My iPad 2 is driving me crazy. When I open a link in mail I have to close mail

Is there a way to go back to the e-mail in box without losing mail.  When I open. Link in mail it will not allow me to go back & there is only one open address bar.

The Home button is the button with the rounded square. It is on the front of your iPad.
You do not need to push the Home button twice. While that will work you can also:
1. Tap the Home button once and then tap the Mail app. Mail will come back at the place you left it.
2. While in Safari you can do a five finger thing I call a squeeze. Not sure what Apple calls it. Place your fingers and thumb on the screen and move your fingers toward your thumb. This should bring up the home screen and you can then tap Mail. Doing that five finger thing in any app will return you to the home screen.
3. A four finger swipe will take you back to Mail if Mail was the last app you looked at before going to Safari.
When you tap a link in Mail, Mail doesn't actually close or quit. It just gets hidden behind Safari.
