My Imac spits out cds and dvds
My Imac will not read any of my CD's or DVD's, it just spits them out, any help out there?
Try resetting the SMC and pram, but my best guess is that your drive has failed.
To reset the SMC
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord.
Wait fifteen seconds.
Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

hi all, i got a plastic case 24" imac 2.33 with osx tiger. i noticed the drive hadnt showed in my finder folder quite awhile now but paid no mind to it. a week ago a friend brought over a rush dvd to watch and it spit it out everytime i put it in, i thought bad dvd. months before that i noticed i had to really work to get disks to eject. theyd come out a lil then suck back in. today i tried to put in a blank cd and it spit it out right away after many attempts. same disk works fine in my mas older imac. looks like many here having same problem. any answers from apple? please not another issue like the airport express that mac never acknowledged. that took me almost a week to fix while apple has still never offered a solution.

i got a remedy from phone support today. heres the scoop:
step 1: insert your install disk 1 from apple. it your drive sees it goto step 2. if no disk appears make reservation at genius bar.
step 2: eject disk shut down comp. restart, press and hold down appleoption+pr until you hear 2 chimes. release buttons. try a commercial cd(store bought music), if it fails try another commercial cd to be sure its not the disk. do the same procedure with a dvd. next do the same procedure with a blank cd. open system preferences cd/dvd change top two options to, ask what to do, just in case they been changed.
i did everything but insert the install disk before without any luck. that maybe the trick.
im a happy man again, thanks to apple phone support.

20" iMac will read/play dvds but spits out cds and games
I have a 20" intel iMac 2.0GHz (old model) with isight, 1gb ram, 160gb hd, and a superdrive of course. It has been an awesome machine until just tonight I was going to import a cd into itunes and the you can hear the drive spinning the disc 4 or 5 times like it wants to read it and then it just spits it out. This also happens with the Sims 2 on the Windows partition under Boot Camp. I have never had this problem before until now and I AM HOPING AND PRAYING I DON'T HAVE TO SEND TO APPLE FOR WORK. I have had this machine under a year so it is still under warranty. I should also mention that I have tried - 1. resetting the PRAM, 2. rebooting in Safe Mode, and 3. verifying and repairing disk permissions - all to no avail. Please please please help anyone. I've been using an OWC Mercury DVD/CD external burner. It's actually a Pioneer unit in their case. It costs $99.00 and has FW/USB2.0 capability.

I bought it because I didn't want to go through the hassle and expense I had when my 17" Powerbook Super Drive went out. It cost me about $400 to have it replaced by Apple. When I got my 24" iMac, I decided I wasn't going to go through that again. Anyway, the external unit worked great until I upgraded to 10.5.2. It still read and burned DVDs and burned CDs but it couldn't read CDs. OWC had me send it back to them for repair/replacement. ( I just sent it last week so I haven't gotten a status report from them yet). Then I found this discussion group which makes me wonder what is the problem. OWC is great about making things right. I've ordered several items from them and have been very pleased with their products and support. I tried an Iomega CD burner with my iMac and it burns fine from an iTunes playlist, but does not show CDs on the desktop when I insert a commercial disk. I just get a message that the computer can't read this disk, - the same as I got on my other external drive even though I just burned the disc successfully using that drive! -
My MacBook keeps spitting out CD and DVD or it won't take it at all. What do I do?
I tired putting a CD in my Mac but it keeps spitting it out. It wouldn't go all the way in either. Sometime it won't even take the CD. What do I do? Its really important.
Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. Or buy an external optical drive.

My iMac will "spit out" cds or dvds. they will just eject, and not stop so that I can grab it, they simply fall. I have heard that it is the material used on the imacs exterier that is on the outside of the superdrive but am not sure, any help would be appreciated.

Accepts discs but they don't mount or are automatically ejected
Make sure the drive is not placed upside down. The aluminum enclosure should be facing up as shown in section 1.
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
Connect the MacBook Air SuperDrive directly to the computer's USB port instead a USB hub.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. The System Profiler or System Information may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 or earlier: Open Apple System Profiler by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click More Info.
OS X Lion v10.7 and later: Click the Apple () menu and then hold down the Option key. Choose System Information from the menu.
If the disc continues to not be recognized, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store.

CDs and DVDs are literally spit out of my iMac
I don't know if this is normal, but my iMac really spits out the CDs and DVDs when I eject them. It used to stop midway and hold it in place like my Powerbook does.
I already tried repairing permissions and all that. I was going to run down to the Apple store at 5pm today and I just wanted to know if I should even bother going. Because if this is a normal thing for the computer to do, I might as well not even bother.
BTW my warranty expires on May 16th and I don't have the funds to get Apple Care.So I took my iMac in yesterday and they had to replace the bezel. It was a warranty service, but my 1 year is up today and I hope nothing else happens to it. I don't really have the funds to get applecare (struggling college student), but I also found out my iMac is within the serial numbers of the faulty iMacs and I guess I have another year for any problems that arise from that.

The optical drive uses a different wavelength laser to read DVD media (780nm for CD vs 650 for DVD. It's possible that the laser diode for reading DVD media is not working properly. If your iMac is still under warranty and the issue occurs with all DVD media then you'll need to take it in for evaluation.

Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your ownNote: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

hello im currently using....iMAC snowleopard 10.6.8
3.06 GHz intel i3i need some help please....my mac acceppts cds and dvds... my drive is located at the right of the screen.....but no icon appears in desktop and finder......also...it does not read....any cd....does not read any dvd either.....it ejects the cds after a while on its own....also it does not burn any cd.....wen i tried....errors with 0x06 ....medium errors,....show up.....also...i tried reinstalling the mac os.....but when i restart the pc...and...keep C key pressed...the cd just gets ejected.....can someone please help me with this problem?????? i contacted APPLE too.. but they said it must be a software problem......also no apple macbookair superdrive does not get connected to the mac either.....PLEASE HELP!!!!

My harddrive is full due to 17k of pic in my iphoto.
I am trying to copy them onto DVDS then free up the space on my HD by deleting them.
When I try to burn a few events at a time, but my Mac just spits out the blank DVD-R.How much space do you have left because maybe the system is unable to cue the burn because is needs to write some data to the hard drive before burning the DVD-R. Download OmniDiskSweeper, this program will give you information on your files and folders and give the opportunity to delete some files. If you have a external hard drive you can just copy your files to the hard drive then delete off you main hard drive.

CD Drive ejecting ALL CDs and DVDs.

As usual I am writing this on behalf of my friend that just got a White 1.83 week 29 MacBook. He was using it all day today, importing CD's into iTunes. The CD drive will no longer accept any CDs. When you put them in, it pulls them in by itself, starts to read them, and then spits them right back out. He has tried numerous different CDs and DVDs to no avail. They all get spit out. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
-MRCURFrom personal experience and reading through the forums...most people seem to be having this problem with the superdrives not the combo drives. This makes your case a little more unique...but probably still the same issue.
It seems that the manufacturer of the combo and superdrives made some low quality devices. There are literally hundreds of postings in this discussion group about this problem.
I Had my macbook for all of 24 hours when the superdrive started doing this same thing. Apple was quick with the repair though. I sent it in Friday and I am getting it back today. i will let you know if it is fixed when I get home tonight. It seems that a lot of people in these forums have sent their macbooks in more than once for their superdrives.
For $1400.00...you'd think that you'd have a reliable system, you know?

When I click on itunes, I get a message that says, "the registry settings used by the itune drivers for importing and burning cds and dvds are missing. this can result from installing other cd burning software. Itunes drivers missing for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing

I have been dealing with the following problem for a couple days now, I have searched all over the internet, talked to friends and even Apple tech support but the problem has not been solved.
Whenever I access itunes, I get the following warning: "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other burning software. Please reinstall itunes."
I have now reinstalled itunes several times and completely removed then reinstalled as instructed, but the message continues to appear and itunes will not allow me to burn cds. Tech support advised to create a new user account on my computer which I did, it seemed to work but all I can do is import music. I cannot burn any. All my settings and playlists aren't on this account. But, are on my other one where the first message appeared.
Can anyone help? Please. I have struggled with this and cannot figure out what else to do except reset my computer to its factory setting, but would really like to avoid doing so. Please help.
I have a new HP computer running Windows Vista, I have never experienced any problems with itunes until now. I bought a new 120GB ipod in November and it works fine. Oh, I have gotten rid of Nero which was installed when this problem first occurred.

*But be warned that messing with registry might be fatal to your current OS intallation. So think all the way through before you do anything. I think you can keep a back of the registry so if something goes wrong you can restore it, but thats in XP, not sure about vista.* -
Super Drive spits out un-recorded DVD´s
The Super Drive ( MatshitaDVD-R UJ-816 ) on my 15" PB G4 for som reason keeps spitting out un-recorded DVD´s of the following type, which according to its specifications it is compatible with:
-R, -RW
-R, -RW
It will however accept recorded DVD´s. Anyone know why or what can be done about this?I have the computer and drive.
