  • My iMac won't connect to my network

My iMac won't connect to the internet anymore. I can only get internet connection through someone elses network.
It connected okay to my network when I first plugged it in. Everything was coming up roses and such. I'm thinking though it might have something to do with my pc. I gave my mom my pc and cleaned off everything. After re-installing the drivers, programs, and re-installing the wireless info on the pc, my mac won't connect to the network
There is a password for connecting to the network a wep 128. But my mac keeps telling me the password is wrong. And the only way to connect to the interent for me is via the Dlink connection.
We have a Linksys Wireless Router (WRT54G)
My mom has windows XP with wireless capability
My mac has the airport extreme already in the computer
I'm sure the problem is something really simple and minor and that I will kick myself for not figuring it out. :S
But any help would be great
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The only other connection I get is through a unsecured dlink.
I tried using network assistant to get on the linksys network but when I put in the password for it I keep getting a message that says invalid.

  • IMac won't connect to the to the wireless network and internet when a laptop is connected

When a windows laptop is connected wirelessly to my router and the internet my Imac won't connect. If the Imac is connected wirelessly first it turns off when I connect the laptop. the iMac has once given me a message about the laptop using the same IP address. Can anyine help, I have been putting up with this for a year now and it's a real pain. Any help appreciated Many thanks
    Joel

Check the company that you get your internet service from. High speed internet through a phone service modem allows for one connection as the modem is controlling the IP addresses. If you add a wireless to this connection, your modem will still allow for only one connection at a time. The wireless modem should be "in charge". Call the internet service provider and see if they will walk you through how to give permission to your wireless to assign IP addresses and not the modem they supplied.
If your Mac and PC both want the same address, you can tell your Mac to use a manual IP address. Go to:
    system preferences/network
write down the IP address, subnet mask, and router numbers. On dropdown Configure IPv4 choose "using DHCP with manual address". Now put back in all the numbers you wrote down except in the IP address box, change the last digit to a higher or lower number.
Now the PC will be happy with the IP it chose and the Mac will, also.

  • IMac won't connect to network laser printer

    Hi,
I've recently purchased a new 27" iMac 3.4 GHz with 16 GB RAM running OS 10.6.8. Everything has been running smoothly until this morning when I accidently switched off my HP LaserJet 4000n. After I turned it back on, I found that I could no longer print from the iMac to the Lasterjet any more. So, (stupidly) I thought I'd remove to printer from the Fax / Printer selection in System preferences and simply click + to add new printer and reinstrall the HP LaserJet 4000n. But here's the problem, my new iMac won't let me add a new printer because it can't find the HP LaserJet. I have tried everything. I even got a message saying the Appletalk was not turned on - interesting as 10.6.8 doesn't have appletalk any more. I did however find that Appletalk had been switched off on the G5, so I clicked it back on, but i still couldn't locate the HP LaserJet on the iMac. I can get the iMac to print if I connect to the HP LaserJet 4000n as a shaed prionter by turning on the G5 and using the Bonjour shared prointer facility, but I got the imac so I could sell the G5. I don't want to have to keep turning on another computer just to print off a recipe for chicken soup.
I spent about 6 hours on the phone to Apple support today with an elevated support person, but even they gave up in the end after we had tried everything. I even tried to copy the system file to another HD to see if I booted up just form the system if it would connect to the printer in the absence of all applications, but couldn't as i kept getting an error type 8003 message about 45 seconds into the copy process. As you may imagine I am seriously frustrated and not a little pee'd off.
Any clues as to what's happening, and also, how come the Apple support guy didn't ask me if i had backed everything up on Time Machine - which I do. Odd.
It's probably too late fore that option now anyway as he got me to renew the DHCP leases - so my router will have different numbers now.

    I'm using the same printer with my late 2010 iMac (3.2GHz i3, 27") running OS X 10.6.7.
Took me a long while to get it to work, because I'd had it set up to work with my G4 running OS 9 via AppleTalk, and the iMac needs to connect via IP.
The setup that finally worked for me -
In the Print/Fax control pane in System Preferences, click the add button. In the Add Printer window, click the IP item in the header bar. In the new screen -
Protocol - set to "HP JetDirect - Socket"
Address: enter the IP address of the printer. If you don't already have that, you need to get it from the printer itself. To do that, use the "Menu" and "Item" buttons on the printer to step through the various offerings until you get to the Configuration page - select to print that page. The printer's IP address will be included on that page.
The IP address was not included on that page when I first printed the page. I think this was because it had originally been set up to use AppleTalk. The solution was to do a Cold Reset of the printer. To do that, turn the printer off. Hold the Go button down and turn it back on. Release the Go button when you see resetting activity in the message screen on the printer. Once I did that, the next time I printed the Configuration page the IP address was included.
Leave the rest of the Add Printer screen blank.
That should take care of it.

  • My brand new iMac won't connect to the internet - the Air is fine?

    Hi All,
Loved my Air so much I bought an Imac today to do some serious work - but it won't connect to the internet.  It won't load any external webpages, the wireless symbol in the menu bar is at full strength and in settings it says its connected to the modem.  Its also finally recognising local time.  It can also 'see' my Macbook Air in the 'Migration Assistant' but doesn't connect.  The Air can't find the Imac in the 'migration assistant' and just spins.  I've rebooted the modem, turned both on and off, checked  Safari settings eg extensions (none loaded - its new today).
Essentially I've not been able to view a webpage with the new Imac at all - very frustrating and disappointing. (The Air was a breeze to set up).
I'm not very technical so does anyone have any suggestions?  Or do I just return it?  TIA.

  • IMac won't connect to Wifi until other devices have connected

When I switch on my iMac (before switching on any other devices) it won't connect to my wifi (Fritzbox). It just says that the password is invald. However, once either my tablet (Android 4), Kindle or Windows laptop have been switched on and have automatically connected, suddenly the iMac connects.
I have spoken with my IP (who also supplied the Fritzbox) but they were no help.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or could anyone offer a possible sollution?
    Thanks, Xob

Why not delete or at least rename your network plist files and start fresh, when all else fails this usually works for me.
Turn off your wifi, delete it from the system preferences,,,,network settings
    Now go here
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
and move the following files to the desktop (if they exist)
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    preferences.plist
    com.apple.nat.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    Settings.plist
Now go back to system preferences and setup your networking again "add wifi, etc..."

  • IMac won't connect to Internet after trying to download mac so x

So I was trying to download Mac OS version 10.6.4 (the CD that came with my iMac) and about fifteen minutes in it stopped and restarted. Well I didn't think anything of it because I was late for work as it was. I tried to get on today and my iMac is super slow, it won't connect to the Internet, and IF it does it only stays connected for about 10 minutes. What's wrong? What can I do to fix it on my own, the closes store is two hours away and I really don't want to that?

As we say back home you really screwed the pooch. OK Put your install disk back in and restart the computer while holding down the C key. This will start you up from the disk so you can access Disk utility from the installer program. Click the first aid tab, select your drive and run repair disk.

  • My iMac won't connect to the internet.

We just bought an iMac and it won't connect to our existing internet network.  My daughter, who just bought an iPod touch, was able to connect to the internet and our current PC works fine, so we know the problem isn't with the internet.  The iMac picks up the wireless network signal, but it won't accpet the network security key, which is correct.  Help!

Call AppleCare (you have 90 days of free support) and they can coach you through it. When I got my first Mac I had a similar issue, at the time I was using a Belkin router. What I was told by Belkin was I need a * symbol to proceed the password. So if the password is something like
ABCD1234 change it on the iMac to *ABCD1234
I've since changed to an Apple Airport Extreme that works perfectly.

  • My iMac won't connect to my wireless shaw modem.  It shows as connected but not to the internet?

It was all working fine then I started my computer today and it would no longer connect to my shaw wireless modem.  It now says it is connected to the wifi but not the internet.  HELP!  I need to be able to use the internet on my iMac.

  • IMac Won't Connect to 5ghz Airport Extreme?

    Hi,
Brought home a new 17" iMac (2.0, 1G Ram, Superdrive) and an Airport Extreme. I set up two networks, one for iMac and my wife's Macbook to run on the 802.11n (5ghz) of the Extreme, and the other a "g" network for the older laptops. I set this up by using the "secret" published in this month's Macworld. Turns out my iMac won't run (or even see) the 5ghz "n" network, but does see the 2.4ghz "n" network. It seems speedy enough at 2.4 but I'd like it work with 5ghz. Apple's site says the 1.83ghz iMac won't do this but that's it--I assume the 2.0ghz version will. Any help is appreciated.
    Joe

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I did run that disk. I followed the instructions on the Apple site to check the Network Info utility to make sure the "n" appeared for the airport. Not sure what to do next. My wife's Macbook (which we also purchased yesterday--we made Steve very happy!) sits about four feet from my iMac and works just fine on the 5ghz band. Strange.

  • My iMac won't connect to the wifi it has been connecting to for a year.  All other devices still work.  Any suggestions?

IiMac won't connect to the wifi anymore. All other devices still work with wifi any suggestions?

    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

  • Imac won't connect to internet

    Hello,
My iMac will not connect to the internet correctly.  I know the internet is working because my wife is using her laptop wirelessly, and my software updates are still working.
Some pages open, but are corrupted and not laid out correctly, (amazon and BBC News).  I have tried to connect wirelessly, and failed.  I have emptied the cache and reset safari. I have tried firefox and the same thing has happened.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
