My iMac with Leopard does not see Vista PCs on the network

My iMac with Leopard cannot see any of my Vista PCs on my network. I have an older G5 iMac (tiger) and the Leopard system see that one just fine. My older G5 sees my Leopard mac and all of the Vista computers. I just want the Leopard mac to see the Vista computers. Please help.

I'm having the same problem. It was literally working one minute and not the next. I also had this issue with my MBP but it was never resolved. I can ping the vista machine but not connect to the folder structure. This is really annoying because my vista machine is acting as a server and I need to remote desktop from the iMac to the windows machine.
Any ideas people?

I am trying to print from my iPad to a HP 3520 printer using AirPrint. I have connected the printer to my local wireless network and it confirms it is connected. However my iPad can not find the printer on the network when it searches for it.  I am using an AOL supplied router and have read reports that this can cause problems.  Is this the case? How do I resolve this issue?

    Hi,
That indeed can be caused by a router as Apple's AirPrint uses Bonjour to communicate with the device.
Bonjour Services relies on IP Multicasting which have to be supported by your network.
To isolate the problem, please follow the steps below to enable Wireless Direct and directly connect the iPad to your printer (which means without using the router).
Once the iPad connected to the Wireless Direct network try printing and check for any difference.
If the printer can be found via the temporary connection but not through your router that indicates lack of Multicast support or wrong configuration of your router.
In such a case be sure to contact AOL and check if the router support Multicasting, if so ensure it is enabled within your router configuration, as well ensure it have the latest firmware installed..

Firefox any version Mac, has a bug were it does not see or ask for the proxy username and password. This happens if you use a virtual tagged interface. A recent network University policy change. The only way to fix this, is if you use a manual proxy configuration in Firefox. So all 100 + uni iMac's can only use Safari as I would need to do a profile push to all 300 students and I am unsure what file carries the proxy information.

Mac user, OSX 10.9.4. CS6, in the new Blur gallery the pin with adjusters does not appear for any of the three blur filters. This may have occurred since taking adobe watermark add-on and updating Bridge. any ideas?

I am using Mac OSX 10.10.1 (memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, graphics Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB)
and my version of Photoshop is CC.
I ran into  the same problem: I am able to place and view Blur Gallery pins but the adjustment wheel or outer control arounf the pin that allows you to tweak the blur value disappeared after being initially available. Additionally, the placed pin or pins appear to flicker on screen (while in blur gallery mode) until committing the change with the OK button. I have tried restarting both the computer and Photoshop, as well as what some other users have suggested such as View>Show>Edit pins turned on. Nothing has helped so far. I am still able to adjust the blur amount  from the Blur Tools slider. thank you.

  • WRT54GX2 does not pick up time from the network...

I have a WRT54GX2 running firmware 1.01.14 and it does not pick up time from the network. I have PacBell (now AT&T) as an ISP and a DSL link. My old Netgear router picks up the time immediately. I am trying to figure out if I have a defective unit or if this is a firmware bug. Without the time, I can not use any of the scheduling functions, nor measure uptime.
Does anyone have this router with the time working? I have set the appropriate time zone.
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Thanks for you ideas.
The backup file appears to be binary. However in searching through it I did see 3 time related text strings, namely: clock.stdtime.gov.tw, time-b.nist.gov and time.nist.gov. I can successfully ping clock.stdtime.gov.tw and time.nist.gov. This reinforces my belief that my ISP (AT&T nee PacBell) is not blocking access.
however ntp works on TCP port 123. ping works on udp 7 afaik. if your old netgear works i guess this is a router problem.
have you reset the router yet? afaik press reset button for 10 seconds.
you will however loose all settings and need to enter them again. it may however fix the issue.Message Edited by linksysinfo on 07-09-2006 03:09 AM

  • Mac OSX 10.6.2 Does Not 'see' Vista/XP Machines

    Hi there,
I've read through endless pages of help topics online and cannot seem to find a solution to my specific problem so if this comes across as a repeated question please point me in the right direction as i have exhausted my brain trying all the different suggestions i have read.
I bought my mac, preloaded with OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard, two days ago and immediately took it out of the box and connected it to my home network via wireless. When i first connected to my network i am pretty sure i was able to 'see' all the other computers available on my network (three in total two running Vista Home Premium and one running XP Media Center) i updated the mac as recommended and ever since the update i have not been able to 'see' the other computers on my network.
I am able to connect to them via the 'smb://COMPUTERNAME' command in 'Connect To A Server' but i have to do this every time i log onto my mac and this is, to me, really annoying. The other issue i face is i am not able to print using the printer connected to my XP machine when all other computers connected to the network can. I can ping both ways from all machines and the Windows OS machines can all 'see' the mac and place files in its shared folder without the need to enter passwords or connect via 'computer name' or 'ip address.'
Is this an issue a lot of mac, OS X 10.6.2 SL, users are faced with or am i the only one?
As i've said i can connect to the Windows OS PCs from the mac ,but only via the 'Connect To A Server' option, and pass files in both directions. Is there an App or update that will allow me to log onto my mac, click finder and the Windows OS PCs be listed in the sidebar?
    Extra Information:
Windows Vista PCs are: Home Premium Service Pack 2 with Norton Internet Security 2010 (firewall enabled via NIS:2010)
Windows XP PCs are: Media Center Edition Service Pack 3 with Norton Internet Security 2010 (firewall enabled via NIS:2010)
    Router: Netgear DG834GT Router
Wireless Security: WPA Personal, MAC access authentication, IP address allocation
    Thanks,

Let's try to deal with the sharing issue first. Your new problem is very common under Snow. However, it turns up with different timing in an idiosyncratic way.
At first, my shares did not show up under shared in finder windows. I, then, of course, used "Connect to Server" to connect to the shares--both Mac and PC. I found that the more I kept the shares active the more likely they were show up under shared. Then, I discovered that if I kept the computers from sleeping during the period of needed access they would tend to stay in shared without nearly so much keeping the connections active.
If you do not like the above work around, then there are two other possibilities. You can elect to show mounted items on your desktop. Do that and connect to each share. Then, go > users > unlock > + login options > try dragging the mounted shares to the login item window. If successful, then the shares should be available at login.
Another approach is to mount and connect as indicated above. Then, making an alias to the share should at least make things faster.

  • My new imac w/ fw800 does not see my canon xl2

I'm trying to connect my Canon xl2 to my new imac utilizing fw800 port. I purchased an adaptor off of Apple's website they recommended and the camera does not show up. The camera is on and turned to VCR mode. Any Ideas.

Have you checked with Canon that your camera is compatible with Macs and has the latest driver?

  • Windows 7 does not see other computers in My Network Places

    Hi all,
I have a weird issue with a behavior of Windows 7 machines. The setup is as following: domain with WinSrv 2008R2 DC-s, functional level of the domain is WinSrv2008R2, there are Windows XP and WIndows 7 machines on the network. Users use My Network places
to access shares on other people-s PC's. Everything was fine while we had WinSrv2003 domain controller. After it was upgraded to WinSrv2008R2, Windows 7 machined cannot see all of the computers in My network places. To make things even worse, there are no
rules - some Win 7 machines see others just fine, some see 30 PC's (out of 100), some see all after doing a refresh...all sorts of different situations. I have no idea where else to look. Can it be some DNS setting that I missing? Any help is much appreciated
    Dino

    Hi Dino,
As I known, by default computer browser service is not started in windows 2008 server and higher OS.
You should enable NetBios over TCP/IP on the NCI settings and start the browser service in the services.msc and it should show you all the list of computers connected on
    network.
we should enable Network Discovery in the Network and Sharing Center first.
Please also temporarily turn off firewall on each machine.
In addition, please modify relevant settings on Windows 7 machine.
    a. Click Start and open Control Panel.
    b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings".
    c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options:
    "Turn on Network Discovery",
"Turn on file and printer sharing",
"Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders",
    "Turn off password protected sharing"
If the issue persists, try to access another computer by entering
\\computername in the Start Search box. Let us know if it works properly.
For a test, you may also disable IPv6 in adapter properties.
    a. Click the Start Button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter.
    b. Double click to expand "Network Adaptors".
    c. Right click your network card and click Properties.
    d. Click Advance tab. High light Speed & Duplex
    e. If you would like to use the full functionality, please set the Value to the highest Full.
    f. Click OK.
    Hope it helps.

  • Itunes does not see my devices since the last upgrade

Not only does it not see my mini and my phone, I ended up losing my mini completely. They replaced the mini because it died and would not come back on. Now I cannot restore it, nor does iTunes recognize my iPhone either. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled itunes per the instructions to remove all compontents and still nothing. I am have pretty much had it with itunes and this crap everytime there is an update.
so now I sit here with an phone and mini that wont sync, and I cannot restore my mini but through icloud which then looses all my apps that have to be downloaded and reorganized again (198 apps) this is not "just working" apple...
    what gives?

    Hey Bmoney2221,
That sounds frustrating! I'm here to help. It sounds like both of your devices are not recognized in iTunes for Windows. In my experience, the following resource usually provides a solution:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
The most relevant information may be in Section 5: "Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed". If those steps do not immediately resolve your issue, please follow the rest of the article.
For more troubleshooting on recovery mode, you can also refer to the following:
    iPhone - iTunes Troubleshooting Assistant

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
I've already turned my SMB in System Pref/Sharing
That won't do anything. That only allows sharing From Mac To PC.
additional information, sometimes, i was able to but see sometimes i wasn't, depends on my luck.
Maverick says Luck has nothing to do with it
    router ip 192.168.2.1
    target PC 192.168.2.2
Can you ping the PC? That's the first step. In other words, can you see it on the most basic level?
    Open a terminal and enter
    ping 192.168.2.2
if that's the PC in question.
If you get a non-null response you are half-way there.
On the PCs, be sure you have file sharing turned on and also be sure you choose simple file sharing.
On the Mac, in the Finder Go menu, enter the IP of the PC where it says "Connect to Server" and you should get a login window. Enter the user id and password for an existing account on the PC.
That usually takes care of it.
    pls help.
thanks in advance and sorry for my bad English

  • IMac 27" FaceTime does not see the camera

I have 2 27" IMacs (1 at home and 1 at my office).
I have tried using FaceTime on both computers. However the FaceTime app  says  "no camera available. To use FaceTime Connect a camera."
    This occurs on both computers.
I am running the latest version of Mavericks on both computers.  Both are 3.4 GHz Intel Core (7) with 16 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3 memory Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac13,2 Processor Name: Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 3.4 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 8 MB Memory: 16 GB Boot ROM Version: IM131.010A.B05 SMC Version (system): 2.11f16
Why won't it see its own built-in camera? What can I do to make face time work?

My 27" iMac camera has stopped working in Facetime and Photo Booth as well. :s

  • TS1398 Hi...My wifi is not working. It is not dimmed out. When I turn it on it does not pick up any of the networks around me (I know there are a lot of networks available) I have tried resetting my wifi with the steps above but it still does not work. Pl

I have the most recent update.

That you are getting the BONG is a good sign, it's unlikely to be hardware if you are able to hear that.
Start by running SW update. It's not that there is a specific fix, but when updating it may rewrite some system files which may get this going again purely as a side affect. Worth a go, and should not harm the system.
Try reset the PRAM - Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Hopefully one of these quick fixes works, otherwise we'll need to try isolate the issue next - so if still having a problem, I'd try create a new user and login as that user to see if the issue persists (which will tell us if it's system wide or user specific)

  • My laptop/desktop (XP) does not print to P1102W on the network.

The printer was installed through the USB port on a desktop (XP).  The configuration page shows a an IP address.  Another desktop and the laptop will print when hardwired to the router.  A wireless connection to the router by either computer is active  for Internet work BUT will not print out on the P1102W.   If I look at the printer option on control panel it shows an "error printing" message.   How can I fix this?
