  • Capacity maxed out on ipad after updating to iOS6

    capacity maxed out as "Other" on ipad after updating to iOS6.  How do I fix?

    You can try this, but it appears as though the download went bad and you might very well have to restore your iPad to get rid of the "Other",
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    "Other" consist of non media content .... App documents and files, contacts, calendar entries, Safari bookmarks and history, notes, email messages and so on. It should not be bloating your iPad storage.

  • HT4972 How do I tell if my ipad was updated to ios6? It still says it's version 4.3.5

    How do I tell if my ipad 2 was updated to ios6? It still says it's version 4.3.5

    Then it hasn't been updated to iOS 6.0.1.
    If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

    If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
    Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Theoretical question re: ipad 3 update from iOS6 to iOS7

    With Apple's recent statement regarding breaking Facetime on iOS6 iPads, do we have recourse if the update to 7.1.1 slows the machine down, as I've read here that it does in many posts?
    For example, my iPad 3 is under AppleCare.
    if the update cripples the machine, makes wifi worse, slows it down, causes the battery life to shorten....
    what will Apple do to accommodate me - give me an iPad 4?
    As much as I dislike iOS7, if that's the only way to get Facetime working again, it's possible I may do it, however, shouldn't Apple be responsible to supply me with a unit that is every bit as fast and responsive, in every way, as the unit was BEFORE being forced into the update policy implemented by Apple?
    it is under warranty, after all.....

    It would be useful for you to actually read your warranty before asking what it covers. That is why a copy is included with the device when purchased.

  • HT4623 Ipad 1 updates - no iOS6 update?

    I am finding that my ipad operating system is not updating.  Please tell me that Apple will continue to support.

    The latest software that you can run on the original iPad is 5.1.1. Only Apple knows if another software update will be available in the future. Just because the device is not capable of running a new iOS, doesn't mean that Apple is no longer supporting the device. It just means that the current up to date software that you can run is iOS 5.1.1.

  • HT4623 my first gen ipad wont update beyond 5.1.1 is there a fix for this

    any way to update the ios?

    I too have an iPad 1.  Works great until today when I found an app which requires me to update it and it requires iOS 6.1 or greater.  So I'd rather update my iPad 1's OS than pay big bucks getting a new one.  Obviously there are those of us that love the technology and adopted it early on, but do not have the money to keep throwing at it.
    Any suggestions?  Go get a Surface and a case of RAID to go with it?

  • Ipad wont update past 5.1.1

    My wife is an owner in a learning company, they use I pads in there instruction.  She has a group of 5 out of 10 that will not update past IOS 5.1.1.
    Please advise. These units are critical to her business.  Breakdown of problem, purchased 10 Ipads, installed vendors app, All i pads work wonderfully, Vendor updated their App, we updated IPads, all work fine, Last Vendor update Failed due to IPads unable to update past IOS 5.1.1. Please Advise with any assistance or guidance.

    If they're original iPads, they can't be updated past 5.1.1. Replace them with newer ones.

  • IPad wont update?

    I am trying to update my iPad today.  I was attempting to update to the newest version about, I think it was 4.3.5.  I had whatever the most up to date update was before that.  So I left it updating this morning when I went to work and when I returned this evening it was still on the loading screen with the Apple and the status bar still trying to update.  I have canceled it 3 times and started updating it again.  I have used the download version from iTunes and have even tried updating it from a downloadable file.  No dice.

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school enviroment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
  • User name email was changed but my "sign onto Revel" form on my PC will not change to the new email. I cant sign on to my account from there so my ipad wont update. How do I resolve this please.
    How do I change the "sign on to Revel" box when trying to get my PC to update my Ipad. An incorrect email seems to be permanently ensconced there preventing me access?
    You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
    You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.
