My iMac won't login- what should I do?

I have an iMac 24" Core 2 Extreme 2.8 GHz 2 GB RAM 500 GB 7200 RPM 7,1 (http://goo.gl/0HiZQ)
It is currently unusable. I just installed Lion when it came out (I started the download the minute it came out) and I cannot use it. When what I think caused the problem happened, I was having FileVault encrypt my hard drive. I had prevented the computer from sleeping so it and Spotlight could do their thing. They had been working for a while when I came back and realized that it was frozen. The clock had not changed in a while and nothing would move. I did a button shutdown and I tried to reboot immediately. I'm not sure what happened next, but it was either:
(1) It showed a white screen then the Apple logo and a spinning progress icon. Now, whan I get this, the Apple logo is eventually replaced with a flashing crossed out circle. (I just did it again with safe mode and it wasn't flashing, so maybe I made that up.)
(2) It showed a white screen then the Apple logo and a spinning progress icon then a bar that did not move much then later went back to just the icon (I never actually saw it finish or move much since I walked away since it was taking so long) I think that this event, which no longer occurs, usually ended with the Apple logo being replaced by a stylized computer window with a flashing question mark. (I think it was flashing, but now that I saw the crossed out cirecle not flashing, I can't be sure of anything)
(3) It showed my icon to login almost immediately and then my password made it show the Apple logo and then it and a spinning progress icon. I have tried rebooting and one of the numbered events happened almost randomly (at least I think so, but I must have been doing things differently). Recently, I have been able to get my icon every time, and have booted into the recovery OS to no avail. My password will not unlock the hard drive to reinstall lion or to reset the password or anything else. It seems to stick on my correct password for much longer than incorrect passwords. My recovery key will not unlock my computer either, it just does 1 even if the code is incorrect. Now, whenever I get 1, the computer eventually turns off.
Target disk mode has caused the computer to show the large moving FireWire icon and have the drive show up in the other computer's disk utility, but never mount on that other machine. But that may not be caused by the problematic computer. Trying safe mode causes 1.

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

IPhone keeps saying connect to iTunes but won't restore what should I do?

I bought a 5C and it was working fine, but needed an update and had the person I bought the phone off had their iCloud still on. I asked them for the password but as he didn't know me he said he didn't trust me so I looked online and it said to force it to restore I should put it in DFU mode then plug it in to iTunes and it will restore. Now it just displays a iTunes logo (in red) and a lightning cable and arrow. Basically telling me to plug the phone into iTunes but i do and it won't restore, i try to restore it and it says error 1, 3,18 or 2006. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! What should I do?

Hmm, Firefox normally doesn't have a problem displaying login forms.
Do you notice any notification icons in the address bar to the left of the URL? These could include a "shield" icon ([[How does content that isn't secure affect my safety?]]), a plugin notification, or other potential issues. Try clicking any unfamiliar icons for more information.
And of course, this standard advice:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
To rule out a potential extension conflict, you also could test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to disable extensions, disable various advanced features, and disable some custom settings. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)

this picture was taken 3-4 hours back, new it is 12,3/13,8GB, & its with firefox, is it normal or is one of the add causing it, to fix 1 issue i tried refresh, but it did not work then i overwrote the files with old files what were created with refresh (the issue i tried to fix with refresh got solved somehow), then i manually downloaded https-everywhere newest version, + HTML5 Add-on what u will see on this picture:

Giving Old iMac as a Gift - What Should I do to Secure It?

I have the original 17" iMac. I just bought a new 24" and want to give the 17" to a friend. I'm wondering what I should do to make the 17" secure - other than reformatting and reinstalling.
I have heard that all I have to do is create an account, give it the same privileges as I currently have (administrator) then log into the new account and delete the old administrator account. But I'm thinking all my information will still be on the hard drive.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Any links to Apple Support Documents would also be appreciated.

Have you ever had any personal information on the iMac that you do not want to be public?
If so, you will want to overwrite the drive with zeros and then reinstall from the iMac restore discs. See KB 107437 , Mac OS X: How to zero all data on a disk.

IMac won't boot; what to try?

I bought my wife an Intel iMac about a month ago to woo her from Windows.
Yesterday, a lightning bolt blew a hole in the roof of our house, and her computer will not boot up anymore.
If I press the "On" switch on the back, only the white light (at the bottom right of the main screen) will light. No other signs of life (no chime, no display).
The lightning bolt destroyed our DSL modem and router. Except for a Mac Mini (which only had its network interface destroyed), all items on the network directly attached to the router was destroyed (hubs, switches, Airport Base Station). Anything beyond the hubs/switches survived.
Any advise, insights, suggestions, etc. will be appreciated.
I will also appreciate advice on where to send the computer to for repair.
I understand that not even Mac can withstand the power of a thunderbolt, but I want to resolve this as fast and smooth as possible.

Hopefully everything on your home network was covered on your homeowners/renters insurance policy. I would contact the claims department ASAP. Do what they recommend whether they want to try repairs or just writing everything off. Apple, of course, would recommend an Apple Certified Service Provider for repairs. Most stores that sell Apple computers can usually provide or recommend such service.

Old iMac that needs work, what should I do?

My children have been using our old iMac for games, etc. It's pretty messed up. I kind of want to start from scratch, erase everything, and install system 10.5. I see no reason to keep System 9, should I keep it on there? How do I erase everything and do a clean install?

How old are your kids? I set up G3 iMacs for pre K - 2nd grade and use OS 9.2.2. There's still a lot of great/cheap software in thrift stores and garage sales that only run in OS 9. Titles like Living Books ( Grandma and Me, Mom and me,..) Cat in the Hat, Kids Pix ( Even the newest 4 Deluxe )

That would depend on if your Mac meets the system requirements. Your iMac would have to be 1 GHz and above. ( technically 866 MHz ) and have sufficient RAM.
Otherwise Tiger 10.4.2-11, iLife.
How do I erase everything and do a clean install?

My 24" iMac won't boot, what am I doing wrong?

It starts and goes to a small window in multiple languages that says I must restart my computer. Tried to start in safe mode by holding down the shift key but wouldn't come up in safe mode. Second tried taking memory stick out and putting back in but still same thing. Next tried disconnecting power cord for 30 seconds then holding in power button for 10 seconds until I heard a beep and still the same message comes up.
Please help I have a lot of stuff on this computer!

If that's the one, it only came with 1 GB standard. It can have up to 4 GB (officially supported by Apple), while some have put in 6 GB and it worked. In any case, unless you paid extra to get 4 GB, the standard configuration only came with 1 GB... in which case you have only one module. If that goes bad and you don't happen to have another module lying around (who does...) to test it, you can run the Apple Hardware Test from your install disk (run the extended mode) - here is how:

For now, I'd bet it's the RAM... you could seize the opportunity and get new (and more) RAM; it's quite inexpensive at the moment - check macsales.com.
