My internet has slowed down, other macs in the household seem to be fine.
I have had no problems with my macbook air but for the last few days the internet has slowed right down but this does not seem to be a problem for other members of the household using the same wireless internet. They mostly have Macbook Pro's.Any thoughts?

[SOLVED] The internet has slowed down (on my arch at least)
Darned if I know how or when this happened but I now see that I am getting ~20KB/sec on Arch, while WinXP gives me 180KB/sec. This is using wget against a certain 1Mb file using Arch and Windows to confirm.
This cannot be allowed to continue. I certainly remember getting 200KB/sec+ on Arch in the past, I wonder what ate my speed?
Any suggestions as to how to return my networking to normal speed? Strangely enough, using Fedora 10 for a second opinion shows likewise ~20Kb slow...
I'm running 2.6.27.5 kernel. I hope to fix this speed issue before I download the next 30Mb of Arch updates... My network setup is 100Mbit Realtek 8169 wired to an ADSL modem.

On windows, which was fast, I happened to hover over the network icon on the taskbar... And the tooltip showed 10mb! Bad cable? I locked the card at 100mb in windows and lo and behold, windows was slow as well.
+1 to windows here, I guess it(driver?) figured out that the connection was dodgy and dropped back to a slower link. The windows driver itself was set to autoneg the speed.
So, back in Arch I locked eth0 back to 10mb
ethtool -s speed 10 autoneg off
Ah, 200Kb/sec again! And everything makes sense as well... -
Ok, look I know that there are some very informed computer techs here. That is why I came here to the Apple forums,,And what I want is the truth. Yes I want you to cough up the truth one of you tecchies out there who are familiar with what exactly in the 9e11 is going on here? The INTERNET has slowed down all accross the U.S.A.
I have tried with a reformatted Apple with 10.4.9 ,,,A fresh new PC, a Mac book at my friends Look, it does not matter where I go. The internet has slowwed down. I have ATT with the DSL Elite Package and when I do a speed test it says 5.3 Mbps. or so. But in real life is runs like 750 Kbps. Here I live in the North Bay Area, Napa Valley. So I am close to the main hubs in San Jose and San Fran.
So what gives? What is going on?
Ok now here is the deal, I clearly remember ripping fast speeds for YouTube and all those sites and stuff would download FAST! Now since about 2006 it has been rapidly slowing down. It seems that the bandwidth testers are not giving a true speedtest. I think the speedtesting system has been hacked or they are all unified in decieving everyone. I am not being fooled anymore. The internet has slowed down. Way down.

Of course you go to check your speed and "they" devote all resources to make it look good!
While I'm on Dial-up, my GF of 32 year has Comcast with it's bloated speeds & further boated "Burst" speeds, which last about the 1st KB, LOL.

New Mac has slowed down dramatically
My mac is only a few weeks old and I have noticed that it has slowed down dramatically. It takes quite awhile for programs to load. The fill-in boxes are not keeping up with my typing and it is getting quite annoying. I am new to Imac, so I am not sure how to go about checking the processing speed, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

my mac has started freezing and suddenly shutting down on me it seems as if every process has slowed down since downloading this last update of 11.1.4, any solutions? Because it shut down in the middle of a test twice now, saying keyboard issue.
What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.

Ive had my 13 inch macbook pro for less than 30 days and the battery health has gone down to 92% and the computer itself is so slow...i paid $50.00 for an OLD windows computer with 512 mb of ram and it is much faster..is this normal for mac?? Also, apple says there is nothing they can/wil do even though i got the apple care....i mean really? $50.00 for 2002 computer with windows XP and 512mb of ram and a single core processor......faster and more usable than $1400.00 computer with 4gb of ram and dual core processor.....***???

You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. I just upgrade to Maverick on my 2 year old MacBook Pro and it has slowed down the computer terribly. All I see every time I do anything is that crazy circle going round and round. I don't recommend you upgrading. How do I get rid of it. I believe it forces you to buy a new macbook!!!!

I have a macbook pro 13’ (late 2011) 2.8Ghz Intel i7 memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and have upgraded my OS X Lion to Mavericks 10.9.5. Everything has slowed down and the battery lasts a bit earlier. How do I go back to the older OS X Lion? Or should I improve speed differently? Would improving memory to 8GB help?

My mid 2011 MacBook Air has slowed down significantly overnight?
Last night my MacBook Air was working fine.
When I went to use it this morning, it has slowed down significantly. It takes awhile for it to respond to trackpad movement or the keyboard. Opening finder is delayed now, opening any app is delayed now. Booting it back up takes extra long now, probably around a minute compared to thirty seconds before.
I've tried an SMC reset, repairing the disk and repairing disk permissions.
From what I can see, the hardware doesn't appear to be failing, but I could be wrong.
Can anyone help me out? What could possibly be going on with my MacBook? How did this happen overnight?Your MacBook Air's memory is not upgradable, and as you already determined unused storage capacity is not a relevant factor.
There are many reasons a Mac may be performing slower than expected.
Back up your documents and everything else important to you before proceeding.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:

Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

System has slowed down considerably after updates from Apple. Is SyncServer the culprit?
I use MacBook with preinstalled OS Leopard since April 2009. I have also regulalry updated my computer system using the Software Update application. However, since my last update on 12th Aug 2011, I have noticed that my system has slowed down. There is long pause between every character I type, delay in switching applications, battery dries out quicker, slow response to every command.
I have started facing this problem after updating following software like iTunes 10.4, Safari 5.0.6, Migration Assistant Update for MAC OS Leopard & Quick Time 7.7 from Software Updater. Although, my OS is still leopard.
I noticed on the Activity Monitor that syncserver is using majority of my RAM and reappers even if I stop the process. Some of its subprocess like AddressBookSync also appears and consumes lot of memory. Is this the problem? Though, I never noticed earlier what size it consumed.
I use Microsoft Office suite for Mac and have also checked and deselected all sync services. Yet, the Process (PID 305) continues to appear in Activity Monitor.
I am no techie, and would appreciate quick help to resolve this issue.

I've scientific softwares so probably would require a clean re-installation of ML. I MUST MENTION HERE that those software which were written for PPC will NOT work on ML. Just found out that one of my important softwares version won't work on ML; need $500 to upgrade that software .
Therefore, I'd also want to know how can I go back to SL.

Since installing Leopard (OS X 10.5.8) everything has slowed down. From powering up to powering down and everything in between, the computer has slowed down. A friend said every video I've watched - not necessarily downloaded - is on the hard drive and if I clean it up, that might help. But I don't know. I was using Tiger and everything was fine.
