  • Ipod touch 3rd gen hang during software update

my ipod 3rd gen got hand during ios software update

Hang during restore process: Following Troubleshooting security software will frequently resolve this error. This error can be caused by the default packet size being set incorrectly. There may be third-party software installed that modifies the default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize or MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entry into the Registry. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance in adjusting this TcpWindowSize values. Typically the default packet size is modified by 3G cellular network card software, ISP communication software, or Internet speed download optimization software. There are legitimate reasons to change the TCP/IP packet size and not use the Windows default settings (for example, network traffic optimization, home/broadband optimization, Enterprise apps optimization such as database apps, Exchange, and more). Deleting the "TcpWindowSize" or "GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize" entries in Windows Registry could affect the system's performance with other apps or on their network connections. Deleting the customized TCP/IP settings may require the reinstallation of any third-party applications that had modified the TCP/IP settings from the Windows default settings. Follow the steps below to remove TcpWindowSize and MaxGlobalTcpWindowSize entries from the Registry.
For Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7: Go to the C:\\Windows folder and launch regedit.
    Go to Edit > Find.
Search for "TcpWindowSize" entries. There are typically multiple entries of TcpWindowSize/GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize spread throughout the entire Registry. If "TcpWindowSize" exists, one or more third-party applications have changed the user's default Windows settings for TCP/IP.
Go to File and select Export. This step will export a copy of the Registry that can be used as a backup of the original settings.
    Delete the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
Search for the next "TcpWindowSize" entry and delete each one until the Registry no longer has any "TcpWindowSize" entries.
Close Regedit, restart the PC, and test.
If you are uncertain as to why these registry entries exist and the PC is a business computer, contact your network administrator and determine what values TCP/IP can be set in their Windows Registry setting so that the PC can update or restore an iOS device rather than deleting the "TcpWindowSize" entry.
If editing the registry does not resolve the issue, restoring on a different computer that did not install the communication software is the step most likely to resolve this issue.

  • IBook G4 hangs during update downloads and Update installs

I have an older iBook G4 (model A1133), and it works great. However, I just reinstalled OS 10.5, and while doing the software updates the download will sometimes "hang" and not complete. However, I can cancel that partcular update process, and then go right back and restart the software update process and the download may complete perfectly. I'm at a loss as to why.
It doesn't appear to be my network connection as my PC downloads just fine. Additionally, I've also had the software update download complete normally, but when it begins the installation process, it will begin the install, but will hang and not complete. When that occurs it generally gets to the "writing the installer script" portion of the install, and will hang up and not complete the install. Again, if I quit and then restart the update process it may comlete everything on the second or third attempt. Does anyone know what may be causing this? Thanks in advance.

I find that it is better to download a major system combo update than rely on the software update function. You could get the 10.5.8 combo updater and apply it as outlined in these articles.

    Hi,
Make sure you are using the cable that came with your iPad that connects to your computer, and try a different USB port.
Try charging the battery to 100%, then try to restore again.

  • Ipad hangs during backup

    Hello,
I have both an iPhone and iPad-1. Both running the latest OS (4.3.3)
The IPhone will synch with my PC (windows 7 - iTunes 10.2.2) without any issue.
The iPad, however, stops at about the 85% mark.
I can cancel the synch on the IPad, but iTunes is still continuing to Synch.
I have tried re-stting the iPad, and re-starting the PC, all to no avail.
    Thanks for any help.
    Tony

I realize that there are multiple problems that are causing the hang up.  But here is what i found out:
I noticed that there was a process that was taking  up 50% of the CPU.  When i would load ITunes to sync it would go to 100%, therefore locking up the sync in the beginnign to middle of the backup phase.  When i looked at Task manage and selected all users i noticed that the system was running AppleMobileDevice.exe and it was using 50% of CPU (nothing else loaded).  Somehow when i upgraded to the new version of itunes to be able to sync my new ipad, something must of happened to cause this.  I called Apple support and at first they said i would need to uninstall all the itunes programs.  But then they mentioned that they have seen a quick fix with a Winsock reset that has fixed the issue.
They transfered me to a senior technical support person and she walked me through the reset.  It was as simple as going to the command prompt and typing "NET WINSOCK RESET" (then reboot) and it completed resolved the issue of the sync process locking up in the backup stage for me. The tech person mentioned that if you get the error “remount LSP” say no.
You might want to call them and mention the winsock issue and have them walk you through it.  I may not have remembered the command 100% correctly.
I would highly recommend that you check the CPU usage when you feel that you are locked up and see if you are at the 100% level.  This is probably why i see a lot of notes on dicussion boards that it is taking hours to go through the sync process.... Hope this helps...

  • Mail hang during large message download

I've noticed several times when I get emails that either exceed the auto download size threshold, or have large attachments on them that Mail will 'hang' during the download. I can exit out of the message but it's still spinning away and won't get any more email from the server.
I'm using a Pop email account. The only fix I've found is to "magic power cycle" the mail app using the sleep button / home key hold down. Once mail starts after this the message will fully download. It's been happening for a while, but I wanted to be sure it wasn't a fluke.
Anyone else run across this & find an easier workaround?
    Thanks,
    Dave

I have been having no end of problems with email since upgrading to 10.5 about a month ago.
Generally, after some time, various activities hang around in the Activity window (such as "evaluating message n of m") and prevent normal email updates and quitting. Neither Apple support nor the local Apple Genius were able to assist. Even reinstalling the OS (10.5.2, 10.5.3, or 10.5.4) and rebuilding the user account manually did not work. I tried running "Sample Process" in Activity Monitor on Mail.app and noticed a lot of "semaphorewait_signaltrap"s that seemed to be related to AddressBook. This led me to the following process which has (at least for now) fixed my problem:
    1. Quit (or Force Quit) Mail.
    2. In Address Book, use File>Export>Address Book Archive... to dump the contents of the address book.
    3. Quit Address Book
    4. Rename your ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book folder to something else (in case you want to restore it later)
    5. Start Address Book
    6. Use File>Import>Address Book Archive... to restore the contents of the address book
It may be voodoo, but it worked for me.

  • ITunes 7.5 hangs during CD playback - OS X

I posted the below last night. Today while checking for followups, I found that it was under Windows version of iTunes (even though a couple other posters may be referring to OS X as well based on their signature) My comments are for only for Mac.

I am having the same problem on 2 different G5 Dual PPC systems running 7.5. This occurs when playing commercial (redbook) CDs..... during CD playback iTunes stalls after the 2nd song (usually at time marker 0:02). I have no problem playing back any music already in my iTunes library (99% AIFF format). Something is up with this version! Please correct it asap. thanks.

When I searched I missed this thread: Problem Playing CDs in iTunes 7.5 http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1225880&tstart=0 which has the solution/fix. Seems to be the "Use Error Correction when reading audio CDs" setting in the Advanced >Importing iTunes preferences. The other solutions deleted plist files which essentially reset the preferences to default which has Use Error Corrections off.
I am listening to a CD now which did not stall at the normal track location.
I have to confirm that a CD does not stall when ripping(import CD) with the Use Error Correction setting ON.

Settings>General>Software Update is only available in IOS 5 and above.
If you are using IOS 4, you need to connect to iTune (computer) to update software.
