Since updating to iTunes 11.1.4(62) both my iPhone 5 and iPad Air do not sync. I am using an Apple USB cable plugged directly into my 27" late 2012 iMac. WIth the phone I get an -50 error message. With theiPad Air it gets up to syncing Apps, and then gets hung up. I have rebooted all of the devices and iTunes multiple times, and it still does not work. Any ideas? It sounds like you have a firewall or virus protection software interfering with the process.

I need to wipe out my ipad, but after doing so when I reconnect it to my itunes will it retrieve the notes and contacts?

Only if you restore the iPad from a backup .... And if the Notes and contacts are in the backup. So... Backup your iPad before you wipe it and then restore from the backup when you set it up again.

It seems your device may be stuck in recovery mode. At this point your device may need to be restored. Have you created a backup at any point via iCloud or iTunes? The following article provides details on recovery mode:

Get more help
Learn what to do if you don't see your device in iTunes for OS X, or in iTunes for Windows.
If you put your device into recovery mode by mistake, restart it. Or you can wait 15 minutes and your device will exit recovery mode by itself.

I don't think you can connect a printer since you won't have the printer drivers. I use FingerPrint from collobos.com to print to my non-AirPrint printers.

You can't - external drives and flash drives can't be connected to the iPad for copying photos (or anything else) off the iPad. You can use some photo upload sites to store them on web accounts or cloud services, but for a large number of photographs you'll be better off with a laptop and external drives for backup.

Why can I no longer import EDITED photo from my iPad to my Mac using Image Capture? This is farcical and a real problem having to email them individually to myself and is totally inefficient time wise compared to previously using image capture! Why change this when it was working well and very quickly until the latest change. Now I have to move files from downloads into an appropriate folder, after emailing each individual edited image to myself, then I have to open in Photoshop and rename the file. This is ludicrous and takes forever to do!

I took my Ipad on vacation with only my usb cable, expecting to charge off another computer. No charge! Since then I have tried several other cables, no luck. Is my Ipad problematic?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

Pop-Ups windows are effectively being blocked in Safari, but some web-sites have updated their sites to open a window when you click on content on their site. This is not a Safari issues it is a web-site issue. I am not sure on how to stop these without stopping other features on the browser.
