When I go to Settings>Messages>Send & Recieve my phone number is in grey and I can't select i!
Please help!

Hello gomoll,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to start a new conversation from a phone number and not an email address. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
The greyed out phone number is under how you can be reached.
When you start a conversation is another option you can change.
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage - Apple Support
The telephone number will be dimmed when you view these settings on an iPhone.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Have a nice day,
Mario

  • Imessages are being sent from my email instead of my phone

When I send iMessages from my iPhone 5S or my Macbook Pro, the recipients say they're coming from my email address and not my phone. How do I rectify this so the messages all come from the iMessage and not email?

If you have no intention of using iMessage, but have used it in the past, you will have to deregister your number. Then you will have to make sure you have a texting plan on your account. If others have messaged you with iMessage, they will have to remove your contact and any messages from their devices so you are no longer registered on their devices as using iMessage. iMessage sends messages from different email addresses when it used to just say my name associated with my cell number. How can I change it back?

  • How do I get Messages to stop sending from my email address instead of my phone number?

I've had several people tell me that texts I've sent from my iPhone have been showing up as <myemailadd>@mac.com instead of my phone number. It started doing that under iOS7. I don't want my email address sent with my phone-originated texts. I don't want my email address broadcast to people that shouldn't have it.
So what do I need to change to make sure that phone texts originate from my phone number, home texts show my email address, and both are viewable on both my iPhone and iMac?

I think its fixed. I had to sign iMessages in on my Apple ID, but then deselect my email addresses to make it behave the way it should. Now if I could get iMessage to only send response alerts to the last device I used, instead of late night texts going to every device I own in the house and waking everyone up.
For some reason, the free iCloud address I automatically received (when Apple was trying to force people to leave Mac.com) is "hardwired" into iMessage. People were also getting texts from that address even though I was on my phone. I tried to delete it but iOS tells me I can't. I don't use that address, I won't ever use it, too bad I can't make it go away.

  • Sending from multiple email addresses.

    I have multiple gmail addresses:
    sue.OBM AT gmail.com
    sue.realestate AT gmail.com
    sue.dogwalker AT gmail.com
(ps above emails are actually made up)
I'm using the Apple mail client that comes with my iMac and when I send an email it keeps using only one of the servers above.
Even when I change the "sent from" address to sue.OBM AT gmail.com  it sends from sue.dogwalker AT gmail.com.
And of course the person receiving it sees its from a dog walker so they either trash it as junk because they don't recognize it or they find out their business manager is a dog walker. I don't want that.
When I open up the server list it just says Gmail: and lists all of the addresses I have, they are not listed individually like my icloud addresses are. So I can't pick a specific server to send from and it's always going from one I don't want.  I want to be able to pick and choose which server to send from depending on whom I'm sending to.
Are there some Mac/Gmail experts out there? Is there some way for me to fix this? It's getting embarrassing! I did post to a Google forum and they said I need to set it up correctly in my mail client. But when I add a gmail address it doesn't specifically ask for a server.  (and I don't exactly know what I'd put if it did)
Thanks a bunch, Happy Turkey Day!
    Susan
PS I had to change the pretend email address above as Apple wouldn't allow me to put an email address in this post.

Could you confirm what you mean by true alias? I'm not familiar with that you mean. Currently (to recap) i have multiple accounts linked to my gmail account (all gmail accounts) and i have it set up so i can pick the email address i want to use to send an email online in gmail. After setting up IMAP (not POP) i put in "[email protected], [email protected]" in the account settings which gives me the drop down box and allows me to select which email address i want to sent messages from within mail.app. Now i've sent multiple messages to friends to test this, and here are my results. When responding to an email if i select either of the drop down options it will send from that selected address. When composing an e-mail, even if i pick the options, it will default to my first e-mail address.
It just won't let me pick the one i want to send from when i'm composing a new message, but it will let me choose when i reply to an email. sort of a strange occurrence. I know there is an option under "compose" in the preferences that let me choose the DEFAULT e-mail, but i'm assuming that just picks the first e-mail to show up in the drop down. I'm just not sure why it only works when replying, not replying AND composing.

  • How to send from alternate email address?

Along with my regular email address, I have a business email address that is forwarded to my regular account.
In Eudora, I used to be able to set up a new "Personality" that would allow me to send email using the business address, and have that show up in the "reply-to" field as well.
How can I do this in Mail ?

go to mail>preferences>accounts, select your email account, then in the email address field just below the description field, enter all the email addresses you would like to use as an alias, separated by a comma, then save. You will then be able to send from this email account with all the email addresses you keyed in.
Alternatively, you could set up a home email account and a business email account in Leopard Mail, and then have the ability to send/receive/view from one account to another
    hope this helps

  • My imessage texts are being sent from my email address and not my phone number.

How do I change so imessages are sent from my phone number again and not my email?

To identify your iMessages as coming from your phone number go to Settings>Messages>Receive At>Caller ID and select your phone number rather than your email address.  Also, the email can't be removed because this is the email address linked to the Apple ID you are using for iMessage.  If you really want to remove it you have to go to Settings>Messages>Receive At, tap the Apple ID at the top and sign out.

  • How do i always send from one email address, even when replying?

    Hello all
I just moved to MAIL after 12 years of Eudora.
I’m MAIL 2.1.3 in Mac OS 10.4.11 PPC.
    my problem
People send emails to me at 2 different email addresses. Both of them are stored on two different servers, and thus two different POP setups. Let us call them Eunice.net and Poppy.net
I have MAIL setup to pull my emails off both different servers. I think it would be best to always send emails from one particular email address, ([email protected]) using the one particular email POP server. (Eunice.net)
My problem is that when I get an email sent to me at Poppy.net, want to hit reply and have it go out by way of the Eunice.net SMPT (POP) server (and with the return address as [email protected]
The problem is that I can’t find a way to configure my Preferences/Accounts to make this happen. As of now, I hit reply to an email sent to [email protected]… and it tries to send the email out via Poppy.net (and fails) - i get an error messsage.
    Thanks for any help!

Mail, Preferences, Composing, Send New Mail from is indeed set properly - so this is why i'm baffled.
Note that this setting is "Send New Mail from", in other words, when you create a New message, not Reply to an existing message. When you create a new message, does it do send from the specified account? Note that this will only work if no message is selected, else it will create the new message using the account of the selected email (assuming Mail can figure out the account from the header).
The following is copied from the Mail help (note how it handles New messages and Replies differently):
*+How is the "From" address determined in a new message or a reply?+*
+Mail will try to determine the correct "From" address to use when you compose a new message or reply to a message.+
*+When you compose a new message, the From address is selected in the following order:+*
+If a message is currently selected, Mail uses the account the message belongs to, if it can be determined from the headers of the message, or by the IMAP mailbox the message resides in.+
+If an IMAP mailbox is currently selected, Mail uses the account the IMAP mailbox belongs to.+
+If no message or mailbox is selected, Mail uses the email address for the first account listed in the Accounts pane of Mail Preferences.+
*+When you reply to a message, the From address is selected in the following order:+*
+The To and Cc fields are compared to email addresses you have set up in Mail Preferences. Mail uses the first matching address it finds as the reply address.+
+If the message is in an IMAP mailbox, Mail uses the email address for the account the mailbox belongs to.+
+If all else fails, Mail uses the email address for the first account listed in the Accounts pane of Mail Preferences.+
One way to ensure that the messages are sent using the Eunice.net SMPT (POP) server is to set that server as the SMTP server in your Poppy mail account (putting your Eunice settings in the SMTP server settings dialog). That won't address the ReplyTo issue (although you can set that manually in the ReplyTo field, accessed via the button next to the subject line).
    Hope this helps...

  • How do I send from different email address

I would like to use a clients email address when I send out thier survey form.  It is more recognizable and less likely to get caught is spam filter compared to using my email address.

Thanks for your response.  I am using the distribution function within FormsCentral.  I guess what you are saying is that if I send my email invite (with link to the FormsCentral form) and  my email client supports using a different "from" address then I am good to go.    The alternative I was thinking about was changing my user credential/email address  for this one project so this different email address was used…. But this comes with some consequences I am not sure I want to manage.

  • Send from an email address without adding the account

I have a work email and a gmail account that forward to my icoud accout. In my mail app I only have the icloud account added to keep things clean. However, when sending email, I want to be able to send from either my company or my gmail address (not the @icloud.com or @me.com). This was very easy to do on the Mac version of Mail, but I don't see any way to do this on iphone or ipad.
One work around I thought of was to add the accounts to my app, but then my inbox mail account is doubling up (accounting for the message in the work inbox and my icloud inbox) which is incredibly annoying. My plan was to filter the messages coming into my work/gmail accounts as "read" as soon as they came in. BUT I now can't find any way to add rules/filtering in the ipad mail app.
Anyone have any insight or other workarounds. your help would be MUCH appreciate.

    Hi mmarenyi
In short it impossible to send emails from Apple's mail from an account that is not added through settings.
To provide some advice rather than adding the account due the amount of emails - I would suggest getting the Gmail app from the App store which will allow you to fetch your emails from your iPad without getting them in Apple's mail. If the other work email address is a common one such as: hotmail, gmail, big pond, yahoo ect, see if there is an app to download. Most email companies now have apps on the App store for download. You could if your work email does not have an app simply pick up your emails through safari.
I am assuming that your iPad is using iOS 7 or later, however these instructions will work for iOS 5 or later.
    To get the Gmail app:
              1.          Go to the App store
              2.          Search for Gmail
              3.          Click on the free button
              4.          Wait for it to download
              5.          Put in your email and password
              6.          Then you will be able to access your gmail account without using Apple's mail
    Enjoy and Many Thanks

  • IPhone sending from wrong email address

Since loading OS7, my mail arbitrarily started sending from my gmail account instead of my primary mail account. Even after ensuring my primary was designated as such, reloading outgoing server password and turned OFF the mail function on my gmail acct, all outgoing messages are still from my gmail address. This is really frustrating as clients are beginning to reply to emails to the wrong address. Please help!

If you haven't already, I would open Mail> then click on the word "Mail" in the upper left corner of your screen>Preferences>select the "Composing" tab>in the line that reads "Send new messages from:" click on the arrows at the end of the line to open the dropdown box>select the email Account in the list that you want to be your default account for sending mail from.  That should solve the issue.

  • Thunderbird keeps returning an error "no such user" when I try to send from some email addresses even though I know that is false.

emails will not send from @protranscript.net domain addresses, even though they receive just fine. The program keeps saying that the server says there is no such user, even when I try and email myself!

"An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: <[email protected]> No such user here. Please check the message recipient [email protected] and try again." I know for a fact that email exists because it is the one your reply came to, lol.
