My Internet connection is faster but Safri is slower!

Hi Guys,
I am having problems with the speed in Safari, also it just won't let me log on to Yahoo. I get the following error
"Safari can’t open the page “http://uk.f232.mail.yahoo.com/ym/login?.rand=9o6ig0c9cgf7b”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message. "
This is seems to be happening when I access Yahoo mail. I have checked Yahoo mail on Netscape and it is working fine.
Also, when I surf the pages seem to stick and I have to wait a while for the pages to load. Once they do it seems fine and navagating the sites don't seem to have a problem. Again on netscape this is fine.
The connection and download speeds are what I would expect them to be and downloading files seems to be quick and problem free.
I am based in the UK. I am using a BT Voyager router and have Airport Extreme wireless connected to it. I haven't experienced any problem over the last year or so but its suddenly started happening. The only real thing that has changed is that BT have upgraded my line to 8Mb but the problems seem to have started a week or two after that.
I have cleared the cache and also the hisory and checked for software updates on the BT Voyager router and also for Airport Extreme and these seem to be fully up to date.
I have also noticed that it now seems to take longer to connect to msn messenger and yahoo messenger as it did before.
My OS X updates are all up to date too.
I have spoken to my ISP and BT and the line seems to be fine.
Is there anything I am missing here?
I have an ibook G4 and am running OSX Tiger 4.8 with safari 2.0.4
Thanks,
Dan

I seem to be having the same problem, for the past week approximately. In addition I have problems logging in to some of my website 'login' pages but not all of them. Yesterday I logged into my 'Picasaweb.com' website and then logged out a few minutes later. Five minutes after that I attempted to log in again and I ended up getting a
SAFARI CAN'T OPEN THE PAGE. -
Too many redirects occurred trying to open “http://picasaweb.google.com/RDLAURANCE?pli=1”. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page.
Now that is all that happens. I can log in just fine on my miniMac, though!
I did a Disk Utility permissions repair as there appeared to be numerous ones listed. I have cleared the cache and history also to no avail. When trying another User Account I get the same problems appearing..... It is driving me bonkers.....! Any additional advice.....or tips?

  • My Internet Connection is Fast, but Web Pages load slowl

I have tested my connection on several websites. I am using RoadRunner and I consistently get speeds between 3500-4500 kbps. In the past few days I have the same internet speed but all my web pages load really slow. Up until this problem I would click on a link and it would take 2-3 seconds to load the next page. Now it is more like 15-20 seconds. Once I get a page loaded if I download something from that site it is still a fast download.
Any ideas on what could have slowed loading web pages , but download speed still shows really fast?
    Your help is appreciated
    Cheers
    mrjazz

If your download speeds are still fast, it is most likely the broswer that is slow in rendering the pages.
Are you using Safari and if so, do you leave it open all the time? Safari is notorious for hogging RAM and CPU cycles and slowing to a crawl if you do not quit and restart it.

    Hi there!
    do you test other browsers?
i suggest to make a clean install of newer version of Firefox like v8.0.

If you get a network timeout error, then disabling the computer's security software duirng the download and update usually resovles that error.
If that is not the error what is the wording of the error message.
Note that only a 3G or 4G iPod can go to iOS 5.  A 2G iPod can only go to iOS 4.2.1

    Hi Tahan007,
    Check these threads out:

Cannot connect to App Store since 10.8.1
why is my app store sign in saying connection failed?
Also if you're running any anti-virus SW, you might try temporarily disabling it

everytime I try to open the store it endlessly says "accessing iTunes store" but it never opens.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Strange problem... Query runs faster, but report runs slow...

    Hi Gurus,
We are using Report 10g on 10g Application server and solaris. we created a report on a table which has 10,000 rows. The report has 25 columns. when we run this query in Toad it took 12 sec for fetching all these 10,000 rows
But when we run the report with Destype = 'FILE' and Desformat = 'DELIMITEDDDATA', it is taking 5 to 8 minutes
to open in excel ( we concatenated mimetype=vnd-msexcel at the end of the url if the Destype=FILE). We removed the layout in the report as it is taking 10 to 15 mins to run to Screen with Desformat=HTML/PDF(formating pages taking more time). We are wondering why DELIMITEDDATA format is taking long time as it runs only query.
Does RWSERVLET take more time of writing the data to the Physical file in the cache dir? Our cache size is 1 GB. we have 2 report servers clustered. Tracing is off.
Please advise me if there are any report server settings to boost the performance.
    Thanks alot,
    Ram.

  • Internet connection is fine but sometimes pages won't load and I have to restart firefox before everything is okay why is this happening?

Okay three times now I would go to a page I've already gone to (like my email) and suddenly Firefox will say it can't load it even though the internet connection is fine, the cookies settings are fine, and I can get to the site on Google and I can get to the Firefox Homepage. Everything turns out fine when I leave Firefox and then start it again. I never had this problem before I updated to Firefox 4. I want to know why this is happening and what I can do to stop it.

Power off the router. Wait awhile. Power it back on. Wait until all the lights are lit up properly.
    Restart the computer.
    Start up in Safe Mode

  • Is there a way to make internet connections work faster?

My wife has a Macbook and I have the MB Air and we are both running off Time Capsule. Many times when we are both using the internet it becomes a crawl, especially if TC is backing up or we are trying to use Mail or trying to view something on a web site.
I have seen some software out there that claims to speed things up and makes the connection work more efficiently. Does anyone have experience with this? The one recommended to me was IPNetrouterX which has good reviews but is very expensive.
    Thanks
    Richard

It's a bandwidth issue - the size of the pipe, which you cannot work around. if your network is 100 Mb/s and you have three equal users, each gets about 33 Mb/s. You can't get more out of a network than you put in. The only solution is more bandwidth, a larger pipe. A 1 Gb/s network will be faster if yours is 100 Mb/s.
You can use a 1 Gb network if all your devices support that speed. Of course that will be your LAN or WAN speed. The speed to the internet is dependent on the bandwidth your ISP is providing you.
Don't confuse internet speed with local network speed. Your "internet" speed is constant, it's the sharing that is slowing the LAN.

  • Internet connection is fine, but my laptop no longer recognizes the router (WRT54G)

I discovered this problem while trying to add a wired PC to my router. Even though I connected, disconnected, and reconnected my laptop multiple times, it was unable to recognize the router (WRT54G). This has not always been a problem, since I set up the initial wireless connection and later an Xbox Live connection, but that was over six months ago. There's no obvious physical damage to the router or my laptop, neither has been dropped recently or anything like that.
    Any help is appreciated.

Well, 2 quick things. Try a cable from one of the working systems on the laptop. Also check your local area network connection (Start Menu, Connect to, -> Local area network, right click, properties, scroll down to "TCP/IP") and make sure it is set to "Obtain IP Address automatically, and "Obtain DNS Automatically". I have had nothing but trouble with the setup CD's.

  • Internet connection to all but one IP address

    Dear Community,
I'm recently facing a problem to connect to our company server (smb, nameserver etc). I can access (ping all IP addresses but this one). For this particular IP address I'm receiving ICMP timeouts. It is worth to note that this server has an internal (private) and an external (public) IP address. I only cannot acces the private IP address when I'm connected to our company network. I can ping the external IP address (from outside).
I've unsuccessfully tried the following (same behaviour - ICMP timeouts on this particular private IP address):
    - tried WiFi and Ethernet connections
    - switched off firewall
    - switched off sophos anti virus
    - deleted cisco VPN
    - assigned a static IP address (manually - that I just freed - from my Iphone)
    - checked the routing table
    - checked proxy settings
    - cleared the ARP cache
    - monitored system.log (while ping)
    - monitored appfirewall.log (while ping)
    - upgraded from 10.7 to 10.8
    - booted in safe mode
    - booted the rescue system
    - spoofed my Ethernet Mac address (our dhcpd does NOT deny unknown MAC address, which makes me think it really is my MBP)
Do anyone have more hint to try or which log files I should monitor to find out what the problem could be?
    Thanks,
    Sven

First thing to try is renewing the DHCP lease.
    System Preferences > Network.
    Do you have a green dot next to Ethernet? If so, with ethernet selected in the left pane;
Check the location is set to 'automatic'
Check 'configure IPv4' is set to DHCP
    Click the 'Advanced' button
Check that DHCP is selected in that window for IPv4
Turn off IPv6 (gives a conflict on some routers)
Click the button 'renew DHCP lease'
That should persuade the router to give you a different IP.

  • Why is my internet speed is fast, but webpages (facebook, google search) load slowly.

This is a persisting problem. Restarting/reinstalling firefox seems to fix it for a short time but it always comes back. The same problem happens in chrome and firefox on my desktop but not on my laptop or smart phone. I've tried switching anti virus software and servers but neither helped. Other Options?

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • How do get imessages to work? I can't get it to activate on my ipad3. It says no internet connection or retry, but I do have it turned on; using Wi-Fi.

I go and sign into my account as if I was signing into my itunes. I believe my account for ipad is the same as for the itunes; correct or not? In need of some help!

Hi Ba25, when you post a question, it helps those trying to answer if you lay out step by step exactly what you tried to do, what happened etc. You are then more likely to get helpful responses, so people don't have to try and join the dots ;-)
When you say you "go and sign into your account"... do you mean in settings on your iPad?
On your iPad, you need to go to Settings app, select Messages. Check that iMessage is turned on.
The 'Receive At' address should be your Apple ID email address. If not, change it to be that.
Then go to the Message app. Try sending a new message to someone who also has iMessage up and running.
