My Incoming Mail Server  for iCloud is grayed out....so, it is not working. How to fix?

It easiest way that sometimes solves the problem would be to delete your account from your Mac (system
Preferences... > iCloud) and then to add it back again.

  • HT4864 incoming mail server is grayed-out

How do I get my "incoming mail server' un-grayed?  It won't let me put information on that line.
    Thank you.

The p10 number is one of those added by the system and appears to represent different geographical areas - it's quite normal.
If you are having problems with the setup you should sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud and sign back in again, emabling Mail in the checklist. This should set it up correctly. It's not designed to let you do this manually in the Mail application.

  • TS3276 Incoming mail server is grayed out?!

Can not receive mail. Mail always askers for my password. Can not change anything in my account as the incoming mail server is grated out. Any advise is appreciated.

Are you using OS X 10.5.7 or 10.7.5?  If you're using 10.7.5 (Lion), it's grayed out because it's automatically configured.  If you aren't getting mail, try going to Settings>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then go back and check Mail again.

  • Mail on OSX 10.7.5  has incoming mail server field grayed out

Trying to configure my iCloud email using Mail in OSX10.7.5   and in the settings the field for incoming mail is grayed out, yet every time I try to save to exit that window, it gives me an error message that it needs an incoming mail server.  Can't enter it because I can't get into the field, which is showing po2-imap.mail.me.com     Any thoughts on how to remedy?

I tried this and it entered the same info that was there and the incoming mail server field is still grayed out and I still get the "The incoming mail server cannot be empty" message when I go to exit the iCloud account window.

  • What do I do if my incoming mail server is greyed out?

Can anyone help me with this iCloud problem?  I am not able to use Email and in i Cloud,  my incoming mail server is greyed out.  I searched the web for answers,  followed their suggestions, to no avail.

Thanks Roger,  I followed those steps, but it is still greyed out.  I seem to be getting some mail,  so I don't quite understand what is going on.  I have an iPhone as well, and mail seems to work fine on it, so I am not totally out of commission. This is just the strangest thing!   Thank you for your quick response to try and help me.  Margaret

  • Incoming mail server section greyed out

This is a problem I am having with setting up my iCloud email. The incoming mail server section is "greyed out" and I cannot change or edit it and when I go to save what I've changed Apple Mail says that the incoming mail server cannot be left empty. Any ideas what has caused this?

On a Mac, the server fields are automatically configured, which is why they are grayed out.  If your iCloud mail isn't working, go to System Preferences>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then go back and check Mail again.  If that doesn't fix things, go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts, restart your Mac then sign back in.  (This deletes the iCloud account and data from your Mac, but not from iCloud.  Your data will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in, after a brief delay as it redownloads.)

  • Using Yosemite My incoming mail server changes by itself and means I can't access my email. When I go to preferences the new incoming mail server is greyed out. I then have to remove the accounts and get new ones.

Using Mail with Yosemite 10.10.2.The incoming mail server keeps changing by itself and means I can't access my mail. I  go to preferences and find that the new incoming server is greyed out .  I then have to remove the accounts and then add them again with the correct server. The incoming server which is greyed out is imap.gmail.com

Try Mail/Preferences/Accounts - select the account, then go to Advanced and deselect "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".

  • Why is my Incoming mail server showing gray or "not active?"

I am having trouble receiving e-mails since changing my apple password. The password works fine in other regions but the Mail accounts section seems to be "rejecting" something I am providing as infor or username or Alias or what? and the box shows the correct information under incoming mail but in grayscale????

    Hello DRMSBSR,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. If you are not able to receive email on your Mac, the next step to try is to remove the account and then add it back in.
Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud. Then sign out of the account and then sign back in.

  • Mail server re-build on 10.4.8 not working

    Hello,
We had a 10.4.7 server built on a dual G4 500 that crashed hard a month ago during a backup, losing the complete directory structure. We have tried hard to re-build fresh on an Intel IMac using OS X server 10.4.8.
The web server seems to work fine, our problem seems to be the interaction between Posftix, Amavis, Spamassassin and ClamAV.
We get lmtp time out errors, etc., and are approaching our wits end tracing out the error logs...we have the skills and enough recovered files to re-create most of the mail database once the mail server is functioning.
Are there consultants with specialized skills that could help?
Are there issues with 10.4.8 that wouldn't exist if we re-built on a G5 and 10.4.3 or 10.4.7?
Is there an approach besides logic and experimentation that could be used to walk through this?
Is this re-build time unusual for those without serious Unix training? One of us has Unix skills and the other doesn't but this seems a lot like rocket science.
    Tks,
    David

I just tried your scenario by forcing the death of a 4 domain dual MDD by unplugging it in the middle of a backup and then hitting my iMac as a replacement machine, in less than 10 minutes, I recovered the users from the netinfo files so I wouldn't have to re-enter all 209 of them.
In 37 minutes, I reconfigured postfix, amavisd-new, cyrus, mailman, squirrelmail, mysql, updated SpamAssassin and ClamAV, transferd my apache config and site files then brought the machine to life on the net to verify everything was working.
Your biggest problem is going to be the lack of knowledge to what is required to be recovered, what can be rebuilt quickly and how much data needs to be transfered and that the intel machine suffers some configuration issues not affecting the PPC's as serious because apple cut corners and forced installation of some important software without including required dependancies and installing these dependancies properly is just as important.
If you contact me off list I can probably provide some time to assist you with this matter as long as you don't mind following instructions and are interested more in getting it up rather than learning, my patience to teach is most often non-existant because it takes more time than I have to give.

You are having a hardware failure.  You will need to bring your phone to Apple for replacement.  If not under warranty, expect to pay $199 for out of warranty replacement.

  • OVI mail not working - how to fix

As usual Nokia does not bother to tell anybody anything (ie ovi move to yahoo)
If you cannot get into your OVI mail do the following
    delete old ovi account
    create new yahoo account
select imap4 and enter you OVI details( ie [email protected] and password)
make sure you set the below values
    Incoming Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Outgoing Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
    Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL/TLS)
(now Nokia was this SOOOOOO hard? hmmmm grrrrrrr.....)

Ever since I updated my operating system, I have been unable to send/receive mail.  When I try to correct under "Accounts" under the preferences tab, the incoming mail server is grayed out so I can't update.

Select the account and check the box marked Enable this account in the Account Information tab.

  • Incoming mail server grayed out

My Mac Mail (icloud) account is acting up - the incoming mail server is gray out and can not be changed.  It says :
    mail.example.com
I have all the current updates/softwares.
I have deleted and added this account several times, does not change the outcome.
Is there a problem on the "APPLE" side?
Thanks for any help, suggestions, advice.
    Mona

I believe it should say something like: imap.mail.me.com or imap.mail.mac.com.
As it is now, it reads:  mail.example.com
and is grayed out and will not accept the cursor to highlight or change anything.
Acting up - it is off line and will get on-line when prompted.  All my other mail accounts (ie gmail) are working fine as far as receiving and sending mail is concerned.
Thanks again for any help suggestions advice
    Mona
