My in-built camera has stopped working?

Can anyone shed any light? 2 weeks ago it was working fine with Skype. I have since uninstalled and then reinstalled skype. I have also tried to see if the computer detects the camera using iChat - and it still is not detecting it. I live on the other side of the world from my family, so Video Skyping is ultra important - please help!

Built in camera has stopped working, how can I reinstall the respective drivers?

Here are my best suggestions for your camera problem, Stephen:
    •  If you have not already done so, shut down Mac, restart,
and try again.  If the camera still does not work, continue.
    • Try ALL relevant suggestions from Apple's Troubleshooting
       article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
(Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
If you need to use the "reset" suggestion, use the correct reset for your Mac.
    • Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
download and apply the latest Combo Update.  For your Mac OS,
the current version is at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1640
    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
       that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of the camera.
    • If nothing else resolves your problem, yours is likely a hardware issue.
Unless you have a current backup, make one now.
Then use the final "Troubleshooting" suggestion:
"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."

  • My built in camera has stopped working since Skype...

Since recent Skype updates the camera has stopped working - but it works in other applications. I am running on Windows 7 - do I need to uninstall and load n older version - anyone else suffering these problems?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You didn't state what camera you are using. There have been some issues with Dell XPS models. If that is the case, the problem has not been resolved as of yet. You can try downgrading to an older release to see if the camera works once again.
You have two options to try to resolve this:
    1. Try 3rd party software like manycam (manycam.com). See if your camera works in the manycam software. If it does, select the manycam virtual driver in Skype and see if your camera still operates with the latest release. If you go this route be sure to do a custom install to install only the main program.
    2. Your other option would be to revert/downgrade to a prior release or a version that exists to address video/camera compatibility issues like the Skype special version:
    Skype 6.3
    http://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_6.3.0.105.msi
    Skype Special Version (6.1.999.130):
    http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-sse
Depending on which versions work may determine if the compatibility issue was introduced in the newest versions or if you camera is not compatible with the new way video is rendered (Skype 6.2 and above).

  • My macbook camera has stopped working - tried on Skype, Facetime, and Photobooth. Any ideas how to fix this?

My macbook (purchased in 2007) Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5 camera has stopped working - tried on Skype, Facetime, and Photobooth. Any ideas how to fix this?

If restarting doesn't fix, use the relevant suggestions from Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight.  If nothing else there works, the repair by an Apple-Authorized Service Provider suggested there and by spudnuty will get it sorted.
(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

  • Satellite T130: inbuilt web camera has stopped working

Hi, I have the same problem of the question bellow, like I have looked around and I was not able to find the answer I need.
I have a Satellite T130 and, suddenly, the inbuilt web camera has stopped working properly. A blue light is on, but there is no image. What can I do?
    Thank you

    Hi,
the blue light is beside the web cam, on the top of screen. But this light is on when I try to use the web cam in anywhere, like Skype, Msn or even in programs in the computer that only take a pictue or make a video of you, without ineternet (I do not know the name of this program). But it seems that computer and the programs recognize the web cam, because there is no messages when I turn on the web cam.
In Skype settings is the same, there is nothing wrong, there is no different message. The only thing is when I try to take picture a message appears: "failed", but the video seems to record normally, although everythng is black.
Could you understand what I meant?
    Sorry about my english....

  • My FaceTime HD camera has stopped working on my 2013 11" MacBook Air.

Recently, my FaceTime HD camera has stopped working. The green LED indicating that it's on will turn on for a second, then turn off. The camera is never activated, and it constantly repeats this cycle. I contacted Apple for help after I had tried repairing permissions, resetting the SMC, and reinstalling the OS as a last resort. I don't know what to do at this point. I'm running Mac OS X Mavericks, and the camera had no problems with the OS. The camera has just suddenly stopped working. Can anybody please help?

    See this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5306216?tstart=0
    FIX:
    1. You need Time Machine
    2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
    3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
    4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
    5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
    6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.
    If that doesnt pass,
Suggest looking here, much success has been found:

MY COMPUTER (ISIGHT) CAMERA HAS STOPPED WORKING.... HOW DO I TURN IT BACK ON?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • IPod Touch 5th generation front-facing camera has stopped working

After updating to ios 7, my front-facing camera has stopped working on my ipod touch 5th generation. I have tried doing a full restore to factory settings, resetting data settings, turning it on and off, and all the basic things. Here are a few pictures:
This is with the rear-facing camera, it works just fine.
Now this is the front-facing camera:
When i try to use the front-facing camera, the screen goes like this and the camera app freezes, i can't switch back to read camera or anything. Other applications like snapchat don't have a button to switch the camera.
It's like the camera app is detecting that the version of ipod has a camera, but it can't seem to find it. Btw, i live in Australia and am an apple developer.
I like srsly need to get my front camera working. Thanks
I am also using iOS 7.1 beta.

Likely a hardware problem as other has experienced the same problem
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Built in web cam has stopped working - Satellite A200

The built in webcam on my Satellite A200 stopped working yesterday and I dont know why. I have not installed any new software recently but it is not recognized when I use Skype or any other program. When trying to use the camera, an error tells me no camera is recognized or it is switched off.
I have uninstalled the driver and reinstalled several times but it has not helped.
Please, does anybody have any ideas? (OS Vista).

    Hi
Sorry but it is not easy to say what is wrong there. I recommend you to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore tool. I am pretty sure you will be able to use cam again.
I have cam on P200 and use it with Skype without any problems. I really hopr you will be able to solve this.
    Good luck!

  • Built In iSight camera has stopped working on 27 inch iMac and 27 inch LED.

The camera's on my 27 inch  i7  imac and 27 inch cinema display all of a sudden just stopped working. I checked in the system profiler, and both show that
they are connected. When I try video chat in iChat the green light comes on and connects like it's a one way video chat... when I try and switch to the display monitor's iSight the green light switches to the other monitor, but the camera is still black... I tried this with Facetime, Skype, and Photobooth, all nothing... Any insght into this would be great. I'm thinking that it could be an internal hardware problem with the machine... Logic or Motherboard....
    Any info would be helpful
    thank you

    Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)

  • Satellite U920T - display, touchscreen and camera has stopped working

My U920 has been goten worst every day, first it was the thouchscreen, then the cameras and finnally today the screen has stoped working.
The ribon attachment has problems, don't know if I'm the only one or if is a design problem, but the main problemhas been the total lack of support from Toshiba.
Amazing how bad can costumer service be....

I dont understand why you are not satisfied with the consumer service but fact is that in case of hardware problems, you should always contact the local Toshiba authorized service provider which is available in your country.
How to now if its really an hardware problem or maybe just an software issue (corrupt system)?
There is a very simple method and workaround:
In most cases if you recover the notebook back to the factory settings, the software issues should be fixed the notebook should work properly.
In case the recovery does not solve the notebook problems, the notebooks hardware might be affected. In such case (as already mentioned above) you will need additional help from notebook engineer.

  • Importing from Sony TRV18E DV camera has stopped working

I have been happily using my Sony TRV18E and importing footage to imovie 6.0.3 on my imac until this morning. Now when I try to import, it still allows me to control the camera via the firewire connection (ie I can start, stop, rewind, fast forward), but if I hit the import button, all that happens on the screen is that it states that the "camera playing", with a blue background. The camera plays but no clips are captured.
FYI, it works fine on my macbook, so it is not the camera or the cable that are at fault. I have rebooted my imac and the camera a number of times, searched through the other focum topics and tried all of the suggestions on the apple imovie site. Firewire recognises the camera correctly (as per another post on this site), so it is not a firewire 600 / 800 issue.
I installed the following software updates this morning, which is the only thing I can think of that has changed since yesterday:
    2007-03-08 09:10:13 +1300: Installed "Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 5" (5.0)
    2007-03-08 09:10:25 +1300: Installed "QuickTime" (7.1.5)
    2007-03-08 09:10:37 +1300: Installed "iTunes" (7.1)
    2007-03-08 09:10:40 +1300: Installed "Security Update 2007-002 (Universal)" (1.0)
    2007-03-08 09:11:26 +1300: Installed "Daylight Saving Time Update" (1.0)
    Any ideas?

I had the same thing happen this morning after installing QuickTime 7.1.5 and the other items you installed. Like you, I could control the camera but not import successfully.
With the camera turned on and hooked up to iMovie, I shut off the camera, then turned it back on. Shazam! Everything started working again.
This isn't the first time I've seen this happen. It's happened once in a while all the way back to iMovie 1. It seems to happen after I do something major, like upgrade QuickTime. It's as if the parts have to re-discover each other — iMovie, QuickTime, FireWire and the camera. Once they do, everything starts working again.
The only suggestion I can make is to keep fiddling with it. Start up things in a different order until you hit the magic combination. Then breathe a sign of relief.

  • 5530 Xpress music Camera has stopped working for s...

    Hi everybody,
I have xpress music 5530. Its been a good cell phone. It got 3.2 MP camera which has good result.
Currently I am having a problem with its camera. It is working fine if I use it to capture the Video but If i want to take a snap, It starts blinking on black screen as it use to focus in noraml condiotions and it does not takes a snap. Otherwise if i change the Vido mode and then back to image mode, sometimes it beeps like it has captured the image but then it goes on processing image screen and ends up in closing the camera application and no picture is taken or saved to gallery.
Video recording is working fine but there is problem with still image capturing. I have tried soft and hard reset through codes, *#7870#  and *#7370#  respectively but still problem exist.
Kindly, If anyone have any solution to suggest about it, please share here.

Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problems persist restore to factory defaults/new iPod
    - If problem still occurs make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.  If so, they will give you a replacement under your warranty.

  • Camera has stopped working

OK I have searched the Community and checked as best I can the previous suggestions all with no luck.
The video has worked previously with Skype and Photo Booth but today will not with either. I have followed the suggestions to check in Applications however cannot find the links referred to. I have seen a couple of posts where people have had to take their units back to Apple to get fixed but most have been over 12 months ago. Is that the only assistance available now?
Like others anything with a camera or video application shows the video with a line across it and it says No camera installed or similar.
Interestingly this is the 3rd problem I have encountered since a software update during the last week.

This sounds like a hardware problem, you can also go to the Apple-Menu and select 'About This Macintosh' then click on 'System Report'. There should be an entry 'Camera'. If it is empty or missing, the system can't find it… (Hardware problem)
And yes, I suggest you bring it to an AppleStore
    enjoy
