Lacerte in order to do taxes. But, when running this program, I need both tax years open in order to go back and forth. That's where the problem comes in. When opening both years, the machine runs INCREDIBLY slow and takes a couple minutes to perform each action. I was wondering if there were any suggestions on how I could run this program faster so I could start using my Mac permentently for the tax season. Thank you!
Well, you might wanna open up the Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder and check and see if something is sucking up all your preformance.
If you haven't already done it, you should also repair disk premissions and verify disk from the Disk Utility.
You can also run a clean-up app like Maintenance
(free at http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/maintenance.html )
This will also repair the disk premissions for you.
Good luck -
IMac (late 2009) CPU runs very slow (about half speed)
After having had troubles with performance I 've recently discovered, that Geekbench as well as Xbench return results way too low for my machine. In fact it appears results are exactly half the speed one would expect. In Xbench CPU power is about a score of 110 where I had 220 with 10.6 for example.
Now I had done an SSD update a couple of month back and this speed gain probably masked the CPU problem. I might even have damaged the small monitor synch cable during the procedure but all hardware tests (TechTool Pro 6 for example) show no problems.
I've tried resetting PRAM and SMC but to no avail. Also booting into SAVE Mode did not change the behavior. Here is my etre check profile:

Somebody posted a very similar problem, resetting SMC helped there. Running Bench I can see normal degradation when running other tasks (i.e. from 110 CPU which is max of what I can get at the moment to 80-90 when running other apps) So it really seems to be some preset which keeps the CPU from running both cores or such.

My speed test says 15.7mbps for down load and 1.1mbps for up loads. It take a very long time to bring up a site. any suggestions
Compared to mine those are incredibly fast. I'd love to have those speeds. I'm on a slow DSL. My download is 1mbps and upload is .38, so clearly the problem is not with your internet bandwidth. Sites are not loading slowly on mine.
First thing to try is clear your cookies and cache, and possibly remove much of the history. Then quit the browser and reopen.
Try putting these numbers from openDNS servers into DNS for the network interface you're using. They could be faster. (And they may be safer; they are patched against DNS poisoning.)

My mac air is running slugiish and my internet connection takes forever to change windows...what can I do?
If the computer is brand new, it may be reviewing (indexing) all you files for search. This will take a few hours to complete. Otherwise you likely have a program that is running poorly and slowing your system down.
Open the Fibder
Click the Go menu at the top of the screen
Click on utilities menu item under go
Open the Activity Monitor
When Activity monitor opens, there will be a lot of data in the window, to make better sense of it click on the column labeled CPU. This will sort entries by how much of your computer's CPU they use. The lower the number the better.
Locate any programs using 80% or more of your CPU. They are the likely culprits of your speed issue.
If the speed issue is only related to surfing the internet, then you more than likely have an issue with WiFi instead. Try moving closer to your wireless router to see if it speeds up. -
Internet video runs very slow.
Internet video plays back consistently at about half speed or a little better. The audio plays normally. Other video on this computer runs fine — I play Blu Ray movies and edit HD in FCP X (occasional dropped frames but that is to be expected). If i download internet video to my hard drive, they play at normal speed sometimes, other times still wrong video playback speed but still normal audio playback. I can play other (non-internet) HD clips in Quicktime player with no problem.
I formatted a drive and installed Lion again (latest OS that will run on this computer) -- installed Chrome and it worked fine, no problem with internet video playback. Then I used Migration Assistant to transfer everything and now I have the same problem as the old system. (also updated Flash Player) I've tested my internet speed and it's where it should be — 18Mbps. The problem occurs in Safari, Firefox and Chrome equally.
It's doesn't seem to be a hardware problem or video card problem (I have two video cards, an Nvidia 8800 GT and a GeForce GT 120 — the setup is for DaVinci Resolve). And it seems like not a system problem — a clean install of Lion plays internet video just fine — until I transfer applications and user folder.
What else can I try? Thanks for your reply.
7 GB of RAM. I should mention that until recently (about a month), internet video worked just fine. Can't think of anything that has changed radically in last few months. No major new applications installed or other settings changed (although I might be wrong about that). I use this computer for video editing so I would have noticed. Charter Cable has tested from their end and they report no problems. Also tried plugging the computer directly into the cable modem (bypassing the network router) and same result. -
I have a desktop iMac that has been running very slow lately. I turned off the power yesterday, thinking a restart may help. When I turned the power back on, the screen turned white and stayed white. Any ideas???

Internet is moving very slow and customer support is no help
my internet is running very slow, i am currently paying for 35/35 internet speed. i ran the speed test a few times and the download speed was 00.26. I tried calling verizon but i only got a machine. The machine said Verizon video on demand was down in my area and would expect to be back up thursday. I dont care about the video on demand cause i hardly use that. I was wondering since the video on demand is down would it effect my internet speed and explain to why it is moving so slow?
I would power cycle your gateway/router. The download speed you are getting is incredibly slow. If powercycle of your router doesnt resolve the issue you might have to call tech support again and hopefully you can get through. If you can call your neighbor and see if they have same internet slowness like you. Your ONT might need to be rebooted. VOD shouldnt cause internet slowness since I do believe is on a differnt wavelenghth.

Early 2009 iMac is running very slow
My early 2009 is running very slow. Takes about a minute to open Safari upon start-up....even opening up folders from finder take a long time. Get the spinning beachball often. Opening websites takes 30-40 seconds sometimes....they do open eventually. I have run permissions repair from Disk Utility. Our iPad has no such problems. iMac is hardwired, iPad is wireless. I ran a report with "EtreCheck" but don't really understand what it is telling me. I have about 100GB of space left out of 300GB. Will attach "EtreCheck" report if I can figure out how!
Thanks so much for any help! Only recent changes I have made is upgrading iPhone and updating Charter Cable Security Suite.
