  • My integrated webcam doesn't work on new Skype

    Hello everyone
A few months ago i refreshed my Skype. On the refreshed version i couldn't use my webcam (USB2.0 uvc vga webcam on ASUS x52f, windows 7). I asked google for solution and i got it: let's install an older version of Skype.
I did so and the problem was solved.
Now that Skype blackmailed me into downloading the newest version (6.18.60.105) the problem is on again. And the solution (installing an older version) is not relevant anymore.
I installed the new K-light codec pack. Still nothing.
I uninstalled and reinstalled my camera and drivers. Still nothing.
So the question is: how to get my integrated camera work on the new and shiny Skype?
    Thanks for the answeres!

  • Webcam no longer working in Skype

    Hi All
I have a Dell laptop with an integrated webcam and for some reason last Thursday the webcam no longer work in skype. It was working the day before. It still works in yahoo. When I try to make a video call or test it under options - video settings I get a black screen with that moving circle indicating that the video is loading but it never loads. The internet connection is very fast. Has anyone else seen this issue or know how to resolve it?
    Thank you in advance.
    Alan

There are two main reasons why their are video incompatibilities in the newer releases.
    1.  The way video support was redesigned in 6.2 and above left some cameras incapable of supporting the new video mode in older style hardware.  For this reason the Skype special version (6.1.x) was made available.  This also resolves video incompatibility issues between very old releases (i.e. Skype for MAC OSX 2.8 and Skype Special Version for Windows allows video communication to occur between contacts vs. just audio)
    https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12252/why-can-t-i-make-video-calls-on-the-latest-version-of-skype...
    2.  Bugs/incompatibilities are sometimes introduced in the newer releases like the recently reported issues with Dell XPS model cameras.  In that instance, you would have to downgrade to 6.3 or below which does not have that flaw.
    Skype 6.3 (the previous release)
    http://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_6.3.0.105.msi
So while it may be highly inconvenient, if you are aware of the above you should be able resolve any video-related issue.  I for one have been fortunate as none of my laptop webcams including the one on my Dell has failed to work in any Skype for Windows release.

Hi, my built in webcam has stopped working on Skype following an update. Does this mean my macbook air has blocked videochat on skype? How can I fix this problem?

    See this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5306216?tstart=0
    FIX:
    1. You need Time Machine
    2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
    3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
    4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
    5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
    6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.
    If that doesnt pass,
Suggest looking here, much success has been found:

  • My FaceTime Camera of my MacBook Air doesn't work in Skype.

My FaceTime Camera of my MacBook Air doesn't work in Skype. I try to make a videocall but my camera doesn't work.

Be sure to check PHOTOBOOTH and FACETIME in more than one user account.  However, don't use the "Guest" account for testing.  If your Mac only has one account, create a new user account for testing.
    • If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
suggestions do not help you, (the "reset" suggested there
often restores normal function,) continue with the following.
    • Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
download and apply the latest Combo Update, for your Mac OS,
the current one is at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484
    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
       that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of iSight.  For hardware help, contact an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
The same Troubleshooting help for built-in iSight works for FaceTime (and FaceTime HD) cameras, too.
If your camera works with Apple apps in every user account you test, search or post for help in Skype's dedicated forum.  The Skype users who post there may have already know the solution for your particular problem.

  • Webcam is not working on skype with Ubuntu 12.04

I posted a week ago that I had solved the problem by downloading Skype 4.0 for Linux. However it turns out I spoke too soon. The video just freezes in Skype, though it is fine in Cheese, the Ubuntu webcam app. So I'm still high and dry and have to resort to booting Windows, darn it. I am running 64 bit Xubuntu 12.04 on an AMD quadcore system.

    bash -c 'LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype'64 Bit
    bash -c 'LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype'
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Webcam/Troubleshooting Make a launcher and try either of the above. Below may help you.Copy and paste the line below into the Terminal and press Enter.sudo gedit /usr/local/bin/skypeThis will open your editor with a blank text file, copy and paste the following lines into your blank text file.Use lines below for x86(32bit)#!/bin/bash
    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype Use lines below for x64(64bit)#!/bin/bash
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skypeSave the file and close it.Now to make the file executable, copy and paste the following line into Terminal.sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/skypePress Enter and close the Terminal, start Skype and webcam works. Now your webcam is working you can optionally (to improve the quality of your webcam picture), install v4l2ucp(video for linux 2 universal control panel) from the Software Manager.Type "v4l2ucp" in the search box and then select it.After installation go toMenu> Preferences > Video4Linux Control PanelThis will allow you to adjust the Contrast, Gamma, Auto Gain and Sharpness of your video. Simply click "Preview" and adjust the sliders to suit your requirements. If your webcam has a built-in microphone, to set it to default for use with Skype, go toMenu> Preferences > SoundClick on the input tab and select your webcam microphone from the choices listed for input devices.(Make sure microphone volume is not muted). As an alternative if the above fix does not work try using the lines below instead.Use lines below for x86(32bit)#!/bin/bash
    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so /usr/bin/skype Use lines below for x64(64bit)#!/bin/bash

A clean start for skypeThis can be tidied up by writing a small script in /usr/local/bin called skype that comes higher in the loading sequence that the script of the same name in /usr/bin/. That script is in charge of running skype; the new script loads the correct libraries then hands control to the former script. In terminal type:$ sudo gedit /usr/local/bin/skypeand paste the following 2 line code snippet into gedit:LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
/usr/bin/skypesave and close. Now back in terminal make it executable$ sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/skypeReboot type skype and the web cam just works. This was tested on Lucid with a Logitech Quick Cam Communicator.https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Webcam/Troubleshooting

  • W510 Integrated Camera Doesn't Work

I've got a W510 43192NU and upon receiving it I replaced the 32 bit OS with 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate.  I had to go grab the camera driver from their website but initially everything was working ok.  I was having issues with my blue USB 3.0 ports, so I tried to upgrade the firmware of the USB 3.0 controller which worked perfectly, except for the minor problem that my integrated camera no longer works.
I contacted support and they were pretty dumbfounded and the only suggestion they had for me was to do a fresh install of Windows.  This was probably about 6-7 weeks ago, I hadn't had an opportunity till tonight to try their recommended solution.  I decided to take a day off of work and get this camera thing straightened out, as I'm starting to need to do video conferences more frequently.
Lo and behold after doing a full reinstall of the OS, and installing the minimal drivers necesarry, I still have the same problem with the webcam.  The driver looks like its installing ok, but doesn't actually run to completion and ask me to restart.  My co workers that also have the exact same model don't have any issues with their machines, but they also haven't installed the updated firmware for the USB 3.0 controller.
Has anyone else had this problem and been able to find a resolution?  Is anyone aware of any way to downgrade the firmware on my USB 3.0 controller so I can get my webcam back?
Thanx in advance for any help/suggestions.

I have a similar recurring problem; my camera keeps dying. Every program I run sees it fine and says it's working, but I never get anything but a blank screen. I sent the laptop (a W510 as well) in for repairs and they replaced the mobo and that fixed the problem for a while, but now it's happening again. I feel like it must be something I'm doing, but I don't know how that could be if replacing hardware would fix it temporarily.

  • Built in webcam doesn't work in Ubuntu

    Hi everyone
I've just installed a clean Ubuntu 14.04 on my MSI CR620 notebook. So, my built-in webcam is not recognized by Skype (in it's video settings it says "device not found"). Hitting Fn+F6 doesn't affect anything. Any helpful advice would be highly appreciated

Try to google for the webcam driver on Ubuntu since there isn't any supported linux driver from MSI.
    It has an AzureWave webcam.
Found some information about the skype webcam of ubuntu may be helpful.

  • Ibus doesn't work for skype 4.0.0.8

    hello everyone,
I'm new to Arch. I just installed skype 4.0.0.8 with
    pacman -S skype
although had a little difficulty with the sound, I finally get it to work properly. Now the only problem is I can't input Chinese with ibus.
I did a lot of search on internet, here's what I've tried:
    1. a lot of them are telling me to do something similar to the following post
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=110127
however, it doesn't seem to work for me. especially the configuration file mentioned here doesn't even exist
    /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/default
    2. I also tried to change QT configuration with qtconfig. change default input method to ibus, it doesn't work either.
    3. some post says to start ibus with -x option, so I checked my processes with
    ps awx | grep ibus
    from which I get
    ibus-daemon --xim
I guess it's not the cause either.
And here're all the ibus packages I installed:
    ibus 1.4.2-1
    ibus-pinyin 1.4.0-1
    ibus-qt 1.3.1-5
    ibus-table 1.3.9.20110827-1
    libusb-compat 0.1.4-2
    libusbx 1.0.12-2
Is there anything missing? I really need to make ibus work for me, otherwise I have to reply messages with skype4empathy, which doesn't support group chatting. Or is there anyway to make empathy work with skype group chatting?

The git repos under versions is only available once the a cloned file is opened in the Files view.  Can you verify that.

  • My webcam is not working on skype or facetime, it says cannot find.

Can someone help me figure out why my webcam is not working or able to be discovered when im using skype or facetime or at all since i downloaded Lion?

I'm never really a nick-picker about internet writing, but I couldn't even understand what you said until the third time I read it through.
Anyways, back to the subject. It may be because a lot of those websites are designed for Windows computers, and do not accept the Mac OS, just like how certain MSN Messengers designed for Apple cannot communicate with Windows computers through webcam, but can with other Apple computers.

This is the first time I have used the forum. My iphone4 microphone won't record sound on video clips, and won't work with Skype.

  • Satellite L300 - webcam doesn't work after BIOS upgrade

I recently upgraded BIOS to 2.2 and the webcam has stopped working. It disappeared and there is one unknown device in the device manager in the universal serial bus controller.
I tried everything even with new clean fresh Vista OS but nothing like there is no webcam I installed the drivers but not recognized so I would like if I can to downgrade BIOS to 1.5 and to fix the webcam. If I can cos I need it. Is that possible?
    Tnx

    Hi
I dont think its BIOS issue.
First of all the unknown device (webcam) appears in the device manager and this means that an device has been recognized by system and BIOS.
The only reason why its listed as unknown devices is: the driver is not installed properly.
After BIOS update you have to set the BIOS back to default. Access BIOS pressing F2 and within the BIOS you can use the button F9 to set it to default and F10 to save the changes.
After that you should boot up the unit and should go to device manager.
Mark the unknown device and delete it from the list (if possible)
Go to control panel -> software and check the software list for webcam software (from chicony). Uninstall this software if its part of the list.
    Now reboot the notebook.
Clean the OS using CCleaner and install the correct webcam software for Vista. Note: please pay attention to 32bit or 64bit version.
If the installation would fail, try the Toshiba recovery disk and set the notebook back to factory settings.
By the way: BIOS downgrade is not possible because the old BIOS is not downloadable.

  • 27' Imac version 10.8.2 webcam doesn't work on any softwares: photo booth, skype, ichat...!

I got the new imac 27 inch 3.2 GHZ last week, the version is 10.8.2. I tried to use photo booth, skype and other softwares for webcam, but none of them work. They just turned black and stopped there. How can I do to test it or it's obviously broken?
    Thank you!

If you have not already done so, shut down Mac, restart, and try again.  If the iSight still does not work, try all relevant suggestions from Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
(Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
