Not sure which iMac you have or what OS X it is running, but
If your iMac is running Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks, use OS X Recovery instead of the Install Disc.
see > OS X: About OS X Recovery
If your iMac is running Snow Leopard or earlier, then something is wrong with your Superdrive or your Install Disc.
If other DVDs and CDs are working in your Superdrive, then contact Apple Support and order a new Install Disc.
see > http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
If no DVDs or CDs are working in your Superdrive....?
1. Try the steps, at > Apple Computers: Troubleshooting the slot-loading SuperDrive
2. Try cleaning it with a Lens cleaning kit. example > Memorex-CD-DVD-Player-Laser-Lens-Cleaner
3. Contact your local AASP and make a service appointment. see > https://locate.apple.com/

  • My MBP keeps ejecting my install disks!

I thought I'd make backup copies of my SL disks, but the Machine keeps ejecting them. It reads other disks just fine, including the Tiger install disks off an iMac.
The SL disks will read fine in the iMac, but the MBP doesn't want them!
And once I've solved that, how do I copy them? On the iMac I keep getting the installer if I click on the disk icon.

The SL disks are DL DD DVD's. Perhaps your optical drive is having problems reading those. Take it to an Apple store or AASP.
How to Make a Non-Commercial DVD copy of MAC OS X
    Making a DVD Image:

Step 1. Insert the retail Mac OS X Install DVD into your drive.

Step 2. Launch Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities).

Step 3. In Disk Utility, you will notice a white pane on the left hand side. In the pane, select the Mac OS X Install DVD by clicking on it once.

Step 4. Click New Image on the Disk Utility toolbar.

Step 5. A dialog box will appear. Give the new image a name. I used 'Mac OS X Install DVD'. Select the destination where you wish to save it. Leave Image Format at Compressed (default) and Encryption at None (default).

Step 6. Click Save to begin creating the image.

Step 7. Once your image has been created DO NOT mount it. Leave the image alone and proceed to the next section.

Burning the Image:

Step 1. Launch Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities).

Step 2. Click Burn on the Disk Utility toolbar (upper left).

Step 3. Navigate to where you saved the DVD image created in the previous section. Click on the image file, then click the Burn button. Do not drag and drop the image file into Disk Utility during this step.

Step4. Insert a DVD when prompted and proceed to Burn it. (use good quality media).

  • Internal iMac superdrive keeps ejecting discs

The Superdrive on my iMac will not accept any discs. It just immediately ejects discs that I insert. This happened before about a year ago, but I forgot how I got it to work, and I can't find the thread here.
Thus this request: What do I need to do to get the Superdrive on my iMac to work again? I already cleaned it out completely with the air duster. I know that there is some keyboard startup trick or something that needs to be done to reset something, but my brain is aging, and I forgot what it is. Obviously any helpful suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

  • Why does imac G5 eject leopard install disk

Why does imac G5 eject leopard install disk?  I'm trying to help my father get online to read the newspaper using an iMac G5 1.8 GHz 17".  I've installed a new hard drive and reinstalled software and rus software updates until I've reached 10.4.11 and the lovely "your software is up to date" message.  When I put in the Leopard 10.5.1 Install DVD, it auto ejects within 15 seconds and never gets mounted and never shows on desktop.  When I place the same DVD in my Intel MacBook Pro running 10.6.8, the disk mounts and the install window opens as usual.  Any suggestions on what i'm missing here? thanks

Try zapping PRAM. Hold down the cndopt+RP keys on restart (with the Leopard disk in), and release them after 3 "bongs". Then, immediately hold down the C key.

Yes the original Install Discs can be replaced for a nominal fee. Call AppleCare, you will need a credit card and the serial number of the machine. You can use the AppleCare Contact Info for the phone number on your part of the planet.

  • Superdrive keeps ejecting disk on Mavericks sign on.

I've just installed a fresh copy of Mavericks and have a strange problem.
My Apple Mac Pro "Eight Core" 2.4 (2010/Westmere) boots up fine until it gets to the Mavericks sign on screen and if there is a disk inside the superdrive then ejects it. I have 1 superdrive and a MCE Blu-Ray drive and both behave in the same manner.
So, I booted up from my old LM and it doesnt do it, I cant ever recall my Mac doing this in LM, Lion or SL, Leopard.
My Mavericks install has various software installed on it and thought it may be one of the apps playing up and causing the disk to eject. I formated a new drive and installed Maverick on it and it still ejected the disk.
So, software ruled out! I set about resetting my NVRAM & PRAM still didn't cure it.
Booted up in Safe Mode and still the same.
Ran Apple Hardware Test (AHT) no problems found.
Ran pernissions repair and still keeps doing it.
I know the simplest thing would be not to have a disk inside the drive but it's little things like this that eeeeerrrrrr!!!!!! you know what I mean!
I'm out of ideas, anyone else have this problem? and help?

  • IMac Bootcamp keeps ejecting Windows 7 installtion disk

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro which used to have Windows 7 on via Bootcamp but the Windows partition started crashing so in the end I uninstalled windows using Bootcamp reverting my hard drive to just one partition. Now I'm attempting to do the same thing again. I followed the correct procedures but for some reason my mac keeps ejecting the Windows 7 installation disk. It's the same disk I used when I first installed Windows. Any ideas?

    This is for UltimateRainbow
On the OSX side, if you put in the Windows DVD, can OSX read the DVD?
    Sorry rkaufmann87

  • My imac wont read Windows 8 install disk

    Hello,
i am trying to install windows 8 using boot camp. Boot camp is up to date. when i put in the windows 8 disk (brand new) into my Imac I can hear it trying and then it just shoots it out. I tired this with a windows 7 install disk also and it did the same thing.

    Hello christopherfromconcord,
The following article contains information that may be helpful in getting your iMac's optical drive to read your Windows install discs.
Apple Computers: Troubleshooting the slot-loading SuperDrive
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2801
The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
The MacBook Air SuperDrive is designed to be used with MacBook Air and Mac mini computers that do not have a built-in optical drive. For best results, connect the MacBook Air SuperDrive directly to the computer's USB port instead a USB hub.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. The System Profiler or System Information may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier: Open Apple System Profiler by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click More Info.
OS X 10.7 Lion or later: Open System Information by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click System Report.
If the disc continues to not be recognized, contact Apple, an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • IMac won't boot to install disk, normally or in safe mode! Please help

    Hi everyone,
I'm using my iPhone so please excuse any spelling or grammatical errors.
    I have a 27" quad-core iMac bought about a year ago.
Today I went to reformat the harddrive as I'm selling the machine to a friend. First the iMac would not boot to the install disk - it just gets stuck on the apple logo screen, but with no spinning wheel - now it won't even start up normally! I've attempted to start up in safe-mode but again it gets stuck on the apple screen and there's a strange clicking noise, which sounded like it was coming from the cd drive area.
It's a shame this happened today, right before I was supposed to give the computer to it's new owner. I really don't want them to think I was trying to sell them a computer with problems.
I've tried a basic hardware test and it came back with no problems.
    Can anyone help?

Try using the original Install Disc that came with the machine, do not try any other DVD. Put it in the SuperDrive, while holding down the power button also hold down the Option button on the keyboard. It should start and give you the option of starting from either the internal HD or the Install Disc. Choose the Install Disc, select the language, choose the Utilities Menu, Disk Utility, then select the internal HD, select the Erase tab and set it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click erase. Then exit Disk Utility and continue with the install process to reload OS X.

  • My superdrive keeps ejecting even empty.

My supredrive keeps ejecting without having any disc in.
I also figured that everytime the mac feels a hit around it or in the keyboard... like a hard one...
then u can hear the superdrive ejecting.

I've been fighting this same problem. It got worse after installing 10.5.6.
But I think I found a remedy. I've posted it here:

  • My 2012 iMac 27" keeps ejecting my click free external hard drive after a few hours whether I'm using it or not

I've had my iMac since October 2012, and in November I got myself a clickfree 1tb external hard drive that uses Usb3...
My friend has the same hard drive and an iMac that's about a year older than mine, but has no problems with it.
However my iMac keeps ejecting the hard drive at random moments whether I'm using it or not, and it keep's prompting me
about the correct way to eject a hard drive... But I didn't tell it to eject the hard drive or want it to in the first place!?
It also doesn't always like to acknowledge that there is even a hard drive connected upto it...
My iMac also struggles to run any other programme if I have Final Cut 7 open either, it tends to just give up and freeze.
I have very little stored on the Mac itself as I store all my files on hard drives to keep the Mac clear and not clog it up, so
considering its running with a 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 4GB memory, I'm struggling to see what's wrong with it...
    Somebody help me please!?

Read the user manual and/or contact the vendor/manufacturer.  You need to determine first if the problem is the external drive or not since it's 3rd party.

  • Eject the install disk

Hi. Please help. My install disk appears to be hanging on the grey Apple screen at start-up. I've not yet installed Leopard. I just want to eject the disk. How do I get it out of the computer. I'm thinking I got a bad disk.
    Thanks. Dan

    Dan
I can understand this to be a problem. The optical drive is barely reading the DVD, but just enough so it does not give up. Typically, a drive will re-read a sector several times if it experiences a problem. So imagine if much of the DVD had this film on it - - the installation might finally work, but only after the drive struggled with the DVD for a very long time. Also, at some point, the computer or drive might get really hot and make things worse.
I think this is one of the major problems people have been having, with no explanation until now.

  • Drive will eject vista install disk but not any other disks

My two-day old iMac G5 will not accept my install disk for vista. It has accepted all other media that I have tried so far. The disk was immediately recognized by my MacBook Pro, so it is not a problem with the dvd itself. Any suggestions?

Um, is the computer new or used? I ask because G5s were discontinued in early 2006. G5s won't run Windows unless you have VirtualPC.
