My iMac thinks a VGA monitor is connected, and that it's the main

Hello,
I have been looking around this forum, and the web, for an answer to my problem. I haven't found one yet.
My problem is that I sometimes connect my TV to the iMac, using the appropriate adapter, and now the computer states that a "VGA Display" is always the main monitor, and the iMac Display is the secondary, even if there is no other display connected.
System profiler says, under Graphics/Displays:
Chipset Model: GeForce4 MX
Type: Display
Bus: AGP
VRAM (Total): 64 MB
Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0189
Revision ID: 0x00a3
ROM Revision: 2032
Displays:
iMac:
Display Type: LCD
Resolution: 1440 x 900
Depth: 32-bit Color
Built-In: Yes
Core Image: Not Supported
Mirror: On
Mirror Status: Hardware Mirror
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Supported
VGA Display:
Resolution: 1400 x 1050 @ 60 Hz
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Not Supported
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: On
Mirror Status: Master Mirror
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Supported
I have reset PRAM, Open Firmware, created new user accounts, and totally wiped the hard drive and reinstalled Tiger. Still, the stupid "VGA Display" is ever present.
Thanks a million in advance to anyone who can help me out of this mess.

hi,
i understand what's your problem because it's the same for me.
it's about 2 years that i call Apple and they don't know how to solve it !
In this 2 years they change me motherboard, connector/cable TV,
but everytime the same problem return !
After that i used my iMac to mirror my photos in tv and unplug the adaptator, my iMac think that there is a Vga monitor... but it didn't !
If you go in the system profiler/monitor you'll see the the mirror is on.. strange.
i'd try also with 3rd part software to change the option monitor but... nothing.
i'll hope that we can solve it !
sorry for my english.. bye

My project in imovie says source unavailable after I moved the events to the backup drive. It is connected and shows up in the events library. I can see the pictures but they won't play without the source. What do I do.

I moved it because I did not have room on my hard drive to import my latest video. I take videos my grandkids basketball games then edit them as projects. I don't have room to move the whole events library back to my hard drive. Can I move part of it at a time.
I filled up my 1 TB back up drive so got a 3TB to move my video projects to. Do I have to move both the i photo videos and the projects to the 3 TB drive together some how. When can I delete them off the hard drive .
I moved all the i photo library to the 3 TB drive and deleted them out of i photo. That is 87 GB which I don't have room for on my hard drive.
I think when I use the export movie to my hard drive it works but will I still be able to edit it later if I want. Is it best to do quick time or i tunes if I use the export feature.

I just bought a new iMac and am trying to install Lightroom. The system is asking for my original serial number which I don't have. The point is. If I have the upgrade registered with my Adobe account, shouldn't that be proof that an earlier version was on my computer??? I'm really stuck. Need some advice! Thanks

    Hi John,
Thanks for your response, but if you read my first mail, it's the original serial number that I don't have. I bought the original LR as download and have misplaced the serial number. Is there any way to find it???

Today is April 10, 2013. I try to login to iTunes connect and I keep getting the message "An error has occurred processing your request. Please try again later or send an email for assistance." It never tells us what email address we need to write to.

The problem was solved by Apple Technical Help. The process is as flollows:
    1. Open Safari
    2. Menu item Safari-Reset Safari - remove all website data - reset
    3. Now if you try to login on iTunes connect it will work.

I connected my iPod Touch to a stereo system phono input using a cable with stereo jacks (red and white) on one end and that plugs into the iPod's headphone jack.  The problem is that the sound is extremely muffled and bass-heavy, with little treble.  I have to turn the bass control on the stereo receiver to pratically zero in order for the sound coming through the stereo to be acceptable.  Is there a setting on either the iPod or the stereo that I need to change in order to fix this?

The phono input is for a phonograph.  The iPod does headphne output is not that same as a phongraph output.  Does th stero have an AUX input?  That should be compatible.

    Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
On your iPad go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings and see if that enables you to connect.

I already tried rebooting, and I tried hooking it up to itunes as well, no luck there either.

    Try to reset all settings.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.  It won't delete your data.
When you say reboot, do you mean you pressed the home and sleep button at the same time until it restarted?

    Hello Steve
The simple and quick fix is right-clicking on that little Safe icon in the system tray (near the system clock) and choose Stop Backup/Synchronization. Do you see that icon?
Turn it on and off as needed. Did this work for you?

  • Dynadock VGA - monitor suddenly freezes and disappears

    OK, perhaps a bit cryptic.
What happens is this: I have a Zepto Znote notebook with a GeForce 8600M graphics card. I want to use that as my only computer, but I'm 100 % dependant on a dual monitor setup in my line of work (media work with a video on one and a script on the other).
On both Vista 32 and XP I have managed to install everything (and I have tried with both Toshiba drivers and newer Display Link drivers) and the monitor works.
But after a random period, from a minute and up to around 15 minutes (which is the longest I have managed to work this far) the monitor on the Dynadock just locks up on the current image page, and I can't get the mouse up on that monitor anymore. The actual program running on that monitor (often Foxit PDF reader or Word) has now jumped to the main monitor, behind the active program.
The secondary Dynadock monitor will be deactivated in display manager, and if I activate it again nothing happens. I have to restart the computer without the Dynadock plugged in and then plug it in.
It will work for a few minutes again, and we're back to the same problem. I tried to update the LAN drivers and the Display Link drivers and disabling the LAN, but that didn't do anything.
And this can happen while I'm doing something on the secondary monitor or when the display has a static image.
What type of image doesn't seem to matter either. Can anybody please help me?

    Hi
Okaccording to you message the secondary Dynadock monitor deactivates in display manager.
I think its not a Dynadock issue but possibly its your notebook issue.
I think the Dynadock loses the connection signal to the notebook and therefore the secondary Dynadock monitor deactivates and the pic freezes.
It would be interesting to know how it works with another computer.

My LCD can not see my VGA cable when connected to my iPhone 4 that has been upgraded.  Thoughts please?

As of now apple has stopped this. We can all give a feedback for this to apple so that after getting a huge amount of feedback about this they may rethink once to implement it back.

  • I was able copy the hardrive of my old macbook from "My Passport" onto the desktop on an older iMac. but i dont know how to make my hardrive and user name be the main one since someone had used it in the past and had their info on the comp. please help!

I recently broke my 2008 macbook. i was able to use an external hardrive to back up my data onto My Passport. I was going to buy a new computer but a friend told me sher had an older version of the iMac. (not sure how old but it doesnt have a camera if that helps) i was able to hook it up and turn it on but i ran into a few problems. 1) the "authentic" user or whatever it says is someone who previously used the computer. i added me as a user but im not sure how to make me the main user. 2) after hooking up My Passport, i was able to drag my files and copy them to the desktop.(i think i did it correctly) now, i dont know how to make my hard drive and applications and iformation the "main " info. The current apps on the iMac are super old versions of iTunes and iPhoto and such. 3) while trying to open the apps from my macbook on the iMac, it said it didnt have the right software to open these apps.
I am so computer illiterate so someone please help!!! Also, i do not have internet in my new apartment yet so if there is a way to make this happen without using the internet that would be preferred. sorry for the horrible spelling and poorly written paragraph.
    THANK YOU!!

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

  • Connecting a new property to the main line

I am thinking of purchasing an old farm cottage and was wondering what the total cost would be to have BT connected from the main line, which sits to the side of the property?
    Thanks

You would need to contact BT for that information they will be able to contact Openreach should a survey be needed

  • Mouse moves by itself down to dock (even when physically unplugged and no network connection) and starts clicking open the applications in a row! Always does the same thing every few hours. What is happening?

    Craziest thing ever.
I cannot find this happening to anyone anywhere online, but this is seriously the weirdest thing I've seen in 20 years.  I've done everything I can think of to try and prevent this, EXCEPT for two things... one of which is being tested right now:  login as different user and reinstall the OS.  For the past 30 minutes, I've left it logged in as another user to see if it happens again.
    Things I've tried:
    - New mouse
    - New keyboard
    - No mouse or keyboard
    - Repair permissions
    - Reset PRAM
    - Turn off any extraneous applications that launch at login
    - Firewall blocks / Stealth mode
    - Remote management OFF
    - No network connection at all
No matter what we tried above, it still happens.  Again, I am currently logged in as a completely different user to see if it happens here.
If you were to see it in action, it would freak you out.  The mouse literally just starts jumping around on the dock opening applications.  We have not found a pattern for when it actually happens. It just happens.
Any ideas, friends of the forums?  Thank you in advance.

Thank you so much BDAQUA and RRFS.
I can't confirm it, but I think I just figured out what is causing the issue.  This is a school computer, and there is a SMART Board hooked up to the Mac via USB.  Thanks to BDAqua's post, I realized the "ghost" vanished and never came back when the SMART Tools application was closed.  Through all of this troubleshooting, I failed to realize a GIANT mouse was still attached to the computer.
I have not returned to the classroom to confirm any of this, but I would bet that either something is on the SMART Board causing the "touch" to occur or the software just needs to be reinstalled.  Again, I've confirmed nothing, but it sounds like it MUST be related to the touch screen SMART Board.
Thank you all who gave this any thought. I apologize for not physically removing all peripherals... I hope this works.  I'll be back there tomorrow.  If you don't hear from me again, that was definitely the issue.
    Thanks again!
