Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
Not exactly clear, but in Address Books tool bar, is Groups & Names shown, or just Names?

  • Searching for mail with specific headers

Hi, Is there a way of searching for mail messages that contain a specific header? I want to find all email messages that come from people with a particular version of Outlook Express, so I want to find all email messages which have X-Mailer headers containing the string "Microsoft Outlook Express".
(This is Mail version 3.4. I'm a recent convert from Eudora & am still missing many Eudora features. )

It's inability to deal with HTML was finally getting to me. And it didn't integrate well with Address Book at all. Having to change contacts' details in two different places got a bit too much & the "Use OS X Address Book" option didn't work properly, not updating with changes made in Address Book. Nor with iCal, although that was fixed with a couple of hacks.

  • After installing MountainLion I can't search for mails in Mail

Hi all, after installing Mountain Lion this february I can't search for mails in mail before 2014! But the mails are all there, I can scroll down till 2011 ;-) Its only the search who killed himselfe after upgrading from Snow Leopard.
When I search for a word via Spotlight, it finds all old emails!
    Whats wrong with my Mail.app?
    Thx

After reading A LOT of postings about this topic, I found my personal solution Because this problem started after upgrading to a new OSX, I mentioned that it must be something with rights permission. So I went on
User/Library/Mail right click -> Informations. Look down where you can see which groups has access, read/write. I went on the small wheel to change, set in my password, went on my user name, changed from "read&write" to "just read", switched back, marked "to all subfolders", then OSX asking if I really wanna do this -> yes. Waiting. Finished.
Now I see all my mails when I search inside the Mail.app.
Schnell und einfach ;-) Besten Dank

  • Search for mail on server returns error

When searching for mail on the server i receive the error Cannot get mail. The connection to the server failed. All other mail functions work.

Not that it helps, but I'm having the same issue on iPad and iPhone. Happened around the same time. My server admin admits that they applied one patch for Microsoft Activesync, but since the Blackberries work that couldn't be the problem.
My account verifies fine. Opening the mail window results in the error message.

  • My iPhone continuously searches for mail, no matter what setting I use, which is running down my battery. Has anyone else experienced this?

My iPhone 5 continuously searches for mail, no matter what time period I set it for in settings. Has anyone else experienced this?

My iPhone 5 continuously searches for mail
    How do you know this?
no matter what time period I set it for in settings
You realize that Mail App checks for mail every time it's opened and that the fetch interval  you set applies only to background checks when the app is closed, right?

  • IOS4 - "Searching for mail"

Since downloading iOS 4 yesterday, my mail keeps "searching for mail" with the icon spinning. In order to retrieve mail, I must reboot.

I got that after the update to iOS4. It would just spin and spin, claiming that it was trying to retrieve my mail. It was happening on all my accounts.
I tried resetting my phone, but got the same behavior.
I tried deleting and re-creating a couple of my email accounts, but got the same behavior.
What finally fixed the problem was a Restore from iTunes. As long as you have a complete backup, it's not much of a problem to do.

  • Search for mail in Outlook 2013 does not have all emails in result.

Hi, we have a user that tries to search for a sertain mail in her mailbox, and when she searches, a few mail comes up, but the one she knows is there, and that fits the search pattern, is not listed in the results.
We have tried to reindex the database the user was on, we have moved her to another database, and none of these have given us the result we want.
We have also removed the checkmark in "Search" in Outlook for "Improve search speed by limiting the number of results shown".
If she does the same search in OWA or Outlook 2010, the result is as expected, but in Outlook 2013, it is not.
Has anyone experienced this, and if so, what could be done to solve it?
Google(Bing) produces very little results that are relevant to this for me.
Hope someone here has an answer :)

  • Mail app crashing when it checks for mail

    Hi.
This is becoming quite frustrating. I open mail, and it's set to check for mail every few minutes, so immediately it checks for mail on my two POP accounts.
As the little things next to each account appear and start turning the application crashes out. Numerous restarts show the same thing.
PLEASE let me know what I can do to fix this. I dont have webmail access for the one account and need to get lots of work done.
Perhaps reinstall the mail application? But how?
    Regards,
    Simon

    Hi Simon.
Problems arising right after installing a system update are usually the result of some filesystem corruption that should have been fixed first, or not having installed the update properly (e.g. applications running while installing it), or having ignored Apple’s “Important: Please read before installing” warnings, etc.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Reading your first post, I would suggest the following to check whether the junk filter could have a bearing on it:
    1. Either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down your Internet connection and open Mail afterwards.
    2. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail and disable junk mail filtering.
    3. Go online again.
Reading your last post, however, it looks like Mail crashes even when offline, so the problem must be something else.
When an application crashes (i.e. quits unexpectedly), the system writes information about the state of the application at the moment of the crash to a log file. That information is called a crash report and makes troubleshooting easier. In order to find and post the relevant part of the crash report here, proceed as follows:
    1. Open ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Mail.crash.log. The whole crash log appears in a Console window (you can also open that file with any text editor). It may contain many crash reports. We only want the latest, which is located at the bottom of the file.
    2. Look for a line that begins with “Date/Time:” as close to the bottom as possible, and another that says “Thread N Crashed:”, where N is a number. Select everything from the “Date/Time:” line to the lines immediately following “Thread N Crashed:”. Copy that text and paste it in your post. Do not post the whole crash log, and do not include anything beyond the lines immediately following “Thread N Crashed:” either, just the relevant part.
Take a look at the following thread for examples of what a crash report looks like:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=466701
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Mail seems to be stuck in a loop after using rules

I was trying to use the rules setting in preferences and after I applied one, Mail crashed. I relaunched it and it will open for a few seconds then crash. I can click in the preferences before it closes but I can't remove it. I tried deactivating the account, but can't seem to get rid of that rule. Any ideas on how I can get this to work?

I used to have the same problem, and after checking all the log
file and tablespace space I discover that I setup my new Web

the same one that Oracle create in the default installation. And
I was running out of space in tablespace TOOLS(It was 25M), and
that why the builder wizard was getting stuck in 0%. I, then run
the svrmgrl, connect internal and increase the tools tablespace
    (alter tablespace tools add
    datafile '/u2/oradata/test/tools02.dbf' size 25M)
I increase in 25M more. After that the wizard works the new Web
Site works, also. I and running Red Hat 6.0 and Oracle 8.0.5

  • My iPhone 4 has been stuck searching for signal.

I have had the SIM card replaced twice by AT&T already. It seems to work for a few days and then if I go without service for more than 30 mins my phone gets stuck. I really need help.

What user troubleshooting have you done on the phone itself? User troubleshooting is restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new. See this troubleshooting link http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/troubleshooting/ or you can use the User Guide.

  • Spotlight searching for mailing list archives

I need to make spotlight searches available for individual Mailman/Pipermail mailing lists' web archives. How can I do it? So far, the only way I've found is to make a copy of the mailing list's web archives somewhere inside a web site's hierarchy, then add indexing for it with the mdimport -f command. Simply using a symbolic link to a mailing list archve folder in /private/var/mailman/archives/private doesn't work. I don't want to keep a separate copy of the mailing list archives just so that I can have one that's spotlight searchable.
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I can browse to the iPhoto Library in the Open dialogues from other apps. For some apps (eg Safari, Word), I can see the iPhoto Library, but it is greyed out
That's not what I mean. You're browsing to the Library, I mean +browse the contents of the Library+...
For instance: Consider the Open... Dialogue
On the left there's a Media heading, the contents of your Library can be accessed there.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
Is your Library available there? And in other Media Broswers in Pages, iMovie etc?
