My imported photos from PSE look bad.
When I go to import and look at my photos (previously edited in PSE9 and saved as a jpg on an external hard drive) they look great. But when I import them some of the photos look weird - too bright usually or the colour has gone all funny. I've deleted them out of LR and then tried importing them but it happens again. Only on a certain few. They are jpgs.
What is happening? In finder on the mac they look normal too. under Import on LR4 they look normal. It's just once they are imported.
Thanks.
What are the settings on the sliders in Basic in the Develop Module? If they are off Zero you have something happening.
Check that the Autotone box in Preferences isn't checked too!

How do I import photos from a CD burned on a previous version of photoshop and an older computer? They play as a slideshow with no problem but I would like to edit them and burn them as a DVD. Thank you
It depends whether or not the files are burnt as read only - e.g. for viewing only as a slideshow project.
If using windows, insert the CD, click on the start button and go to Computer.
Double click on the CD drive and look to see if you can identify the individual image files.
If so you should be able to import them by clicking:
File >>Get Photos >>From Files & Photos

IPhoto quits unexpectedly every time I try to import photos from iPhone
Hi
I'm struggling with what seems a common problem... But I looked at some of the solutions and they are not working for me. iPhoto quits when I try to import photos from iPhone.
I tried to look for the 3ivx file/folder that has been mentioned as the solution, but I don't even have the folder. I've updated iPhoto, it's the latest version: 9.2.3
Here is the message. Can anyone help?

1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always. -
How do I import photos from my PC to my iPad3 using the latest version on iTunes?
How do I import photos from my PC to my iPad3 using the latest version on iTunes? The previous version had a 'photos' function in top right of the home screen but this has disappeared from the current version (Dec'12).
If you are on iTunes 11 on your computer then you can re-enable the left-hand sidebar via View > Show Sidebar (control-S), which should make it look similar to how it used to look - if you then select the iPad on that sidebar do you then get a Photos tab on the right-hand side ?

How to set image size for importing photos from a digital camera
I'm using Iphoto 6 and am a novice user of my new digital camera. The camera is set to HQ image quality. Initially when I imported photos from the camera into IPhoto, the images were very large (over 1 meg) and produced good quality 4X6 prints. Now when I import photos from the same camera still set to HQ image quality, the photos are very small (less than 100 kb) after being imported into IPhoto. I think I must have changed some kind of setting in IPhoto that affects the size of an imported image, but I can't find where that is or how to change it back so that the size is not changed when imported. Can someone please help me with this? Thanks!
IMAC G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9) my other computer is a Dell Dimension L500CX running Windows XP ProDave, thanks for clarifying Toad's response for me - I was just too ignorant to connect the dots from his responses. As you said, there were 2 versions - 1 in the original folder and 1 in data; the original folder had the photos that were 1 mb. We must have pulled from that folder previously to print photos not realizing they existed in 2 places. So when we found these thumbnail photos, we just thought they were the real thing. Where can you go to learn about the struction and hierarchy of the photos in terms of what Iphoto does to an image when you import it? Is it in Iphoto help somewhere? Thanks so much for your help with this, and you too Toad for leading me down the path.
If you're getting the size from Finder, I think Old
Toad's question makes a lot of sense. Is the file
you're looking at, somewhere in a folder called
"Data" in iPhoto Library? That 56k sounds about the
right size for a thumbnail.
If you do a search for the image name, both the
actual photo and the small thumbnail are stored with
the same image, e.g. abc.jpg

Import Photos from DVD - Reference to Original DVD Title?
i installed the trial version of Lightroom 2.0 and tested it out putting a DVD in.. it imported all the thumbnails fine... but when you take out the DVD after its done cataloging all the icons, the program doesn't tell you the name of the DVD that the photo folders belong to... it just gives a message referring to the fact that the "image is not available" when you click on an icon... which makes sense of course because the DVD isn't there, but... there's no indication like "please insert DVD labeled "PhotoDVD090" or whatever ...
I looked through the preferences to see if there was a way of turning on a feature that would be able to prompt me to put in the correct DVD when a particular thumbnail was clicked... this, I believe would be an invaluable and time saving tool for those of us with tons of off-line media. Thanks for the reply.. I appreciate it much. I know what you're trying to say but I have searched for a program that will import photos from a DVD, remember it by serial number (of the physical media), allow you to type in a DVD name or use the one originally provided when you burned the DVD, then store all thumbnails on the computer, remove the DVD, still have the thumbnails on the computer permanently and when you click a thumbnail, if the appropriate DVD is not in the drive it will prompt you for the title of the DVD..
simple simple simple... The fact that Lightroom doesn't have such a feature has prompted me to remove it completely from my system..
the fact that ACDsee Photo Manager 10 DOES have this feature, and costs a mere $29.99 has prompted me to get it instead.. it works like a dream... you can browse all your images, search by any criteria imaginable.. and then when you find the image you wish to work on.. a double click will pop of a box saying please insert such and such a dvd... you put in the DVD then click edit and up it pops in photoshop (or whatever other editing software you specify).. magic... Lightroom really needs to address this lacking option. -
Can you help me delete imported photos from iPhone (4s) running ios 7?
I made (what appears to be) the mistake of importing photos from my PC to my new iPhone 4s using itunes. They now seem to be permanent occupants. I can select them (in the "Moments" view in the Photos app) but the trash can on lower right is always grayed out. It appears that in ios 6 they could be deleted in the Settings/General/Usage (I also synced over some music which is deletable here). Can anyone help me?
Thank you razmee, I will give that a shot and get back to you. I was just looking at that grayed out trashcan icon an thinking there was probably a way to light it up.

Can I import photos from iPad to Mac using WiFi?
I know I can import photos from the iPad to the Mac using the USB cable, and importing them into iPhoto. But is it possible to do this without plugging in the iPad - i.e. with WiFi? I couldn't find a way to make it work.
Better still, would it be possible to automatically 'sync' photos taken on the iPad to the Mac using iCloud, without also having photos from the Mac going back to the iPad? My iPhoto archive is now quite large, and I don't want it on the iPad.
Or are there any other approaches?
I really want to be able to use the iPad to regularly "empty" my camera while travelling, and have the iPad transfer the pictures to my main photo archive (iPhoto on the Mac) whenever it gets a chance. If this can happen automatically, that is best. Manually initiating it via WiFi is next best. Mnually initiating it via a USB cable is third best - still not difficult, but more steps.Paul Fryer wrote:
Can anybody confirm this one way or the other?
If you have 800 photos on the iPad in the Photo Stream, those 800 photos will appear in the Photo Stream in iPhoto. However, if you have 7000 photos in albums in iPhoto, they will not appear in the Photo Stream on the iPad unless you place the photos into the Photo Stream. Photo Stream is its own album in iPhoto and your already imported photos in iPhoto will not appear in there unless you add them to the photo stream.
Look at one of the WiFi photo transfer apps such as WiFi Transfer App. You can send the iPad photos to your Mac using Safari on the Mac and then Imprt them to iPhoto as you see fit. You cannot send the photos directly into iPhoto with these apps.

I am importing photos from an SD card but the photos are added in triplicate and will not organize in order....any ideas as to why?
Because there are three copies of each photo on the card and you have the sort order set incorrectly?
That is the overwhelmingly most likely cause - beyond that you actually need to share some information with us since we only know what you tell us and at this point all you have told us is that you have a problem and you are running OS X 10.9.4
what version of iPhoto do you have? what is the source of the photos? have you looked at the SD card in the finder or with image capture to see exactly why is on it? are you shooting HRD with the source camera? what setting do you have for event sort under the view menu? has it ever worked? what has changed? what else can you tell us? why do you think this is happening?

Importing Photos from Pictures Album revisited
Quite a while ago, I posted a question about my Aperture's lack of ability to import from the "Pictures" folder.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1540299&tstart=0
I took a close look today, and I solved the problem. I noticed that when I navigated to the Pictures folder, there were only two entries, and neither of them actually existed in my Pictures. Further, when I selected them, Aperture told me it couldn't find specific folders within *the iPhoto library*. Whoa!
So, somehow, there is a rogue AlbumData.xml file in my Pictures folder. This file belongs in an iPhoto library, but it somehow ended up (accidental drag and drop? iPhoto Library Manager? Maybe I'll never know) at the top level of Pictures. Aperture then mistook my entire Pictures folder for an iPhoto library, and a broken one at that. It did not parse any other folder in the Pictures folder because, well, it was an iPhoto library.
Solution? Get rid of the AlbumData.xml file in Pictures. Now I can import from Pictures!
nathanTerence,
I have a folder called "Panos" containing the photos I want as referenced. When I drag that folder into the "Documents" shortcut in Finder, my path (According to "Get Info" of one of the photos) is
/Users/nathananderson/Documents/Panos
In this case, I can navigate to the Panos folder from Aperture and import photos.
When I put my photos into Pictures, the path is:
/Users/nathananderson/Pictures/Panos
And using Aperture, I navigate to the Pictures folder that is in the same level as Documents. Aperture shows me nothing but "Last Import" and "Library". There is no other folder to select!
When composing this message, I also found out that I have three other folders in my Pictures folder. These other three folders are not Aperture or iPhoto library folders, and they are also unavailable for "Import Photos" from Aperture.

IPhoto won't import photos from iPhone
Hi - using a MBP 2.2, Leopard, iLife 08 and an 8gb iPhone. iPhoto used to import photos from the iPhone no problem - now it won't import it at all. Says it's an unreadable file (though a normal jpg).
What gives? Same issue trying to import two jpg's rec'd via email (and dragged to my desktop).
Any suggestions?I have this problem now. I have MacOS 10.5.1, iPhoto '08, and iPhone running 1.1.2.
In my "camera roll" on the iPhone are 260 photos, all the pics I have taken since I got the phone. I imported some of them weeks ago with no problems into iPhoto. But now iPhoto can't import anything from the iPhone.
iPhoto does know there are photos on the phone, because there is set of blank thumbnail squares that I can select to import. When I look at the photo info, I can see the file name, size, date, but all the other info is missing or incorrect. It doesn't have camera maker or model. Most worrying though is the height and width of the pictures are zero.
I am thinking that there is some cache file on the phone that got corrupted somehow. Resetting to factory settings might help, but I really don't want to lose all the photos that I took from the holidays.
I've tried the above suggestions and no avail: logged out and into the .Mac account; powered down the phone; reset the iSync history (interestingly, iSync does not recognize my phone when I do a device scan).
I did try removing some stuff to make room, but still no dice. -
Can't import photos from i phone
I cannot import photos from my iphone into iphoto. It is saying they are unrecognized files
It's a shame Apple can't solve this. I used this work around: (NOTE: make sure to Unmount iPhone so that iPhone does NOT appear in finder window. Then close iPhoto and proceed as follows)
1) Open Applications
2) Open Image Capture
3) Connect iPhone
4) At the bottom, "Import To" drop down create subfolder under Pictures folder
5) Select "Import All" or individually select items; To watch progress see the status bar at the bottom or open subfolder you just created in Finder.
6) After completion, quit Image Capture
7) Disconnect iPhone
8) Open iPhoto
9) Import from subfolder created from Image Capture
Speculation:
a) Some files get bad info if they are on the iPhone too long.
b) Some files are too large for transfer rate when it says "Preparing to Import". My 2.82GB .MOV imported just fine after moving it to my hard drive with Image Capture. -
How to import photos from multiple iphoto libraries to iPad
How do I import photos from multiple iPhoto libraries from my iMac to the new iPad? I have 4 different iPhoto Libraries on my iMac.
I can import photos from iPhoto library 1, to the iPad, but when I import photos from iPhoto Library 2, created on my iMac to the iPad,
it deletes the original photos that I imported from the first iPhoto Library and replaces them with the import from library 2.
I only want to import selected photos from each library to my iPad. Can someone plese help me?As Ralph has suggested, if you want to sync photos from your computer, you must include all photos that you want to sync - with each and every sync. You cannot import photos from another Main photo folder on the computer. You must create an all-in-one photo library in iPhoto and sync from that folder. You can select one level of sub folders from within that main folder, but all of those folders must be included in the main folder - in your case it is in iPhoto. That is just how the sync process works with Photos.
I don't know how using third party apps affects the photos that you have already synced from iPhoto, but take a look at these apps in this Google search. Maybe Wifi transfer is the way to go for you.

I purchased Lightroom 5, loaded it on my Mac, and updated to version 5.6. I then tried importing photos from my Sony DSC-RX100iii. Unfortunately it only imports JPEG files but no RAW files. What is the problem and how do I fix it?
Than LR should have brought in the RAW files as well. ACR is the RAW
processing engine used by LR under the covers so anything not supported by
ACR would not be supported by Lightroom.
Are you shooting RAW plus JPEG? By default, Lightroom will stack then
unless you tell it not to. Check to see if there is a small badge on the
preview that looks like two sheets of paper with a number. That is how
Lightroom indicates a stack. You can unstack them by clicking on the badge.
There is also a menu item to stack/unstack photos. Otherwise, I would have
to research but not sure why Lightroom would ignore the RAW photos but
still import the JPEGS. -
IPhoto will no longer import photos from any of my another cameras.
iPhoto will no longer import photos from any of my another cameras after importing photos from my iTouch.
Does the camera mount to the desktop so you can look to see what is there? Have you tried Image capture (in your applications folder) to import the photos? Have you tried unchecking hide previously imported to see what that shows? Do you have a USB card reader to try? When did you last reformat your memory card?
If you can get the photo off the card using any method do so and tehn use yoru camera's format command to reformat the card
